The newest AYCE kbbq place with a decent dinner price of $28. Includes good beef, pork options with chicken, squid, shrimp and clam. The meat quality was very good. They also had 3 types of kimchi, (?) Radish silvers, fresh kimchi and slightly ripe kimchi. The kimchi was just okay. Some of the other sides included fried rice, rice, donkatsu, amongst others. You have to ask for the pettuce wraps. Ice cream is also available for $1.50. I got the mango but it was the melona mango so I wasn't too crazy about it. The volcanic grill was nice and big so all of us got a slice of the grill. It can get pretty hot though so be careful. I would advise against clam since i think my whole group got an upset stomach from it. Service was pretty good. Servers were attentive and cleaned our grill often. read more

Very solid AYCE Korean BBQ place. Although they don't have the ever popular Galbi (beef short ribs) on the menu, but their variety of other cuts of beef, pork, chicken and seafood would satisfy even the most discerning carnivores. The banchan selection isn't that extensive, albeit that it is a buffet and what they do offer isn't too bad (potato salad, kimchi, steamed egg and others that you can order that are included in the buffet). I recommend starting out with the meats and proteins that aren't marinated(brisket, hanger steak, thick cut pork belly) so that you can appreciate the flavor of meat, as the quality of ingredients is quite good. Next, move onto the more flavorful cuts (rib eye steak, pork galbi, pineapple steak). Since these meats have been flavored with sugary marinades, they tend to dirty your grill, so it's best to cook the plain proteins first (pro tip!). All in all, this was my second time here, and I was very satisfied; it won't be my last! See you soon Gorilla Grill! Incredibly rude employees. Came at 5 pm when there were zero customers. Asked to be seated and an employee did not communicate what was going on. He just told us to wait. A couple of minutes later I saw him just take a seat with other employees and begin eating. No explanation as to what was going on, what the status was, how much longer it would be, or what the hold up was. When I asked if the restaurant was open, I got cursed out by the manager. This is while I was holding my toddler. No sense of customer service or professionalism at all. A simple, polite explanation or apology could have resolved things but instead they chose to curse, be combative, and lack proper communication skills. Really good place for ayce kbbq, although some items on the menu are lacking. The brisket, beef belly, thin sliced pork belly, and clams were great. Brisket and beef belly had nice fatty flavor and with just a pinch of salt it was remarkably satisfying. However, the new menu item, pineapple steak, was too sweet and had an awkward texture that was mushy. The buffet is pretty unique and they have the classic cold noodles to go with the bbq, and the kimchi stew is alright. Everything else we tried seemed pretty much on par with the other kbbq spots in this area at around the same price. Me and my friends have been going to cast iron pot quite a few times so we decided to try this place instead. I really dig their clams and thin pork belly. However, their steak and LA galbi were tough to chew. The bacon wrapped enoki mushroom was a little bland def needed more seasoning in it. The buffet area was relatively decent. Def try out their fried potatoes, fried chicken wings, and fried rice. Make sure to check in on yelp as well you get a free can of soda! Food is good, but im not sure if i dig the purpose for volcano cook top. Pricing point is higher than their competition cast iron. Pros: they do get seafood options. Who doesn't love AYCE KBBQ?! Gorilla Grill is literally as good as it gets. It located on a pretty busy street, parking is available via a small parking lot and street parking. The store front is medium sized with probably 20+ tables with a full size bar with surprisingly great prices. Food 2/2 They offer a wide variety of meats from ribeye, hanger steaks, to pork belly, chicken and some selected seafoods. We decided to try to ribeye and hanger steaks, LA galbi, pork belly, soy garlic squid and the shrimp. The quality of freshness of the meat is superb. My favorite though was definitely the ribeye, LA galbi and soy garlic squid so flavorful! Accompanied with the sauces they give you, no complaints. However, I could go without the shrimp, there was not much flavor to it, very plain, could have much used a marinate. The buffet bar though! I 100% consumed 1 lb of radish and kimchi that evening. The kimchi was so refreshing and SPICY! Soooooooo amazing. Service 0.75/1 The service was good, not great. I loved the fact that they offer you a big plastic bag to hold your jacket and sweater so it doesn't smell, INGENUIS. And my clothes definitely, not one bit smelt afterwards. The staff was very nice, but I felt as though they were attending so many tables so our table kind of got forgotten then our food burned cause we didn't know how to turn off the burner! After that, it got TOO attentive, we had someone come every 2 minutes. LOL! Price 2/2 This KBBQ is a bit pricey than other AYCE places around the area, but to be honest, the meat quality was so much better. It was flavorful, juicy and tender. I came back here a couple weeks ago after seeing that they added some more items to the menu (makchang, etc). The beef brisket was good. The pork, beef belly, and makchang were fine but didn't stand out from any other AYCE kbbq spot. The big disappointment was in quality of the ribeye steak and LA galbi. Both of these were very tough to chew - to the point where I didn't want to finish them (can't remember the last time I had trouble finishing ribeye or LA galbi as they are some of my favorites). I guess it's difficult to get better quality and keep it at their AYCE price point, but it leaves the customer with a negative experience. I say either charge a premium additional surcharge for more expensive cuts, or follow Yea Jip's model and put a limit to the # pieces per person for those 2 items - but as I once heard from the owner of a very successful AYCE restaurant in SF...focus on consistent quality and patrons will keep coming. read more

New korean bbq right down the street from Cast Iron. They have Galbi but there is barely any meat. They have a buffet bar for japchae, fried rice, kimchi, bean sprouts, mushrooms. The japchae is amazing and samgyupsal is good. The staff here is attentive and they refill your ssamjang when low. They also have melon bars for additional $1.50. Very clean and the staff is very courteous, helpful, and efficient; they were all ready to serve without us even waiting to ask. Now, that's great service! Menu is great. All the foods are w a flat price which includes a varied selection of beef, pork, poultry, and seafood. I prob tried almost everything on the menu except for the chx. My favorites include, clams, enoki bacon, pork belly, premium steak, spicy and soy garlic steak. But trust, me everything is good! They also have a buffet bar plus a soup station. Of course, I had to have Japchae (can't go wrong w that) and fried rice. I also had the soy garlic chx ( from the buffet), and that was delicious! But I didnt want to overload on that bc I wanted the bbq. The staff did all the work on the grill. They had a diff vent system which directly sucked any smoke, so none gets on your face (unlike most other bbq spots). You also don't leave smelling like a cookout. The drinks was the only thing I didn't order. The prices seemed reasonable, but I stuck to my good ol' H2O. All in all the place is a 5 star. No complaints whatsoever! We were a big party of 7 adults and 3 toddlers and an infant. We came in on Fourth of July and it was decently crowded on one side by the appetizer buffet but our side was empty. We expected to be served pretty quickly but that wasn't the case. We were super hungry so we filled on apps and the meat was cooking slowly and our grills were empty half the time even when we made back to back orders. Overly priced for what you get served. Everything is served super slow even the water! What made this a 1-star review is that one of the kids dropped a popsicle and they still charged us for it. Our bill was $277 dollars but I'm sure they needed to charge more for a dropped popsicle. Horrible. I don't recommend this place for anyone. read more

There are a few essentials when it comes to kbbq for me: 1. Scallions/lettuce to eat along with your meal, 2. Space to lay out all your sauces, uncooked meats, and sides, and 3. the flexibility to cook how I want it. Unfortunately, Gorilla Grill failed to meet all 3 of the above. They cook with a volcanic stone, which seems like a cool concept.. but is more of an inconvenience than anything. This stone takes up 3/4 of the table leaving you with very little space to maneuver. I noticed that no matter how hard I try, my plates were always touching the stone causing them to burn and get hot. It was super evident that this was a common theme because when you get your plates at the buffet, most of them had black burn marks on them- this is just not safe! In addition, the workers not only recommend how you cook your food... but also take control of the entire process. You are not able to place your own meats on the grill as they do it for you. I can see how that may be beneficial, but not when it takes 15+ for someone else to walk by and cook your meats. If you are looking to talk about just the food/meat, then yes, their meat was of good quality and they had a good selection. But not worth all the little inconveniences when there are so many other kbbq spots around the area. read more

For a while now, we've always considered Cast Iron as the gold standard - however this is absolutely gives them a run for their money. Quality and Service are of really great quality - selection includes galbi - which is INCREDIBLE! I have to be tough when reviewing this place because it is located in an area that has an abundance of Korean BBQ spots, let me start by saying the grill they use is pathetic it took 15 min too cook our first batch of meat, not only did it take forever but it's absolutely tiny so if you don't mind waiting for small portions this might be the place for you. As for the food it was decent but I wasn't impressed. Also self serve rice was kinda lazy on their part. We had been there several times before and it was ok. But the last time we went there a few months ago, the guy who was the manager there, was extremely rude and that's an understatement. We ordered like normal and he kept complaining about how much meat we were ordering, it's not like we ordered 20 plates of meat or anything. I love the food here. It's all you can eat. Good selection. But the wait is always so long. Every time we come there's tables, just the process of them getting people to tables takes so long. Then when you finally get a table, you're waiting forever for someone even to come and take your drink order. By the time you wait for a seat & then actually get ordered, it's about an hour later. So for me, there's really no point of coming cause you're always going to have to wait long periods for your food. There's so many people working, they just can't support the amount of people in the restaurant. Even if there's not a lot of people there. Slow, the last 3 times we've been. New AYCE Korean bbq spot that opened; so we had to check it out! They have parking on the side of the building (8 spots?) which is nice since you don't have to feed a meter. Once inside, seating was super quick. Plenty of tables on a Friday night; which was surprising. They have proteins that you can order off of the menu and a buffet bar for sides and other accoutrements. We liked the non marinated beef options on the menu. They tasted fresh and weren't too fatty. They have LA Galbi, which was a nice surprise given how expensive the cut is. However, they were marinated in an overly sweet soy marinade to hide the quality of the meat. The pork options weren't too bad either. Again, stick with the non marinated meats! The pork belly had a bit of a gaminess to it but was alright. The seafood was better than expected. We tried the clams and shrimp which were both good options to finish out our meal. Unlike Cast Iron, they don't have dwenjang or kimchi soups to accompany your meal. There was also a few fruit flies that were flying around the establishment. A couple of them landed on my food, so I just threw them out. With them populating the front; makes you wonder how the back looks like. Overall, I would go back! But I would stick with non marinated beef and seafood as my protein options and call it a night! 2nd time here in about 2 or 3 months. There's some good and bad about this place, and after everything I'd say 3 star is probably most accurate. Cons: 1. If you're looking for great meat quality, this isn't the spot. It's not bad quality, but it's not great either 2. Hot plate arrangement is not good. First time the hot plate was above table level and the oil drain was was also in the way when you were eating. The second time, the hot plate was below table level but the metal part of it is also right by your legs - I ended up with a pretty severe burn right above my knee. 3. Heat control is just not there so the food burns relatively quickly. If you're taking you time to eat, the stuff does burn quickly. Pros: 1. A good variety of bbq items that are pretty different from the other AYCE Korean bbq joints around 2. Service and meat was provided quickly. No real delay in service on a Sunday night dinner at 8pm. Some suggestions: You really should put a cover over the hot area under the table. It is seriously dangerous. Also, there should be some kind of option to ask for vegetables to go with the meat. read more

Granted the server present was doing her best to accommodate, but for a pretty decent sized restaurant where the server is cooking the meats for you tableside, and she has more than 3 tables at a time definitely is tricky. There was another server on the other side by the bar side of the restaurant, but assuming she was swamped as well. We first arrived, sat down ordered our meats (only 3 can be ordered at a time- understand so its less chance of waste). They had a pretty large selection of items to choose from, first round we did the Premium Beef (juicy and flavorful, perfect with the sauce they provide you that has the onions), pork belly (not Overly fatty) and the Enoki wrapped with Bacon (the bacon flavor took over the enokis). We check out the mini buffet they provided, the kimchi selection was the average, but many sides were lacking. Was hoping they would have the bean sprouts, the leaf green salad, or maybe the potato salad. They had two type of fried chicken, which was somewhat stale and dry. When we sat we waited quite a while before the server came to place our meets on the griddle. Then the waiting begins again. Like I noted, the server had to attend to many tables, but when I suggested which I have absolutely no problem doing- that I would cook the meat myself, everyone ignored my request. We were filling up on the buffet before the meat was ready. All in all, I would give the place another try, but probably not anytime soon. No more littleneck clams, which is what brought us here. be sure to ask your server to clean your stone often otherwise it tastes burns from the last dish cooked. but, if they do clean it they use water and scraper that would really cools the stone down. then the stone heats up a really slow so very poor maillard reaction.
