My heartfelt gratitude goes to Jasmin and Luis from Gotham Builders of NY, without whom I wouldn't be enjoying my beautiful kitchen today. I live in a coop. The management wasn't easy approving Gotham, and I am putting it lightly. They found an obstacle over an obstacle. But Jasmin and Luis would not give up on me. Finally, we got the approval, and work started. Luis and his team not only demonstrated their exceptional professionalism, but they also earned my trust in a remarkably short time. I felt so secure in their hands that I was comfortable leaving them to work alone. Even when the cabinet company (KraftMaid, via HomeDepot) sent a few damaged cabinet doors and a cabinet base, Luis and his team were there, accommodating every time another door arrived damaged. Aside from that, this is an old building. It is amazing that it is standing because not one wall is straight, nor the floor or the ceiling. You will not see any of that when you look at my kitchen. Luis and his team managed to "camouflage" it. My budget and the final approval would not allow for any major wall changes besides plastering. They also replaced my floor from tile to parquet-looking. There was an issue with leveling with the saddle of the living room floor, but they worked it out amazingly, too. So thank you, Gotham Builders of NY. I got Gotham Builders through Homedepot. Kat came out to do the estimate and told me I would have it that night or the next day. I never got the estimate. I called Homedepot a week later and told them. They called while I was on the line and were told that I would get the estimate that night. I never did. Gotham Builders came in to fix a bad guy renovation that we had done by another contractor on our bathroom. There were a lot of issues that needed addressing, predominantly the floor was laid incorrectly and within months, tiles were popping up. The owner Andy was great, with us every step of the way. His team was able to identify what was done wrong and correct it in a timely manner so as not to inconvenience us longer than we had to be (2 adults, 3 girls with one bathroom!). Owner Andy was in contact with us virtually every day, asking us about the progress, addressing any questions and concerns, and even called us a week after the job was done to make sure that we felt everything was to your satisfaction. Really appreciate Andy's hands on approach and taking the time to make sure that the customer is satisfied and that the job is done right. With all the sketchiness in the contracting world, it was refreshing to see someone care about their business. We were connected with Gotham Builders through Home Depot for a bathroom renovation project to remove our tub and install a walk-in shower, install a new toilet, and replace the tile floor. We live in a 90 year old coop with stringent rules and requirements. Gotham Builders was able to meet all of these standards and provide an alteration package to the coop including license numbers, insurance policies, permits, etc. The team also provided guidance in selecting the necessary materials. Beyond the paperwork, once the project got started, the team was professional, punctual, and polite, and we were in constant communication. The Gotham Builders team solved problems including figuring out a way to work around a window in the bathroom, fixing issues created by the coop's workers, and advising us every step of the way. Called this contractor first time in 2001 after receiving a Letter in the mail. Just bought my house in South Ozone Park, Queens, NYC 2 months prior. Got it for a song due to the fact the exterior was in a shambles. Single pane windows from 1941 and missing many asbestos siding shingles. Called their 800 number which was answered on the first ring by a woman named Zoraida. She took some basic information and set an appt for the next day between 7-8pm for a free estimate. 20 minutes later A young man called me back and said that one of the Managers, a fellow named Jay had a last minute cancellation about a mile away and could come by within the hour. As luck had it my wife got home from her job(Nursing Assistant at NY Hospital) early due to a case of strep, and was available to join us. 20 minutes later a tall man in his late 50s wearing a Hawaiian shirt was standing outside with a briefcase and a Stanley tape measure. After walking around the perimeter of my home with Jay(last name Brick, how funny is that? A man named Brick is an expert in exteriors !) After taking some measurements and surveying the antiquated windows, We went inside and sat at the kitchen table where my wife, who had 103 fever joined us. He had with him a suitcase which held a French fry lamp and various samples of windows, one with a sheet of foil in between the panes. He then proceeded to demonstrate a window, exclusive to Gotham which contained a sheet of plastic that was actually material which NASA used on the exterior of space shuttles to refract heat back to its source so the Shuttles wouldn't burn up when entering and exiting the Earths Atmosphere. Amazing! He also explained that the window project would require some extra work, as the old rotting board underneath the shingles surrounding the windows needed to be replaced. Luckily since I also needed to replace what was left of the Asbestos shingles needed to be replaced, along with the wood underneath and he was able to shave off a little from the total price if we did both projects. After going over the details of the project, Mr. Brick spoke at length about the history of the company. I was impressed by the fact it was a family owned business which had been passed down from father to son. More impressive was the fact that they had been around for 40 years! He then explained, that due to the fact he was a manager and not one of the salesmen he could give a steep discount. On top of that he offered to take off another 5 percent, only condition being we would have to display a plastic, screen printed sign on the exterior. It seemed too good to be true! The next 2 hours were spent writing up a contract and discussing financing options. Finally around 11:30 pm we agreed on the terms of the contract, for A whole house of energy efficient vinyl siding, 18 "Heat Mirror" windows along with a 500 dollar cash deposit, which Mr Brick said will expedite the process of manufacturing the windows, which were custom made to fit my house. The following day at about 1pm, a lanky good looking man in his early thirties named Sean arrived at my door along with his partner Beppo and Mr. Brick. Jay introduced Sean and Beppo as the in house Window installers. Long story short, the siding job started less than a week later and 3 weeks later the entire project was completed. It was way smoother than I expected. The windows and siding saved me up to 50 dollars a month on my energy bills, and the sign led to 3 of my neighbors also hiring Gotham for various projects. The only hiccup was a few months later, after a noreaster slammed the east coast, water had seeped thru and traveled inside the walls. I called Jay(on his personal cell phone!) and the next day he arrived with a fellow named Steve Niles, a carpenter who fixed the leakage problem within a few days! Aside from the exceptional service Mr. Brick provided, the office staff was available by phone until 11pm. Kudos to Zoraida, Arlene and The young man for their efforts! 13 years later in 2014, After retiring from 30 years with the MTA, I decided to remodel my Kitchen, which had seen better days. You could imagine my surprise when I called The Cell phone number of Mr. Brick and he answered! My house had a good amount of equity at this point so Mr. Brick explained it would be wise to finance the project using the homes equity, with a loan with interest that was tax deductible, so I didn't have to draw from my Pension, which in the long run would basically pay for the job as the pension matured. In fact we not only did we remodel the kitchen, but the loan made it affordable monthly that We also hired Jay and Gotham to remodel our 1950s pink tile disaster of a bathroom. Again the job went off with little hassle, as the carpenters, electricians and plumbers all worked as a team . Thank You Gotham Builders for the nice work. read more

These guys are the worst. They redid my roof and never bothered to seal it, when I had a problems a year later they said the warranty had expired and I should have checked it more thoroughly. Their work is shoddy and overpriced. read more

They never got a chance to do work for me on account of their sketchy tactics. I had an appointment set for an estimate for my attic remodel. They called me four days after the appointmen was set, 30 minutes after they were scheduled to arrive to ask if "all decision makers" will be available for the appointmen. I told the initial scheduler it would be just me and reitterated the same to this person. She said "because of their better buiness A+ rating they need all decision makers there for the appointment" I never heard a bigger load of horse s#!+. She said she would speak to her manager and let me know if they could keep the appointment. I asked her to check if it was even still possible to make the scheduled time we had set because I needed to be at work in an hour. She called me back 2 minutes later and said rhe contractor is at another site and wouldnt be able to make it. Basically it was all a load of crap they had no intentions of keeping my appointment. If you are that dishonest on the onset why would I trust you to do work on my home? read more

They sold us on these "great windows" but they are a pain to latch and the weep whole is designed for suburban homes. We were glad that the windows did block sound a lot. The frame around one began leaking and they had every excuse in the book, even though it never leaked before. They blamed the house instead of taking responsibility for the problem and re-doing the capping. They did reseal the window after I had complained but refused to recap it. read more

No, I haven't received a "freebie" nor am I connected to this scam company. Seven years ago, I had Gotham Builders put a new roof on my house. The sub-contracter took off the existing, leaky roof, never bothering to provide a tarp for the exposed roof. I think his name was Manny. That night it rained cats & dogs. Water leaked into the entire roof. The following day- no apology-he proceeded to intall a new roof, without checking what damage had been done from the previous night's storm, much less wait two or three days to let the roof dry out. I'm not a roofer-therefore I put my faith in this man's hands. BIG MISTAKE! Additionaly, because he never bothered to VENT the roof, the moisture was trapped inside the roof and ceiling with the result of mold. The roof was repaired-but never vented. The brand new roof leaked A 2ND TIME!!!. One of two things happened with this man's work. Either he had no knowledge how to install a roof-as such, to be diplomatic-his work was sub-standard/par OR he simply didn't give a damm. The contracter could care less-they got their money! read more
