"Good"will??? Seriously? More like Greedwill!! The blatant overpricing directive, no doubt from some profit driven robber baron "manager", regional or otherwise... non-profit??? Wrong!!! It's become disgusting!!! For example, this USED and open can of tennis balls, which cost roughly $3 anywhere. One small example, though if at Goodwill, the change in the last year or so... is obvious... No justification, none...

This is my favorite goodwill location in the Twin cities metro. I have found some of my best thrift finds here. 10/10 recommend.

Fun stuff. Good prices. Not as marked up as other goodwills- I guess it pays to thrift in rich neighborhoods!

This may be the last of the breed. A true COMMUNITY CLUB!…read more Member supported, and old school as heck! Membership is truely open to all, whether you live nearby or not, and dues are affordable ($50 family, more or less for individuals at various levels). It just really needs more people involved. Like, NOW! They host line dancing lessons a couple times per week, and (rarely), other social evnets that are open to the public. Mostly, it's just a large green space and rental hall, these days. I've been to a couple weddings here and a company picnic, and it's really a VERY nice set up. The ballroom has a large dance floor, a stage, small bar, and plenty of room for tables, then there's another "meeting" room with a long bar and more space, either for a buffet, or seperate event. They have a patio and pavilion right outside, plus a baseball diamond. As I understand it, rental rates are VERY competitive, and while it's far from glam, it's fairly well maintained and easy to decorate to your liking. The large patio, covered picnic area, and playground gives it major points above the typical rental hall, in my opinion. Unfortunately, they need new membership and more revenue BAD, or it could be taken over for suburban development. It holds 5 acres of BEAUTIFUL land in a convenient, yet quiet location ( that the City of Plymouth would make more money off of as condos or something), and since it's heyday in the 70s and 80s, the more motivated and social membership seems to have died out, leaving it vacant far more often than it needs to be. They are passively looking for groups interested in coming in to have events there such as ZUMBA, Scrapbooking, classes, etc.. I would love to see it utilized much more than it is (for public AND private events), but it's truely a hidden gem....probably too hidden to survive, sadly. http://www.wmlcc.org/ (The bartender picture on the homepage is TOTALLY fake. That's not what their bar is like at all. Haha!) If you're looking for a rental hall or venue and can handle the 'burbs (it's actually very close to Hwy 55, and not far from 3 other major highways) I'd definitely suggest checking it out. Disclaimer: I'm actually a member.... Feel free to tell them Alexis sent you, in any case, or let me know if you want to see about getting in there! I know who to ask.

The process for the most part is pretty simple. They email you surveys to determine if you qualify for the test. If you qualify you pick a time (during the test date). You show up, show your ID and answer a few questions to check in. They give you seat (or more recently they make you wait and could possibly turn you away if they get enough seats filled in the needed demographic). Once the testing starts you are at desk with an iPad (super easy screens with directions), you get water and they start bringing out samples and you follow the screen prompts. Once's it's over, they give you a check and you head out! They pay around $35 an/hour which isn't bad. Some test are multiple days. You could also quality to go into focused groups which you also get paid more for as well. You can test once every 60 days. For a while it was hard to qualify for test so I stopped doing it but every now and then I check to see what they have going on.

Once there you fill out a paper form similar to what was on the online questions. Confirm you don't have allergies. Show your photo ID and get assigned a respondent number. When it's time to start you file into a second room and sit at the table with your assigned number. They give you specific instructions to follow. Take a bit of saltine cracker to cleanse your pallette, sip of water, take at least 3 bites of your taste test item. Pay attention! Sometimes the first few questions are your opinions about how the item looks. Then you get to taste test. There is some down time so bring a magazine or book to read while they hand samples out. They frown on electronic versions because it's top secret! That's also why I'm trying to be rather general. You are tasting items before they're going to be sold in the grocery store. It's like Fight Club, but with food. The first rule is...well you can tell your friends you taste test. They're always looking for additional testers. They mainly test in Plymouth, but have some in Blaine sometimes too. It's really a fun opportunity to make around $40 for a little over an hour of your time usually. They also have a cool option where you can donate like $5 or $10 of your payment to a local non-profit! I was donating to a local youth program. I think they still offer it. So sign up! You'll get emails to answer questions and if you qualify you get paid to eat. Awesome!

Volunteerism at Second Harvest typically involves labeling and packaging food for individual consumption. No matter what size group I have brought to this location, they always have enough work to keep us busy for 2+ hours. Yesterday we sorted through pallets full of potatoes and created five-pound bags for distribution to families in need. In a two-hour span, a team of 40 volunteers created enough packs to make nearly 7,000 meals. That is true impact. During the process, the Second Harvest team efficiently kept us in supply of the necessary products and played some entertaining music that made us forget we were trading desk jobs for manual labor. Exercise, fun, and community benefit all in one event! At the end of our volunteer event, the staff provided statistics to help us measure the impact of our time. They also explained their broad reach and how many lives Second Harvest touches on a regular basis. I am so thankful that organizations like this exist and that they truly do all possible to make life a bit better for those who are suffering. To be a part of it is both humbling and incredibly satisfying. Whether you have a group of corporate volunteers or are a retiree looking to spend some time helping others, Second Harvest is a great partner organization.

I can't remember all the stats, but I do remember them saying one person in ten goes hungry in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. And to think how much I eat, how much we as a country/state/community waste food. They can make a dollar stretch, and with so many causes looking for money, this is one that really can help out a lot of people. We had about 30 people from our office, but there were two other companies volunteering. Most of us went into the 'clean room', where we donned our lunch lady hairnets and surgical gloves. We started bagging pasta, moved on to bag granola cereal, and finished with bagging rice. Some of our group as well as the other companies bagged potatoes. In our three hours of work, we roughly filled over 400 pounds of pasta, 500 pounds of cereal, and 800 pounds of rice. I think the potatoes were in the thousand-pound range. In all, we did enough work that would provide over 8,000 meals to families of four. As a company, we bonded, and I got to learn a bit more about some of my coworkers. It was a great team building event and while we had fun, this activity serves a greater good. I would do this again in a heartbeat and I highly recommend it to companies, groups of friends, or if you feel like you want to 'pay it forward'. Pictures say thousands of words. Just look at all these happy volunteers. It says it all. Hopefully they will get the August album up soon so you can see our picture. Second Harvest and the families who receive help from them are very grateful, too. www.2harvest.org/volunteerphotos
