This cash only spot right near the Glenview Metra station has been serving up the flavors of my childhood for as long as I can remember. The menu would make Willy Wonka proud! Take any flavor, add whatever toppings and mix-ins you'd like, add a hard candy shell, eat it out of a mini baseball helmet, I could go on. It's right near a park as well, so a perfect stop for any family with kids. They hire local kids and support local initiatives as well. Today I had a butterscotch shake with hot fudge mixed in. You can't call yourself an ice cream fanatic if you haven't been here! Seriously the most reasonably priced ice cream in all Chicago land. It's across the street from a unique playground even teenagers would enjoy and next to the library. For those with nut allergies, stick to the soft serve because it comes straight out of the machine, and don't get the hard shell dips or toppings (due to cross contamination). However, an alternative to getting the dips is the Flavor Burst which is syrup from a machine that gets layered into the soft serve. Furthermore, I looked up the ingredients on the Flavor Bursts website, and even the butter pecan syrup doesn't actually contain nuts (mainly high fructose corn syrup, food dye, and a bunch of other chemicals - ha!). Plus, there are sprinkles in the back for those who want to avoid nuts - just let them know! It's pretty much a simple looking structure with a window to go up to and order. Has quite a few flavors to choose. They also have non dairy sorbets. A thing to know is this is one of those seasonal places for ice cream. It closes for winter like most. There's only some outdoor seating. Much too small for anything else. They still manage to have a ton of flavors though. It's about $3 for a medium cup. There's all the usual ones plus a few not as much. Get some that are non dairy. They had a few sorbets including lemon and orange. Good place to cool off and get a sweet treat with it. It's open beginning in spring. The soft serve is very creamy, I recently had the dreamsicle which is a twist of the vanilla and orange soft serves, it was soooo good, the orange had good flavor and the vanilla offered a smooth and creamy balance. They have cones, cups, waffle cones and bowls, sundaes, shakes, floats, and more. They have pretty much everything you might need on a hot summer day. They also have some snacks type food including hot dogs, chips, nachos, corn dogs. I wouldn't recommend the corn dog as it wasn't crispy but the hot dog was decent. I don't understand how they do it but their soft serve is magical. It's creamy, fluffy, and flavorful -- unlike any other soft serve I've had before, which tends to be icy or bland. I ordered a medium cone with peanut butter dip and was tempted to order a second after I finished the first because it was that good. My husband had a turtle sundae. It came with a healthy dose of caramel and hot fudge, pecans, and whipped cream. But...there are soooo many options for your soft serve cones. You can get them dipped and with toppings. So, the combinations are endless!!! On my first trip, I stayed on the safe side and got the vanilla soft serve dipped in peanut butter. It was so yummy. Next time I'm considering the cake batter (what!), and the crunch cote that seems to be really popular there. Dark chocolate dip with peanuts sounds yummy as well. This place is great! It is super tasty, and honestly has a variety of flavors/dippings you can choose from. They say their ice cream is 95% fat-free, but they still excel in demonstrating creamy yet clean taste! One of my favorite ways to order at this place is vanilla cone dipped in butterscotch dipping. Not only are they tasty, but they're very reasonably priced in my opinion, unlike some other nearby ice cream places, like Dairy Queen in the Wilmette area. All the staffs are friendly and courteous, and I liked how they still practice mask-wearing to ensure the safety of everyone. One thing to note is that this place is CASH ONLY! But with the prices being very nice and good portions, I think it's not a dealbreaker, just something to remind myself. If you're in the area, definitely try this place! There usually is a line right around when I visit, so waiting in the car is certainly nice during a hot summer day. Dairy Bar opening for the season means it's "officially summer." DB reminds me of an ice cream shop I used to go to as a child with my grandma. Unsure why people complain about the parking lot being small etc.? It's a mom and pop shop... not a restaurant with a valet service! I do agree with the commentary on being cash only. Would be cool if they accepted CC. However, they probably don't because they charge like $3 for an ice cream cone.
