A pretty large store for the location of it. Wasn't expecting to keep going deeper to find more. While I don't usually have luck here with clothing or accessories, I love my home goods and electronics finds here. I typically always find a gem during my visits. I love this goodwill! We always find amazing stuff! I personally think the men's stuff is better, even though there's less of it. But there are so many good items crammed into such a small space. Super fun just walking along University Ave in the Hillcrest neighborhood to shop at this Goodwill. Though smaller than other Goodwill stores I've known, it has a decent selection especially of men's sweaters and ties. The changing rooms are finally open again which is super helpful. They have teacher, student, military, and senior discounts on top of their already reasonable thrift store prices. When I get the discount at this place, I notice that they don't ask you if you want to round up. But I just checked out today, on August the 14th, and it was a tall black gentleman. And he gave me my discount just to ask me if I wanted to round up. And he literally took the discount away. The discount was 60 cents. And then he asked me if I wanted to round up for some job program or something like that. And then I had to give the damn discount away. Don't ask people if they want to round up if they got a discount. You gave them the discount because they needed it. ** DON'T GO AND TAKE IT FROM THEM. WEIRDO.** Yes, of course, I understand that you can say no. But you already know what I'm referring to. You understand why people often don't say no. I just find it strange. I thought it was nice to know that when I received the discount, I wasn't pressured. It was the first time I got a discount and felt pressured. Okay, whole separate thing. I asked about dog clothes. They said, "it's in the same basket with the baby clothes." My mouth dropped open a little and I gasped (though I don't think she noticed) Just something about the dog stuff being with the baby stuff struck me as... hilarious. I went back there, started digging through, and was just about ready to give up until I started finding some pieces. But honestly, it felt like a full-on scavenger hunt. Customer service was some of the worst I've ever experienced. Cashier ID 17161 refused to give us the student discount because my kids, who were present, weren't " starving college students." She continued to be rude the entire encounter. I heard her telling another customer she's the highest level and no one is above her there, which is terrible because she needs education on customer service. read more

Finally, a Goodwill store (in the greater SD area) with decent prices! Seriously though, I think this is my favorite GW store, ever. Good store had many products. However, the store is too small to fit over 50 people. I went in and not many people were in the store. However, once my parents arrived, the store became overcrowded. It was hard to walk down aisles and to get to the register. Customer service was good. Staff was very friendly. How can I not give this goodwill 5 stars after finding $150 jeans for $7.99 here?! My out of town cousins were wanting to go thrift shopping so we headed to Hillcrest with a list of vintage shops to peruse. This was our 1st stop and we all agreed it was the best priced and very well organized of all the vintage shops in the area. I didn't even need any clothes but decided to take a quick gander. Now I plan on bringing my friend and my mom back here as I know they will find some great finds. It appears super small upon entering but is actually a large space as it keeps going further in the back. They even have an entire golf/sports section of clothing. I can see why this is an amazing goodwill to some. It's neatly organized, clean, fitting rooms and alot of high-end brands that have alot of life left and VERY affordable. Never donate to Goodwill. It's a business and not a non-profit. They make millions & Zero donations to anybody or anything in America. I give my stuff to Salvation army, Father Joe's . Some things to consider if you're debating whether to visit this location: Parking is terrible during weekends and the afternoon. There is street parking with meters and it VERY heavily policed by meter maids. There is free parking close by at the Trader Joe's with a parking garage. I recommend parking there and then walking across the street. The prices here are high. Higher than average even for San Diego goodwills. If you're visiting from out of state, you might be shocked. They've gotten higher just in the last few years alone. Most clothing has a "boutique" price slapped on it. I'd say at least HALF the clothing in the racks had a boutique price on it which meant it was between $10-$50!!! dollars. These are the same brands you'll find in most of the other goodwills around the area. I used to find many amazing gems here, but they've definitely become much more conscious about looking things up and hiring pricers in the back who recognize brands. I pretty much stopped coming here for that reason. The store is small but very full of inventory. It can be straight up claustrophobic when it's busy inside. If you are bothered by people in your personal space then I'd recommend going during the week and avoiding the weekends. There is just not enough room inside when it gets busy. I've gone with people who had to excuse themselves and go wait outside because there's just too many people trying to walk around inside the store. Overall.... I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this location. The father joes down the street is way better. If you're visiting San Diego and already in hillcrest then maybe see what you can find. If you're looking for an authentic thrift experience... this ain't the store. It's in a very trendy area and they do get some cool donations, just keep your expectations low as far as getting a great deal on them. read more

I came to this Goodwill after getting my clothes repeatedly rejected from Buffalo Exchange. I walked in here very impressed by how clean and organized this store was. I came in to donate the clothes I couldn't sell and it was such a ridiculously difficult process just to give my clothes away. The lady at the register was about 135 years old and was very rude. I told her I wanted to donate 2 bags of clothes. It couldn't be as simple as that. She started to ask a bunch of questions. Do you need a receipt?! Are there any electronics in here?! Are you sure you want to donate these?! Are you sure you don't want a receipt?! Uh... just take the damn clothes and stop asking questions. It's people like me, giving you stuff to sell. Aside from George Washington's grandmother asking me 50 questions when I'm just trying to get rid of some clothes, the store was immaculate and super clean. I wouldn't mind buying some cool gems in here. 4/5 stars. read more

This is the higher end Goodwill, meaning more name brands and more costly on some things. This place the most (ratio) items that still have the price tag and/or has more name brand... Or at least it felt like it. More quality clothing items for sure. When I walked in, I thought it was so small, but then I got further in and there's more section to the left, buy still one of the smaller Goodwill out there. I saw a Dooney and Bourke purse and it was meh condition. Front is ok, the back is stained and it was for $39.99. A little too much for a purse, but most items I'd say is reasonably priced. I might go back here again if I'm looking for clothes because it seems to have the cleaner, better quality of clothing than most. read more

Out of all the thrift stores I have been to in San Diego, this is the most organized and arranged. The displays were well arranged and attractive. It wasn't just just rows and rows of clothes where it can feel overwhelming. With thrift stores I know it's hit or miss so I can't really judge a store by if I can find anything I want or fit. However, their selection was big and their prices low. The clothes hanging on the displays looked clean. I The clothes selection was good. The selection for housewares wasn't as big but it was well organized with sets taped together. The selection for books and dvds was small - one shelf each. The main negative for this Goodwill store is the location. You have to be patient to find parking. We almost gave up after going around the block three times but finally found a spot. read more

So I went on indeed looking for employment. I saw Goodwill in La Mesa Blvd. I saw two positions that that were open, so I applied at that location waited a couple days and then I called and asked to speak to a manager of the store. The manager (Kayla) told me that the ad was old and that they were not hiring at all. She gave me a number to the person who does the hiring I think HR or somebody so I called there, and that lady told me that she doesn't do any of that but it's all up to the store manager and that I should go on their actual website because that would be more accurate if they were hiring or not which I told her that's where I went on your website and filled it out she pretty much told me she didn't know what to tell me and that lady told me that she doesn't do any of that but it's all up to the store manager. however I withdrew my application and I don't think I'll ever apply there again because I apply there as well. This is one of the nicest Goodwill I've been to. It is clean and organized. My friend and I enjoyed shopping for home decor stuff here..tons of selection! The only downside is that it is quite difficult to find a parking spot. Other than that, great Goodwill! Very nice and clean. read more

WORST Goodwill I think I've ever been to! I'm an avid thrifter, so I was excited to be in a new city to shop! Unfortunately however, THIS shop was a nightmare. 1- the parking is AWFUL. there's literally like 3 spots to park, and they are all always full. Good luck! 2- the employees there are NOT friendly or helpful. No one greeted me. The cashier was rude and unapologetic (for the extreme wait in line - even though I was the SECOND person in line). 3- the store is small and has mostly crap. NOTHING good. 4- there's bums literally EVERYWHERE outside. Be careful if you're a woman and/or going at night. I will NOT be returning here to this location. read more

Came here with a friend was surprised by the size. Upon entering it looks incredibly small but then you look around and realize it just keeps on going. I really appreciate how organized it is but i do wish they had a larger men's section. Not deducting stars though because maybe it's just because they don't get many donations of men's clothes. I ended up only finding a jacket but I did arrive later in the day which is usually when most of the cute stuff is gone. But I'm super glad I found this place and will be returning soon. I haven't been in the store but it is super easy to drop off donations! Be sure to drive to the ally behind the Goodwill and there will be someone to take your bags. There were two cars ahead of me dropping items off and I was still out in less than three minutes. I'll continue to bring my donations here. read more

The most clean & organized thrift store I have ever been to. Everything is so clean & organized it doesn't even feel like a thrift store - it feels like a boutique! Clothes are organized by color so it's easy if you're looking for something particular. This store is pretty small, but it makes shopping that much more efficient (esp for people like me who get lost in the pool of stuff most Goodwill stores have!) The staff here is great. I only picked up a Brand New Men's Banana Republic (Grey Suit), a Navy Blue Ralph Loren Polo Sweater, and Earth tone Armani Exchange Slim-Fit button-up, and Traditional Searsucker Men's Blazer, but what do I know? The staff is very courteous and they each offer you a warm smile which goes a ways to make you feel welcome. This place is deceptively small upon entering. You may find color coded, well positioned, and neatly organized clothing or wares while milling about. Keep walking forward and you will notice the clean and bright fitting rooms located on the back wall (with full doors and adequate vanity mirrors inside). The perimeter of the store (2nd room), and a small back room houses odd items which others have mentioned in their posts. However, wait-for-it... turn to your immediate left and you are greeted with rows of clothing which is clearly where the action is. People in Hillcrest know how to dress and this location is merely a testimony of that fact. This is simply the best Goodwill ever, but you don't have to take my word for it. I don't normally like to shop at Goodwill, but my friend wanted to search for Halloween costume pieces. This is probably the nicest Goodwill I have been to. The shop is clean, the selection is high quality, and the staff is super nice. Shout out to Priscilla, who suggested more items based on what we bought while we were checking out... now THAT is customer service! I want to come back to shop decor pieces because they have some cool stuff. I just bought an awesome masquerade ball mask. I am thoroughly disgusted by the lack of compassion and grace of this goodwill. I have donated tons of high end designer clothes there from Chloe, Barney's NY, LAMB, BCBG to name a few over the years to this specific shop. Probably over 50 garbage bags of things by me alone over the years. My whole family has supported goodwill our whole lives, my step sister sustains her business on it for the last 30 years. Over the summer I was looking to come shop and I was alone with my 3 year old and 1.5 year old sons. My older son is diagnosed with autism and global development delay. I keep a copy of his official diagnosis on my phone. He is exempt from wearing a mask bc his issues are sensory and he cannot have that on his face, he will freak out. It was a hot day, we waited on the line complying rules to get in. When it was our turn the girl at the door said my son couldn't enter without a mask. I told her his situation and said I had a copy of his diagnosis. She got the manager who still denied me. My son clean has a disability. And then he got upset and started melting down which sent my 1.5 year old into a meltdown. The whole situation was so upsetting. First of all it is illegal to make someone with that diagnosis wear a mask and it is illegal to deny us entry. I've waited awhile to write this review thinking the feelings would go away but my voice needs to be heard. It is an absolute shame. I will never shop there, donate there or give them my business again. They only got one star bc I had to give that. You should be so ashamed of yourselves! read more
