Wedged between Emma's Cookie Kitchen and Timmy's barbecue stand - and all the wafting greasiness…read morethat each Junk Food Alley vendor radiated - Mayor Tom Henry was pried away from his lemon shake-up Friday morning to commence the 43rd annual Fort Wayne Newspapers Three Rivers Festival. Snipping the red kickoff ribbon alongside festival workers and Executive Director Jack Hammer, Henry praised the yearly celebration as a transformative city staple. He recalled the festival's first run in 1969, when it was stationed along Columbia Street and mostly intended for business promotion. "Look what it has evolved to over the past 40 years - 500,000 people come into Fort Wayne every year and see what it has to offer," Henry said. He touted the nine-day event as helping "citizens rediscover Fort Wayne" who may take for granted the city's attractions. Now, the festival represents the intersection of proud heritage and forward-thinking development, Hammer added. He said selecting his most anticipated event is like choosing "which daughter I love more." Hammer eventually admitted RiverGames and International Village - two former offerings returning after brief hiatuses - will aid in breathing a "new life and new birth" into the usual lineup. For Henry, the lingering question had a more decisive response: He cited the Bed Race and the inventive methods teams employ to meet contest requirements as a personal delight. Of course, the mayor, who had to trade a fresh lemon shake-up and clamshell container of homemade sweets for the ribbon-cutting shears, also favors another festival essential. "We're standing at it - the nutritious food alley," Henry said. "This is always the fun place to be.

Whip & Chill is Fort Wayne's first fire truck food truck! We saw it parked at the downtown…read moreBuskerFest and had to visit. It's a real fire truck, with all of the hoses and firefighting gadgets right there on the truck. This ice cream fire truck offers dipped ice cream cones, floats, sundaes and Tropical Sno shaved ice. They have lots of shaved ice syrup flavors -- so many that it was hard to choose. In the end, we got a blue raspberry shaved ice and a scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough in a cone. Both of my children were satisfied with their choices! The prices were OK: $4 for a single scoop in a cake cone and $5 for a single scoop in a cup or waffle cone. A small shaved ice is $4. Because this is a food truck, they kind of bop around the city and show up in different places. It's probably best to follow them on social media to find out where they'll be next.

We're always excited to try different BBQ spots because great barbecue has a way of bringing people together. There's just something about the smoky flavors, slow-cooked meats, and classic sides that makes it such a comforting and satisfying meal, especially during the summer months. Bo Doogie's BBQ definitely has that classic barbecue feel. The smell of BBQ alone gets your appetite going the moment you arrive. When the food came out, it had that rich, smoky aroma that you hope for when you're visiting a BBQ place. BBQ is one of those foods that's simple but when it's done well, it's absolutely delicious. It's a meal our whole family enjoys, and it's always fun finding new places that serve up good barbecue. Overall, if you're someone who enjoys classic barbecue flavors and a laid-back place to enjoy a meal with family, Bo Doogie's BBQ is worth stopping by to give it a try.

They typically have a line, which speaks to how great the food is! You are always greeted with a smile and they are able to get you your food in a jiffy. A few of my favorites from the menu include the catfish po'boy and the jambalaya. The food is always fresh and has great flavor. Not to mention they give you great portions and you won't be hungry after. Looking for a great food truck? Ragin Cajun is it!

There is no seating. Again, it's a teenie carryout with a drive-up window (not an actual drive-thru). I met the proprietor and his grandson. Both gentlemen were kind and friendly. I explained that I lived in another state and inquired about the menu. I learned that only a limited menu was available, and was offered to try both the turkey tips and the pork rib tips. They were good, but neither were smoked. I like smoked meats on the grill, and these seemed to be marinated in Italian dressing and baked. The meat didn't have a char taste. I decided on the pork with greens and potato salad. Again these items weren't as I am familiar with, as they didn't taste homemade with a depth of flavor. The meal was served with white bread.
