Cute little place, we have been here before sometime last year and I feel like this time the flavor of the chocolate just wasn't as good. I liked the Dubai chocolates and they were decent. The chocolate raspberry truffles were good. My husband let me try a chocolate covered cherry and it was just ok. I felt like the prices were a bit steep for what we got but whatever. read more

This is my go to study spot! They have a nice selection of seating for individuals and groups and I loved their menu. Their hot chocolate is so rich and creamy. It's my go to treat after taking an exam. They also have delicious blue berry muffins and their chocolates in the case are tasty as well. Quite frankly, it is average. In a city filled with incredibly unique coffee shops, there was nothing to make Winans stand out. In all fairness, I didn't try any of their chocolates, so I can't comment on that aspect. My iced vanilla latte was good. The inside of the shop lacked in ambiance, so I took a seat outside. Absolutely loved this chocolate shop. The frozen hot chocolate I had was absolutely delicious. The iced mocha was so good as well. We also got 1/2 lb chocolate - top quality dark chocolate. So decadent and worth every calorie ingested ! The shop is very spacious - well displayed and the servers were friendly and helpful. One special mention is that their bathroom is of exemplary standard. I loved their hand soap so much that I had to take a picture of it to see if I can buy it somewhere in California ! Another spot forced upon me by my company. If I wasn't dictated to come here more than likely I wouldn't. The only thing I come this way for is the ALWAYS fabulous Brown Bag Deli, Jenis, and Schiller Park. I won't let me being ORDERED HERE jade my review. I'm not big on coffee, tea, or lattes and nothing else stuck out to me on their menu other than their smoothies. The smoothie was just okay, kinda gritty, and not that sweet which is a good thing if you're looking to save on calories etc. After my company event was over I decided to purchase some of their chocolates which was a MISTAKE. They were all basic, nothing too special, small and pricey. The few I got were like $15-$20 bucks. Wild right! I don't know if it's a because we're in German Village thing or a "its inflation," excuse EVERYBODY is using nowadays to justify jacking up their prices astronomically. Winans has great drinks (the frozen chai was my fav) and even better chocolates. The buckeyes were my guilty pleasure, and it was hard to stop myself from eating a dozen on a weekly basis. They have a few tables inside and outside, but the best way to enjoy Winans is by taking your drinks and candies to Schiller Park and strolling around. Winans German Village is another one of my favorite coffee shops in Columbus. The shop has limited interior seating. There are also a few outdoor tables. During the warmer months there are often people and their dogs. My go to drink is the vanilla latte. The drink is very sweet and smooth. They offer four size options on hot drinks. I usually go with the largest option. Winans prices are very affordable. Their largest size costs less than much smaller options at other shops. They also have a loyalty program. Frequent customers can earn free drinks. Of course Winans also has a large selection of sweets. Prices are more expensive on the sweets. The quality of the candy is top notch. Today I got a white chocolate candy. In summation, Winans is worth a visit for coffee and candy lovers. read more

I had pretty high expectations for this shop but was unfortunately disappointed. We got a 15 pack of assorted chocolates and I could barely eat one they were so, so incredibly sweet and kind of artificial tasting. I also grabbed a seasonal latte - a hot summer nights mocha with oatmilk- and could only take a few sips because it was so overwhelmingly sweet. I was disappointed because the flavors mentioned (chocolate, cinnamon and hazelnut) sounded great but it was far too much sugar. A much more mild sweetener would be a better option for this drink. We swung through here on our way out of town after an OSU football game. Hubby is an alum and wanted to treat the girls to some buckeyes. I ran inside to get the treats while they idled in the car outside. I bought a pound of buckeyes for $24.99 and added about 5 individual truffles of varying flavors for myself (because I'm not eating any peanut butter dessert). The common feedback is that the buckeyes either don't have enough chocolate or have too much peanut butter. The truffles were great! If you don't want to order out of the case, there are several options of pre-packaged treats and some novelty gifts and cards. There was a menu of coffee/hot drink options that I didn't really entertain. While I was greeted and helped very quickly, their outdoor tables were pretty full of guests and there was at least one party seated inside as well. I went here for the first time with some friends a couple weekends ago and I had a great time! We stopped in and saw the variety of chocolates which looked delicious! The person I ordered from was really sweet and the drink came out pretty fast. I ordered the buckeye frappe and it was good. I purchased some Highlander Grogg (YUM!) in K-cups, and sadly the pods were defective. They exploded in the Keurig. I reported the defect, was immediately met with empathy for my plea to find a new production vendor, and refunded without hassle for my defective purchase. After working a weekend in Columbus OH, The German Village was the one thing I needed to go see before leaving. Winans was the first place I wanted to see and it certainly set the tone and was exactly what I needed. Their chocolate is absolutely divine and can be bought by weight. SO if your perfect amount is between their pre set 6 piece box or 15 piece box, you're in luck! And I'll be thinking of the Highland Grog chocolate for months to come. Their summer selection of espresso beverages was also delicious! I got their Orange Creamsicle Breve which is White Chocolate and Orange in a Breve espresso. Winans has a handful of locations in the city. This was my first time here. It was past 10:15 am but there were two others meeting and chatting up for coffee. I did see two others come to get to go. I came with two friends and we just did a grab and go too. There aren't a ton of tables in here. It didn't seem busy, so I'm sure we could've sat a while. Upon entering, you see all these chocolates and gift baskets. Some of which had OSU mugs! Cute! We came for the coffee though. It seemed a bit too early for chocolate. I got the Karamel Kiss which I told them to tone down a bit on the sweetness. It had vanilla and caramel in the latte. With soy milk, it was pretty good! Nothing spectacular but it was delicious and a great, warm drink since it's a cold fall day. My friend had the same thing but with regular milk. She liked it! And my other friend got a seasonal drink: cozy caramel latte. It has caramel and brown sugar cinnamon. Yum! I'd come back again, although I'm interested in checking out the other locations. I've previously been to other locations and happened to swing by here as it was a stop on the coffee passport. The interior is adorable and quaint. The service is friendly, everyone who helped me was very nice. I got a few chocolates for the kids, they have car shaped chocolates wrapped in an adorable car foil, a perfect treat for and kid who is car-obsessed. There was a treat for everyone! However I'm docking a star because the frozen chai I got was maybe one of the worst drinks I've ever had, and I've had cheap vodka mixed with store brand sugar-free koolaid just as a point of reference. I grabbed the chai on my way out and was several blocks away before I got to my car and had my first sip. It was... so bad. It was so bad you guys. I think maybe it was just chai concentrate blended with ice? There was no creaminess, just water grossly sweet almost sour flavor. I was too far gone to go back so I just tossed it. If anyone has had a chai there and you think I just got one that was made wrong please let me know. I'd love to give them a second try but I'm a touch traumatized. Other people seem to really enjoy the coffee though, so I can see myself coming back and ordering anything other than that chai. read more

This has become my new "go-to" coffee spot in German Village. I live fairly close to Schiller Park and it is within walking distance from my house. They do currently have seating, but are limiting the amount of people in the store to 6 people (It's a smaller store and I appreciate the concern for the current pandemic.) They also have outside seating which is great with the weather change and the current pandemic limitations. The people behind the counter are always nice, pleasant, patient and helpful to all. I will say if you are a coffee only person, this is the spot for you as their drip coffee is amazing. They also have some of the best Chai in town. I love extra spicy chai (which they have and you have to ask for it fyi) and its amazing. Do yourself a favor and add 2 shots to their chai latte. You can thank me later! They also have other seasonal drinks that they change and are always delicious! My go to order is a house blend and a double dark meltaway. You can go order this and thank me later. After choosing six different varieties of chocolates, I was charged for the box of six (filled with 4 chocolates), with an additional charge for the wurtles and orange peels. I wish the employees would tell me that the "orange peel" and "wurtles" are charged separately/not included as a variety in the box of 6.
