Ahhh, NOSTALGIA. Everyone's favourite ice-cream....well, definitely not everyone but for a number of people in Columbus or Cincinnati, Ohio. Graeter's Ice-Cream was started in Cincinnati but I grew up going to Graeter's in Columbus, Ohio. I always enjoy coming back to Graeter's whenever I visit Columbus because there isn't one close by to where I live in Cleveland. ICE-CREAMS AND MALTS -- I love getting the toffee chip ice-cream which is my favourite one to get. I also love getting their Malt drinks which is ice-cream melted down with milk (I believe milk). Everything is fresh and homemade or made in-house. You can get ice-cream on a cone or in a cup. You can also buy one of their to-go ice-cream containers. TIP -- Get their loyalty card. I think after 10 punches you get a free ice-cream. TIP 2 -- Big grocery stores now sell Graeter's Ice-Cream pints (small containers) in the freezer aisle. This location in Bexley is my go-to location because I've come here for years and customer service is always friendly and attentive. This is THE Graeter's, as far as I'm concerned. Conveniently located, decorated very enjoyably (the door handles made out of ice cream scoops being a perfect example), with tons of delicious ice cream flavors and extra confections to buy as well should you desire...Graeter's is fantastic, and no Graeter's more so than here in my humble opinion. There's patio seating out back -- perfect for summer -- and the inside of the store smells so good, like fudge and sugar. Get your dog a treat or pick up an extra pint to take home. Me and my daughter were coming in to Bexley to visit my grandmother for Thanksgiving, and she recommended this place. As a major ice cream enthusiast, I had to try! Immediately once entering the facility, I felt a warm and embracing atmosphere and a delicious smell make its way past my overgrown nose hairs. Just jokes! In all seriousness, I felt very welcome. Shortly thereafter, we looked at the menu and saw the wide and interesting variety of flavors. The server told me that black raspberry chip was the way to go. Me and my daughter indulged into the cream and, simply put, our tastebuds were overjoyed. The ice cream's consistency was perfect. Its texture hugged my soul. Graeter's is a Columbus icon and is situated directly across the street from the Capital University campus in Bexley. This is a brightly lit, typical American ice cream shop with plenty of seating and some nice park style benches outside where you can watch people go by on the sidewalk and cars on the busy Main Street boulevard. Kind of like what you'd expect to see in a Norman Rockwell painting! Nearby, you'll find an art house theater, the Drexel, so a fun evening for friends, or a romantic evening out for couples can be to pair a visit to Graeter's with taking in a movie at the Drexel. These are both independently operated historic businesses that harken to an earlier time when life moved at a slower enjoyable pace. *Updating review from a 4 to 5* Wow-- what was wrong with 2018 Chelsea where she felt like limited parking and the color of the Mint Choc Chop ice cream would dock an ENTIRE star off of the best ice cream that's out there?! For real though-- I have loved ice cream for my entire life and it wasn't until 2019 where I can officially claim Graeter's as the best ice cream out there. I would usually head to either Graeter's, Johnson's or Jeni's on Sundays since I go to church in Bexley. But now the only option for me is Graeter's because I'm just obsessed with it. As you can see (as of August 2019) I am the Duchess of this Graeter's on Yelp and I don't plan to stop anytime soon! Sure the parking is limited, but who cares?! Especially since I'm going there on the weekends when I truly don't even think the towing is enforced because the other local businesses aren't even present. And the color of the ice cream thing--- that's just a suggestion, not a reason to rate them lower! I'm embarrassed at my former self. Also, the most recent time I went to this location, an associate named Ryanne could not have been more friendly! She had the biggest smile on her face! I went in to buy a hat (because yes I love Graeter's that much) and unfortunately the one I wanted was on display high up. I kept apologizing to her that I was asking her climb up there and she kept smiling and said "No! It's my pleasure to go up there and get that for you!" Ugh I LOVED her! First went to Graeter's in Cincinnati, then again in Kentucky, but my first time visiting in Columbus when my parents were in town. I will say, I am pretty loyal to Jeni's, but wanted to give Graeter's a fair chance. I've had the black raspberry chocolate chip previously (their specialty), so I wanted to try something new this time. I went for the Boldly Bearcat - vanilla ice cream chock full of red velvet cookie pieces and chocolate chips. It was quite delicious - loved the red velvet! My parents went for the Chunky Chunky Hippo (think Snickers bar in an ice cream), and my dad got an extra scoop of Buckeye Blitz. They both enjoyed theirs too! Prices are slightly less than Jeni's, but one huge downside is that you aren't able to split flavors at Graeter's (i.e. can only get 1 flavor for 1 scoop vs 1/2 of 2 different flavors). While 2 scoops doesn't cost too much more, I definitely wish I could enjoy 2 flavors for the price of one. One nice thing though...when I was checking out, the cashier asked if I got a kid's cup, and when I said it was just a single scoop, she said I didn't get enough ice cream, so went back and filled up my cup a little more lol. This was a nice touch! Graeter's is solid traditional ice cream and at a reasonable price - I would probably come back here with my parents, but if I was choosing to get ice cream on my own, I think I would still choose Jeni's (more interesting flavors, can split scoops), even despite being slightly more expensive. But still a good addition to the CBus ice cream scene - thanks for making my night a little bit sweeter, Graeter's! read more

This was my first time at graeter's in Bexley/period and the parking lot was very small and hard to find somewhere to park. They had a lot of different flavors to choose from! And I got cookies and cream ice cream because they wouldn't let me taste anything because of the long line!! I had a waffle cone as well! We didn't stay to eat our ice cream, but the place looked really clean! It was packed! There was a lot of kids and very loud. We sat in the car and listen to music and eat our ice cream. After an underwhelming dinner at an Italian place down the street, we were excited to finally have some dessert. My brother is a student at OSU at he raves about Jeni's, but was intrigued to try Graeter's. The place reminded me of Ghirardelli's with regard to decor (old timey and proud of its roots), but we weren't here to enjoy the scenery. We were here to get some ice cream. One thing I noticed was that almost all of the flavors have chocolate chunks added, a big bonus if that's your thing. I ordered buckeye flavor (peanut butter and chocolate, like the Ohioan candy staple) and it was rich and flavorful. I loved it! My brother enjoyed his flavors, but said it barely paled in comparison to Jeni's. The jury is still out with me but for now, I'm Team Graeter's. read more

Stopped in on a whim. I think we'd been here before, and I know Sweetie had. Saturday night, a bit of a line, but not too bad. Super friendly and helpful service. Sweetie got a triple in a dish (banana boat,) hoping to save some for later. It did survive the heat and her appetite. She loved the key lime, and said it tasted like a pie. I had a scoop of bourbon pecan chip. The usual huge chunks of chocolate, plus plenty of nuts and a little bourbon flavor. None of it survived the trip home... Graeter's is a nice alternative to Jeni's when you want an old-school ice cream parlor, plus it's semi-local. The interior is nostalgic, clean, and bright. There are a few tables outside. read more

I'm totally a Graeter's fan because of a couple of favorite flavors that are always there. This location is actually where I found 2 of my seasonal favorites that I cannot get in a grocery store. So your wondering what are my favorite flavors? The ones that are always there are the black raspberry chocolate chip, peanut butter chip, and mocha chip. The seasonal favorite are the peach and Elena's Blueberry Pie. Oh my god, are the seasonal flavors to die for! I am waiting to see if they have a pint of the Elena's Blueberry Pie right now so that I can introduce it to my husband, although knowing him I think he would prefer to go with the peach flavor. The customer service here is friendly but they don't go above and beyond in my opinion. For instance, the few times I've been there I've tried to be mindful of how many samples I would try of flavors I don't usually get because I realize they may not enjoy giving out so many samples a day. Also I've had to take a couple of my conversations outside because people were being too loud when I was here with a professional group. Growing up on Graeter's, made family functions fun because we always knew there would be a delicious treat. I still consider the times I come here for fun or because I helped someone out that appreciated my work and wanted to bring me here to acknowledge what I have done to make an impact on others. I will definitely be back and of course to find my seasonal favorites! I also encourage you all to go out there and try a flavor you have not tried before. You may not know this about me, but my dad's side of the family is from the Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati area. I didn't grow up there from an infant myself (Navy brat!) but I did spend a good number of summers with my grandparents. And, ice cream is my favorite dessert of all time. So, almost needless to say, I ate a lot of Graeter's on those hot summer nights spent visiting my dad's extended family. My first memories of ice cream are, in fact, spent at the Graeter's in Newport, Kentucky with my grandparents tasting flavors and picking out just the right one for the occasion. Graeter's is the standard to which I hold all of my ice cream experiences, as a result. With all that in mind, it's obvious that I'm going to rate their ice cream as a solid 5-star experience. It's what I love. But each location has different staff and different set-ups. So that's what this review is mostly focusing on. I really love this location. It's clean, close to my home, and has adequate "old timey" feel. The staff is usually very friendly and quick. Such a great Graeter's! I went here on a day when they were giving away free ice cream cones to support a non profit organization. I ended up buying a coupon book (to get more free ice cream!) and can't wait to go back. They have a nice patio behind the building where you can slowly enjoy your ice cream. Ever since the Great Jeni's Depression of 2015, I've been forced to betray my homegirl and source out other delicious frozen treats. Fortunately (unfortunately?) for me, there's a Graeter's at the end of my street. I'm preparing for the internet slaying: I'd never tried Graeter's until this year. While I think the Jeni's experience is magical and sparkly, the Graeter's one falls a bit flat for me. Not bad, just not sparkly. The team members are friendly and helpful, but they don't seem excited. And not that they can help this -- but the clientele here is a bit... different. Not bad, just different. I'm gonna be honest: I think some of their flavors are crap. But others -- they're so good. I think anything with chocolate is their sweet spot. I'm not even a big chocolate fan, but I can't pass it up here. It's a special type of chocolate that makes these big, soft chunks throughout the ice cream, and it's perfect. My personal preference is strawberry with chocolate chunks. It's like homemade ice cream with these big, chewy chunks of milk chocolate. The Mister loves their cookies & cream and their mint chocolate chip. It's flavors like these -- where they're completely different from the Dairy Heir -- that make Graeter's sing. I won't be making the switch from Jeni's anytime soon, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy some Graeter's now and then. At the end of the day, it's tasty small-batch ice cream. One tiny gripe that I wish they would get right: When you're only picking up pints, you're supposed to go straight to the cashier. This confuses the people in line for scoops, and they give you the side eye or barge in front of you. It always makes me uncomfortable. read more
