Start to finish the experience was a nightmare. Our roof is the embarrassment of the neighborhood, it's almost a month and our neighbors are still asking when it will be completed. We now have gaps in our eves and our soffit is destroyed, among about a dozen other deficiencies and incomplete work that has left us exposed to endless problems. The employees were constantly inappropriate - they made homophobic and derogatory statements throughout the process when we asked for the work to be done according to the manufacturer's specifications. We're a cis couple but the owner told me in writing more than once my pronouns must be "it" because I was not ok with this random person calling me "woman" in a demeaning tone. He also didn't believe my vocabulary to be mine apparently and accused me constantly of using AI to write our complaints and requests for the work to be done correctly. Woman's brain? No, must be AI. They demanded payment in full before work was completed calling it a "progress" payment through their terms said payment upon completion and nothing about a progress payment. They had already tried for another $11k after they ripped the old roofing off that they refused to itemize out or provide us with a copy of the GAF customer report every roofer should supply the client so we could try to do the math ourselves. Then they cut our internet in two places (cutting our cameras) before having 4 men on my door demanding payment when they knew I was home alone. Neighbors had to come out to make sure I was ok when they saw me surrounded and their employees attacked them verbally too. Who knows what would have happened if they didn't or I didn't have my phone recording. Had to stay elsewhere the first night just not feeling safe in the house until the lines could be repaired and still don't feel safe since they were here. I now lock the back door when home. Dishonest and will depreciate the house by creating damage that wasn't there and work without any care to detail. Our roof looks like a bad craft project, hodgepodge glued together and different colors, it's devastating. By far the worst contractor experience I've had in my life. Of the contractors we interviewed, they seemed to be the most communicative, efficient, and meticulous, which is exactly what we experienced during two intense days of work. They explained the process in detail beforehand, patiently answering all of our questions. During the job they constantly apprised us of progress in real time, including via drone pictures. When complications arose that required additional decisions, they thoroughly explained the alternatives. They maintained an immaculate job site, completely protecting our front and back yards, cornices, and neighboring roofs, and after the final cleanup left it looking as if they were never there. The person from Royal Renovators who came to give me an estimate had put something on the back license plate of his car to prevent its number from being read by toll cameras, etc. This to me shows a lack of ethics or honesty by the person. It's been a few months since our complete roof and gutter replacement was done and I have hounded with water leaking issues that's driven by the new gutters they installed. They came the first time around to assess and admitted that it's possible the water management is off and quickly changed the layout of the pipes - my gutters can no longer effectively manage the water and it overflows along the side of my house and downspout resulting in water penetrating my home. They did the repair and after the moderately heavy rains we had last night, same issue. Water penetrated my walls and entered my basement - again. This was after I had repaired the basement walls. I haven't had issues I am aware of with the roof itself, but the gutters are absolutely not working. I have never had this issue with the old gutters and I am beyond frustrated. My roof was damaged severely due to Hurricane Ida and I needed a company whose reputation was solid and had a good track record. I found Royal Renovators through some research and decided to give them a go. The receptionist was able to immediately me up with a project manager Shy the next day and he did a pretty good assessment of the work needed via drone and some questions about the roof history. He was able to find the correct replacement shingle needed (which is rare these days) and pick a day that had great weather and got a team assembled to get going right away. Steer away from this company if you are not able to start your project asap or are having any issues with starting your project. They do not give you back your deposit and if you wait long enough your material is gone. You are treated with excuses and roadblocks before they try to accommodate you, they are not professional in the customer service department, they act more like used car salesman. At this point we had three project managers. Shy was the first, with whom after seeing the proposal and then revising it, I signed the contract and gave a cash deposit. There was a change order in which that small work on the chimney was done. Then Shy no longer worked for the company, then it was Matt briefly who wasn't responsive and after that we were given Eden who told us initially our materials were gone and given to someone else, they couldn't get them again. If my materials were going to be "given away" a phone call from the company beforehand would of been appropriate to ask where I was at with my project. He then also mentioned that prices went up since our first proposal and wanted $5,000 more to do this job. After numerous phone calls and an actual argument over the phone and him being extremely rude and yelling at my wife, I tried talking to him after, but it all left a very bad impression that we were treated like this. During this argument when my wife asked to speak to someone above him, he then stated that there was no one above him and he was the boss. I then tried working with him, but he wouldn't give me a written breakdown right away, he said it would take a week to get that to me. It has been an unpleasant experience working with the last two project managers and you can see from my experience a customer should not be treated like this. BEWARE, even if this company doesn't do any roof work or gives you no materials, they still take a large chunk of your deposit, which they only give back 25 percent of the total price not 25 percent of the deposit price. I had the worst customer service experience and even with paying them with my deposit for the small chimney work I still lost over $10,000. Their original quoted price was $2k less than another roofer. However, the other roofer included the unlimited removal and patching of the rotted wood underneath. In the middle of the project, Royal told us that they need about $6k more (50% increase to original cost) to patch the rotted wood underlyment. We could not negotiate at this point of the process with the roof being bare in the winter. Now $6k seems reasonable if they had to replace ALL of the wood underlayment on the roof but they only patched small sections - maybe 2 full plywood sheets? So beware of this aspect of the price and try to budget for it. read more

I own three multifamily homes in Brooklyn and have been exposed to a lot of workers. Never before have I really felt taken advantage of by a builder/repair company more than I was with Royal Renovators. What was supposed to be a 7-10k job fixing a leaky basement(as estimated by a 3rd party consultant), RRR quoted us 20k but made verbal statements guaranteeing we would never see water again...also providing us a 'warranty' on their work. This was during CoronaVirus, and the moment they stepped foot in the house they raised price to 30k and cited there being more concrete in the back landing, where they were going to re-pitch, than they thought. But assured us at every step of the quality of their work, and the speed of their execution. When the work was done, and we were told how great it was, we felt poorer but relieved it was done. Until the next rain storm.... About 80% of the water that came in before their work, still came in, and once again I was left with irate tenants. When confronted, they told me nothing was ever a guarantee, especially with basements. Our more trusted repair person ended up completing the work for 6k more, and refused to believe we paid 30k already for the work we received. Unfortunately he was out of town the week we had the work done.... To add insult to injury, one of the workers my tenant built a relationship with, said he still hasn't been paid by the company... Mike is very professional and was on the problem right away. He did a retrofit drain correction and then cleared and re finished the area of the roof around the drain. So about two years ago, Royal Renovators did a fantastic job on my rain gutters. So, when I found my roof leaking from multiple places, I called Sean up again and they delivered again. They did a complete replacement of my roof and these guys were awesome in completing the work in one day. As promised, 15 guys showed up around 7:30 AM with a dump truck and completely tore off the old roof. Then I watched as they replaced the deteriorated plywood with new ones. Finally, they added layer upon layer of GAF, SBS, and Karnak roofing material to give me multiple layers of protection. My old roof was a horrible mess. It was a layover from an inexperienced contractor who even used regular nails which apparently is an absolute no-no in the world of roofing since it will go through multiple layers of roofing and some of the nails were even starting to come out which would allow even more water to penetrate. Royal specializes in roofing and it shows. There's such a pleasure in watching guys work who only do one job and do it ridiculously well. Their technique and skill were excellent. They didn't even need to come into my building as they used a super-long ladder to go straight to the roof. Their guys were so skilled and brave that they would walk up the ladder as nonchalantly as if I were walking up the stairs. I would have been clutching that ladder for dear life. Their foreman (Edgar and Carlos) also provided some good jokes throughout the day. Those guys have decades of experience in roofing and it was great that they were just watching over the work of the crew. I was impressed with the crew. They all worked hard as a team and they didn't need much instruction from the foreman. Here are some tips if you are going to have a roof tear-off: 1. buy some donuts and coffee for the crew in appreciation. 2. if you are going up on the roof to watch the work wear some old clothes and sneakers since you will likely get tar on them. If you do, goo-gone can help remove them. 3. if you are going to replace your skylight, you can clean out the old skylight area with a vacuum cleaner, some rags, and ideally windex for less streaking. read more

Best roofing decision ever! We hired Royal to replace the entire flat roof of our commercial building, in addition to replacing a smaller roof that sits adjacent and beneath our flat roof. After numerous failed attempts over the past few years to resolve a number of different leaks - some areas would leak in our showroom area, other areas leaked on the 2nd floor and there were other leaky areas under our smaller roof - we finally decided to go with the pro's of the pro's. After doing plenty of research and getting 2 other quotes, we made the wisest roofing decision to date and chose Sean's crew at Royal. The knowledge and attention to detail that was showed through the whole process really gave us the confidence that this company knows what they are doing from A to Z. First, identifying all the problem areas (mainly around our A/C units and all the other openings, such as our skylights on the lower roof, a handrail that was drilled on our flat roof, etc), then having a proper solution and plan of action to address all the problem areas and even offering us helpful advice and recommendations through the process. Great communication across the board, from our talks with Sean and the workers on site. All in all, replacing an entire flat commercial roof and a smaller standard roof is not exactly an inexpensive or cheap expense. However, if there's something I've learned from past experiences - "you get what you paid for and you will never regret getting quality". A quality job will save you tons in the long-run. It never pays to go cheap and if we had known about Royal Roofing before having hired a few independent "so-called" roofing pros (AKA fly by nighters who didn't guarantee anything and obviously don't take any pride or professionalism in their craft), we would have saved a lot of time, money and headaches. Everything at Royal was done with proper detail, professionalism, care and a good attitude to boot. This is by far the most detailed recommendation I've ever given but after my overall experience, they are very well deserving of it. With any contractor, home repair, or service related to your home I feel like there's not much of a range. You either suck or you don't. I had what I thought was a clogged downspout and so I went searching on Yelp and found that a fellow Yelp friend had actually used Royal. Unlike a restaurant meal where I would've just gone on that fact alone, I decided to do my due diligence since pricing for any home related service/work can be across a wide spectrum. I reached out to numerous companies via Yelp relatively late at night and Sean the owner responded with a message shortly after saying they'd call. There were a few other similar responses from the other companies as well. The following morning, I ended up calling the various companies. A few of the companies clarified they only did pure roofing work and don't clean gutters. When I initially talked to the receptionist at Royal she also told me the same and wished me well in my search. A while later I got a call back from the receptionist and she clarified that she was mistaken and would have Sean give me a call to see what they could do. After speaking with Sean he was able to give me a competitive rate and since some of his guys were already in the area, had his guys take care of cleaning and clearing my gutter downspout the same day. It turned out my gutter/downspout was fine and that it actually wasn't pitched properly to drain appropriately. Sean gave me a quote to replace and re-pitch the gutter, but I wasn't ready to go ahead with that. Since my gutter/roof was new, I told Sean I was going to reach out to the original roofers that did the work to see if they could take care of it under warranty. Being at work, that was a conversation I was going to leave for the following day, but surprisingly I got a call from Sean about 30 minutes later. Since he already had guys up there he had them try their best to re-pitch the existing gutter and didn't charge me anything additional. A few days after a recent thunder storm I noticed that a previous area that experienced a leak was once more showing signs of water damage. My roof was showing its age so I decided to see if it was worth isolating the leak and fixing that or whether replacing the roof was the way to go. Calling around and searching online eventually led to me Royal Renovators. I left messages for two other companies, they never replied. Others offered prices to replace my roof, one didn't even want to see if he could find the source of the leak, but even though their prices were a bit lower than Royal Renovators, I decided to go with the company that offered me options (both to fix the leak area or to replace the roof entirely) and offered a great warranty on both labor and material. Furthermore, the numerous employees I dealt with were always available to answer my questions, which I greatly appreciated. Nailing down a date for the roof replacement was the hardest part of the process as late March and early April were witness to unpredictable weather swings. Eventually we settled on a date and promptly at 7:30am I was met at the front door by a team from Royal Renovators. They were incredibly competent and respectful of my property and that of my neighbor, going above and beyond in protecting areas where pieces of the roof would inevitably fall. They made sure to take pictures of the roof before they began to work on it, as well as progress pictures and that of the final product. They kept me updated throughout and the entire process was over by the end of the day. The clean up process was almost as impressive as my new roof. They were meticulous in cleaning up the areas around my house, including the sidewalk, and took their time in making sure everything they previously moved was placed exactly where they found it (plants in the backyard). When an issue did come up, they directed my attention to a small tear on the screen of a window (which I had no idea had even occurred) and immediate addressed the issue to my satisfaction. After having several estimates for a total roof replacement on one of the houses of our estate, we found to get the best price for the longest warranty with Royal Renovators. They came as promised in the morning and finished the whole roof in one day. They removed all the debris and within reasonable timed installed the new skylight, which had to be custom made as well as a drainage pipe. We are very happy with the great job they did so efficiently and at a reasonable price. When the roof on one of our other houses was leaking, it was an easy decision whom to call. We were not prepared to do a whole roof replacement, which would have been the best option, but Royal Renovators after inspecting the roof gave us a reasonable price for patching up several defects on the chimneys and the roof, which they did right after the inspection.
