Overpriced and underwhelming We are a family of four and we stopped to get an egg sandwich, biscuits and gravy and french toast and two pastries on Sunday morning, with tea and tiny hot chocolate. The amount totaled $73 and we got our meal in to-go boxes even though we were eating in. The entrees we're just ok - we were not wowed by the sandwich or biscuits, but the French toast was good. I tried Grace Coffee for the first time on Sunday, and got a hot vanilla latte. It was about $6 out the door, which seems to be priced appropriately. The latte was perfectly sweet, and milk was at the perfect temperature. Service: Though service was pretty speedy, I didn't get the most welcoming vibes from the staff. Granted, it was pretty busy that day, so hopefully on a weekday / non-peak time, they might be friendlier? Ambiance: I expected to come into Grace Coffee to sit down and get some work done, but the environment is definitely more upbeat and a gathering spot than a working spot. Grace Coffee is not a dog-friendly business, and it's not a customer-friendly business, either. A company's social media presence is a direct extension of its customer service; a bad customer experience within social media is no different than a bad customer experience within the physical business location itself. This is my review about Grace choosing to ignore me as a customer when I tried seeking an answer to a simple question ... even after I told Grace that knowing an answer would turn me into a repeat customer. I visited Grace once in May 2021, and afterward, I saw dog drive-thru photos on Grace's Facebook page. I was excited to see this! I was ready to throw my money at Grace with repeat business if I knew which location to visit with my dog at the drive-thru. Thus, my simple question to Grace: which location takes pictures of dogs at the drive-thru? Because these photos are on Facebook, I felt it logical to ask my question on Facebook. I attempted to seek an answer by commenting on Grace's dog posts as well as privately messaging Grace. While Facebook shows that all private messages have been viewed by Grace's account, I received no response to any of those messages nor my posts. After my Facebook communication went unanswered, I emailed Grace at its publicly posted email addresses: gracecoffeeco1@gmail.com and levi@gracecoffeewi.com. I explained my dissatisfaction with poor communication and even ended my email with the statement: "I am hoping this email can generate some response from you as I would like to support your business again in the future." I received no response. I've attempted to contact Grace multiple times over a three-week span with no acknowledgement or response. Unfortunately, I feel so discouraged that I cannot be a return customer. There are so many coffee shops, cafes and restaurants in the Madison area that welcome customers with open arms and are enthusiastic and eager to answer customers' questions. Grace is not one of them. Save your time, energy and money and go elsewhere where you (and your dog) are truly appreciated. read more

Modern coffee shop with open concept layout and lots of natural lighting. Happy to see they have soy as an alternative to milk which surprisingly is no longer an option in some coffee shops. The bakery items - WOW! Wanted to buy one of everything but ended up going with the everything croissant which a friend highly recommended to me and the raspberry danish. Love all the Grace locations and very excited this is close to my work. The space is just as beautiful as their other locations. It feels a bit bigger and open. I stopped by on the second day open and, yes, it was busier. And I agree with the previous review that more people could have been wearing masks when not eating/drinking. I'm guessing it will slow down eventually; parking was also a little tricky but not awful. Staff was very friendly and their pastries and drinks are delicious as always. Our favorites are the fruit danishes, jalepeno popper croissants, almond croissants, and chocolate croissants. I've also had their macaroons which are outstanding; my favorite is the maple pecan. Their weekend care packages are convenient and tasty, especially when they have cronuts available. I also ordered a pie for Thanksgiving, their prices are extremely reasonable and I imagine it will be delicious given everything else is awesome. Definitely give any of their locations a try and I'd recommend doing take out for Covid precautions; you can also pre-order online and they have an app that's easy to use and you can get rewards too. read more

The atmosphere is the best part about this place, nothing else to really write home about. I visited mid morning on a Sunday and thankfully I was taking my order to go, because there was nowhere to sit it was so busy! I got an iced vanilla latte and one of the espresso chip scones. The latte was honestly very disappointing. Seemed like decent espresso but I think they forgot to add the vanilla. The scone was also just ok... This review reflects my 2nd Grace experience which was night and day from the excellent experience I had during my first visit. 1st experience: Busy line but moved very quickly. Everything was fantastic including the bloody mary that tasted great and had an toothpick with olive, pickle and cheese on the lip of the glass... great ambiance sitting outside with the wife and kids and eating our brunch / snack. 2nd experience and the reason for 2 stars. Fast moving line - super polite and great service but everything from the food to the drinks were awful. Ice latte was super watered down, bloody mary tasted like tomato mix and a single pickle floating on top of the drink!, italian sandwich was greasy and both super salty and bitter due to the cheese and arugula, m&m cookie was a bit under baked. Super shocked as we went here 1 week apart - I see from the other reviews that service generally is pretty good but the food and drink can WILDLY vary. Ambiance was great, although that was all ruined with limited special drinks and very rude man at the register. A simple hello or even a sense of appreciation would have been fine. I'm a frequent customer of Grace Coffee at many of their locations. Their coffee is good, and the food that I've tried up until today has been very good! The work atmosphere is also great, lively but not distracting music, free wifi, plenty of places to plug in a laptop... I really enjoy doing homework here. Today I tried an acai bowl and I must say this is the first time I've been disappointed with the food here. When the bowl came out it was drowned in some white frosting stuff that was not listed on the menu or pictured on the website in the photos they have of the food. When I tried the actual acai base, it was solid and tasted completely freezer-burned, like it had been sitting in a freezer for weeks without being sealed properly. I had to throw away a near $10 bowl :( However... I ordered an avocado toast next and was not disappointed. One of my faves! Ultimately I love this place and for the most part really enjoy the food and drink. I will definitely remain a customer... probably just wont order an acai bowl again, haha. read more

I want to support the local businesses. When I called to place an order, I was told to download the app. Personally, I struggle with customer service that makes it more convenient for the business than the customer but, we're in a pandemic, so, ok. When I ordered online, it took 26 minutes for the app to tell me my beverage was ready. In the meantime, I walked through twice to check my order. It seems in-person orders go to the front of the line. If they're going by maximum/standing room capacity, then it *might* have been at 25%, it was pretty full. Many people were without masks, even while reading. Two you guys were reading their Bibles, (a great book to be reading these days!). First, the space is beautiful! I've had good luck with most of the drinks at Grace (hot chocolate, coffee, lattes) but beware that sizes are small. 8oz, 12oz, and 16oz. Lines can be long on weekends. Food is pricey and generally pretty good, but a few areas I'd improve. Croissants on my most recent visit were doughy and not cooked enough. Serving some of the treats in bags doesn't make sense since a plate and fork are required. Would love to see more reusable serving options rather than the takeout containers. Last item is that there is no outdoor garbage can, but lots of outdoor dining space. For folks wanting to limit indoor time due to covid, and outdoor garbage can would be nice. (Although this could be somewhat mitigated if there were more reusable serving options with plates, mugs, etc) read more

Much worse than expected. The coffee, a latte, was terribly bitter and borderline undrinkable. The danish i tried had a rubbery pastry and filling without any flavor. I also tried the almond/chocolate croissant, which was worse than the danish. Average. The main reason why my review is so low is because of this aggressive, rude barista. We stated that we had a peanut allergy, and she completely disregarded what we were saying and was very mean about it. She was acting like we were idiots for even asking about a peanut allergy?? It's totally normally that a restaurant can't make guarantees, but we just wanted them to make a note to make sure they wouldn't use the peanut butter knife on our French toast. This is pretty standard at all restaurants and the cashier helping us was trying his best to answer our questions, but this manager lady was being an a**hole "we have nuts all over the place". Peanuts are NOT the same as "nuts".... Anyone else deal with this intolerant pretentious lady before? Yikes! Crabby female taking orders behind the counter (yesterday, Sunday 2/27). My goodness, she was not nice. She answered every question snippily (if that is a word), and her answer to everything was "it is at the end of the counter". So, just for the record, I am not stupid, but my confusion was that the food "at the end of the counter" (actually different counter than the other two questions--it is on the other side of the wall), had a different name on it. Not mine. So my confusion about my food wasn't because I am stupid, it was because it had the name "Amanda" on it, which isn't my name. Anyway, almond croissants were delicious, breakfast sandwich was fine, but matcha tea latte was way too sweet. I hope the employees are generally nicer than this woman. While this is a cute shop, the order execution on a busy morning is very confused and poor. Management could learn a thing or two from Starbucks. Waiting 12-15 minutes for our coffee and then to learn our order got lost is somewhat sad. Given the technology they are using this should not be the case. As decent as the coffee here is, Grace sure makes it hard to want to support their business. First off, this place is an oasis for people who clearly cannot be bothered by the pandemic. This place was pretty packed and the only people who were wearing masks were the staff. There was zero mask enforcement. People were not actively eating or drinking - in fact, several were sitting at tables working on their laptops or on their phones without having any drinks - and were hanging out without masks circa 2019. I felt very uncomfortable being there, even though I was wearing one. Second, as others have mentioned, baristas do not care about the customer. I say that because their behavior and rudeness is very unprofessional. I literally had to wait as they were taking photos of my latte they made before they finally handed it to me... Third, they do not have straws. Yes, I'd understand if it's to be environmentally conscious. But I don't get the sense that's their reason. Why? Because everything they use here is plastic and there are no trash cans/bins for recycling. I've been to plenty of other businesses where they are trying to be more sustainable, so they either have paper straws or have straws available only behind the counter (you can get one only if you ask for it). It feels like Grace is just being cheap and trying to nickle and dime customers by having ZERO available. If I'm paying almost $6 for an iced latte, I don't think it's too much to ask to get a straw. Again, when asking for one, the barista looked at me like I'M the ridiculous one for expecting a coffee shop to have straws. Fourth, their baked goods are flat out just sitting on the counter in the open near where people order. There's no encasing. I saw a woman talking loudly and laughing right over the croissants, and I could just see the spit and droplets spewing out of her mouth and likely landing on the baked goods. This seems to be a health hazard, especially in a pandemic. This place had so much promise but other than slightly better decor, might as well just be Helbach's again. It's clear they're not taking the pandemic seriously with zero mask enforcement, and worse, they don't take their customers seriously. read more
