Yummy ice cream! A little costly, but pretty similar to other ice cream parlors nowadays due to inflation. The people working today (fourth of July) were working fast and still friendly! I got the rainbow sherbet and it was delicious and perfectly refreshing for this hot day. There are a few tables inside which provided respite from the heat and sun outside. The decor is cute and felt very homey.

Travelled from Chicago to get Superman ice cream. Did a taste and it was not authentic. Michiganders looking for Superman try another spot. We did get 4 other flavors and they were great. Cool spot with a nice outdoor to enjoy your ice cream on a hot summer day

Kids love this place and the ice cream is delicious! Tons of options that make it difficult for a 5yr old and 3 yr old to decide. Awesome team of young adults that provide quick and friendly customer service.

My mom and I wanted to go to Hartigan's for their black cherry ice cream. On our way there, we got a tornado warning telling us to take shelter. Without hesitation.... we still went to Hartigan's...! I won't recommend getting ice cream in the time of a tornado warning to ANYONE (please be safe) but that's just how great Hartigan's ice cream is! We werent the only ones there when we arrived, so clearly there are more like us who live by Hartigan's. The shop is located a bit farther down Central St from the other bakeries and cafes, but it is definitely worth it! My mom always always gets their black cherry if it is available, and I like to go back and forth between their variety of chocolate flavors. There are some booths and additional seating inside for customers! Outside, there are some picnic tables and benches for seating as well. It is street parking only. And bathrooms are for employees only. For two people, i always bring in $10 in cash. It is a bit on the pricier side for sure (esp if you get them in waffle cones), but the ice cream tastes fresh, never has ice crystals, and is so smooth. It's always so nice seeing people of all ages there every time, all there to enjoy ice cream :) Warning: their waffle cones have leaked on me a few times so beware! Also, keep a tasting spoon if you ask for a sample, and you can use it to work on your cone :)

Hartigan's....part of my family for soooo many years! Chill summer evenings spent in the cheap chairs outside, waiting in line with kids cutting through the group looking for what they want and totally ignoring personal space....perfect. Hartigan's is what a local family ice cream place should be. Great ice cream, teens taking orders, many flavors, shakes, malts, ice cream cakes, many things to add to your sundae., and cheap seating outside to sit and enjoy the people you're with that night. I'll be going back for as long as they're around. So many great memories...

Given the single origin sourced dairy is used to make the ice cream, I had expectations that the ice cream will have a strong, forward dairy flavor -- similar or if not better than Oberweis. I ate 3 scoops of the following ice cream: - Big Muddy (dark chocolate ice cream with salty caramel ribbon and brownie chunks) - Daily Grind (coffee ice cream with caramel ribbon and chocolate covered espresso pieces) - Sea Turtle (chocolate and caramel ice cream) Of the three, the best IMO was the Sea Turtle, where the flavors itself did not overpower the dairy. I liked the flavor ideas of the other two, but the flavors overpowered the creamy dairy flavor. I'll stick with Oberweis for now until I find something better in Chicagoland area.

Super friendly staff. I go there for their iced americanos cause I work across the street and definitely need a caffeine buzz in the afternoon. There is a coffee shop nearby but the staff there is not very friendly and they have definitely over charged me. I've had hartigans ice cream a couple times and it's really good but I've had to cutback on the sugar lately. Their espresso is delicious and the kids who work here are nice and hard working. I always forget they don't like taking cards for small transactions but I really appreciate that they have accommodated me a few times. I'll just have to remember to take out cash from now on. Highly recommend this place.

Icecream is great, just a little pricey. I would go back as the service is friendly and the store is very clean.

I used to hang out in this area for three years straight for dance class and grad school and just totally overlooked it. It was founded in 1988, and I have no clue when it came to Chicago though so maybe I didn't. I just had a sweet tooth after leaving Blue Sushi across the street (and didn't realize they had a dessert menu). I could not care less about cake, donuts or pie, but I can demolish ice cream and/or candy like nobody's business. The problem is, as a second-round vegan, it's tough for me to find nondairy desserts. I poked my head in here 99.9% sure they were going to say everything was dairy. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they had a new Silk chocolate almond milk ice cream. I wish I caught the lady's name that was there today because she was so bubbly and friendly. When I stared at her in confusion after she asked me did I want "Like it, Love It or Gotta Have It," I realized this order was about to be involved. I like the way that the employees mix your toppings around in the ice cream instead of dumping them on top where you end up eating them way too fast. A family member stopped to take my pic while I tasted a spoonful, and I guess I looked extra happy because I caught the lady behind the counter smile as big as I did. Happiness is contagious. Anyway, love the place. Love my almond milk frozen dessert. There's only one table to sit at and someone was there, so I flopped down on a nearby bench and enjoyed my birthday sweet!

We'd already spent most of the day eating, so we decided to share the Atomic Fudge Sundae. It's a fairly enormous concoction. I found it interesting that the hot fudge was served on the side, but it's actually pretty smart because you get control how much (or how little) sauce you get. The ice cream is the highlight. It's creamy and rich, and it's got a really nice flavor, too. The hot fudge was less impressive, but that might be because I had already eaten a Ghirardelli sundae earlier in the day and their hot fudge just can't be beat. The service was super friendly and the atmosphere was kitschy and fun. It's a cool place.
