Lights! Caramel! Action!
Travis B.

Lights! Caramel! Action!: Introduced by Ben & Jerry's (BJ's) near the end of 2022, this flavor's clever name is a reference to one of my favorite pastimes, movies. The packaging depicts filmmaker and screenwriter Ava DuVernay, although I'm a film buff, I honestly had no idea who she was. After some investigating, my ignorance (with no disrespect) of Ava and her work was due to the fact that her genre isn't intriguing for me (I'm more of an epic blockbuster guy). Anyways, BJ's official description is vanilla ice cream with salted caramel swirls, graham cracker swirls & gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough. Let me lead off by saying I enjoyed this flavor. That said, I found the salt in the "salted" caramel and graham cracker flavor to be as obscure as Ava DuVernay's works. Those short comings are made up for by the abundance of superb cookie dough gobs and sweet caramel flavor. In a nutshell, this flavor is a caramel cookie dough ice cream. It's not "Star Wars", "Indiana Jones", or "Jurassic Park", but by no means "Gigli", "Jack and Jill", or "Cats". Sticking with the movie analogies, Lights! Caramel! Action! is something I would see (buy) during a matinee (on sale) as it's not BJ's best film....I mean flavor, but still Doughboy approved Doughboy_Food_Reviews My B&J's Favorites: 1. Caramel Chocolate Cheesecake 2. Americone Dream 3. Gimme S'more 4. Dublin Mudslide 5. PB S'more 6. The Tonight Dough

A colleague posted on our Teams channel that it was free cone day at Ben and Jerry's. I didn't know that was a thing. I also didn't know there was a Ben and Jerry's nearby. What a fun discover for my Tuesday. Came over here on a late lunch break for a mid-day field trip. They had music playing outside and there were a few families there, but the line moved super quickly -- they had plenty of staff covering the demand. I was in and out within 5 minutes. I also didn't know B&J had vegan/dairy-free options (not a ton, but some are better than none!) I went with the almond milk cookie dough, which was okay. There was something slightly odd about it, but I can't quite discern what it was -- I haven't had ice cream in ages though, so maybe it's me lol. The cone itself was delicious. If I come back here, I would love to try the sorbet. The berry sorbet looked divine. I can't comment on the prices because I didn't even look at them since it was free cone day haha. The location is great and convenient, too. Plenty of parking, and lots of other shops to walk around and browse.

Cherry Garcia. A $12 cone. No joke.

Ben and Jerry's icecream is always 5 stars. The attendant was professional at first, and helped us immediately. The service: I asked for a plain cone and 1 scoop of Cherry Garcia and she told me I HAD to buy two scoops with the cone. At $6 per scoop why would I buy 2? Which we ended up doing. That .... me off. If I want 1 scoop then I want 1 scoop. Who are you to tell me I have to have 2? (This should be reviewed in employee or company training)

Now I am certainly no stranger when it comes to Ben & Jerry's ice cream, I have had my fair share of purchases from either the grocery store, Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy, or 7-Eleven, tehehe. When teaching coping skills to the adolescent hospital patients I work with, I often share that I used to make it a priority to have Ben & Jerry's within my college semesters, being that it is one thing that brings me joy. I admit that I procrastinated on visiting for some time now, but after finally working in the Glenview area on a weekend, I made the visit happen to Ben & Jerry's. Its location sits within 'The Glen Tower Center', commonly known as 'The Glen', a shopping mall where there are an ample of businesses and restaurants. After entering the location, I had plenty of time to browse and see what gauged my interest. The employee, Angel, took my order shortly after finishing up with the customers ahead of me. I nearly ordered a favorite of mine, the Americone Dream, but I changed my mind after thinking to myself, why not try a new flavor because it is not often I visit an actual Ben & Jerry's location. After that thought, I ended up ordering the Dirt Cake because it was one of the flavors I took a liking to that I had not had before. Its flavors are vanilla pudding ice cream with chocolate sandwich cookies & chocolate cookie swirls. Service: 5 (Great) I opted out of eating my ice cream on the spot and choosing to take it to go since it was late, and I had just gotten off of work and had a long drive back to Chicago. Moreover, this location appeared clean, and the atmosphere gave off a very calm vibe. And there are a few tables and seats available inside of the dining area if you wish to eat your ice cream onsite. Atmosphere: 5 (Great) Ooouuu, I just could not resist holding back from eating the Dirt Cake after arriving inside of my residence. By then, it was just the way I like it! Soft! People laugh because I microwave my ice cream to make it soft like the blizzards sold at a Dairy Queen. The Dirt Cake tasted similar to cookies and cream ice cream, yet with more of a cookie taste. My oh my, yes! And it totally had my mouth salivating in-between each spoonful eaten as I stood at my countertop with my coat and backpack still on, tehehe. Food: 5 (Great) Now that I finally visited and had a great experience, I would surely re-visit Ben & Jerry's again. Tehehe, I would say when in the Glenview area again, but I know darn well that I will drive out solely for it. Service: 5 | Atmosphere: 5 | Food: 5 Recommendations: Brownie Special, Mini Vermonster, Cookie Cookie Sundae, Waffle Bowl Sundae, Americone Dream, Dirt Cake, Sweet Cream & Cookies, Oatmeal Dream Pie, CHANGE the WHIRLED, Butterscotch'd, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, or Mint Chocolate Chunk. ~ Peace, Love & Ice Cream ~ Thomas G

In the super-premium ice cream space, Ben and Jerry's is alright for me. The space is small and cozy, good for small groups in a nicely decorated restaurant. The staff is friendly and helpful and serve customers in a fairly quick manner. In terms of flavors, I find them to be alright -- at times pretty creative though always a success for some combinations. With lots of super-premium options available in the area now (some at even more competitive prices), Ben & Jerry's is a place I would go to if I'm in the area, but I wouldn't necessarily make a special trip out to go out to. The ice cream is good, but there's nothing particularly special or memorable to make it stand out against options like Graeter's, Jeni's, or Kilwin's.

Storefront at dusk on Free Cone Day, 4-03-2023.

For the record, Ben & Jerry's annual Free Cone Day was today, 4-03-2023. The line moved speedily and it was only a 5 minute wait at 7:15pm, not bad at all. I think they've got it all figured out and B&J is a well oiled machine on this day. Thank you!

We met a group of friends here on a Saturday. We arrived right when it opened. As a group of 16 we managed to fill the place and overwhelm the server, who was there alone. One of the organizers jumped behind the counter to assist. I had a chocolate dipped vanilla waffle cone. I had the peanut butter cup and another flavor. Herein lies the problem. The ice cream is so unremarkable that I can't remember the other flavor's name or even what it tasted like. The ice cream cone had more flavor than the ice cream in the cone. The under counter area was pretty unorganized and dirty. The eating area was clean and accommodated our group, but there was no room for anyone else. We constantly had to move out of the way so that other customers could pay. I cannot recommend Ben & Jerry's.

I ordered a half marshmallow sky and half American dream

My experience for my first time at this location was fantastic, Kiana was amazing, great customer service!! She offered me samples because I didn't know what flavor I wanted , & those samples definitely helped ! Thanks Kiana definitely would recommend 10/10

I absolutely love the new "sophisticated" Ben & Jerry's Line of "Topped" Ice Cream Pints. I just had the Tiramisu "Topped" Pint I have to say that it is MY FAVORITE FLAVOR YET! Chocolate, coffee, swirled with cookie...it tastes EXACTLY like Tiramisu. I highly recommend!

Johnny helped us out I really appreciate the help my brothers in wheelchair and he helped him in the store and also he let us try everything we needed to try excellent

We met Jamie at our venue's vendor expo and were immediately impressed by their services, pricing, and vast food offerings. It was a no brainer to book with their group! We had our tasting a couple months before our wedding day; which is complimentary to the couple and a $50 charge for any additional guest to join. They have you select 8-10 appetizers, 2 salads, and 4 entrees to taste at their Naperville location. They also have displays of china, silverware, glasses and more to help couples select what aligns aesthetically for their special day. Jamie worked with us to make small modifications to their standard offerings to make the food exactly what we wanted! Our wedding day came and we were floored by the quality/presentation of food, level of detail in place settings, and service from all staff members. We had multiple guests say that this was some of the best wedding food they've had, steaks were not over cooked, and food tasted fresh. Jamie also let us add desserts a week out to reallocate money from a couple of guests who last minute were unable to attend. Their team was even nice enough to service items not purchased through their group: disposables for the late night snack, display and refilling of cupcakes, etc. Overall, their group went above and beyond for us under Jamie's leadership. Our tables looked great, our food was wonderful, and their team was fabulous. We truly appreciate all they've done for us and could not recommend them more! We were originally working with Hels for a 200 person wedding that was to happen 9/26/2020. Well as we all know, that changed due to COVID and while it could have been awful in deciding what we wanted to do, Hels and all of our vendors made us feel so confident in our new plan: 50 people in our backyard. After planning and re-planning and having 3 back up plans just in case, not a beat was missed by Linda and her team. Not only did I have full confidence in them working with our coordinator I had full confidence in stepping back as a bride and just letting them do what they are great at - catering. Our guests are still talking about the food - and that is NOT typical for a wedding. Truly, some of the best food many of us have ever had. From appetizers, to service to plated meals of chicken & steak - Hels is the choice you should make for your next event (big, small or anywhere in between). It's not easy having strangers in your home, but at the end of the day Hels was like family & we are excited to hire them over and over again for any events we plan!

I would absolutely recommend them, I'm thrilled they are here in Northbrook. As for the food, taste is so subjective and it is hard to please all the people with every dish. Everyone thought the Thai chicken skewers with peanut sauce were delicious. The Mediterranean chicken was also very good (loved the artichokes). The sweet potato mini pancakes were also a hit. The Tangine vegetables were too bland. I like more flavor, spices. To their credit, they use very little salt. The bourbon chicken skewers went untouched. The Jerusalem salad desperately needed dressing, it was also untouched (but of good quality). Having them cater saved us days of time preparing and cooking, it was well worth the money. They are super organized and, as I mentioned above, great people to do business with. We'll certainly try them again now that we know what we like.

They were happy to accommodate our every need. Since it was for a grand opening celebration/open house, we were unsure of how many guests would come. Our turn-out was about 200 guests, and there was plenty of food and drink for the party! We did 6-7 different passed appetizers - the servers were friendly, prompt, but not in-your-face-eat-this like some are. Staff was very professional. Every appetizer was delicious (we had the company recommend their most popular items). The cold apps were cold and the hot apps were hot. There were no discarded napkins, etc. lying around - they must have constantly cleaned-up after everyone too. We did wine and sparkling water service. The bartender had a drink in everyone's hand the second they walking in the door. Very fast, very attentive. Since we didn't know the exact head count of our party, the company brought as much wine as possible and didn't charge us for any unopened bottles that they could take back!!!! I only briefly met the owner/manager, but my mother really enjoys working with her. You can tell she has been doing this for years. She will come out to check-out your party space to plan ahead of the layout for her food and staff. Catering Made Simple was, without question, the most stressful, unprofessional, and disappointing vendor of my entire wedding. What makes it worse is that the owner chose coercion over accountability -- attempting to pressure me into deleting my review before even agreeing to speak with me. That alone should tell you how they handle their mistakes. I posted multiple public notices tagging them and gave them a deadline -- Friday, September 26 at 12:00 PM -- to reach out and make things right. Despite several attempts, they ignored every one. Planning Failures: Our contract clearly stated a plated dinner, and I provided a detailed color-coded diagram with guest names, allergies, and meal choices weeks in advance. Despite this, staff insisted it was a buffet while we were lined up for our ceremony. I had to walk into the reception in my gown minutes before walking down the aisle to correct them. Because of their confusion and refusal to listen, our ceremony was delayed -- critical time lost as we were already working around rain. Execution Failures: We paid for full cake service, but utensils were missing, and flimsy tools from a décor box labeled "Do not use" were handed to us. Our cake, made by a close friend, was ruined when staff shoved a fragile custom topper -- still in its frame -- into the cake, splitting the top tier. One staff member even called it "cheap." They also failed to provide the highboy table we paid for and placed our cake awkwardly in the back of the dessert table. Guest Service Failures: Staff hovered over tables and repeatedly asked guests if they were finished. My own half-eaten meal was cleared while I was in the restroom, leaving me hungry at my own wedding. When I asked for water, I was escorted to the bar instead of being served. Professionalism & Accountability: My coordinator was harassed to the point of tears, and staff even threatened to pull me aside during the reception to complain about her. The owner, Greg, was present all night, saw me address problems directly, and never once spoke to me or apologized. Instead, he posted defensive public comments and tried to coerce me into removing my review. The only positive: the food was warm, tasty, and as expected from the tasting -- but that's where the good ends. The impact on our wedding was significant: * Our ceremony was delayed. * My coordinator was harassed. * Our cake -- lovingly made by a friend -- was ruined. * Guests felt uncomfortable. * I was left hungry. * The owner refused to take responsibility. To top it all off, I have since been blocked from a major Chicago wedding vendor group -- likely due to a complaint from Catering Made Simple -- instead of them engaging in constructive dialogue. Catering Made Simple failed in planning, execution, professionalism, and accountability. They caused unnecessary stress and ruined key moments of a once-in-a-lifetime day -- and then tried to silence me. Brides and grooms: do not risk your wedding on this company.

From the very beginning, we knew FFT was the right vendor for us because they took our favorite foods and crafted a completely customized menu perfectly tailored to what we enjoyed and what we envisioned for the event. From there, they then worked with us to refine the menu as we kept coming up with crazy ideas. We literally emailed Anna about how we had just tasted a delicious Oreo brownie and she had it added to our desserts right away. We also wanted a very custom bar menu, and they worked with us to get us all the different brands we were looking for, going so far as to drive to Indiana to source some of them. The other aspect of their menu that made such an impact was all the interactive food stations. Everything is so creatively presented and designed. At our tasting, Anna had literally taken elements of our décor and paper goods and other motifs and woven them throughout the presentations from custom serving trays to glass designs. Everything felt intentional and thought out. Guests were constantly praising this attention to detail. Every station had some element of action to it as well, making everything feel like a unique experience. In all of this, the food was all delicious. We wish we can eat and experience it all over again. We still dream of Chef Arlene's Guava and Cheese Empanadas. Throughout the process, Anna was extremely easy to work with and very responsive. One thing we wanted to highlight was that we wanted to be very careful with allergens. Thank you thank you thank you to everyone at FFT who helped us pull off such a special event!
