I am thoroughly disgusted by the lack of compassion and grace of this goodwill. I have donated tons of high end designer clothes there from Chloe, Barney's NY, LAMB, BCBG to name a few over the years to this specific shop. Probably over 50 garbage bags of things by me alone over the years. My whole family has supported goodwill our whole lives, my step sister sustains her business on it for the last 30 years. Over the summer I was looking to come shop and I was alone with my 3 year old and 1.5 year old sons. My older son is diagnosed with autism and global development delay. I keep a copy of his official diagnosis on my phone. He is exempt from wearing a mask bc his issues are sensory and he cannot have that on his face, he will freak out. It was a hot day, we waited on the line complying rules to get in. When it was our turn the girl at the door said my son couldn't enter without a mask. I told her his situation and said I had a copy of his diagnosis. She got the manager who still denied me. My son clean has a disability. And then he got upset and started melting down which sent my 1.5 year old into a meltdown. The whole situation was so upsetting. First of all it is illegal to make someone with that diagnosis wear a mask and it is illegal to deny us entry. I've waited awhile to write this review thinking the feelings would go away but my voice needs to be heard. It is an absolute shame. I will never shop there, donate there or give them my business again. They only got one star bc I had to give that. You should be so ashamed of yourselves! read more

Been shopping at this Goodwill since returning to San Diego. Employees are fantastic and I have bought some great things; however, I have found that the manager definitely treats their customers differently. My observation is that she follows company policies for some customers and ignores company policy for others. Unfortunately, I cannot tolerate any form of discrimination and will not be shopping at this Goodwill again. read more

I didn't think much of this Goodwill since it's so small... until I got a hell of a deal on an espresso maker. I was considering that very model, which was $80-$100 new, and $30-$40 on Craigslist. This Goodwill had it for $13.99, and I'm now enjoying amazing espresso drinks on the daily! I always make sure to pop in here anytime I'm in the area in case I can find some hidden gems. This store is much bigger inside than it looks from the outside, because they busted down a wall and expanded to the back of the building. They got a lot of stuff to fit in the space. Customer service was fine. Parking is difficult to find, since it is Hillcrest. read more

The good in my opinion: Good quality at really good prices. Banana Republic sweaters (brand new) 7 bucks. They also seem to organize by color scheme which can be helpful. The bad: it's not organized by sizes, so you have to sift through the clothes which takes time and it's pretty dusty in there. I began sneezing and having a runny nose within 10 mins of being there. I don't have as good luck with finding clothes at this location compared to others but have gotten a wonderful selection of paintings, kitchenware, and accessories from this store! I managed to redecorate all the common areas in my house for a very reasonable sum and get lots of compliments for having such a well coordinated space. This Goodwill rivals any I've seen,in fact, it appears to be a high end vintage store rather than a Goodwill store. Yet, the items are on the cheap, but in no way are looking so! That, is because it has been completely redone, stocked with items that are in sell-able condition and, staff that dress like they are not working in the stereotypical Goodwill store too. Isles are stocked, color balanced (that's retail lingo, I learned in retail going to college), organized and although they didn't have what we were looking for at the time for Yelp Rocks the Boat Elite Event San Diego in June 2014, we sure know where to go for other things that other stores are lacking of on a general scale Now, this Goodwill may not be huge, but it is large enough to to display items without you getting lost in blue jeans & Bunny Slippers or, dragging a sales rack behind you like a piece of toilet tissue on the bottom of your shoe! Used to find all kinds of gems here for bargain thrift store prices. I guess goodwill now feels they can charge buffalo exchange prices which is completely absurd. With in the past few weeks, this location has dramatically raised prices. Designer men's shirts such as brooks brothers or Hugo boss used to always be marked $6-10. Now same shirts are marked $20 to $25. You are goodwill for goodness sake, a thrift store. Used clothing sold marginally cheaper than brand new clothing from Nordstrom Rack. No thanks read more

The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because the store was very clean and organized. I was incredibly disappointed with my experience. My partner and I were excited to stop here before heading to the airport. We asked the worker at the door if we could leave our bags somewhere so we could shop hands free. She directed us to the worker at the checkout. The woman saw our bags and immediately told us they don't take donations. No greeting or any hint of good customer service just an assumption that turned me off. I was ready to go after that, but in an effort to make me feel better my partner asked the same woman if we could put our things behind the counter. It still seemed like she thought we were asking about donations. I would have been okay with a no, but answering without listening is poor customer service. I came across this specific Goodwill because my boyfriend and I had just cleaned out our closet and wanted to donate some bags of clothes. I am VERY HAPPY we choose Goodwill. Dropping off our donation was easy! I just went to the back of the store, someone came out to help take the bags from me, and they even gave me a receipt! They were all very helpful and friendly! This also goes for all the staff inside the store too! Inside the store is very organized and nicely decorated! I found a very beautiful vintage jacket that ended up being $11 with my student discount! Overall definitely going back! read more

Definitely the best Goodwill that I've ever been to. It's clean, organized, and best of all, doesn't smell weird. It's actually a bit on the smaller side, but still offers a good selection of stuff. I stopped by for some snow gear before a family trip to the mountains. As I knew we'd only be hitting the bunny slopes/sledding, I didn't want to spend a ton of money. My husband and I both found ski pants, $30 total! Great finds without breaking the bank. read more

This Goodwill location only opened a couple months ago, and it is sparkling. Clean, well-lit, reasonably well-organized, and obviously very cheap. The selection for women is decent - I found a few nice mid-tier labels (J Crew and its ilk), and all the items I saw were in quite good condition. I suspect all this will change as it's in business longer and starts to become grungier, so go now and enjoy the closest thing to luxe thrift store that you will find. 10% student discounts, and they also sell some housewares and electronics, but mainly clothes. read more

Seen one goodwill, seen them all. They all look the same and have about the same pricing. Nothing much really stands out about this one, except maybe the pricing wasn't consistent. Some of the prices were outrageous and some were super cheap. I bought my husband a really nice, like new QuickSilver jacket for $6.99 (score!) but then I saw some other random brand, old looking jacket for $12.99. I wondered who prices these things. Glad I found a good jacket though. They have lots of over priced purses, some reasonable clothes and a very small section of toys. They do not have a private parking lot, you have to use the meters out side. I gave them 3 stars because my visit wasn't stellar, but it wasn't bad either. Horrible, horrible, customer service at this goodwill location. My family and I are constant shoppers in this specific location for many years and there have been many times where we have been treated extremely rude by the employees, but today's experience was enough. I work in a fast paced customer service job and treating customers with no such dignity is completely out of my will. I'll be starting off with with the manager Alicia, older lady with glasses and boots. My mom and aunt have described to me several instances where she has been extremely disrespectful and today was not the first time that I have witnessed it in person. About a month ago she seemed to be in a rush and said "right behind you", pushing my mom out of the way. We questioned ourselves where her manners were? Her pride was too much for her to not say "excuse me". We feel immensely uncomfortable shopping whenever she's working because our presence seems to bother her and it shows in her demeanor. She looks at us as if we are going to steal items from the store. Isabella the cashier, a younger tall woman is utterly aggressive when scanning the items. The tone in her voice was very rude when she was speaking to my mother. She was arguing back and forth with us about an item she claimed they "mistakenly priced". If an item has a certain price on it, it is common sense to sell it for that price considering the fact that they made the mistake and not the customers. After putting the item for showcase I am aware it is final price. As she called Alicia over, she was also arguing back and forth with my mother in front of other customers, naming and yelling at us "exploitative people". The other manager, younger guy in his thirties, long hair is one of the only employees I genuinely feel comfortable shopping around. He always puts customers first and is such a sweetheart. Bless his life and I hope he gets a raise. On the other hand, Alicia and Isabella, I send you blessings my way, but the way you treat others is only a reflection of yourselves. They both need better training or a new job because we BUY things out of our own pockets, not steal them, and therefore there is no absolute reason to treat customers so poorly and with low grace. I feel sorry for their coworkers because they seem to bring such a negative vibe in their workplace. Awesome prices and steals, however if you want a pleasant experience, I do not recommend this store!!! read more

My sis and i were in san diego for the weekend from LA and we found super nice clothes! Found a Macys dress with the tag still on for 12.99! Original price was 65.99. Over all, the have the plus sizes seperated and everything color cordinanted like a usual goodwill. Next time we are in town, we are coming back! read more

I used to love always going here to find name brands at a good price. I decided to go yesterday and only left with one dress at a reasonable price. They started to raise their prices so I was very hesitant to get some items that I was hesitant about. With more people finding out about this Goodwill, I believe it was pretty picked over and finding gems is definitely a lot harder now. Cleanly Goodwill store with some good finds. Sometimes items are priced steep. They do carry brand names. Not just items people drop off as garbage disposal like most locations. Could just use some dusting and pledge more often. I'm allergic to dust and it tends to set off my allergies. But like all thrifting, deals are a hit or miss. (: read more

This Goodwill is a little more cramped/smaller than others, but that didn't prevent me from finding lots of deals! I read some of the reviews referring to their stuff being priced higher than other Goodwills. I think this is due to the fact that the whole right hand side/front of the store is their "Boutique" section (which they have at all Goodwills), where things are priced higher than their "regular" items. I bought a pair of brand new heels in the boutique section for $10, which is standard, and another pair of heels for $15 which is normally a little more than what I pay. I figured this was because it was "boutique". When I went, the store was clean and organized and the staff was friendly (The cashier was greeting every single person that walked into the store). The parking gods were with us on Saturday and we scored a metered spot right in front of the store (2 hour parking everyday except Sundays/After 6PM). read more

Nicest goodwill that i have ever been to. The staff was super friendly and even stayed open a few minutes extra so I wouldn't have to rush my purchases. The mannequins in the front of the store were changed while we were there and their displays looked just as good as a department store. I got 5 books, a briefcase and a suit suitcase all for $30. Wow, just wow. I just visited 4/6/14 and bought some really amazing things. I have not always had good luck with Goodwill stores but this one is a hidden gem. They really try to keep up with appearances in the neighborhood and they sell quality items there. If you wear a size 16+ on women, they have a lot for you there. 38+ for men, same. I bought a beautiful, brand new looking micro suede recliner for $40 and they had a lot of other pieces there as well! They give a 10% if you are student,military or senior. read more

This Goodwill is a bit on the small side, but has a really great clothing selection. Parking can be hard, but usually not too much of a problem. Goodwill Hillcrest is not as big as other similar stores; however, it's clean, and the employees (at least the ones I've dealt with) know how to treat customers. Case in point: Last night, two employees went above and beyond what they had to do. I didn't catch both of their names, but the one I had initial contact with was Alex. He's a good guy. I appreciate good service, especially after the bad experience I had at a competing thrift store down the street. Goodwill might charge a little more than some other secondhand stores, but what they sell seems to be in better condition. When I walk in, I feel as if I'm in a newer retail store and not a thrift store. Since the store is located in Hillcrest, it's a bit challenging to find parking, but if you're already in the area, it's definitely worth dropping by. read more

I come here a lot to donate and I like the place. The workers are always friendly and happy to help you. There is usually a decent amount of people shopping as well. The only issue I always have is finding parking, I had to drive round the block last time and illegally park to run in for a minute. read more
