I want to speak as a witness to something that happened Friday night that didn't sit right with me. I saw a bagpiper come into Grace O'Malley's Whiskey Chapel on Grove Street just looking to relax, like anyone else. He paid for his drink, kept to himself, and was respectful the entire time. A few people even approached him out of interest in the bagpipes, which is something he's known for. Out of nowhere, the manager had security approach him aggressively and told him, word for word, to "get the f*** out." There was no clear reason, no warning, and no justification for that kind of treatment. From what I witnessed, he didn't cause any problems or disrespect anyone. In fact, this is someone who dedicates his time to the community--playing bagpipes at funerals, honoring fallen police officers and firefighters, and supporting their families during some of their hardest moments. To see someone who gives so much back to others be treated with that level of disrespect was honestly disturbing. He handled the situation calmly and chose to leave rather than escalate things, which says a lot about his character. No one deserves to be treated that way, especially when they've done nothing but come in peacefully and respectfully. Situations like this reflect poorly on management and should be addressed. read more

Dropping in for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon, I grabbed a seat at the bar and settled in. The menu has pub standards (burgers, fish and chips, shepherds pie, et al) and what they do, they do well. I nabbed a reuben and a pint of Sullivan's. The sandwich was hearty without being too heavy, packed with tender corned beef, melted Swiss, and crisp sauerkraut between toasted rye, with pickle chips and house Russian dressing on the side. Been in JC for 2 decades and was at GOM w a friend for lunch. The place is out of control. The menu changed and the pricing increased. The bartender Liz was great as usual. Our food was high priced and low quality. My pal had a Reuben with almost no meat and lots of fat and soggy fries. I had a cheese burger w aside salad with no tomatoes or onions etc. I had 2 00Guniness for $10 each. It's the same price as a alcohol Guinness but with less ounces so price should be lower. I used to love going there with my friends for football. If they keep pricing so high and quality low we will not go there again. It's a shame because the place looks good. Irish Breakfast wasn't available in JC during the first couple years of my Uber Eats era, and I was glad to try the outstanding version from Grace O'Malley's. Yes, the banger sausage melds beautifully with the eggs. Perhaps more surprising is the fine work on the vegetable side of things including the roasted tomato. Not sure if mushrooms are an official component of Irish breakfasts but they sure worked here. The apple turnover was awesome on its own, even better when you add the whiskey sauce. read more

Second time ordering from here via delivery. Delivery was quick, hot and fresh both times. Tried the short rib last time and it was to die for, wanted to try the steak this time but they were out of it for the day. (Ordered around 4pm on a Tuesday). Glad it worked out how it did though because 1. I didn't get a photo of the short ribs last time and 2. they were what I wanted originally, just tried to push myself to try something else lol. The short ribs melt like butter, gravy is flavorful. Sides pair perfectly with it, though the carrots tasted a bit sweet last time (think it's the hot honey they say comes on them). Would rather a savory vegetable so tried the broccoli this time and it was bomb. Has an Asian fusion taste without it being over powering or understated. This place is an underrated gem. Prices are a bit high but fair for the food quality and options. Especially compared to how expensive some steak and short rib dishes can be. Been here a handful of times for lunch and drinks early evening. The GM and some of the staff are nice..The place has the look and feel of a classic Irish bar with decent food. But I give it 2 stars and I'm not going back here because a couple of staff members including the onsite manager, are dumb and nasty. The place is frequented mostly by street crowd. I just have to start off by saying that management was very accommodating. They were at capacity indoors and didn't have any open tables outdoors, but let our group order drinks at a barrel outside with a few bar chairs while we waited. Honestly, we didn't mind because we were right in front of the tv watching the playoffs. Once a table indoors became available, they let us know right away. In addition to some strong drinks, we ordered the chicken tenders, fish and chips, and curry fries to share. Everything tasted great and not like typical frozen bar food. I personally thought service was pretty good. We were checked on every once in a while but not to the point where it was annoying. Grace O'Malley's was a recent addition to the Grove Street neighborhood that we happened across the other day and decided to give it a try. The Irish pub had one of the larger outdoor seating areas among those on the block, so it really caught our attention. We were able to select the table of our choice and sat down to enjoy some beverages. My Aperol Spritz was more sweet than bitter, as it also included hibiscus liquor, a version of which I was not a fan. My boyfriend got into the spirit of the bar by ordering a Sullivan's Red Ale from Ireland, which was heavier than a brown ale, but lighter and less rich than a stout. It was rather delicious, but a tad filling. We did not order any food, but the menu offered a breadth of traditional Irish pub classics like Shepherd's Pie and Curry Fries. The service was friendly and plentiful in that there were multiple servers that would check in on us every few minutes, enabling us to enjoy our drinks and get our check in a timely manner. We're big fans of this pub. Food is great, staff is friendly and the space is welcoming. We've had brunch and late night drinks here, and given our good experience, we decided to throw a private party here. We worked with Jeremy to come up with a menu and figure out the open bar situation. The food was set up as a buffet -- and no surprise, guests loved the spread (shepherd pie, Irish breakfast, pasties and salad). Jeremy helped us with last minute decor and made sure we were comfortable throughout the event. Much thanks to the team for helping us throw a wonderful baby shower. We really like the fish & chips here! Consistently good, fresh, & nice portion. We appreciate being accommodated every time with our stroller or when we want to sit in the back from the bar crowd. Also if you have a small child, there is a changing table in the restroom which I'm noticing many restaurants around here don't seem to accommodate, thankfully they are very inclusive and also 3 gender neutral restrooms with one being disability accessible. The general manager is very kind and made our experiences nice each time. Candles on the tables are a nice touch even on the slow nights to keep our sports bar vibe experience above a dive bar feel- appreciate the elevation. Staff here is nice, even the food runners and busser seem friendly. Have tried the shepherds pie, fish & chips, wings, onion rings and steak. Food cost seems a bit high for the portions, but I haven't tried everything yet. So far, wings are good, for food cost to portion we got 5 wings for $13. However the wings were a bit larger. Flavor was good. Onion rings were very good. Thick steak house style & crisp. Shepherds pie was very tasty, just not as big as we wanted for a filling entree portion, but it tasted good. Steak came rare instead of med rare, not a big deal as at least it wasn't over cooked, just cooler than expected. Brandy peppercorn sauce was more like a plain dark gravy but tasty anyway, I just wouldn't describe it as brandy peppercorn. I noticed they carry Pat LaFrieda beef for burgers but they start at $13 for the sandwich, ($10 if you want it on toast, $13 if you want it on a bun?!) not including toppings which range from $1.50-$2 per, the fries are additional for $7. You're looking at a $20+++ burger and that's the only reason I didn't go for it when some of the entrees were less and included fries or a side. Fish & chips are the go-to here. I've had them at Hudson hound and a few other local places but this one is much better both for portions and quality. I really like it and will come back. Beer list is normal Irish bar style. Some imports, several domestics, nothing crazy fancy, not too crafty, but hit most of the general spectrum. No hefeweizens or interesting crafts beyond a standard IPA. With, it's an Irish bar. When in Dublin drink Guinness, right? They definitely expect you to! Cocktail list a little too pricey for what I expect at an Irish bar. I know they are on Newark Ave/Grove St but throw me a bone on the margarita plz- a marg is less at Oralé! If you had $8/9/10 dollar margs I'd certainly order a few. But It's fine, I stick with beer here and I'm good with that. Today our waiter charged us a dollar for a tiny half ramekin of bbq sauce when I asked if I could have it instead of ketchup with my fries and he said yes??! It's not about the dollar, it's the principle, Really. Manager please use this as a teachable moment in hospitality- the difference in placing an upcharge side order vs replacing a condiment, and, if it's policy standard, explain nicely at the table at ordering so diners aren't surprised questioning the hospitality later. Principle over price. I would like to add on a positive note that O'Malley's offers food past when others in the area close! Including late night on Sundays/Mondays when industry workers are out. Smart business move! This is what originally brought us in for football night games and will keep us coming back for the food and service. I'd love to see a couple of wing size options in the menu since you do promote sports, and maybe a few more appetizer options beyond vegetable dishes that appear to be more like sides and not so much an app. Maybe an appetizer sized mussels dish, 10 piece wing plate, nachos or an Irishy version, other small bites, burger sliders etc. even offer a few burger meal options outside of the BYO style.
