DO NOT BE A CONSIGNOR
with them. I did business with them for many continuous years, since just after they opened, and on no less than five (FIVE!) separate occasions, co-owner Zoe casually back-handed me a piece of custom, hand-made art that they had broken with a casual, "oh, you can fix this, right?".
Don't be fooled by her smiley, flirty, hippie demeanor.
There was a consistent pattern of disrespect for my pieces for the entire time I was a consignor with them, but I kept my mouth shut most of the time because they seemed like nice people and my stuff sold OK there.
She even admitted to wearing a jewelry piece out to a party and carelessly, drunkenly breaking it. Needless to say, not part of our consignment agreement. My pieces, made of hand-carved cabochons, one-of-a-kind natural & organic materials that are not interchangeable (have you ever seen a rattlesnake with two rattles?), are all of-a-piece, and not "fixable" if you drop or smash them. I kept swallowing my disappointment for the sake of maintaining a good business relationship.
Pieces that took multiple hours to make were handed back to me with nothing more than a "this one broke" and a shrug. *Not* an offer to pay for it. And I should note that this pattern of breakage does not occur at any of the other shops where I consign. Hours & dollars down the drain.
More than once I went by for a goodwill check-in, only to find my inventory stored (poorly) in the back, and not even offered for sale. Additionally, one time I couldn't find a hat with a delicate shell ornament until I located it simply crammed into a wooden box with other items, essentially guaranteeing that it would be broken, which it was. And again, not "fixable".
I spend hours of meticulous work on my craft, and was flabbergasted at how my pieces were treated.
Even further: when I would visit to bring in new inventory to swap out for old, I found every time, that, without exception, pieces were consistently mis-priced. Hard to fathom how, as I wrote out each inventory sheet myself with detailed descriptions of each piece and was careful to go over them with the owner to make sure there was no confusion before I left.
Then, next, I offered them a golden income opportunity to expand our relationship by their being the sole local vendor for my vintage sign letters, which is simply a hand-over-fist money-making deal. After we had agreed upon our arrangement and the inventory was in their hands, she then repeatedly tried to assume that she could unilaterally re-negotiate the terms via "oh, I've got a business to run" emails -- as though I don't?
So I finally got fed up, called it quits, and went and picked everything up. On this final occasion, fully 50% of the jewelry pieces were mis-priced.
Bottom line: wolf in sheep's clothing. Seem nice & kindly, but are absolutely untrustworthy. Doesn't seem as if it's outright villainy so much as a combination of indifference, incompetence, and sneakiness.
Snakeoil.
Again, spend your money here if you want, but know that you are not supporting people of integrity. But at least co-owner Lee's a nice, smiley guy with good vibes, man, so there's that.
