Of the many board shops in this area I walked into this one first. I was coming from out of town…read moreand looking for a whole new setup including a snowboard, bindings, boots and bag. When I walked in I felt out of place as most beginner snowboarders probably would feel. It just looked like a small, cramped board shop to me but compared to the other places, I'd take that over the stuffy, boutique type of shops the others seemed to be. Jess at West Coast was very helpful asking me questions to better hone in on what type of equipment would best suit me. She was super informative and didn't pressure me to commit to purchasing anything. In fact, she even told me to go to the other shops in the area to compare equipment and pricing. Pretty ballsy but it made me feel at ease right away. I went to all the other shops and no one made me feel comfortable about being there. Very few questions and assistance. Instead it almost felt like they were uptight because I may not have looked like a typical snowboarder. Needless to say I went back to West Coast and bought the lot, about $1500 worth of equipment. Then I put it to use going up to Whistler the next four days and loved every second of it. The board (Bataleon Goliath) performed great and my feet felt perfect throughout every run. Lastly, I would've given them 5 stars but the person helping my girlfriend with her ski boots was unknowledgeable and not a very big help to her. If you do go to this place go see Jess. There was another Aussie guy behind the counter that was giving his input and helping me out as well but I didn't catch his name. Mahalo, K

We did the entire 'snowboard alley' of W 4th and this place had by far the best deals. Not only were the prices better to begin with, they also carried more classic styles and colours in jackets and pants that suited my friend's fashion tastes. The staff were really helpful picking out a snowboard that was a great price, European-made and would last him for years. The graphics were pretty sweet, too. The board was freshly waxed and they set it up with the bindings in-store. In addition to already low prices and some sale items, the staff cut my friend a deal since he was buying a bunch of gear. It was the cherry on top! This shop also has non-snow-related sporting gear on the second floor.

Well, first of all I've been a part of the Pro Snowboard and Skateboarding community since 1996…read more Being A Pro Rider From 1998-2004 and sponsored by the now famous local brand RDS, I was absolutely appalled by the rude and judgemental greeting I received upon my first visit to this location. I don't expect people to know who I am. However, I do expect the owner of the store who was the gentlemen, if you can even call him that, first greeted me upon entry to be non judgemental and welcoming. especially with a new business in a small tightknit community. Now, let me explain the circumstances. I have a service dog that was with me. Before even asking if this was a service dog or even going as far as to saying hi to me and making eye contact, this grumpy human came out from the back and muttered in a rude and condescending tone "we don't allow animals in the store, THANKS!" Le's be clear, I was going in there to purchase a set of skateboard wheels for my brother. I don't have the time for people like this and that place will not receive any of my business and I will not promote them in the community. A word of advice, do yourself a favour and put a sign on your gate or your front door that says 'no dogs or animals allowed except for service dogs'. Also the next time you decide to be rude and condescending, especially when you've been seen smoking and drinking alcohol in public on the bench just next to your store, think about what kind of image you're portraying to the youth in the community! Not a good look. To finish, I wish you the best with your future endeavours.

He skateboards on and off and had a bad fall yesterday at a nearby skateboard park. I learned from some folks at the park who tested my son's board that his skateboard needed new bearings. Looking it up, I learned what a bearing does and began to look for a place to get new bearings. I went to P.D. Hot Shop this morning with the skate board and the people there recommended the cheapest bearings they have, saying that they are excellent and would be sufficient for my son's needs. Actually, I had looked up all the information about skateboard bearing online and had pretty much come to the same conclusion. They helped me changed the bearings right there and in 15 minutes I walked out with my son's skateboard properly fixed. I appreciate their honesty and down to earth manner or doing things. I would be back for any additional skateboard needs my son may have in the future.
