Absolute filth. I was taking a walk around the mall when I came across the back of the restaurant. The screen door was wide open. There was uncovered food on the floor. The grease disposal dumpster was overflowing with grease. The food servers weren't wearing gloves or mask. The floors were unswept. Just a filthy mess. God only knows what vermin come in for a visit after closing time.Eat at your own risk!!! read more

My initial thought when seeing the menu for the first time is that any restaurant trying to serve so many different types of foods could not possibly do any of them well. Our first (and last) visit proved my theory correct. I find it somewhat offensive that they use the word "Gourmet" in their name. There is nothing gourmet about this place. If you think that this place is "Gourmet", then you likely think 1.5 liter bottles of Gallo Rose Wine are what wine connoisseurs prefer to drink. We never go to a new restaurant for the first two weeks they are open because we want to give them a fair chance to get things organized. In this case, we waited three weeks. To be fare and to give the reader our background, there is no Chinese restaurant in Wareham that we are willing to go to. If you spent your entire life on the South Coast (and never ate Chinese food in a major metropolitan area, you may not know what good Chinese food should taste like. On the menu, you can find: Sushi and related items, Mandarin and Sichuan and Cantonese Chinese dishes, Pad Thai, and last but not least Hibachi Tables. When we test a new restaurant, we order common things that we have had hundreds of times a uncountable restaurants. Here is what we ordered: Fried Peking Ravioli Hot and Sour Soup Moo Shi Pork General Gao Chicken (Marked as "must try" on the menu) White rice With two exceptions, everything we ate rated between 4 and 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. These things were neither good nor bad, but certainly not worth having again. The first exception was the Hoisin Sauce that came with the Moo Shi. It tasted nothing like real Hoisin Sauce nor did it taste good. I give it a 2 on the 1-10 scale because it did not make me gag. The second poor item was the white rice. I never recall ever having to review white rice before because it is mostly the same everywhere and I don't expect to ever think about it. The white rice here had neither the taste or consistency that I expect at a Chinese restaurant. It didn't taste bad, just not what I wanted or expected. The only good note was the service. I would give it 4*s. Three different people asked how our food was. Since I had no specific complaints and nothing was horrible, I just said it was fine. The place has a generally pleasing atmosphere although I'm not fond of the Japanese music playing in the background and loudly in the Men's Room. The Hibachi Tables are divided off from the rest of the dining area. The two TVs over the bar seemed appropriate, but the one in the main dining area and the one behind the guy making Sushi looked highly out of place. As a final bit of context for the reader. I have eaten at many good Chinese restaurants in Massachusetts, but none within 15 miles of Wareham. read more

Yuck. We ordered take out and it was like no Chinese I've ever tasted before. No flavor, weird sauces for pretty standard items - (the hoisin was particularly gross and was incredibly salty for a plum sauce) Greasy spring rolls, over cooked boneless spareribs you couldn't get your teeth through and if there was any crab in the crab Rangoon, I missed it completely. I'll keep driving to Sandwich for my Chinese I guess. read more

This place is a joke they took several New Year's Eve orders and you couldn't get inside to pick them up. Foods not great it's just the only Chinese place that answered the phone today. Don't take orders you can't make. Won't bother with this place again. read more

I don't like to throw restaurants under the bus like this, but our experience at Gourmet Garden was extremely disappointing. We got excited for the $1 oysters and ordered those right away, along with a couple of Mai Tai's (a Must Try according to the menu). We got our drinks and waited. At one point I did say to Abner "How long does it take to get oysters?" Abner told me to pipe down, because a server was right behind me and could hear me. He reminded me how shucking is not an easy thing to do. (Hmm...I didn't buy it). Anyway, out came our entrees and no oysters. Evidently, the server did not hear me after all and I should have piped up! Maybe I'm spoiled by the Chinese food in our neighborhood, but the egg foo young at Gourmet Garden comes with nothing else. No rice. Abner ordered the #94 Crystal Scallop. He said it was tasty. I took a nibble of the scallop and did not like it at all. I turned to Abner and said "Let's pack the rest of this up and get out of here." We paid the bill and ordered take out fried rice and a couple of egg rolls from our usual Chinese restaurant on the way home. To be fair, the egg foo young was good and Abner liked his food too. Maybe we are just too used to having combination plates. It's very a la carte (and pricey too). That's fine, as long as you both want to eat the same things, which Abner and I don't, which is why I think combination plates work for us at Chinese restaurants. Maybe the sushi is the thing to get here. According to Abner after we got home "stick to the Chinese you know." So, that's what we will do. The dining room seemed clean. The bathroom had a toilet brush and cleaners visible to customers using the women's restroom. Please, put that away. Also, the music was way too loud. I could barely hear Abner telling me to shut up about the missing oysters. read more

First of all idk what makes this place gourmet I mean it's nicer looking than your typical Chinese restaurant but other than that I have no clue. I decided to try them out and kinda regretted it. Should have just went to Qdoba right near it. Anyways, I ordered for take out and arrived 5 min before the time they told me and my food was already sitting there. When I ate it a few min later the ribs were clearly over cooked like chewing jerky the chicken fingers were soggy like they were steamed no crunch or real flavor to it and honestly if you closed your eyes and took a bite of the right you wouldn't think you were eating Chinese rice again lack of flavor with an odd crunch to it which makes me wonder if they had left over rice from day before and that's what was given to me. Idk.. the chicken wings should have been cooked a little longer as well. Overall not the worst Chinese food I've ever had but I'm hesitant to give it a second chance. Like I said it's a nice looking place , the worker was very nice and I didn't have to wait for the food when I got there so that's why I have them more than a 1 star read more

We ordered food for delivery, it wasn't a small order. After an hour and a half wait, I called and they checked with the driver and she said she delivered it to my house a long time ago. I was never informed and it was a rainy night. She left it outside and it got soaked. She never knocked on the door or rang the bell, just left it there outside. I left a 20% tip with my credit card order which I wish I could take back. After I got the food inside, it was cold and missing my drinks. I called the restaurant twice and got the answer that they would credit me which they never did. The full amount was taken out. I haven given this place so many opportunities to make things right, but they never did. Food tasted heated over and not fresh. Never again. read more

I agree that the front of the restaurant is deceiving. The place is very big and clean, they have hibachi available and a small sushi bar. I was brought here by a friend for lunch and I was happy with what I ordered, I ordered the spicy garlic beef Chinese dish lunch special for 8.75, the vegetables were very fresh and tasty. There were three of us and the other two people's also ordered lunch specials and their food and vegetables also looked very good. I would totally eat here again. read more

I knew about Gourmet Gardens for about 2 weeks when I came across there online menu and when i saw that they deliver Sushi and Sashimi and i said for the love of God Thankyou very Very much because there a none of any places here in Wareham, MA for you would have to go out and get your self. But being laid in a bed for the last 6 year's at the nursing home and so can understand why I was existed when Gourmet Gardens open. This restaurant which servers Japanese & Chinese Quince and there Appetizers are very Delizioso. The must try is the steam Shu Mai , the steam Peking Ravioli, Spicy Tuna Rangoon, Phil's Amazing Special ( it's a tempura delight) , also a must try is the Lettuce wrap's w/ pine nut's or without and you can have it with Organic Chicken or Shrimp, and for Appetizers you can have 1/2 dozen To a whole dozen. Now i do love Sashimi but favor is will always be Sushi. I recommend the Futo Maki(egg cake, crab stick, & pickled vegetables) Una-Avo Maki (Grilled eel & Avocado) I recommend highly at the Gourmet Garden Because wait i tried it twice already and it melts in your mouth and i can't wait to try the Grilled Eel over rice one of my delicious favorite At the combo Sushi or Sashimi i would recommend all of them , but the one i try twice already is the Chef Cook Sushi Combo it's very Delicious. In the combo you get 3 egg cake's over rice, 3 shrimps over rice, 3 Eel over rice, & 6 California roll's this one i highly recommend. From there Appetizers , fried rice (w/ duck & pineapple & Basil ). Cooked & Raw Makimono , Combo or A LA Carte Sushi , & Special or Hibachi Dinner. The Gourmet Garden in Wareham, MA, 02571 is in this viewer opinion a must try at this 5 Star Restaurant. And also I've ordered from them 3 time's and they gave me excellent service. Even on a very busy night they made it up to me on my last delivery by being here within 25mins. And I can't Wait to try there fried or bake ice cream. This is a review for take out sushi. I have written a few reviews of sushi places. I went in for take out 10 pm on a Friday night. The place looked spotless & clean. Polite staff. I put in an order for my usual rainbow maki & Philadelphia maki. Drove 1/2 HR home. I gotta say I was surprised w/this place. Damn good rolls. Fresh. Pickled ginger is the white type meaning not artificially dyed it doesn't have added nitrates. Holy crap though that wasabi make me dive straight into my drink - it burned my eyes. Homemade? Dunno, never had that type of burn before. Warning, use in small quantities. If your in Wareham & you have to choose between the Habachi Grill place or Gourmet Garden hit the gas pedal go down the road and go to this place. I've ordered the same dinner at both places ....gourmet garden is the winner. Cheaper, fresher, cleaner, quicker with amount of customers, & more polite staff. read more

Gourmet Garden - Sushi Bars Near Me - Wareham, Massachusetts

Recently moved to The Upper Cape from Connecticut, can't find really good fresh Asian food. Had to run some errands in Wareham and googled Chinese food on my cell phone as I was starving and since off the cape, figured I might get lucky. Sure enough, 1/10th of a mile (across the parking lot) at Wareham Crossing, I found Gourmet Garden. First impression, the inside of the Gourmet Garden is really beautiful and the lighting is great, the interior has clean lines and simply beautiful with touches of red. I was promptly greeted by a man and a woman. I spent a few minutes looking at the extensive To-Go Menu, placed an order and while I waited, I chatted with the very nice lady, told her how beautiful the interior was and my hunt for great Asian cuisine near me, although 18-20 miles one-way isn't that close. What was impressive is they use no MSG in their food, have zero trans-fat, have a very healthy Akai rice for a nominal upcharge, and, they use natural chicken with no growth hormones or antibiotics. This is the closest you can get to clean, organic Asian food. Gourmet Garden also has vegetarian, gluten free and diet dishes as well. For those who seemed to comment about a lack of 'combination plates' versus singular gourmet entre dishes where you order your sides (Appetizer, rice choices or Lo Mein) separately, they do have lunch and dinner combination plates on the To-Go Menu. The food we sampled at home was fresh and delicious. I felt it was clean eating. The vegetables were cut in perfect bite size pieces, the chicken dish was delicious, the beef dish was equally good, the teriyaki beef app was tender and flavorful, the won ton soup was better than most, had Chinese cabbage thinly sliced in the broth which made it heartier. The pork friend rice was the best I had in a long time, not overly soy-sauced, plenty of pork and bits of egg and onion. I am planning my next trip to Wareham around getting food here again. I gave my other family members the To-Go menu copy and I believe they are going to dinner there tonight! Another important thing, I did not feel like I had to drink a gallon of water after eating! A true sign no MSG was used! Lastly, the nice lady I was talking to followed me out to my car and gave me a bag of extra chicken fingers. How sweet was that! It might be because they gave me crab Rangoon for a side when I ordered chicken fingers on a combination plate, which I should add, was the best crab Rangoon I had in years, there was actual filling in it that you could see and taste! I just thought she went above and beyond and it was very sweet of her to do that. I will return and so will my other family members who live on the cape. Dying to try the Hibachi and maybe some sushi. everything looks so beautiful at Gourmet Garden! read more

I got delivery through grub hub. Sushi combo which was spicy tuna roll, Cali roll and crazy maki. Also, an order of Peking ravioli. All were really really good! Have been looking for a good chinese restaurant in the Plymouth area since I moved here in the 80's, and we finally found one. Very wide ranging menu selections, with very clean/nice decor, and most importantly the food was tremendous. My wife and I had Yuen Yang Spicy Beef, Hunan Spicy Chicken, and House Fried Rice along with Scorpion Bowl. The vegetables were all perfectly cooked with a slight crunch to them, the rice was not greasy in the slightest, and the seasoning/taste to all the dishes was outstanding. Our drink was very good and not watered down with juice as most places do. It was well worth the 25 min trip for us to get there. Can't wait to go back and try other menu options and the hibachi grill. read more

Was excited this was a new sushi place ! Not very pleased at all though. For starters we had the avocado salad - way to much dressing. Pork gyoza were not fried at all- very soggy. Then for sushi we tried the old favorites- spicy tuna - ok Philadelphia- had bad salmon! Both my husband and I chocked it up. So disgusting- Cali roll tasted like raw onions for some odd reason. Blah ! When trying to tell the waitress she didn't understand a word I said. She kept saying " oh good?!" No no not good. read more

Nice place to eat. Food was prepared correctly and tasted good. Pupu platter was traditionally spot on and all the fried items were fresh, I loved the crab rangoons! We also ordered Pad Thai and Summer shrimp, which were both good. Our server was attentive and very sweet. The decor was sleek and modern. At the end with our check we received a small plate with pineapple and toothpicks, which I thought was a really cute and refreshing touch :) read more

When first entering the restaurant my family realized that no one in the restaurant (which were quite a few tables of 3+ customers) had any food in front of them. Drinks and orders were put in quickly, but took a while to come out. It seemed that the majority of the restaurants orders were all brought out at the same time, which was not a problem until the wrong plates for the wrong tables started to appear. The food was very bland and was somewhat cold. The service was not the greatest either. At the end of our meals my family joked about ordering some Chinese take out from down the road, because it seemed that no one was satisfied with their meal. Will try again later on in the year, once the restaurant and staff has had time to settle in. read more

This is the ONLY place we will order Asian food since moving to Plymouth five years ago (except Krua Thai in BB). We love that there is a variety of vegetarian items. Stopped in Tuesday midday for lunch after shopping around the plaza. At this time of day, quiet and not to many customers, but that's a given...everyone is working. White leather chairs and black tables and accents of red on the walls give the dining room a modern feel. I ordered Pad Thai with tofu, spicy tuna roll and crab rangoon (with left overs). Spicy tuna roll was forgettable and lacked any real flavor besides the rice and tempura flakes - wouldn't order it again. Pad Thai was a huge portion (enough for 2 good size portions) had a good very light flavor just needed more sauce to bring out the flavors more. The tofu was cooked well, not chewy or dry. Crab rangoon was filled well filled - didn't see much "crab" but they were not over cooked and had a good flavor. I asked the Pad Thai to be hot and spicy and it wasn't...couldn't see any pepper flakes, but no biggy, just asked for a side of Asian ketchup (Siracha ) and all was fixed. Overall, pretty good. Would try it again if I was in the area. read more

Didn't even know this place existed, in all the times I've been to Wareham crossing. I walked in and the atmosphere was very neat and clean looking. I was greeted right away by a woman who said "hello!" and rushed over to take my order. She was very pleasant! I placed my order for take out, and was told it would be about 10 minutes. I ordered their "Idaho Maki"...which is sweet potato/tempura rolls. It came to just over $10 for 2 rolls. (12 bite sized pieces) I sat down in the waiting area and was there for less than 10 minutes, when the same woman brought my bag of food over. She said it would be "very yummy" and told me to have a good day. The Idaho Maki was presented nicely in a container. It was sprinkled with bean sprouts (which I just picked off anyway) and had wasabi and ginger tucked on the side, with a barrier between the rolls and the wasabi....which I really appreciated! The rolls were really very tasty! I will definitely be back! read more

STAY AWAY THIS PLACE IS RIDICULOUS. The food is, meh, but the service is absolutely horrible. It's local to our house and we gave it 3 chances, 1 was take out. The 2 dine in experiences were really bad, they brought out the wrong food and offered a free app to make up for it, my wife wouldn't eat the food they brought to us but pu-pu platter was even bad. How does an Asian restaurant f*#@ up a pu-pu platter? When the check came they charged for the "free" appetizers and the non English-speaking waitress would not take it off the check so the useless manager comes and gives us a $10 gift certificate that we wanted to use that night to pay for the free appetizer, manager said no, this for next time you come. Like that'll happen. We just left cash minus the $10 and left the gift certificate. 2nd time was take out months later thinking maybe they got their shit together, nope. Both meals were nothing even close to what we ordered. Our friends talked us into going on New Years Eve and because it's so close and neighbors said they've been going for lunch and it's been good. What a mistake. Again the worst service I've ever had and since I'm not big on alcohol I had a coke, waitress didn't even ask if I wanted a refill but brought one anyway, when the check came she charged for 2 cokes??? Really, what restaurant ever, charges for a refill of soda that I never even asked for? Between all of this the place was empty except for take out orders lined up but we couldn't get a waitress to even look towards our corner when finally one of the waitresses standing/leaning on a counter looked our way and I flagged her down, she saw me asking for the check but when she realized I noticed her looking at us she turned her head and ignored us. 10 min later the waitress, I believe her name was Stephanie but not 100% sure, came over and we asked for the check again, more time passes and she comes back a says "sorry it very busy" we all looked at each other and said to her, there's no one here how can you be that busy. Ughhhhh I stopped at the counter to get a bag for the leftovers and manager asked how everything was and I told him the service was absolutely horrible and we probably won't be coming back. He didn't say a word, not I'm sorry or anything. Obviously they could care less if people come back and trust me when I tell you, we gave it 3 chances and each time it got worse and worse. STAY FAR AWAY IF YOU WANT A DECENT MEAL AND EXPERIENCE OR IF YOU WANT SERVICE OF ANY KIND. Word to the management, when customers tell you how horrible the service was, react, say something at the very least. You've been forewarned read more

The Gourmet Garden never disappoints. Great sushi, and they even allow us to customize it without any avocado. The hibachi is excellent, fun and also well priced.
