Enjoying an ice vanilla latte and a gorgeous day!
Debbie F.

Quite frankly, it is average. In a city filled with incredibly unique coffee shops, there was nothing to make Winans stand out. In all fairness, I didn't try any of their chocolates, so I can't comment on that aspect. My iced vanilla latte was good. The inside of the shop lacked in ambiance, so I took a seat outside. On a beautiful fall afternoon it was nice to watch the world go by. My coffee was prepared in great time. I found the staff to be not rude, but certainly not welcoming.

Cute little coffee shop with a huge selection of chocolates. We found easy parking on the street about a block away and stopped for an afternoon iced caramel late and iced mocha. Both were great!

Chocolate Lattes came in these reusable cups, definitely a bonus!! - Two black reusable coffee cups with lids are placed on a wooden table, one featuring the Columbus Coffee Trail logo and a QR code. A purple flyer with images of buckeye treats and chocolates provides information about the Columbus Buckeye Treat Trail, including details about prizes and participation. The setting appears to be a cafe or coffee shop, with a laptop and chairs visible in the background.

Stopped by Winans for our second stop on the Cbus Coffee Trail. Their secret menu item is the Mocha Latte. We also ordered a chocolate chip scone. Staff members were pleasant. There are a couple of areas to seat, so plenty of room to chat or work for a minute. Chocolates looked delicious, will have to stop back to check those out!

I started taking my daughter to Winans on report card day for a treat! She's now in college! I took my 4yr old granddaughter today to carry on the traditional. We love picking out our own box of our favorites! It's such a special time for us.

Absolutely loved this chocolate shop. The frozen hot chocolate I had was absolutely delicious. The iced mocha was so good as well. We also got 1/2 lb chocolate - top quality dark chocolate. So decadent and worth every calorie ingested ! The shop is very spacious - well displayed and the servers were friendly and helpful. One special mention is that their bathroom is of exemplary standard. I loved their hand soap so much that I had to take a picture of it to see if I can buy it somewhere in California ! Will be returning for sure in our future trips.

Classic smoothie. Nothing to write home to mom about.

Another spot forced upon me by my company. If I wasn't dictated to come here more than likely I wouldn't. The only thing I come this way for is the ALWAYS fabulous Brown Bag Deli, Jenis, and Schiller Park. I won't let me being ORDERED HERE jade my review. I'm not big on coffee, tea, or lattes and nothing else stuck out to me on their menu other than their smoothies. The smoothie was just okay, kinda gritty, and not that sweet which is a good thing if you're looking to save on calories etc. After my company event was over I decided to purchase some of their chocolates which was a MISTAKE. They were all basic, nothing too special, small and pricey. The few I got were like $15-$20 bucks. Wild right! I don't know if it's a because we're in German Village thing or a "its inflation," excuse EVERYBODY is using nowadays to justify jacking up their prices astronomically. I'd rather spend $15-$20 on a sandwich at Brown Bag Deli as opposed to 5 or 6 little pieces of chocolate you could get flavor wise from anywhere like ALDIs, Walmart, CVS, or the hood corner store

Winans German Village is another one of my favorite coffee shops in Columbus. The shop has limited interior seating. There are also a few outdoor tables. During the warmer months there are often people and their dogs. My go to drink is the vanilla latte. The drink is very sweet and smooth. They offer four size options on hot drinks. I usually go with the largest option. Winans prices are very affordable. Their largest size costs less than much smaller options at other shops. They also have a loyalty program. Frequent customers can earn free drinks. Of course Winans also has a large selection of sweets. Prices are more expensive on the sweets. The quality of the candy is top notch. Today I got a white chocolate candy. In summation, Winans is worth a visit for coffee and candy lovers.

Love their chocolates! Coffee is good too. Didn't get either this trip in. Stopped by to grab a banana bread slice for later today. Yum. If you ever have a chance to grab one, do. In my opinion its better than the Fox In Snow one. The barista moves people with speed. I enjoy stopping here... they always have soft enjoyable music and the smell of coffee and chocolate... what's not to like???

Coffee and sugar free chocolate were good. Wish the chocolate was prepared with stevia/monk fruit because it's kinder to digestion and blood sugar.

A coffee station setup includes a wall-mounted sign that says 'Coffee,' with decorative greenery and a lavender-filled vase. Below, there are shelves holding glasses, boxes of supplies, and a small bowl. A water dispenser is positioned on the left side of the station, and various small items are arranged on the black shelves. The setup is in an indoor space with neutral-colored walls and black trim.

I had pretty high expectations for this shop but was unfortunately disappointed. We got a 15 pack of assorted chocolates and I could barely eat one they were so, so incredibly sweet and kind of artificial tasting. I also grabbed a seasonal latte - a hot summer nights mocha with oatmilk- and could only take a few sips because it was so overwhelmingly sweet. I was disappointed because the flavors mentioned (chocolate, cinnamon and hazelnut) sounded great but it was far too much sugar. A much more mild sweetener would be a better option for this drink. That being said, the space itself is small but cute.

We swung through here on our way out of town after an OSU football game. Hubby is an alum and wanted to treat the girls to some buckeyes. I ran inside to get the treats while they idled in the car outside. I bought a pound of buckeyes for $24.99 and added about 5 individual truffles of varying flavors for myself (because I'm not eating any peanut butter dessert). The common feedback is that the buckeyes either don't have enough chocolate or have too much peanut butter. The truffles were great! If you don't want to order out of the case, there are several options of pre-packaged treats and some novelty gifts and cards. There was a menu of coffee/hot drink options that I didn't really entertain. While I was greeted and helped very quickly, their outdoor tables were pretty full of guests and there was at least one party seated inside as well. They have a clean single-user restroom available.

Front - The image shows the exterior of Winans Chocolates + Coffees, with a black awning displaying the business name. The storefront has a wooden door with decorative glass panels and a small sign indicating the business is open. There are outdoor tables and chairs placed on the sidewalk in front of the shop. The interior of the shop is partially visible through the large window, revealing shelves and lighting. The building number 897 is above the door.

I always order their cold brew with lite ice and a splash of oat milk. so much better than Stauff's and Starbucks in my opinion. the service is always fun and friendly

Cup o Joe - A white paper coffee cup with the Winans logo and 'x 2' written on it is positioned on a dark wooden table inside a cafe. The cup is accompanied by a black plastic lid placed upside down. In the background, a large decorative white vase is visible on the table, and through the window, a woman is seen sitting and using her phone, with outdoor scenery and sunlight illuminating the scene.

This is a great coffee shop that serves flavorful things like coffee and chocolate. I've been to Winans in Troy and Piqua but this was my first visit here. I had a double expresso and honeycomb chocolate. It's a good day!

Great meals with philosophical friends (2 of 2)…read more Rarely am I in Midwestern capital cities with beltways around them, but I do have a few friends from years ago who do live in this city's suburbs. I once ate at their famed German restaurant with the lunch buffet and the extra cost cream puffs with an Italian-American friend who is sort of an Archie Bunker with an MBA. He provides the entertainment. The last time I ate lunch in C-bus with that good friend was before the pandemic. I believe that the lunch buffet has returned to that German restaurant, but I can wait to do that on some other trip. On this last go round, I met up for lunch with a different friend with whom you can discuss the human condition ad nauseam, which is somewhat of a good thing. It's a good thing because there aren't many people who are capable of doing that and who will engage in that. However, when you wrap up such involved discussions, you might feel a little overwhelmed for a while! I got to choose the restaurant ... from out of town. I didn't like the choices with which I was presented and the only area of town I really know is the Polaris area around Ikea. I looked up listings and recommendations. Chocolate Cafe' had two things under its belt from the get-go. It's a high scoring bistro-cafe that has a noteworthy breakfast and lunch following and it has the word "chocolate" in its name. It's in that area near the Barnes and Noble west of the big state university with its logo featuring a branch that looks like a marijuana leaf. I have since learned it's not a marijuana leaf. We ordered lunch, with one entree being a Cobb salad and the other being one of their club sandwiches, the latter of which was mine. It was very good and, as is often the case with me, I could have eaten a bigger sandwich. I went through it fairly quickly, even though I did have the small and cheap Swedish breakfast at Ikea that morning. With the entrees, we ordered bowls of their popular tomato basil soup, which really hit the spot on that cold day. To drink, we ordered house coffee and a hot chocolate. The house coffee is refillable while the hot chocolate is not, but that's standard protocol just about anywhere. With a name like Chocolate Cafe,' we did not order dessert. My friend left first and I stayed behind to look at the dessert case. I later caved in for a slice of their moist and rich chocolate fudge cake to take with me. Like I said, it was moist and rich ... and also very tasty and filling. The pricing here is standard and appropriate. The service was folksy and very attentive, despite their being full on a weekend approaching the holidays. The interior is bright because of the floor-to-ceiling windows around the perimeter of the restaurant. That really scores points with me. Lastly, upon pulling in, the parking lot was full and I had to park a short walk away, all the while paying attention to parking signs and rules. This implied that Chocolate Cafe' was most likely a good place ... and that was corroborated. I have never driven down I-71 into this city's center once past its beltway. I have doglegged and taken Highway 315 - the Olentangy River Parkway. At its top end, it winds a little and it's slightly scenic. As you start approaching OSU, all these different medical towers with different specialties loom over you ... from both sides of the road! It's similar to the feeling one gets when they drive past the Texas Medical Center south of downtown Houston, as in, "What a maze ... why so many damn medical buildings?" But that doesn't affect their rating. It's just a personal pet peeve. I'm going to go with 4.5 stars for Chocolate Cafe', which obviously rounds up to 5 stars. It makes for an interesting meal and experience and, while I would not repeat it like clockwork because of how rich it can be, I could definitely see repeating it if I lived in its general area. My friend said he would be coming back with family members. That said, you clearly see two seals of approval.

My absolute go-to is their chocolate espresso martini -- and it never disappoints. The chocolate-rimmed glass instantly sets it apart from anywhere else, and every sip is the perfect balance of rich chocolate and bold espresso. It's smooth, indulgent, and honestly feels like dessert in a glass. The price point is great too, which makes it even easier to treat yourself. I also love picking up a few of their smaller desserts like the buckeyes and chocolate peanut butter pretzels. They're decadent, satisfying, and made with love. Their cakes and other items are beautifully made as well. The staff is consistently friendly, welcoming, and helpful, which really adds to the overall experience. They also offer a variety of food entrées that I haven't tried yet, but every dish I see coming out to nearby tables looks fresh, beautifully plated, and incredibly tempting. It's definitely next on my list.

The display of chocolates was completely mesmerizing and contained a wide variety of truffles and handmade candy bars. The shop owner was very friendly and also gave recommendations on what to try. I tried only two truffles because I was so full from all the foods I tried before: Lavender Hand Rolled Truffle: The truffle itself was very dense and rich with a strong presence of cocoa. Every bite melted in my mouth just like any good quality chocolate. What ruined this one was the lavender flavoring which was so overpowering that all I could taste was cocoa and lavender. Vietnamese Cinnamon Hand Rolled Truffle: I really enjoyed this one. The cinnamon and honey in the truffle paired perfectly with the strong cocoa flavor and the chocolate itself was very rich. If I was ever in the area again, I would probably come by to try their handmade candy bars and white chocolate items.
