Wow... this place is a hidden gem. The food was amazing and the same price as a fast food Mexican spot. We spent $34 for 2 plates and it was well worth it. Once you get your plate they ask you if you want anything extra on your food... guac , lettuce, fresh cheese- they have it all. I've been here twice now and so far....DELICIOUS! I've been on the search for a new place to get a hard shell taco combo and this place has it and then some. The food and way of cooking it seems to be the most authentic out of all that I've ever eaten at (Mexican/Cali Mexican food); just about everything is made on the spot and you can see them cooking it. The rice and beans are flavorful, salsas are flavorful... it seems too good to be true, but this place is pretty perfect when it comes to flavor! What's also great, is it's a carnicería (butcher shop) mercado and restaurant/to-go counter all in one! Service is great, but if you're in a hurry, it's not the place to go because like I said everything is cooked on the spot. The space is very chill and clean. La Perla Tapatia catered my husband's birthday party and did so brilliantly. We were a last minute client and, thus, were a bit frazzled. Jason from La Tapatia handled it all calmly and competently. The way he set up the food was beautiful and he thought of everything. He made it easy to have a great event. The food was delicious. The ingredients were fresh and the chef obviously is superb. Many guests raved about the guacamole, tortillas, birria, peppers, agua fresca, flan (oh my, the flan!), you name it. One guest even said, "this is the best romaine lettuce I've ever had." There is a small section of carnicería, (meat market) some fresh produce, tortillería and bakery. The place is nice and clean. Employees are welcoming and friendly. The service is good, I arrived after 11:00 am on a Saturday it was starting to get hectic. We ordered the carne asada large tacos. The taco beef is a generous portion with all the condiments as you like, pico de gallo, onions, cilantro, guacamole and fresh salsa. Or order a plain taco with the meat and go to the salsa bar add condiments at your choice. The meat is well seasoned and the tacos are double tortilla. Lastly, purchased bolillos, flour tortillas and fresh guacamole. This place sells agua frescas, sodas and beer. You can eat indoors or outdoors plenty of space to eat. Used to go to La Perla Tapatia all the time but caught myself coming less and less. The food quality has gone down tremendously...The cakes you have to buy in person...Ordered a cake for delivery once and it was moldy and I had to request my money back through ubereats. About a year later I come back for a sausage breakfast burrito and they put some random sliced sausage in my burrito instead of breakfast sausage. I couldn't even finish it...The food is very inconsistent now but the prices are consistently going up. If this was my first time going I would've given it a two star rating...But really hoping the food quality returns to how it used to be. You're pretty much putiing in a "high stakes" gamble everytime you order now. read more

This place used to be super good. The food was always on point and the service wasn't too bad. Unfortunately something must of happened because I haven't been in a while, and honestly after tonight probably won't be back. The food was old tasting, and barely worth eating. I got two carne asada burritos, and four rolled tacos. The burritos were barely edible, and absurdly large. The rolled tacos were stale and after two bites just thrown away. All this for the whopping price of $54 of money basically just lit on fire. Having gone here for years minimally once a week I will not be back nor can I recommend this place. First time here, my mom and I heard about it on the radio so we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately I wasn't too impressed. It seemed a bit disorganized and kind of stressful (while ordering and getting food). I'm like- girl, don't promote if you don't want to gladly give the promo to your customers. Mind you - my family and I got a few plates of food. Same lady gave my mom a weird look when she asked for a to-go box. Not sure why they're like this but customer service is a big thing - if I don't feel welcome I'm not coming back. I am a foodie & have flown around the Western half of the USA to sample the local cuisine of the area. Additionally, I have gone to SFO international airport just for Filipino & Vietnamese food. So, I give you my word that La Perla, to date, is the best Mexican I've had in the past 36 years. When you walk in you just know, immediately, that you're getting authentic down to the tortilla food. The bakery items are beautifully tremendous & can be accompanied with fresh coffee or traditional Mexican drinks. I ordered a carnè asada street taco [$2.89] & a cheese and jalapeno tamale [$2.89]. My taco had cilantro, guacamole sauce, onions on 2 small tortillas made from scratch. Everything fresh & moist. Never have I been this impressed with such flavoral food. Wow!! So delicious. My wife got the rolled taco plate and my son, (did I mention he recommended this place) chose the California burrito. Carne Asada w/ Shrimp plate: Very flavorful meat, juicy and void of any gristle-- which is a good thing. Also, meat was surprisingly tender. Shrimp was just ok, lacked flavor and I prefer a "grill crust" on my seafood. Does that make sense? Oh well ... Rice and beans were exceptional as well. California burrito: Freakin HUUUGE!!! My son's "go to" choice. He did finish all of the burrito minus one bite, which I took for comment. My comment . . . meh, imo -- it lacked flavor. However, my carne asada was "flavor town" USA, sooo . . . Rolled taco plate: My wife's "go to" choice for her "first timer"order. Came here for a late night (~9PM) bite. We ended up getting three large tacos (for about $3.50 each) and a burrito ($14). The tacos were great and they were truly very large. The burrito was also massive. Both were great, but definitely on the spicier side. It is set up like a grab and go situation and the people here were super friendly. They let us try this hot chocolate drink with masa in it that was not my favorite, but appreciate that they let us try it. I don't think there was anything wrong with it, just not for me (hence the sample). Overall, pretty friendly and great food. Would stop in again! read more

It was recommended we come here to try the California burrito and it was a popular place. Line was maybe 10 people at 11:30am but moved fast. They have a mini grocery store, lots of fresh breads, meat department and counter to order breakfast, lunch or dinner. We tried the California burrito with carnitas and it was MASSIVE! Can easily split a burrito or if enjoy it all you probably will be stuffed for lunch and dinner. The offered a free slice of cake when you checkin with Yelp.
