I was trying to donate some books, clothing, dinnerware and glassware. Everything was carefully packaged up to prevent cracking or breaking of glasses, porcelain and dishes. Clothing and books were somewhat loose, so not a problem. The guy working in the back "accepting" donations, instructed me to unwrap everything and throw them into the marked bins. I told him I have a lot of fragile items and he said, that's just how it goes. They don't have time to go through every box to remove each item. If they break, they go into the trash. He proceeded to ask why I cared if they broke and ended up in the trash anyways, and that I was just getting rid of the stuff. He misses the point of the purpose of Goodwill and the purpose of donations to an organization like this. Without going into this further, I donated the clothing and books to them, but left with my truck load of glassware, dinner sets, china, collectable plates and cups and found a place that truly accepts donations and puts them to good use. More importantly, the volunteer that I spoke to understood the true purpose of donations and what they are intended for. I didn't want these items ending up in the garbage, filling up our landfills here in Simi Valley. These are quality items that could be used to benefit human beings in one way or another. I was put off by a paid employee not caring enough about the mission statement he and the company represents. read more

Destructive labeling. Whoever is labeling the shoes is ruining them. This plastic double-sided T-label is impossible to remove from the shoes because it was simply stuck straight in and the other side doesn't exit anywhere. So now there's a sharp plastic bit sticking out right next to the foot. And for the price too! read more

Like this post if you agree! What has become of Goodwill? They used to be known for their incredibly low prices! While you can still find some affordable items from decent brands, most of their prices now rival those of Ross for used clothing. I was hoping for a big discount at the checkout, but ended up paying almost $70 for just 13 items. I had to remove a few things from my purchase. I have been a regular donor to Goodwill, but now I am considering donating elsewhere where prices are more reasonable. It seems like they are becoming too greedy with their pricing, which is not a good look for a charitable organization. I wish they would return to their old pricing of 50 cents to $1.50 for a top, instead of the current $3.99 to $9.99. It's just outrageous! read more

The prices are ridiculous and the fact that you can't try on clothes anymore, makes it a "no go" for me. I can buy new clothes for about the same price at target, try them on in a dressing room, and have no problem returning them if need be. Why would anyone shop at GOODWILL these days? read more

The employees at this store have always been super nice and helpful. Unfortunately the policies from corporate are not . Aside from the insane prices on most things. They have price stickers with so much glue that they damage some of the items such as books and games. If their is no sticker they are not allowed to sell which I get it for the most part but things like cds are all the same price, I understand they want to track their sales but how is it that their competitors have stickers that accomplish the same thing without damaging the item? It sucks to get home and take a sticker off a book and it tears the cover. I will no longer be donating to goodwill or rounding up for "mission services " read more

I'm not going to address the clutter or mess the store is in, because it has improved a bit, but ever since Sam left, this store has gone down hill, could it be management? i went today, found a great pair of Vans shoes (green) I purchased a similar pair at the SP Goodwill for $5.99 The pair I liked at the Simi store had two tags, one for $6.99 and one for $9.99 and even though that was double what I paid at another Ventura County store, I decided to get them because of the color. The very kind cashier, said he need to get management approval, as he said that a manager (lady) was called over, she examined the $6.99/$9.99 tags as if she was examining a science project, then she told the cashier (again, kind and apologetic guy) that he couldn't sell the shoes and that they'd have to be put away for FORTY EIGHT HOURS before they could be sold again. Guess what? You didn't just lose a sell, you lost two customers! How unbelievably outrageous! I was told policy. Who's the moron that would come up with such a policy? They should be FIRED! And if your store MANAGER can't okay a sell on a pair of canvas shoes, she should be fired too! Are you kidding me? read more

I've been coming here for a long time and they have always been expensive, though it looks like they are under new management. The prices now are Wayyyyyyy too expensive for a second hand place! Also this has to be the only place in Ventura county who won't let you use the restroom. They say if the door is locked that means somebody is inside which is a lie. The main reason I shop at this Goodwill of Simi Valley? Because it's located near the Yolanda's Mexican Cafe where I usually hit the happy hour after shopping. This particular location is jammed with merchandise from furniture to electronics to clothes. Definitely not the most organized of thrift stores but probably the best of Simi Valley. The clothing selection is vast although the rest of the store is mismatched and unorganized for the most part. The prices are fair and comparable to other Goodwills I've shopped at and like other locations there are special days where the entire store is on sale. If you are into going to Yolanda's for happy hour I only recommend shopping BEFORE going to Goodwill. One time I went to happy hour and then I went shopping...the next day I ended up with one hideous hawaiian shirt and a broken clock. Words of Wisdom. read more

Ya know when you move and your find tons of stuff that won't fit into your new pad? (Or when you're wondering WHY you have 30 sets of place mats that you never use?) This is the place to take them! The people working here are very nice and friendly. I'm sure most of them are volunteers and they have really good attitudes for free workers. While there I did check out the store. Some great deals on designer brands if you're willing to look and it looks like the local Target must also donate their items that don't sell here too. Once again, the employees were great and I didn't notice them being disrespectful to any customers. They were very respectful of everyone in the store, even those people who looked homeless. Their professionalism impressed me. I was hoping to find a gem that I could turn into a new DIY project - Design on a Dime inspires me :) But, no such luck. Hello. My name is Chris and I am a thrift store a-holic. It's been 3 weeks since my last Goodwill store visit... If you're like me and cannot drive past a thrift store, then the Goodwill near Pep Boys in Simi is your place. This store in particular has carried some amazing little treasures, which I've carried home and put to good use. There's the numerous pots and vases which I use for planting flowers around my yard. There's also the large steel candle lantern with lots of patina which I use on my patio in the evening with Citronella, to keep the insects away. And don't forget the ugly Christmas sweater I picked up here and lavished with fabric glue, felt and decorations to win first place at our office Christmas party with. As any smart thrift store junky will tell you, shop carefully and never spend outside your comfort zone. The staff at this store have always been extremely friendly and helpful. Whether it's the workers in the back who are accepting your donated items or the cashier accepting your cash. Like most thrift stores, this one has mostly clothing items. I've bought clothes here before, especially jeans, but prefer to pay a few dollars more and get new threads to cover this old body with. Their bric-a-brac is where this store truly shines. There are hundreds of little boxes, candlesticks, clocks, toys, hardware, sporting goods and other things to browse through and it's there where I'm most happy. Some of their items are priced fairly high, such as furniture and bicycles, but the rest is a bargain. Have fun and remember - when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping! read more

Donated an SUV full of electronics, clothing, shoes, purses, home decor, games, books, nick-knacks, etc. The employee at the donation location on the side of the building was rude and surly. When I asked him where we should put the items, he said "read the signs on the bins (he points to his right) and you don't need to ask any questions." Really? The employee insists any fragile items be dumped into the bin as he drops items on top of the fragile items, bending and denting them. He took the ink jet printer we donated and dumped it into a bin upside down with a crash. I told him we had been careful to wrap fragile items so they would be in good shape to sell and he said "they will be fine", as he roughly dropped a heavy item someone else has apparently added to the wrong bin. Again, he was rude and disrespectful with I asked for a receipt. I have a lot more household organization to do and I will NOT be donating anything else here! read more

This Goodwill is awful! I have dropped off items multiple times and every time they are EXTREMELY rude! I brought in a bunch of items to donate the other day and a lady had a few cute barstools that she was donating as well. I was interested in them, and she said I could have them, and the woman at the drop-off said that I could if the lady gave permission, the lady who was donating the barstools said I could have them, and then the same lady changed her mind and then stated no, that they were in the pen area and were now theirs, and that I could speak to the manager to dispute it if I would like. I told her it wasn't necessary, I figured it was a donation that could be beneficial to someone else, and she went and got her manager anyway, who then proceeded to yell stating it was a donation and I could buy them. I told her it's not a problem, everything is fine, and that I would consider buying them at a later date, and then started walking away. The manager continued yelling at me as I was walking to my car. Clearly she wanted to be confrontational. Not interested in that sort of thing. I strongly suggest they invest in better customer service, especially to those who are donating and those who are buying! I will definitely be bringing my donations to a better location! It's unfortunate, but no one needs that kind of service! read more

Another thrift store that I like that has lots of bad reviews. I guess I just am looking for different stuff, as this is a great store for books, records, and cd's. Even a large selection of VHS tapes if you still have an old player that works. Staff has always been nice to me. Avoid on those half off sale days as it gets really crowded and miserable. read more

This is the best Goodwill store I've been in. I always leave with some amazing finds and I rarely leave there empty handed. Compared to the Goodwill across town this one has better deals/finds/customer service. Here dresses are $4.99 each and the other location charges $7.99! The workers are super nice and helpful. Some of them will even give you items for less money if there's a small stain or hole. The one across town won't budge on prices. Defiantly stop into this one when your nearby, you never know what great items you might find! read more

Rude lazy kids work their. We donated 1 full truck and 1 full car full of things. We ask for a basket they gave us 1 it had some stuff in it, but we still used it. We over filled it bring it to the 3 kids working asked for a new basket they said they didn't have one. Ummm really? You lazy kid you have them in the back. And if you had none that were empty then get one of your lazy asses up to help us or the 5 other people trying to donate their stuff at the same time. Do these kids not realize the only reason they get a pay check is because people donate to the company. Learn some respect. I was going to name names but decided I wont put them on blast. Those who love this store buy clothes there. I like everything else, collectibles electronics anything housewares, etc. most of their non-clothes items are salvage and returned items from stores like Kmart and target. I don't know who they think they are, but they price all of those items stamp to salvage and return only about 5% less then you would pay for it brand-new in the store. I have purchased two items that were returns, that they consider brand-new. They were high-priced but I figured they were worth it and I was there. Neither one of the items worked. They really need a wake up call and be told that they are thrift store, they need to give you a better price than what you can get it for on sale brand-new at the store itself. I am an avid thrift store shopper, I know my good thrift stores, and this one is horrible. read more
