As I parked my car by a meter, I debated putting more than a quarter inside said meter for awhile. This is a thrift store--like I'm really going to need more than 15 minutes inside. So I thought my one quarter would do. I walked in and was immediately taken aback as to how organized, clean, and clutter-free this Goodwill was. After 5 minutes, I had at least 10 garments to try on. But, like I said, I only had 15 minutes to shop. I quickly ran to the dressing room to try on my clothes and thought, "Watch these rooms be a mess!" Nope. Clean as a whistle AND all the previous clothes that people had tried on were already put away by the lovely staff (who truly were lovely, helpful, and kind). There weren't racks upon racks of previously tried on clothes as many department stores have let alone a thrift store. As the minutes were counting down I told the dressing room attendant that I needed to put more money in the meter. This place was too good to be true!! I went to the car, threw in a dollar and continued my shopping spree. By the end of my excursion (which did end up lasting over an hour mind you), I ended up with clothes from Banana Republic, French Connection, and Calvin Klein amongst other designer brands. The grand total for 10 shirts/blouses a dress and a picture for the wall -- $48!!!! And they gave me a teacher discount of 10%!! I practically hugged the cashier, but then I looked over to my right. There were 2 huge sections I had missed checking out! Oh well, just means I need to come back soon, and I WILL!! Best Goodwill in town! A gem! read more

This goodwill is pretty good! Lots and LOTS to choose from, and tons of recognizable name brands. My problem with this place occurred when I hit the Jean section. And found a pair of Joes jeans (don't get me wrong, they were in bomb condition and they're name brand) but they were $25.00.....seriously!?!?!? At a freaking Goodwill!?!?!? They're receiving these clothes as donations. So honestly $25.00 for someone's used designer jeans was a little ridiculous. I understand places like buffalo exchange and platos closet charging prices like these (they will give you cash for your clothes then turn around and resell them for more) but GOODWILL!?!?!? I am perplexed that someone gave this location one star - must have hit it on a bad day because I have been to many many thrift stores in my lifetime and this is simply the best one. Not only are the displays worthy of Nordstrom - the store managers pick out the best stuff and bring it here, but still keep it at the regular Goodwill prices. I go once a week with two friends and we always leave with some incredible find for ourselves or our spouses. If you are visiting from out of town - go to the Hillcrest Farmer's market before or after stopping by this gem of a thrift store and then have a beer at the Hillcrest Brewing Co. down the street. read more

Great thrift store for women's clothing items. I made out like a bandit getting several nice dresses for $5-6 each and several nice shirts $3-4 each. I basically got a new summer work wardrobe for $70! The store was clean and has 3 dressing rooms. read more

The store was a WRECK. Even the entry way was messy; clothes on the floor, tangled hangers. The rest of the store was even worse. The houseware section was piles upon piles of stuff and the glasseware looked like someone's overflowing kitchen sink. The clothing racks were jam packed and very unorganized. Some of their clothing racks were so tall, I couldnt see the shoes that were displayed on top of it. Even the employees were yelling across the store and eating on the sales floor. I know it's a new store, but jeez. Although I love San Diego Goodwill's new retail appearance, I doubt I'll go out of my way to visit this location again. read more

New favorite Goodwill! And I take Goodwill very seriously, haha. This place is well organized, clean, and FULL of designer duds that you can buy for a good cause. The staff is nice and helpful as well. They have a small section of housewares, current hardback and paperback books, but no real furniture because it's a small store. But the clothes here are relatively high end,and the designer jeans etc are somewhat separated from the regular labels. I found a Brandy Melville shirt for 3.99 and Old Navy white skinny jeans for $6. Unfortunately the Vans red jeans and the True Religions didn't fit :( And even with those prices, the staff asked me if I qualified for one of their discounts, hehe, so as a student I got 10% off. And I felt good about spending money on something trendy like white jeans. Love this store! read more

This it the best Goodwill I've ever been to. The place is clean. It's orderly. It doesn't smell and it has air conditioning! The selection is great and so is the clothing, very organized. I don't go to Goodwill too often because sometimes their prices can be high. Or so they say. But recently the Baras Thrift Store in Hillcrest closed so here I was on a Tuesday around lunch time. I got some pretty sweet picks for moi and the prices were decent. Some of the items I picked up had price tags so that was a plus. There was a friendly security guard at the entrance that made things feel safe, so that's a plus when you're thrifting, which is less these days because there's sadly not enough in San Diego. Many folks around town including myself need more thrift stores to not only shop at but donate to. I've got some nicer things that I don't need but sometimes it's hard to find a place you can find let alone trust to donate stuff to. Goodwill accepts donations outside this small shop on University Ave. during certain hours but ALWAYS accept donations during operations. While browsing and shopping a young fella donated bags of clothes and he said, "I just didn't want to throw them away!" - good for him! I agree. So moral of the story is reduce, reuse and recycle. On a side note I wish they would give their employees raises, that seems like a tough job to do but a close friend and former employee of Goodwill said that it wasn't the best place to work. I sure hope that changes because it's sad when corporations get too greedy. Everyone deserves a wage they can live off, especially in this town. read more

This place is ok but if there is an item they know is trendy. The price raises 20% when it's tommy or a name brand. They need to price to move like Mira Mesa. It's something cause you need your discount here. I notice the girl did not ask to see school I'd of another customer. I always get asked for mine no matter how many times I show it. I mean the other lady may have needed it more but wow. One policy for all. I hate this stuff. It's a goodwill though and I support them. If they think got a sell the price goes up. I will limit my buts here to steals. If you have a heart and are like well it is for good cause like I did you will get got. They are as sells driven as macys. They raise the price then the item ends up in a palate in otay on auction. I am like sell it for what it's worth and you will not have to cut workers hours. read more

This has to be one of the best Goodwill's ever, hands down!!! This is my particular go to store when ever I am in Hillcrest.. I think there has only been one time so far, I did not find anything. They really have the best stuff in town. I found a great summer Roxy dress new with tags for $14.99 and it is my favorite. Even my BF was shocked when I took him once and he found some shirts for him self.. I have yet to try the one in La Jolla but this store has a great selection and nice customer service. I highly recommend anyone to try this store to find a few gems and treasures for your self. :) read more

Needed something for one of the kiddos, and only had 5 minutes in this store. Can't wait to go back when I have more time to shop for me. Love this location love this store I'm always finding cute house items here candles, plates, art, mirrors,flower vases and more at a great price. Right down the street from another thrift store and dinning restaurants. Employees are nice and helpful my daughter is always finding cute little things as well wallets toys and books. The displays are done very well. There is lots of inventory, so lots to choose from. The big negative is how they handle their clothing. Rather than separating sizes by color, all sizes are mixed together by color. I don't have the time and patience to go though every other size looking for my size--too time consuming and overwhelming. So I just skip the clothing. If a person has a lot of time on their hands, then it works for them--but not me. read more

I love this Goodwill. My girlfriend and I walked to this store to check it out. We both found some great clothes. This place was clean, organized, the staff was extremely friendly, and the best part was the clothing selection. I found a tailored black blazer for 7.99. We both ended up leaving with spent less than $30 and got a variety of blazers, jeans, workout tops, and dresses. I definitely will be going back and would recommend this place to anyone! read more
