I typically go to the Plato's in Roseville but I came to this Plato's Closet because I was in the area. You know how people say to go thrift shopping in the rich areas for good finds? Well I'd say this is a pretty prime example of it! I've been to plenty of Plato's Closets and this one definitely takes the cake for higher end, bougie, brand name items. In the store you can expect entire sections on: - Free People - Hunter boots - Uggs - Love Your Melon - Victoria's Secret And a ton of athletic wear like Lululemon, Nike, etc. I would definitely recommend coming here if you're looking for these brands! I would come back to buy but not sell because I don't wear a lot of the brand names they're looking for. I'm giving this place 3 stars instead of 1 or 2 because I do think their selection is very well curated with these bigger brands. However without this positive, I would opt for 1 or 2 stars. I came in with the intention to sell but once I walked into the store and say the daunting wall of Uggs and Free People shrine I pretty much knew they weren't going to take anything. When I arrived I don't think I was even greeted by the woman or man behind the counter. The woman just started going through my bags and asked me if I could sign in. I just peaked around the store a little but wasn't planning to buy. Once I was done walking around for maybe 5 minutes, I went to the counter because I assumed they were done. There was no one at the counter but there was no indication as to whether they were ready for me and my bags weren't insight... Finally the man gave me my bags and let me know that they were passing on everything because of slight wear and styles that don't do well for them. Overall this Plato's does a lot better than others in stocking brand names but also does a pretty horrible job at customer service. I would endure rude employees to come back for brands if I had to but I don't think it'd be too enjoyable of an experience! read more

Is zero stars an option... Staff is about as rude as it gets. Three times now I've left with my full basket of clothes and another basket on top practically falling through the door with it because it's only getting bigger with each time they tell me they aren't excepting clothes this late in the day. It's early afternoon? A lot of us work in the morning and dropping off clothes in the early afternoon shouldn't be this much of an issue, three times worth. Not to mention they took the people's clothes just in front of me, but told me that was their last take and left me standing there with my pile of clothes. Just so condescending. Rude! HEY !!! If I could leave 0 stars I would. The blonde hair lady that works here was absolutely unhinged. She obviously hates her life and job. Her whole demeanor is off putting. I get it, I wouldn't want to work at Plato's either but no one is forcing her to work there.... Never left a one star review before, guess there's a first time for everything - They were very short, unwelcoming, and rude to me (and the dude in front of me). Specifically the older woman with blonde hair and glasses. Almost didn't even leave my clothes there for them to look at. I returned two hours later, and they had taken NOTHING of all the bins I had brought in. I had some name brand in there (Aeropostale, FILA, etc). I sell often with other Platos, and recommend the Roseville or Woodberry locations. I will never come back to this location. read more

I was told I'd receive a phone call if my items were accepted and that I'd get that call by 2pm, I never got the call. Subject to the Minnetonka location only - no matter the amount of clothes you bring in, what day or time you drop off clothes it will take them 2+ hours to look at your items. They will then reject just about everything you give them, I'm talking brand new items with tags. This particular store the owner is pretentious and unless it's designer with tags, well frankly, you are below her. They think with their poor customer service that time after time they can slap on a "thank you so much, come back soon!" And that will smooth things over but I'm personally done bringing my brand new, tagged, items to a store that won't even buy them for bottom dollar. I will literally go from the Minnetonka store and then have more than half of those same "rejected items" purchased at other locations. Talk about an eye roll. I don't leave many 1 star reviews, but this place truly deserves it. Coming from the seller side, I think this has to be one of the most disrespectful cases of customer service I've seen. Upon arrival, I had a female employee say "fill this out" very sternly, no greeting. I tried getting my ID out (as this is proper protocol for most Plato's Closet locations) and she said "I don't need that, put your ID away" in a rude and disrespectful tone. She said they close at 6 so to come back between 5:30 and 6 for my items, and I asked what the wait time was currently and she snarled back "between 5:30 and 6" (most locations quote a time, that was about 2 hours) and said "we don't text when it's done so you better come back between that half hour". I left my items and just felt taken aback by the interaction. When I arrived my clothes had been completely tossed around (we were told to have them neatly folded coming in) and they took 5 items (out of 2 FULL baskets) and paid me $9. They mostly took jeans, so unsure how they got that price. I asked to see what they took, and she threw the bin on the counter aggressively and when I asked how much again, who I assume was the owner, barked back "$9." Obviously, this snarky behavior is condoned as it comes from the top. She gave me my money and I left, as it wasn't worth the effort to say anything else to them. I truly don't care that they didn't take my items, paid me little to nothing for excellent used condition jeans, but because of the poor customer service. I should've known just based on my phone call asking what their wait time was and them refusing to answer (no other location does this). Do yourself a favor, and drive out a little further to another Plato's closet to sell. read more

I brought a basket of things to sell. They told me to come back an hour later. I came back and they said they only wanted to buy only 2 things (a blazer and a laptop bag). When I got home I realized they stole my plaid coach wristlet without paying for it. I was just a going to donate my stuff anyways but didn't think they would steal from me. Seriously the worst Plato's Closet I've ever been to. ANY of the other Twin Cities locations are a better choice than the Minnetonka Plato's Closet. The employees appeared extremely apathetic. As I was looking around the store and waiting for them to look through the clothing I brought to sell, I overheard the employees gossiping about the physical appearance of a different customer that day. I decided to walk up to the counter and take my clothing back - I didn't want to sell at this location. It was at this moment I realized they hadn't even started looking through what I brought in. Terrible. Why would anyone pay $90 for a used Lululemon zip up when they can buy it brand new for that price? A long sleeve thinner material for $50...? Checked out their leggings as well and those were anywhere from $45-$80. WHAT? A long North Face jacket for $175, my roommate has the same one she got brand new for $125. No one wants to pay full price for used clothing. Plato's Closet in Roseville is much more affordable. Lulu leggings for $18-$30. The store is much cleaner, the staff is 100% more helpful and kind. My friend and I love going around to different consignment stores around the twin cities. After an upsetting trip to this store a while back, we decided we weren't going return. Everything was extremely overpriced. For example, the lululemon, north face and Patagonia were super expensive, especially given that some of the styles were older. I'm sure that I could have gone to the actual store and bought something new with tags for less. Then I wouldn't have had to deal with the hostile environment. Fast forward to recently and we went back hoping that with all the other negative reviews, they would have changed their ways and made their store more friendly and more appealing to shop at. However, it was the same thing. Even though we hadn't been there in over a year, we saw some of the same overpriced stuff that was there last time. $85 for a lululemon sweatshirt and you wonder why it hasn't sold? The only thing that was different was that the owner's dog wasn't rolling around on the counter. BEWARE: This Plato's Closet sucks!!! I had brand new shoes and brand new dresses and they did not take any of them because they said they were "too worn." I would have better luck selling my items on the online garage sale on Facebook! Plato's Closet is trash!! Update to my review: I finally just went through the bag of clothes that they didn't take to actually sell online. I had women's clothes, some mens, and 2 pairs of heels. Well guess what? Every time I've stopped in, the owner is in with her bad attitude and barky dog. I brought in nice brands (from their website), some with tags still on. And yes, recent. They gave me $15 for 11 items. What? There were many perfect condition Nike Pro leggings, Free People, etc. I was also ignored at the counter when I came to pick up my other clothes. I was also extremely disappointed when I brought in significantly less clothes a different time and got 5x as much back... this place is inconsistent and I have trouble understanding why it's still open. read more

the woman i talked to was so rude. when i asked if they could donate my stuff for me she snapped and said "we aren't a donation center you need to take your stuff with you. you need to" in a really rude harsh tone. I'm giving this Plato's closet in Minnetonka a one star review because I walked in there this morning trying to sell a lot of nice clothes which they of course didn't take, I let that slide there's nothing I can do about it. Then I began walking around shopping trying on lots of clothes when suddenly I hear the manager and one of her employees talking about me while I'm in the dressing room. (How rude). Went in today to try to sell some of my clothes from before I had my baby (who's only 3 months old), and I will never walk back into this store again. The owner's dog was laying on the counter barking, and the store was a mess. The lady looked at ONE pair of my jeans and asked if I was selling for a friend. Confused, I responded that they were in fact mine, and she threw them back in my bin and said that the clothes "must be outdated because there was no way I fit in them within the last few years". Came to this platos closet the other day. I always shop at platos all over the country and have a great experience and buy a ton of stuff! This was defiantly the worst one I've ever been too. Everything was SO expensive compared to any other platos & The staff didn't make me feel welcome whatsoever and I felt like they were talking about me the whole time. Literally brought 2 full paper target bags of clothes, multiple things with the tags on them. I got there and the two girls and guy at the counter complained on who got to sort through my stuff, which I thought was super rude. So after they took my two bags of clothes I was looking around just waiting, and I looked back up 5min later they still haven't started sorting it yet. Then finally one of the girls went to the bags and unfolded 3-4 things and put them back, switched a couple things around the other bag and THEY DIDNT EVEN GO THROUGH IT!!! I watched them from an aisle just leave the bags and call me up 10min later saying that nothing suited their style at that time..... if you aren't going to do your job, then quit. if you're looking to sell, don't go here. you never know what you're going to get with plato's closet, and i've had some bad experiences at different locations, but i've continued to come back. i like to sell my old clothes and accessories before donating everything. even if they don't take anything, i may as well chance making a few extra bucks. but my visit to the hopkins location was terrible. i brought in three bags of clothing and accessories. half of the items were new and had never been worn (don't ask...) the boy behind the counter took a quick look through all of it and told me they couldn't take any because of "too much wear and stains." sooo...did he just make that up or what?? irritated and don't want to deal with the dumb teenagers who work at plato's again, especially this location. :( read more

This is probably the worst platos closet I've been to. All the items were ridiculously expensive for a platos closet. Some of the higher priced items, like lulu lemon jackets, Nike shoes and other brands were basically full price. The selection of clothing was rather scarce and not very good. Workers said hello when we walked in but other than that socializing was at a minimum. I have never seen a platos closet with such high prices. The highest I've seen at other stores is $50, not upwards of $80 like Minnetonka. Overall : don't waste your time at this store. read more

I personally live in Hopkins and I will never go to this location again, I'd rather go to the Eden Prairie location over this one any day. They just stood behind the counter complaining about prior customers. When we went to check out there was confusion with a texted coupon. I really like this place. To be honest, I was a bit nervous going in due to the past negative reviews but I decided to give it a try. It was a great experience! Everyone on staff was very helpful and kind. I've been back several times and my experience has been consistent. I love their dollar rack - I'm always able to find something! Some of the items are a bit overpriced but hey, such is life. But overall, you can get a cute outfit for a low price. No complaints! read more

What a shitty store. Is it possible for the employees to be any more rude or apathetic? Seriously. Look, i work retail, and am also a teenage girl. I know that you can slip into retail drone mode. But holy shit, I have never seen a more dead-eyed expression than I did today. The girls working obviously hated that they were there and were incredibly rude. I asked a question about consignment and she literally walked away pretending she didn't hear me. Later, I looked her in the eye and asked what the date was (twice in case she didn't hear me) and she rolled her eyes. I thought it would be better when the shifts switched over, but the girl that replaced her was just as awful (but she did at least greet people when they came in). I hate to be that girl who is like "smile!!!" but seriously, you work customer service. Try to act like you care. Maybe ask the customers if they need any help, try not to sound like you would rather slit your wrists in the back room rather than talk to anyone, etc. I'm a sarcastic bitch, but I at least know how to turn on the customer service personality when I'm at work. I can't see these girls getting hired anywhere else. I'm surprised they still work there. The manager was a brat as well, she reminds me of my own manager (haha) who acts like she is wayyyy above you and you know nothing. Also, I asked about selling clothes and she literally just walked around the store and talked in her respective aisle about how to do it, so I had to follow her around the store just to get an answer. That was weird. When it comes to selling clothes, take your business down the street to NTY Clothing Exchange. SO much better service (seriously, the girls there were super great and so nice) and they'll take your stuff. I brought in three bags of clothes, half with tags, bought within the last year. While browsing, I saw THREE of the shirts I had in the bag on the racks. And yet they didn't take a single item. She cited "not current styles". I mean, I worked at a Forever21 (a brand that fills like 30% of your inventory) for the last year, so I got a ton of clothes that are the "current styles" that I never even ended up wearing. You're either full of shit or you don't know what teen girls wear. I've been in this store three times, twice as a shopper, once now as a seller. Each time I tell myself I shouldn't come back. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had in an clothing/consignment store. The manager there was very rude to me, not welcoming at all. They stiffed me on the money as well, claiming to give me "1/3 of the price" they sell it for. They bought two pairs of jeans from me and two other items and gave me $7, although they sell their jeans for $16 and up. Now normally I love shopping and selling my clothes at Plato's Closet but I will never return to the Minnetonka one. I walked in one Saturday afternoon to sell some clothes I rarely wore and mind you they were stylish and in perfect condition. There are about four girls about 16 years old and they're all sitting behind the counter gossiping. Not one of them acknowledges my presence. So I say "hey I have some clothes to sell" and one girl grudgingly comes over to help me. She takes my large bag of clothes and I decide to shop while I wait. So I'm over looking at the jeans when I overhear one of the girls say "oh those shoes are cute! What size are they?... Oh they're 8! They'll fit me!" She was talking about a pair of shoes I was selling. When I went and asked them if they were done yet, the girl says "we were only able to take the shoes. We can offer you $2.50 for them." I knew she hadn't looked at anything else in my bag and I also knew she wanted the shoes for herself for super cheap so I said no I'll just take them. I then brought everything to the Eden Prairie Plato's Closet and they bought everything in my bag. I know I shouldn't expect the greatest service in a teen clothing store but this experience was beyond irritating and a waste of my time. Stay out of the Minnetonka store. read more
