Types of tamales (not my photo)

Being from Mexico City, my family and I can be picky about tamales, but these tamales are truly delicious! We'd say they're the best you can get in San Diego. They have a large variety. We buy ours at the Little Italy market on the weekends. Highly recommend.

I crave these tamales all the time. I discovered them ever since I started going to Hillcrest farmers market and it's such a treat!! You get get one that's been cooked and ready to eat or you can buy a pack of three to cook at home. All you have to do is steam it. They have meat, vegetation, vegan and even sweet options and all of them are fabulous. The complimentary salsas are also fresh. The tamales are huge too, not like the small sad ones you see in grocery stores. Nice and fluffy but dense with lots of filling...you just can't go wrong with them. They seem to be at a lot of SD farmers markets so definitely give them a visit when you're at one of them.

We see them at the Little Italy Farmer's Market all the time. It was the Art Walk last weekend so all the regular market vendors were moved to a different street. We finally tried them out as they were located next to our favorite crepe place (Crepes Jourdan). Friend got the strawberry refresher drink that's served in a cool barrel kinda thing. The guy ladles out the liquid and puts it into a cup. It was $5 for a nice size drink. Drink was nicely cold and not watered down. Not too sweet either.

The inside tamale filling was tasty. But the outside was very dry. On a scale of 1-10, I give it a 5.

I loved the bean and cheese burrito, the asada tacos were greasy and I would avoid them. Fish tacos were good. They do charge extra for the sauces and I found most weirdly sweet. The Habanero one was good. Now for the best part: the drinks here rock! Note that they make extra strong drinks and I was happy after just one spicy margarita. Service is friendly and they do have a dog friendly patio. I will definitely be back when I'm visiting Oceanside next time.

The atmosphere is such a cool, unique blend of old-school hip-hop culture and colorful abstract art. The absolute best part? You actually order your food straight out of a repurposed old-school bus parked right next to the main bar setup. Our server was awesome--super welcoming and incredibly helpful in guiding us through the menu choices. Here is what loaded up our table: OG Taco & Yard Bird Taco: Packed with flavor, tender meats, and signature sauces. (The meat did surprise us though because it comes out a little sweet) Flounder Pounder & Skrimps Carnal Tacos: Fresh, seasoned seafood options with fantastic crunch and zip. Kids OG Taco: A total hit with our son, who declared it delicious. Chips & Salsa: We had a slightly mixed experience here--a few chips felt like they were either a bit stale or just needed an extra minute in the fryer, but the salsa flavor itself was spot-on. Capacity Brewing Non-Alcoholic IPA: Crisp and refreshing beverage to wash down all that spice while keeping things family-friendly. Overall, it's a rad, laid-back spot with big flavor and a fun environment that kids and parents alike will enjoy. B.U.M.S. Pro-Tips: Beat the Peak Hour: Seating near the bus started filling up while we ate. Arrive slightly ahead of the lunch or dinner rush to grab a prime spot near the art walls. Mix & Match Tacos: Don't stick to just one style--pairing a seafood option like the Flounder Pounder with a classic meat taco gives you the best of both worlds. What's your ultimate go-to taco when trying a new spot--classic meat, fresh fish, or loaded shrimp? Drop your favorite in the comments below!

It's a true family-style operation--one owner personally takes your order while the other is in the kitchen cooking everything fresh, and you can taste that attention to detail in every bite. The food is outstanding--full of flavor, generous portions, and very reasonably priced. It's the kind of place where you know you're getting authentic, homemade quality, not something rushed or generic. On top of that, the service is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant itself is clean and well-kept. It's rare to find a spot that checks all the boxes like this. Since then we've been visiting other burrito places, but decided to give them another shot. We were pleasantly surprised to see things were "back to normal". Burritos were big again and the salsa bar was back. Chips were no longer free (I remember they used to be a long time ago), but no biggie. We were just picked up to-go. The burritos were good. Not great, necessarily, but good and the prices are some of the best around. They have a ton of options, and lots of drinks, including beer. We were just picking up, and it was a very hot day. The restaurant didn't have any air-conditioning so it was quite warm inside. Most people were eating outside. We'll be back again to try some other menu items given that their prices are generally pretty good.

This is by far one of my favorite places for Mexican food in SoCal. As a Cali Native now living in…read morethe great state of Texas, sometimes it's refreshing to step outside the land of Tex‑Mex and get the real deal again. Colima's hits that spot every single time. When you walk in, the person behind the counter greets you immediately -- and not the dry "hi, what can I get you?" type of greeting. You get a full "¡Buenos días, mija!" with that warm, almost‑grito energy that makes you feel like you just walked into your tío's spot instead of a restaurant. Super friendly, super natural, and very SoCal. I ordered the rolled tacos plate and wow... esa porción estaba gigante. I couldn't finish it. What I loved most was the meat; this is what meat is supposed to taste like. The beef was seasoned the way we grew up eating it: a little salty, a little savory, with that slow‑cooked tenderness that lets you know it didn't come from some pre‑bagged, mystery‑meat situation. You get hints of garlic, a little cumin, and that warm, almost toasty flavor that comes from meat that's actually been browned, not steamed. It tasted like someone's abuela was in the back saying, "No, no, déjalo dorar un poquito más. And the corn tortillas? Perfect. Thin enough to get that crisp roll, thick enough not to shatter. None of that flour‑tortilla‑trying‑to‑be‑crispy nonsense. These were crunchy, flavorful, and loaded. The toppings were just as good. The guacamole tasted fresh. You could taste the real avocado which was creamy, a little chunky, with lime that actually tasted like lime and not concentrate. The red salsa had a legit kick to it. It had hints of roasted chiles, was smoky and had a slightly bitter edge that tells you they actually roasted them instead of just tossing raw peppers into a blender. It wasn't tourist spicy; it was SoCal Mexican‑restaurant spicy, which is a whole different category. My partner ordered a breakfast burrito and honestly? That thing could've fed three people. It was massive, stuffed to the brim with cheese, egg, potatoes, and fresh bacon and exactly what a SoCal breakfast burrito should be: simple, hearty, and no shortcuts. Between the portions, the flavor, and the service that feels like home, this spot stays on my list every time I'm in Oceanside. If you're craving real Mexican food and not Tex‑Mex, pull up. You'll leave full and happy. #supportlocal
