If you're downtown and your stomach is growling-get to Gorgers. I live downtown and have watched the shop open last summer and evolve over the past few months. I like the original subs they've come up with like "Pittsburgh Vegan" and their fish sandwich. I LOVE that they make their own bread fresh everyday, and grow their own herbs and peppers. This winter I have particularly enjoyed the rich chowders, chili and soups. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable considering the freshness of the ingredients and the quality of the food. I would definitely recommend Gorgers for a tasty, filling lunch or dinner to compliment a night on the town. read more

Gorgers is my favorite place to eat in Ithaca. The highlight is definitely the bread- apparently it's made on location and you can tell. I haven't tried the flatbread and don't really ever plan to because the bread is so delicious. The steak, pulled pork, and shrimp sandwiches are excellent. The reason you might hear people say they don't love Gorgers is because it's important to get the right sandwiches here- the chicken and BLT are below average. The french fries are also completely average. Stick to the right sandwiches and you'll agree this place makes some of the best sandwiches. This is the second time I've been to this place, and it's the second day in a row! The first time I got the Banh Mi which was amazing, and today I had the Mushroom and Swiss melt. Also while I was waiting, they started rolling out a batch of french bread. So glad there is a place in Ithaca that has all house made ingredients! Avoid if you're a vegetarian. I got a "hummus" sub, which I found out once I got the sub was a) black bean (?!?!?), b) included some kind of tomato flavor (!?!?!), and c) was so disgusting it made me ill. No warning that it wasn't, you know, normal hummus. They offered to remake the sandwich without it, which would have been bread with lettuce, tomato, and onion. Ambiance didn't help. read more

I go there regularly! They make their own bread and actually care about their sandwiches. They're also really really friendly and take pride in their food, and the location is nice. If you stay, they bring your order to the table with napkins, and if you leave before you finish they'll wrap the rest of your sandwich for you. read more

Sandwiches are large and the bread is really good. I couldn't see it posted on the menu board, but you can get a smaller order as well. I've only had two types of sandwiches - Philly and Cuban -- they have my favorite Cuban sandwich in Ithaca, hands down. Seating isn't great, so I always get my food to go. read more

Great subs for a great price. The soups are really underrated as well. They always have a French Onion, as well as one or two others that change daily. When they saw how quickly I finished my soup, they gave me another bowl for free! Love this place, will definitely be going back. read more

This place is easy to get to, right off the Commons. The Steak & Cheese was so delicious I decided to grab another sandwich to go. If you are interested in spicy food, the Caribbean Fire was fantastic. It was made of fresh chicken and some sort of habanero sauce. Obviously they are just starting out, but I have to say the food makes up for the lack of decor. I am a picky vegan diner, and they went out of there way to provide me with a great custom made eggplant buffalo sub, and some amazing seitan fries with a super hot sauce. Being as i work in downtown Ithaca, i order lunch often. I liked this place so much, i decided to review, something i never do. the place is new and small, so you can expect a little wait if they have many orders, but good food takes time. And they are postiviely receptive to any suggestions. You can sub/change any item on the menu to your own taste, which is something hard to find when eating out unless you like burger king! so if you are a vegetarian, you actually have a fair amount of options and can get pretty creative. The soups are homemade and AMAZING! i have yet to find one i dont like. homemade breads and sauces as well. First off, I don't think this place merits an unfavorable review from people who haven't even eaten here, or to have their menu options written off as "uninspiring" if they haven't been tried. It's also pretty unreasonable to not expect a wait in a place that makes everything fresh, especially if there's a line. As a person who has actually eaten there and understands the concept of having to wait for food made better than that at a greasy fast food joint, I have to say that this is the best sub shop in town. The rolls for the subs are fresh and yeasty, the homemade apple/cabbage coleslaw is divine and the owners are generous and attentive. They asked my friend and me what kind of music we'd like to listen to while we ate and one of them even shared his homemade sriracha sauce with us. The atmosphere is small but cozy with a polished granite eating space and a wall of local low-brow pop art for sale that's delightful to look at and affordable; I took one home with me for 10 bucks. The menu is wonderfully eclectic, with subs topped with everything from Argentinian sauces to elements of French-Vietnamese baguette sandwiches that you can only typically find in bigger cities. The price also can't be beat. Why get a microwaved meatball sub at a chain when you can get a bahn mi or a savory treat topped with a wine reduction for 7 bucks? I hope this place sticks around for a long time and gets due attention! read more
