You are not coming here for fine decor or an aesthetic pleasure experience! Why'd I pop in here you ask? Well of course because of the upcoming zombie invasion ... duh!!! Are we not entering into wave #5 & variant #23 or something like that!? Karens are losing their friggin minds & this prolonged pandemic doesn't seem to want to go away! Folks it's getting scary out there ... arm yourselves! Yikes! Many will remember the popular 3 Vets store that closed down in 2017. They used to sell quite the collection of knives & other sporting goods. GS has kinda stepped in as their replacement. GS also has a massive offering of Airsoft guns for all you BB gun enthusiasts, camo & regular survival gear, bags, hats, bear spray & batons - to ward off the zombies ... you know them as Karens! The sales dude with tatts all over him was very helpful & informative. In fact he lead me into buying an item I never in a million years would have thought to buy! I can't wait to use it! I picked up 2 items but I will never tell because Karens/Zombies could be reading this & I don't want to give them a heads-up! Hee! The crazies are here amongst us - people wake up!!! Don't let the outside fool you because As other said lots of items to choose from and things u wouldn't think they wouldn't have ( see picture). It is a bit hard to find parking spot but what place in Vancouver doesn't have this problem. Milly is the BEST sale PURRson ever!!! I first met her well see pictures but; What a unique shopping experience we had with her! After I gave her much need attention, She took me down isle and talking my ear off randomly sale pitching me on different items, as she made her way down the isle. I have to say, it's always fun to hit up Gorilla Surplus. I tend to be blunt with feedback and reviews and it may be good, bad or ugly. At least I can always depend on people like Mark at Gorilla to make sure I get the stuff I need. Every time I have a new need (Walking stick, while a knee is healing up, paint ball gun to scare off critters etc,) I generally start and often end my search at Gorilla. With the Vancouver area tending towards the wild west lately, I wanted a collapsible baton and some pepper spray. You guessed it, I went to Gorilla. I honestly want to say thank you to the folks there for always helping and not trying to oversell. Now everybody go to Gorilla and buy your pepper spray. I hope you never have to use it. read more

I was super impressed by this small-but-mighty store! I visited recently to get some pepper spray and, even though I am totally NOT a "military"-type of person, I was really blown away by the huge variety of merchandise here for hiking, camping and self-protection. I also was super impressed by how friendly and knowledgeable the staff were (I think the guy I spoke to most was Mark, at the front counter. He sure knew his stuff, plus the laws about pepper spray too). I really appreciated how, despite how clearly I had NO idea about what to get, I was NOT swayed by the staff to get the most expensive option of pepper spray but, in fact, I was told the most basic model would suit my needs just fine. I noted they also carry lots of outdoorsy clothing and various accessories, too (lots of patches and stickers). Great place, great staff. Also good to know that there is a ton of free street parking on the side streets. read more

Gorilla Surplus have really helped me out over the past few years and i was very happy with my last couple of visits. Respectively i've had much better interactions with their staff on Broadway than their downtown location on Granville, and their willingness to make things right and offer a solid deal is appreciated. The surrounding neighbourhood appears a bit rough around the edges but they've always been patient and professional with certain characters frequenting the business, and keeping that in mind i try my best to be polite and patient as a customer to the staff. Although they may have some issues regarding the price point on their website compared to the in-store price, they went out of their way to make sure i got the better deal and even exchanged the price difference without having to exchange the product itself. As stated before if you come in with a polite, friendly attitude they really do come through for their customers. read more

In this lovely shop, I found plenty of professional outdoors equipment and interesting things. I found an old dog tap maker, so unique and precious, show the long history. The boss and the staff is very friendly and patient. The day before I lost my ROTHCO tactical hat in the valley on the ferry, one stuff guy show me the newly catalog of ROTHCO, it was so amazing! Gorilla Surplus has been around for ages and is probably the first surplus store most of us have been to growing up. It was always affectionately known as "The Army Surplus" store amongst all the kids I met. Remember that fad in the mid 90's with everyone getting a nylon flight jacket with the orange lining and the pen pockets sewn onto the shoulder of your left sleeve? Remember how it hit retail fashion shops and they were charging close to a hundred dollars for them? Well those in the know got the real deal from here for $50 or less. I remember lucking out as I was shopping for one and low and behold my future bro-in-law who was part of the US National Guard had an extra one that went my way. Come Halloween I'd flip that shit inside out and voila perfect pumpkin orange! Anyways you can't miss this place as they always have huge props outside the store and of course the namesake Gorilla decked out in various gear. Another fashion item that you can get a better cheaper one of? Yeah that's right G, those dog tags you're wearing. Actually everything's cheap(er) here when it comes to the fashionable military gear du jour. Of course comparitively there's a few other surplus stores that offer more competitive pricing, however they price differences aren't across the board. So what's cheap elsewhere for one item, can easily be the cheapest here for another. Some people even come here for all their camping needs! Do you have what it takes to camp out military style? I ain't hard core enough to be able to rig up that military style fabric tent, I prefer my ultra lightweight aluminum poles and waterproof tent materials. You know what makes a fun keepsake box? It's durable as hell and cheaper than anything you can think of at a craft store. Yeah baby, lug that ammunition container to the checkout pronto. PS. There is a handful of companies that I trust for my online purchases, and Gorilla Surplus is one of them! I trust when their website says an item is in stock, that it is actually in stock! And not a lie in order to take my money and than make me wait like so many other companies do. They process and ship my items quickly, sometimes a little bit longer than 48 hours, but never has been more than 72 hours. They have surprised me with very quick email responses to my questions and concerns and I appreciate that their are respectful and honest companies like this one still out there. read more

I ordered a VERY expensive knife on line from this store that I never received. It was stolen from the mail carrier before it was delivered to me. I contacted customer service and this was their response; "I'm really sorry about this. Thanks for the information. Let us submit a claim with Canada Post They usually process in 5 business days. They should refund us at least $100. Once we have a reply from them, we'll let you know." Resolution: Zaid fully refunded my money today. (Sept.29). I ordered the item on August 4th. (56days) He eventually made it right, but this took a LOT off effort and correspondence on MY part. Lots of positive reviews for in store experience, so maybe ok in person, but I will not be doing any more internet business with this establishment. I purchased online from this company about 6 weeks ago. I have yet to receive either my order or a refund. I have been in touch with "Zaid" who I assume is an employee of this company as that is the signature I have on the emails they have sent to me. I informed this company on Sept. 11 that I had not received my order that I had placed nearly a month before. They replied to me that my order had been shipped on August 28. On Sept. 19 I requested either my purchase be sent to me or a refund be issued. They replied by requesting that I confirm my postal address which I did. Then they told me the order had been "delivered" and then returned to them. In order to send it to me again they were going to charge me an additional $30 in shipping fees!! FOR AN ORDER I HAD ALREADY PAID SHIPPING ON!!! When they supplied a Canada Post tracking number it even showed THEY had sent it to the WRONG address!!!!!!!!!! As of now I don't know how this will end, but I do know they are threatening to charge my credit card again. I have stated in no uncertain terms that I will consider it theft and that they have already been reported to my credit card company!!! BEWARE ONLINE SALES SCAM. Purchased an airsoft gun and had it shipped out. Upon receipt of gun, not firing rite and was advised to go and buy a new magazine. Non in town so decided to return it for refund, got go ahead and they sent me a free return shipping label. After arrival they informed me that shipping is on me for return, even though it was a defective gun. NOT IMPRESSED by this policy, as the manufacturer will reimburse them for everything. Don't order anything online from these guys. I placed my order and then sent a quick email to change the shipping address. Response said that they would, and that the item would be sent out that day. All well and good, so far. One week later and they email me again to tell me that, sorry, the item had not shipped; in fact, they were out of stock, and would I like a refund? Yes, I said, cancel my order and refund me. 26 hours later I get another email saying that my order, the one they offered to refund me for, that I asked to be cancelled and refunded for, was being shipped to me. No, I said, cancel and refund me like you offered, and I accepted, yesterday. Cue three weeks of them refusing to begin processing my refund until they received the item that they erroneously shipped me. I finally got them to concede to begin processing my refund once I provided them with a tracking number for the package. Also, don't expect to get a receipt from them. I asked no less than seven times, and not once did they even so much as *acknowledge* it. Customer service is absolute garbage. I was emailed by no less than 3 people, none of whom appeared to know that the other was emailing me. My primary point of contact would send me an email one day, and then another email a few days later contradicting what he told me previously. They never provided any explanations for themselves, and their emails read like some kind of shitty, copy-paste form that they got from some faceless corporate goon. They also don't know the first thing about their responsibilities as a retailer under the Consumer Protection Act. If, for some inexplicable reason, you buy anything from them online, don't hesitate to contact your credit card company and file for a chargeback. Find someone else to buy your things from. Literally anyone else. You'll get better customer service from a squirrel. 1 star is being exceedingly generous. read more

What's more fun than a wander through an army navy surplus store with the backpacks, camouflage, men's-sized hats, water canteens, and all kinds of imaginable military getup? This is a great spot to swing by before traveling or a camping trip. Everything exudes a functionality with a sprinkling of perfection from a movie set. In reality all the stock (for me) is rather ill-fitting and made of rigid materials that I'd rather not wear. Prices are cheaper here than I've paid at Coast Mountain, Canadian Tire, etc. for utilitarian outdoorsy items. This place is not professional at all when it comes to customer service and repair. My boyfriend bought a brand new airsoft gun and when he brought it home we realize the stock was not working. We did some research and realize the pin was bent inside. We did somehow manage to remove the stock and called in to ask if they could fix it and they said they can exchange the stock, so I brought it in on a Tuesday. They apparently ordered in a wrong stock that won't work on his gun, so I asked if they could find one to work, the employee's respond was "there's none in the market anymore" (which we later found being sold on their website) However, I was told it can be fixed if we go in again after the next day or whenever. Boyfriend went to pick it up on Friday to find them saying that it couldn't be fixed and that we bent it when we took the stock out. They tried fixing it again on the spot. Later that day my boyfriend called for a follow up and the employee told him they will no longer be fixing the gun for us because we were the one that broke it. Them switching against their own words doesn't make logic sense at all. I went in with my boyfriend today and gave up expecting them to fix it because it doesn't seem like it's negotiable anymore. They have straightened the pin for us but all the parts was still dissembled, we realized they lost a crucial part of the stock. we request it being found because we already did our research and know how to fix it ourselves at this point. The employee couldn't find it but tries to tell us that the stock was broken anyways so it couldn't be used anymore. He keeps on repeating that we broke it in the first place because they always check the gun before selling it, and that if we like to file a complaint on losing the part then we can go ahead. I find it very ridiculous base on how unprofessional and the way they chose to deal with customer's problem instead of coming up with a solution. It didn't felt nice being blamed when we were honest the whole time so I pulled out a picture to proof that the pin was already bent before the stock was taken off and even told them to check the camera because no one checked the gun for us when my boyfriend bought it. They didn't bother so we end up leaving with our airsoft gun. At home we used a pen cap to DIY replace the lever retainer nut they lost. Fixed it, and works fine now. Not sure what was so difficult. Wasted us 3 trips when they sold us a defect product. Airsoft community is small, and now I got a story to tell. read more

I go there all the time for bullet holders, tactical pens and coats, jackets, pants etc. They have all kinds of trinkets etc for survival etc. Decent selection of tactical boots etc. I usually buy stuff from there every few months. Really unfortunate to have to give this store a one-star for my disappointing trip here. Very unprofessional how they don't go by their store hours and that the store staff do not know their own store hours. Complete waste of my time, gas, and effort coming all the way here from the North Shore when I confirmed with them TWICE before coming. Knowing Monday was a holiday, we sent an email inquiring about their store hours a day before with a reply from Katelyn stating they close at 5pm. No problem. On the day of (today) we called once again to confirm when they were open until. I specifically asked for their HOLIDAY HOURS TODAY on the phone. The staff answered 7pm to my surprise, which was fine. In the end, we arrived at the store at 4:50pm and entered with the staff lounging around, chatting and telling us "we're closed." Crazy how the staff wouldn't know what time their shift ended when I called hours earlier?? We already knew what we wanted and would've been a quick, less-than-5min, grab, pay and go situation, but no help was offered to us even though their door was still unlocked and we were able to enter AND they were just sitting there talking with 10 minutes left till they're supposedly closed. To be fair, I'm not sure of what they may have been discussing before I entered. Be it professional or not, the point I want to make is their store hours were not honoured and this has caused a huge inconvenience and disappointing experience. read more

Worst Airsoft store I have ever used, by far. The people on the phone always tell me something different from someone online. Also gun the wrong gun shipped to me Twice! They have an error on there website where if you click on a gun it stays on that hyperlink even though you maybe looking at a totally different gun. Makes it super easy to order the wrong gun. Also the people in the store and the people online must not talk to each other ever. Every time I spoke with someone on the phone they provided a different answer then the person by email. Because they told me they shipped the wrong gun a second time, I both called and emailed before the order was sent out, 2 different times. Spoke with someone in the store who fixed the order and sent the right stuff..... or so he said. The person who I was talking to by email told me they shipped the wrong stuff again even though the guy in the store told me he had fixed the order before shipping me the wrong gun. I spent 2 hours on hold, Waited multiple days to get email replies and called and emailed them twice about the second wrong order in a row. Both times the guy in the store told me he sent the right gun, the guy online told me he shipped the wrong gun. Also on my first order I purchased on the first of the month. Was then told that my order had been shipped the next day or day after. 5 days later I called and they were able to add a new gun to the order as it had not even left the shop yet even though they had told me it was already shipped out. If your going to buy anything from this store, which I do not suggest, At least go into the store to buy what your looking for (If you can that is). Online you should use a different Airsoft store. I have seen other reviews of people complaining about staff inside the store also so maybe just buy elsewhere. The worst part is I had bought a G36c from this store previously without a hitch way back in 09 I think. I had planned to use this store as my supplier for my social media channel and review a new gun once per month. After so many mistakes and whatnot I can no longer suggest buying anything from this store at this point. read more

One of the best surplus stores I've ever been to. Staff are pretty chill while being very helpful too; no attitude, no creeps, and no pushy salespeople. Not to mention Mark (the guy with the tattoos) is super awesome. I buy so much of my hiking and other miscellaneous outdoor gear here because it's so much cheaper than it is at other stores on the Broadway outdoor strip as long as you don't mind olive drab, camo, and the otherwise lack of colour selection. Function over fashion for me. Like most surplus stores I have been to, some of what they sell is ACTUAL army surplus while some of it seems to be more "army styled gear" that is intended for the civilian market. I personally tend to go for the actual army issue stuff as I can be assured that it's made to last. Not sure which is which? Just ask. Want something to wear that won't get all torn up while bushwacking? Zombie apocalypse survival supplies? A good flashlight for walking your dog at night? Ski mask for, uh, skiing? Ghillie suit to scare your friends? Combat boots for that metal show coming up? They've got it all right here at Gorilla Surplus! When I called they said it wasn't in stock so I opened a paypal claim to get my money back. I purchased something else months later and after 5 days they still didn't ship it out saying that because I previously opened a paypal claim that they would not ship out my order and when I asked to talk to the owner it took days and he still didn't call me back. This is the reason I was so fashionable in high school in the 90's. I had this thing in high school for wearing army clothes and army printed items. This place sold the real thing that were expensive. It made more sense for my dad to pay $150 - $200 at the time for real military pants with a million pockets than to buy designer clothes for me at the mall that would get wrecked in months. I LIVED in my army pants between 1993 - 1997. I bought a military dress here in the late 90's that ended up being my prom dress (I went to prom twice with a guy I dated who was one year older and then again for mine but with a different dress). They have everything here including rain coats. I still shop here when I need something reliable and sturdy. Customer service was really great. They were always nice to my dad and I 'cause certain clothes being military clothes had specific ways of putting on and care. My mom hated my army clothes 'cause these pants were impossible to iron perfectly. Eventually she gave up and used to hang them to dry knowing that they would be wrinkled in the mosh pit before it even hit the next laundry cycle. I am so glad that this place is still around and I am glad that I continued to be a customer since 1993. read more
