Family of 5 for under $12! Woo hoo! But... NO MORE SPRINKLE CONES... well at least not for my boys... well as long as it's cold and they are eating them in the car. The backseat of our car is covered in sprinkles and the rears of my boys pants are covered in melted mushed colors as well. Experiment gone wrong, yeah, but the truth is it was worth it. The ice cream tastes different here. It's fluffy and rich! There is no other way to describe it. It's light and airy and melts in your mouth. And, according to the sign on the window it's mostly fat free. Cones include your basic, sugar or waffle. When it comes to the menu there are so many options it's crazy. There are various dips and toppings for days. It was super crowded when we came over the weekend, so I had to order quickly. Next time I'll be a bit more creative. We opted for size small, not kiddie size (yep they have it) chocolate ice cream in sugar cones with sprinkles on top. Note: Dip in chocolate first and then add sprinkles. It will stay on better. I got a size small sugar cone with chocolate ice cream and peanut topping. There was a new kid making them, so mine came out smaller than my boys. I got the kiddie! I was super bummed, but summer is coming and maybe it was a hint I should only have a couple of bites. We did get a couple of dip cones and one classic chocolate/vanilla twist. All size small, and well worth it. I will be back, but next time I'll snap a picture of the menu before I get up to the line to make sure I don't miss out on an experimental ice cream experience! Yep, parking is crazy. Yep, it's crowded, so you've been warned. Love this place. Reminds me of my childhood ice cream stop. There is no better way to celebrate a gorgeous spring Friday afternoon than to put the top down, crank up some Of Monsters and Men, and tool on over to the Glenview Dairy Bar for a post-lunch milkshake. They were good enough to combine two flavors for me, so I got exactly what I was craving. Beautiful. FYI that this is quite a tricky place to park considering that there are about 8 parking spots total surrounding The Dairy Bar and the lot is super tight, plus pulling out of the lot onto Harlem can be quite tricky as it is right by the busier-ish intersection of Harlem and Glenview Rd... That aside, this place serves up some service with a smile, for sure. The workers are great and, in my most recent visit to the place, had an "I'm lovin this job look on their faces". (at least the few workers helping us did! :) And the service is quite efficient! Even with long lines on hot summer days, they get you your ice cream in a jiffy! Now the ice cream itself is rather good! Hits the spot as they say ;) I've ordered the chocolate soft-serve cone topped/coated with their cinnamon pecans - and boy, the pecans MAKE IT. awesome variance in textures from the smooth, creaminess of the ice cream to the sweet crunch of the sugared nuts...mmmm... Growing up in Glenview, the Dairy Bar has been a staple of hot, summer days. Please make an important note to call it Dairy Bar and not dare say Dairy Queen accidentally! Us Glenviewians will take high offense to such monstrosities. I have fond memories of growing up in Swainwood and riding bikes with friends to get soft served dipped in chocolate and sitting at the train tracks. They've put up a gate now I believe, but we used to put pennies on the tracks for fun and get them all smashed & flattened. If I didn't get a chocolate dipped in chocolate cone, I had to get a sundae in a baseball hat. I collected so many of those plastic baseball caps as a kid! The line can get INSANELY long during the summer full of people out on walks, holding their bikes & skateboards in line and parked all the way down the block. The parking lot is small so fills quickly. It's worth the wait! read more

Dairy Bar is my favorite place to buy ice cream from! I live in Glenview where there is a lot of competition for ice cream including: Oberweis and Graeters. They are only available during the Spring/Summer months, (May, June, July, August, September). There parking lot is also pretty small, and they are cash only. I went a few months ago and got a root beer float. IT WAS AMAZINGLY GOOD!!!!! At the Glenview Dairy Bar there are also a ton of customization options to make your ice cream your own. Very nice staff, and customer service over all is great! You can even work there yourself once you turn 18 years old! I know I will! read more

I took my students here on a field trip and it was just okay. I did not really understand all of the hype. It was a bunch of loud middle schoolers hanging around seeing how many swears they could spew out in one sentence. I found it a bit annoying. But since it is an outdoor venue, it kind of allows for more loitering. The ice cream itself was really good. I actually got a Boston milkshake. I think it was a chocolate milkshake with toasted marshmallow inside. Super yummy. The service was also really friendly and helpful. They were great with the chaos of us bringing a bunch of students there. Also parking is very limited and difficult to maneuver. We had ice cream for dinner last week. Don't tell the grandmas or I wont hear the end of it, although I bet one of them has over-indulged my son with sweets on more than one occasion. But the great thing about Glenview Dairy Bar was that the ice cream didn't taste overly sweet or heavy. And they had kiddie options for cones so you didn't have to get these monstrous ice cream creations either (unless that's what you're looking for). We love soft serve. And to be able to dip it in different flavor toppings or sprinkles or flavor bursts mixed in just gives you so many options to enjoy it. Cash only and really inexpensive (cheap!). My son got the kiddie swirl cone (chocolate/vanilla) and dipped in cotton candy topping. I got the kiddie dreamsicle swirl. Both were so good. That cotton candy topping is just sweet enough and my son liked it so much he asked for seconds. Guess that kiddie cone is too small for him now. My dreamsicle blend was super refreshing. Orange citrus and cream--just a wonderful combination. I wish there was better seating. We sat on the seats in the parking lot and some crazed driver screeched into the spot so fast...I really thought we'd get hit. Some people were sitting outside the donut shop next door. It's ok. That's how I feel about. Ok. Ice cream shouldn't be ok. If ice cream is ok, there is something wrong with this world. When I go to an ice cream shop for the first time, I always keep it simple. If you put too much fancy stuff on it or in it, are you really judging ice cream or the "stuff". I got a cone dipped in dark chocolate. The option of dark chocolate was nice. However, I thought it was quite small for a medium size. Maybe it's just my proportions for ice cream that aren't a reality. The ice cream reminded me of McDonald's, not in a good way. It wasn't very cream. Almost had an after taste. I absolutely Love Dairy Bar and have been going there for the past 6 years! Well today, I was very disappointed in there customer service. I gave my husband my order because I had to step away. He ordered for me and he brought it to me, only to find out it was the wrong thing I ordered. I took it back n told them I wanted the peanut butter cup topping instead of the hard shell. They argued with me and said that he ordered it and you have to pay for another one! they should have just made mine correct free of charge. very upsetting. You should always make the customer happy. By far the best ice cream in the world. This has been a tradition in my family for years. I always get a swirl on a cone with rainbow sprinkles- simple yet a classic. It is always amazing!! They have so many flavors though of hard shells and ice cream creations too. Also, they have the good type of sprinkles (the fluffy kind)! The right machine is creamier and the left is fluffier! It's makes you feel like you're going back in time for a brief moment. It's also nice that they have so many coating and topping options for soft served ice cream. Other than those perks, I wouldn't say their ice cream is anything to necessarily rave about. It taste like your typical soft serve and besides lots of toppings options, you don't really get a lot of variety here compared to ice cream shops with buckets of different flavors. However, I don't think that's necessarily what this place is for. You go here for the experience of walking up to a cute, small store front on a summer night and getting some soft served ice cream for around $2. Super simple. Just a warning though, their parking lot is super small and compact, which makes it tricky to park in. The teenagers that work in here need an adult manager. Cashier dropped the spoon for one of my ice creams picked it off the ground and still shoved it in the ice cream. And the kid making my ice cream kept eating it. I told him I saw him eating that ice cream he just handed me and he said he had to taste it for consistency. If you make it all day long I would assume you would know how to do it right. I was so grossed out by him eating out of it. It's been years since I came here, but I always knew of its existence near the corner of Harlem and Glenview Rd. I finally got a chance to stop here after we finished having fun at Flick Park's pool. This is to ice cream what Paradise Pup is to hot dogs and burgers. As expected, there was a line of people ordering ice cream and the parking lot was packed - not only with cars but people in between the parked cars enjoying ice cream on a warm and humid summer night. While it would be nice if they had some outdoor seating, there's plenty of room to hang out nearby as you enjoy your treats. Glenview Dairy Bar has a pretty extensive list of toppings for sundaes and a variety of cones to choose from. There's even a kosher/low carb ice cream if you want to go that route. For me, I just had a chocolate-dipped sundae. The kids each got a kid-sized cone, which really are a good deal at 95 cents each. The place is a bargain compared to DQ. After we ordered, we sat near the curb not too far from the shop and watched distant lightning flash in the northern sky - too far away to hear the thunder. For us, it was like theatre as we wondered how far off and if it's getting closer or moving away from us. A place like this is one of the elements that should comprise everyone's summer. Alright. Last review on this place I SWEAR. Visited this lovely spot with Mama Lee today to indulge in some soft serve on a hot May day, and I decided to go for something other than my usual--a soft serve dip! I was a little weary with my decision because a lot of places that have chocolate dips tend to be more candy-like than chocolate-y, but good God was I wrong. Long have I waited to write a review for this place. We have visited this place for every summer that we have lived down the block. All my kids love ice cream and everything frozen, especially during the hot summer months. Since recently, this place has been my ace in the hole for when I need to get unusual requests done by my kids. Call it a trade off, call it a bribe, I call it a done deal if this gets me the look that I need for my images. I myself am not a fan of soft serve ice cream. I never grew up with stuff. Growing up my household consisted of Breyer's brand Neapolitan, Butter Pecan, and the occasional Mint Chocolate Chip. My tastes where never refined to the soft serve dip cone. (I think my buds where neurally connected to the taste of higher percentages of butter fat)! I order kid size swirl cone, sometimes vanilla dipped with milk chocolate, and 2 Frozen (as tall as my youngest) Mr. Freeze Popsicles. This seals my end of the deal. Long lines curtail from window openings. Hot dogs and concession type food only sold before 5pm. Parking available in lot and on street. My fave is definitely the strawberry flavor burst- it's soft serve in a cone with ribbons of strawberry (or other flavors including blue raspberry, lemon or mango or like 10 other flavors) on the outside of the ice cream. They have sundaes, shakes, splits- you name it, they probably have it. They also have a low-cal version of their ice cream called "Glace" if you feel like you've splurged enough just by coming here... Beware, in the summer lines can get long and there will be people parked all jacked up on Harlem trying to get some of these cool sweet treats! I opted for a 'candy blast' shake with my typical Dairy Queen combo of chocolate ice cream and Reese's (excuse me while I wipe the drool off my keyboard), but they guy screwed up and gave me vanilla. Well I have to say that we should have come here more often, and I am jealous of Glenview and their cute little dairy bar. For one, the prices are way cheaper.
