Knowing that Lisa and her employees test out *everything* they sell, I was quite confident in their choices.

Love these guys!! I'm an adult getting back into skating after a ~15year break and I felt a little…read moreawkward at first when I realized I was the oldest customer by about 30 years, but then Will and the other employees took such good care of me and thoroughly welcomed me into the Vancouver adult skating community (there were other adults who came in after me to buy skates as well!). I spent about 3-4 hours working with them to get the best skates for my goals and then making little adjustments to ensure the perfect fit. They said people often come back for adjustments, but I just did it all in one visit, and now I have the perfect skates! I'm so in love! They have a pretty extensive selection of skate boots and blades in addition to all the accessories (soakers, guards, socks, ankle gel pads, etc.) They also offer a few free blade sharpenings when you buy skates from them.

I went here for the first time last week. I am an adult and I started Figure skating about a year…read moreago and needed to move up to pair safe to jump in. My partner, who works in an ice rink, suggested this place. I am very glad that I took the time to go up there. They were really helpful and let me try a few pairs, heating and adjusting each. When I found a pair that I like the best, they put on the blades, sharpen the blades, taught me how to tie them properly, and how to make sure that the blades get sharpened correctly. I did end up buying a pair that was more expensive than my original choice. I kind of felt like I was being upsold at first, but honestly, it was the pair that my coach recommended, and I thought they felt the best on my feet. I heard the woman talking to other customers, and sometimes they would suggest a cheaper pair. I think they were honestly trying to help to pick out the pair that would work the best for the customer. They are a very particular about everything. Sizing, adjusting, she even told me exactly what socks to wear and exactly how tie my skate so that it molds properly to my foot as I wear it in. It was very busy. I waited patiently amongst the child skate prodigies as the sales reps helped others and heated and adjusted my skates. Since there are so many people, and it is a tight space, the staff do have to help multiple people at once, so I had to wait my turn, each step of the way. If you are getting skates fitted, be sure to give yourself a few hours. There is a really good sushi restaurant next-door that I went to all my blades were being sharpened. The skate felt so much better the third time I tried them on, after all the adjustments were made to fit them to me. Honestly, I am so happy that I didn't just buy them off the Internet because I feel like I would've felt bad spending that much money on them if they fit me the way they had originally fit. Because I was at the store, I felt more comfortable buying a skate that came without a blade on it. She sold it to me as a package and put the blade on right there. I didn't have to figure out what blade to buy (she used the same kind as the other skate I liked), or where to get it put together.

Of the many board shops in this area I walked into this one first. I was coming from out of town…read moreand looking for a whole new setup including a snowboard, bindings, boots and bag. When I walked in I felt out of place as most beginner snowboarders probably would feel. It just looked like a small, cramped board shop to me but compared to the other places, I'd take that over the stuffy, boutique type of shops the others seemed to be. Jess at West Coast was very helpful asking me questions to better hone in on what type of equipment would best suit me. She was super informative and didn't pressure me to commit to purchasing anything. In fact, she even told me to go to the other shops in the area to compare equipment and pricing. Pretty ballsy but it made me feel at ease right away. I went to all the other shops and no one made me feel comfortable about being there. Very few questions and assistance. Instead it almost felt like they were uptight because I may not have looked like a typical snowboarder. Needless to say I went back to West Coast and bought the lot, about $1500 worth of equipment. Then I put it to use going up to Whistler the next four days and loved every second of it. The board (Bataleon Goliath) performed great and my feet felt perfect throughout every run. Lastly, I would've given them 5 stars but the person helping my girlfriend with her ski boots was unknowledgeable and not a very big help to her. If you do go to this place go see Jess. There was another Aussie guy behind the counter that was giving his input and helping me out as well but I didn't catch his name. Mahalo, K

I'm going the full 5-stars on this place after spending a day with a friend shopping for snowboard…read moregear. We did the entire 'snowboard alley' of W 4th and this place had by far the best deals. Not only were the prices better to begin with, they also carried more classic styles and colours in jackets and pants that suited my friend's fashion tastes. The staff were really helpful picking out a snowboard that was a great price, European-made and would last him for years. The graphics were pretty sweet, too. The board was freshly waxed and they set it up with the bindings in-store. In addition to already low prices and some sale items, the staff cut my friend a deal since he was buying a bunch of gear. It was the cherry on top! This shop also has non-snow-related sporting gear on the second floor.
