The environment seemed relaxed, a place where you can come and study or just hang out with friends and family. Ambience is great. The furniture and decor in the shop is beautiful. I ordered an iced americano and the chorizo breakfast burrito. The coffee was good, but the burrito tasted like it came out of a freezer package(1/10). Aside from the food and drinks, the gal working the register was extremely cold. The ambience is basic Madison millennial coffee shop, plants and wood and dim lights. The barista that was working at the time (Sunday morning) had bare minimum customer service skills. My drink order was correct, but I like going to coffee shops for the vibe, and this vibe was not for me. There are other coffee shops in the area where staff is trained to be friendly and pleasant, so I'd rather go to those, but if all you want is coffee and you're in the area, I see no reason not to go here. I ordered a Cold Brew w/ SFV and cream; my partner ordered an Iced SFV latte. Both coffees hit the spot on this warmer Sunday morning. For breakfast, I ordered the Avocado toast w a fried egg. I received two fried eggs (I'm not mad, it was just unexpected); the sourdough bread was fresh and cut rather large. (Again, not angry, just surprising) partner ordered the house-made French toast. This review will be strictly for my very small interaction with this business so take it with a grain of salt. I ordered a soy latte. To be honest, I thought the price for a small was ridiculous. I paid $4.70 for 8 oz. It wasn't that great either. It was missing that rich robust flavor that the espresso would usually bring out in a latte. I was sort of desperate for beans that day, since I work from home, so I make my own coffee usually. I picked a bag that was medium roast. This is just the Madison x Portlandia hooman that I've become speaking, but I was a bit disappointed to find that the roastery that roasted the beans was not local. It looked like there was an awesome spread of pastries though. But also, as much of a dog lover as I am, I question on behalf of non-dog lovers about having a furry dog and uncovered pastries around. read more

The seating area was quite full, but we were able to get seats on stools along the front windows (away from the main area). The part that could be improved is that the used cup area and trash can greeted us at the entrance door. The best acai bowl I've had in a long time. Came here in June and this place has a fantastic atmosphere both inside and out. I love all the plants and greenery they have inside, as well as the artwork/murals on the walls. It's very trendy. They also have great outdoor seating for warm months and are also pet friendly! We saw a lot of doggos today! My wife ordered an iced vanilla latte and it wasn't her favorite. She said she might have wanted more vanilla and less milk in the overall ratio. I loved my large peanut butter acai bowl. It was huge and well worth the price. Also pro tip, if you're going the acai bowl route, spend the extra couple bucks for a large (or whatever the biggest size is called) because it's about double the size of the smaller bowl at a fraction of the cost. read more

Good food but this is the second time ordering through the app didn't take the order and we had to wait past time.

I'll start this one with the downfalls then get into the good stuff. It's too tightly packed in here. It's impossible to walk around the cafe without having to scoot around people sitting at tables or on couches. I got up to get a water and had to lean over people eating to squeeze through. Secondly, my açaí bowl took a super long time (roughly 35 minutes) to come out. I had to go up and ask for it and it appeared it may have been in back sitting waiting to be brought out. I saw people who came in after me get their hot food before I got my order. Okay. The good stuff. The oat milk latte with hazelnut was delicious and came up fast, the chocolate muffin was scrumptious and had a unique flavor profile, and the açaí bowl was delightful. I'm glad the portions are huge because I'm having all of this for lunch, too. Suggestions: the super long table needs to be shorter and get rid of one set of the couches in the entrance area to scoot everything apart from each other so it's possible to move around. read more

The toast came out super dry and I don't think it's the way they make it (they followed the menu ingredients) but they definitely should change the menu ingredients for this one. It doesn't include syrup - it's top with cinnamon sugar. My butter was hard as a rock. It was hard to enjoy my brunch this afternoon. I highly suggest going to the Sun Prairie one or Cafe Hollander for French toast. I haven't tried their coffee yet so I wouldnt rule that out :) read more

I do get an aura of pretentious energy but at the same time I don't see what warrants that attitude with the people working and the other patrons there. This area is v cute and is lush with plants and decor and has a lot of spots to study at and or use to chat with friends. The Wi-Fi is a bit scattered and dips a lot. I recommend the matcha as it's surprisingly creamy and delicious, especially with oat milk. Also, their pastry selection will have your mouth watering and stressed from the sheer size! I mean LOOK at that Chocolate almond croissant! Gorgeous and just devilish. It is pretty pricey but not by too much compared to the Madison coffee scene. This cafe has so much going for it but the ambiance is incredibly lacking. It is cold in Madison and Grace makes you feel even colder. There are three sets of doors that blow in cold air, and the floors and surfaces are cold and hard. I definitely wouldn't recommend coming here in the winter if you, like me, are cold all the time. I get the feeling that they didn't invest much in this location. A bit more focus and concern for the ambiance might make it more appealing. I have only been here 20 min and want to leave. read more

This place is so beautiful! Very open space with lots of natural lighting, which gives it a very comforting and welcoming atmosphere. Grace did a an amazing job with their interior design - everything is well curated with hanging plants, wall art, an assortment of pastries on display on cutting boards, and huge menus taking up the wall. There are two Bernese Mountain dogs that roam the cafe who are incredibly well trained and lovable, which makes it a huge plus to come visit and pet the doggos. There is a decent amount of space to come here and do some work or just to meet up to grab drinks and coffee. I tried a hot chocolate which was beautiful and very rich! I wished it was steamed a bit hotter because it felt lukewarm after about 2 minutes, but the latte art on it was a nice addition. Prices are pretty steep, which is the main reason this place is 4/5 instead of 5/5 in my eyes. My 8 oz. hot chocolate was $3.50 prior to tax and the automatic tipping options start at 20% unless you want to custom type something in (at most places you would at LEAST get 12 oz. for this price). I also tried a fruit cheese pastry which was so buttery and flaky (highly recommend!!) and the avocado toast. The avocado toast was served on a thick, thick, THICK slice of sourdough bread topped with some greens, an egg, and the most delicious balsalmic glaze and sesame seeds with a salad on the side. The balsalmic glaze really did it for me and made it really stand out. The rest of the menu looked awesome and I would love to come back to try more at another time. Overall, a really great addition to the Madison coffee scene and I really hope this second Grace location is here to stay! read more

I tried it out the new Waunakee location yesterday and was not happy. When I walked in there was no on one in sight to take my order. The guy who finally showed up was uppity and not helpful. ALL of the items on the menu are way overpriced, and they expect a tip on top of that! To add insult to monetary injury, the person who ordered after me (the same item) was served before me! Inexcusable! Probably because of no tip... Stick with the family owned place in town (MNM's) that has been giving us friendly, affordable service for a long time. They have earned our loyalty. I love the aesthetic, I love the dogs and I love the overall concept of Grace. The pastries are my favorite but everything just feels really overpriced- the drinks, the pastries, the brunch items, you name it. Street parking is annoying, but it's not terrible. I'm super disappointed in the potatoes that came with my breakfast sandwich. They're basically boiled potatoes with some seasoning on them - yuck. Also the menu says 9.95 but I was charged 10.95. Not sure I understand the Grace Coffee hype. I wanted to give it a try this morning. It was welcomely not too busy. I ordered a mocha and a breakfast sandwich. The mocha was decent, good flavor and mix of espresso/chocolate. Breakfast sandwich was a good portion, but not super flavorful. Greens on the side were pretty wilted and overly dressed. I did not finish either of the food items. No one called out my food as it was put with the other items for to-go orders. That may be the normal operations, but I was sitting waiting for my food for several extra minutes. Total cost for breakfast was nearly $20 with tip. I may return to try a pastry but will head elsewhere for my breakfast sandwich and greens needs. (It is cute inside!) read more

Grace Coffee is not a dog-friendly business, and it's not a customer-friendly business, either. A company's social media presence is a direct extension of its customer service; a bad customer experience within social media is no different than a bad customer experience within the physical business location itself. This is my review about Grace choosing to ignore me as a customer when I tried seeking an answer to a simple question ... even after I told Grace that knowing an answer would turn me into a repeat customer. I visited Grace once in May 2021, and afterward, I saw dog drive-thru photos on Grace's Facebook page. I was excited to see this! I was ready to throw my money at Grace with repeat business if I knew which location to visit with my dog at the drive-thru. Thus, my simple question to Grace: which location takes pictures of dogs at the drive-thru? Because these photos are on Facebook, I felt it logical to ask my question on Facebook. I attempted to seek an answer by commenting on Grace's dog posts as well as privately messaging Grace. While Facebook shows that all private messages have been viewed by Grace's account, I received no response to any of those messages nor my posts. After my Facebook communication went unanswered, I emailed Grace at its publicly posted email addresses: gracecoffeeco1@gmail.com and levi@gracecoffeewi.com. I explained my dissatisfaction with poor communication and even ended my email with the statement: "I am hoping this email can generate some response from you as I would like to support your business again in the future." I received no response. I've attempted to contact Grace multiple times over a three-week span with no acknowledgement or response. Unfortunately, I feel so discouraged that I cannot be a return customer. There are so many coffee shops, cafes and restaurants in the Madison area that welcome customers with open arms and are enthusiastic and eager to answer customers' questions. Grace is not one of them. Save your time, energy and money and go elsewhere where you (and your dog) are truly appreciated. read more

This was my first time at Grace Coffee. I really enjoyed the ambiance. We ordered the peanut butter açaí bowl and the avocado toast with eggs. I also ordered a cold brew. The açaí bowl was okay; there were small chunks of ice in it. It doesn't really compare to an açaí bowl made at a juice bar or other specialty shop. The avocado toast was good. It comes on a thick slice of sourdough bread and is topped with a balsamic glaze. I would definitely recommend adding an egg. I also enjoyed my cold brew. I wish I would have tried a pastry because they looked amazing. Service was quick but not overly friendly. Grace Coffee is counter service so tables are available on a first-come first-serve basis. I wouldn't recommend Grace Coffee for large groups because there is only one table that sits 6+ people and the majority of tables are two tops. read more

Grace is the place! I stopped into this café to make a short pitstop on my way to work. While I loved Stone Creek coffee that was the previous tenant of the space, Grace coffee really hits the mark. One shocking improvement, is that this place yes, on top of serving delicious coffee and French pastries, also serves food and booze. I had a delicious serving of avocado toast with a huge M&M cookie on the side, along side my forest berry lemonade. The vibe is good, there is plenty of space and light, and the service was great. Terrible experience. FLIES, RUDENESS, PLASTIC CLAMSHELL NIGHTMARE. First, I tried to look up the menu online, but they only list their cocktails. When we got there, I saw a large menu, but nothing was marked with V or DF etc, so it made it difficult to navigate the options. The girl taking the order was rather curt, and didn't offer suggestions when it was clear that we were new and one of us had dietary restrictions. We had heard a lot about their cold-brew, but they don't have any decaf cold brew. The girl said they could make an Americano with decaf espresso so we ordered that. I decided to relent on my diet and ordered the Everything Croissant. I also got a decaf mocha, and chocolate croissant for dessert. But... The whole time we were in there, FLIES were everywhere and landed on us frequently. I looked at all the pastries displayed open-air, and worried about it. When my husband's Americano came, it was completely watered down to the point of it having no flavor at all. Also, it took quite a while for our order to be made. When it finally arrived, the server THREW it down on the table at me, never even said anything like 'here you are, please enjoy', and then stormed off. And what she threw down was a PLASTIC CLAMSHELL to-go container with my brunch items completely steaming up inside turning my croissant soggy. No napkins, no plate, no flatware. Just a not-so-subtle gtfo dismissal of us. Super rude. My husband said that he was observing the bartender making the cocktail drinks that they offer. The bartender was using pre-bottled single-serve orange juice. More waste. My mocha also came in a plastic cup. The cocktail drinks came in glasses, so why couldn't they use glasses for coffee drinks? It's not like they aren't set up for washing drink-ware. So, in summary, I highly recommend this place if you enjoy plastic, being treated like crap from the employees and being crapped on by flies. read more

One of most beautiful coffee shops in the area with floor to ceiling windows for so much natural light and lots of awesome art work on the walls to admire. But it does get hot when sitting next to the windows which can be unpleasant when trying to do work. The plush green velvet couch is not only instagram worthy but comfy too! I got a matcha latte and was a nice bitter, pure matcha flavor, but on the pricey side for sure. Can't wait to stop when I'm on the east side of town again! You can order before hand online or phone.
