You can show up and work out for only $2.50 a visit (technically, it's $3 for non-residents, but they didn't check). There is a gym, fitness room, aerobics/dance room, and meeting rooms. The City of Chanhassen offers personal training and fitness classes too. The locker rooms and showers are basic, but new and clean. It's a small facility, tucked into the east side of Bluff Creek Elementary School, so it's not glamorous. No rows of flat screen tvs or monitors and MP3 connections on every treadmill. All the cardio and weight training equipment is located in one room, but the machines are new and well maintained. It seems pretty quiet in the evenings, so their having only 3 treadmills shouldn't be a problem. There are also several ellipticals and stationary bikes, a rowing machine and what looked like a very complete weight lifting circuit. Sure, the Eden Prairie Community Center, the YMCA or the numerous private fitness clubs are larger and have more amenities. But they're also crowded, pricey and usually want a commitment of variable duration. For $2.50 (or even $3) a visit, this is the best deal I've found.

You can rent it for a fee (sorry I don't know how much) and bring in your own food. You also have to pay for the front desk person to be there while your event is going on. There are multiple other smaller rooms in addition to the large room with kitchen. They decorate for the holidays and have many accommodations you would need (tables/ chairs/ basic kitchen needs). She is very judgmental of people that want to visit there. She lets too many negative comments "fly" out of her mouth. She is quick to judge situations without knowing facts. A very gossipy place. They charge money to elderly people for bakery items that are all donated to the center. Yet, then she/they turn around collect that money and it's "pocketed" into the centers account . Then she has the nerve to say that the money- she charges for the bakery items -is money donated to the center. Not sure how that's ethical.

For 20 years, they have held an Annual Holiday Boutique, where up to 80 crafters have been offering their creations. I ventured out, and I am all the better for it. The Backyard is a kids play area - in terms of scale, think "Bigger and better than McDonald's" but "More manageable than Edenborough". This kids play structure features slides, climbing nets, and other obstacles. It's tall - keep this in mind if you have little ones that like to run off and get "stuck" at the top. Keeping adults in mind, the structure is built large enough for an adult to climb through but that does not mean you'll feel great doing it.. I speak from personal experience. :) You pay either a resident or non-resident entrance fee. As of this review, its $4.50 for residents, $5.50 for non-residents. Socks are required, and they have some available for purchase. Food and drink outside of water are not allowed in, so plan accordingly. Seating for adults is a little tight - there are sitting benches lining the perimeter of the room, but that is it. They seem to have two party rooms for kids birthdays - this would be a great spot, but be mindful that it is probably very busy with kids on any given weekend. Happy Playing!

It is a fairly new community center, so it has that minimalist, Scandinavian vibe to it. There is always a helpful person on staff at the info desk, too. This place has a play space called the "backyard", which is fantastic. It is big enough for the kids to have fun, not much in the way of sketchy things where the kids can get hurt, and not too big that you lose your kid and lose your mind trying to find them. I also feel that the parents here are good at keeping an eye on their kids and there aren't any kids that are too old, rampaging around knocking the little ones over. There is also a golf pro shop and a simple restaurant, too. It is a good spot for an afternoon play date with the kids and some parents, then head to the restaurant and stuff the kids, and then off home for bath and bedtime.

The sky-light in the ceiling mirrors the tribe's logo. The lower level is specifically members-only, so if you are visiting, you will not be able to view the lower level. We discovered that there was a fun masquerade happening after-hours the day we visited; it's nice to know there is involvement all the time from community members! The upper level is where visitors can come to explore the museum and learn about this region's specific segment of the Dakota tribe and the dialect they speak. You will get to see authentic and historic pieces that were unearthed in the burial mounds right here in the Shakopee area! Wow! Also many outfits worn by men and women. Two painted murals are very impressive as well. There are many exhibits to read from and interact with, many of which also include Dakota language read aloud so you can listen along. I especially liked learning that the tribe had specific words for older and younger brothers/sisters. My favorite exhibit was the teepee lined with real buffalo skins that you could sit inside and listen to recordings of oral history stories that might've been told back in the day while pretending to be next to a warm bonfire! Very immersive. I also really liked the origin story told at the beginning of the self-guided tour; the video played in 360 degrees as well as directly above you as if you were looking up at the sky/stars. It really made it special and memorable. Another fun experience for younger visitors is the bead stringing simulation with colored wooden blocks- choose a fun pattern and assemble like a puzzle! You will also be exposed to the tragedies that befell the tribe with the invasion of European settlers and learn the harsh struggles the community had in retaining its culture during that time. Further, there are exhibits of more contemporary times as the community has been able to secure more land, grow, and look toward providing for its future generations. Really remarkable the strength and hope showcased at the end of the tour and really wraps up the experience nicely. The rate for adults/general admission is $8. Seniors, educators, and students get a discount for $5. There is an occupancy limit of fifty individuals at a time. Be sure to stop at the giftshop to purchase unique gifts that benefit the community and the artists themselves that create the crafts. You'll find lotions, balms, incense, food items, maple syrup, incredible quilts, blankets, plushies, keychains, beanies, jewelry, pins, postcards, decorative pieces, books, and more. There is also a library full of great literature to learn even more if you choose, free of charge. Honestly, if you are in the area, this place is a must-go! Wonderful experience, and the employees are very friendly and knowledgeable too.
