I tried to consign here twice. the first time they took two of my 15 items. I was surprised but after thinking about it the rest of the items really wouldn't have sold there. The second time I had more of what I saw around the store but they took nothing. The young woman said it was because they were items that weren't currently selling or condition. I'm not sure how a basic black skirt won't sell, but OK. I will admit that many of the items I brought aren't obvious US brands. Let this be a warning to anyone looking to consign, check what brands they are willing to take before trying to consign here because if its not a known brand, they aren't buying. read more

Nu Look is a decent sized consignment shop, with an array of selections from athletic clothing to children clothes. The store is clean and well organized and they have a variety of upscale and department store brands. The prices are very good, especially for brands like lululemon and lush. I picked up a shirt from Nordstrom that still had the price tag for less than $15. Although they did have some cute stuff, I wasn't too impressed with the selection. Many of shirts I looked at had a lot of wear (pilling, fading etc). If I'm consignment shopping I usually like to get pieces that look somewhat new. They still had a good selection of items and it seems like there is a little something for everyone there. Idk if I would go again, but I would recommend Nu Look for anyone looking for some designer deals or looking to pick up some unique finds. read more

Ima let you guys in on a little secret. Thrifting in fancy parts of town is the way to go. That said, I'm excited about Nu Look in South Minnie... even though (sorry, Nu) I kinda hate the name. I was here in the neighborhood this weekend on a thrifting crawl with some girlfriends and three out of five of us found some incredible things at Nu Look. The designer denim selection is pants-down awesome. Along with jeans, you'll also find professional clothing, maternity, upscale stuff, jewelry, accessories, baby and children's items and shoes. Upstairs, don't be surprised by the occasional Prada, Chanel and Kate Spade. The basement was our favorite because we realized that some of the items were marked down even further (if you're not sure if something is on clearance, you can check the tag for the date it is supposed to go on sale). It's not all good -- some of it screams "1990s grandmother" -- but it's a big enough store that it can afford to leave floor space for everything. I will never need another dress as long as I live, but (of course) I found two. The prices are not thrifty but they are justifiable for the kind of quality you'll discover here ($50 each). One of the dresses was a party dress from Anthropologie (tags still attached) and another was a long designer maxi dress. I love the neighborhood also. It's next door to Broders and Lake Harriet is only a couple of blocks away if you need a bite or want to take a walk and mull over your potential purchases. Make sure to put your favorites on hold so they don't get snapped up while you're eating pasta. read more

First visit, high expectations as consignment stores usually have lots of really nice items. Appears that the young staff doesn't really have an eye for damage, as 3 of the 4 items I was purchasing were damaged. I caught the damage on one of the items but found damage on others once I got home. I would say to CAREFULLY inspect your items before you buy. When I shared the damage with staff, they simply put the tag back on to return to the floor!!!! The double racking in the store allows for lots of merch, but I found the hangers from the bottom racks tangled and tearing the bottoms of the items in the top racks. Such a shame when it's a lovely lace piece that could have had a new home... AGAIN, inspect the bottoms / tops of items for rack damage. Prices are good to better depending on time on floor, but lots of merchandise that has been in store for over a year as the dates on the tags indicate. Were I the owner, I'd counsel my staff about the condition of the accepted items. Fewer items in great condition would be preferable and surely sell for higher prices.I'd also evaluate the heights of the racks to eliminate damage to garments. I'd move the kids stuff downstairs and bring the dresses and shoes upstairs where they might get more organization. If you're ok with REALLY hunting and careful inspection like you have to do in a thrift store, this is an good find. If you have high expectations, not so much.... read more

Stopped into Nu Look on a whim after a long hiatus. Glad I did. Scored a gently used Chloe bag for about $20.00 which retailed for $3900.00. It is safe to say that you have to be a savvy shopper here. They carry a variety of the moderately priced brands (Lululemon, Gap, Ann Taylor, etc.) and also some couture brands (Chloe, Chanel, Gucci, Prada) for bargain basement low prices, especially if you wait for their sales. read more

I really wanted to like this place. The clothing selection seems a bit dated, but I did find a simple, black dress I liked and ended up buying it. I've also consigned a few items here, and a pair of my shoes were stolen. Not impossible to do, I'm sure, but only one of the shoes is on the sales floor at a time; the other is held in an employee-only area. Sales staff offered no apology, and they didn't seem interested in helping me try to find them, either. It's not like I can hold Nu Look liable--you sign away your right to do this in a consignment contract. Therefore, they could have, at very least, offered some sympathy. Won't return. read more

Holy smokes, this place is a huge labyrinth of awesomeness! I could've easily spent 2+ hours exploring, but I was really paranoid about the 30 minute parking restriction in the parking lot. I only made it as far as looking at sweaters. I scored two perfect green sweaters (one was even a designer label). Why am I not giving Nu Look five stars? I've been consigning and shopping at Nu Look for years. It is my favorite consignment shop in the Twin Cities! Whenever I visit, I find the best deals. Yes, you have to comb the racks to find treasure. It's worth it, though! On my most recent visit alone, I got an Athleta dress, three cashmere sweaters (Saks 5th Avenue, Magaschoni, and Banana Republic), and a pair of Stuart Weitzman pumps--all for less than $75 total. They generally have a pretty good selection of Lululemon, Cole Haan, Seven for All Mankind, True Religion, Coach, and the like. I appreciate that they have a separate designer section carved out, so if you're only looking for finer brands (Burberry, Theory, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Lafayette 148, etc.), you don't have to dig. If you're consigning, it's sometimes hard to guess what they'll take (usually they take less than what I'd like, but oh well). It's easy to get an appointment (or just walk in during less busy times), though, so it's worth a shot! read more

I have found every major work dress I've ever owned at this store. I got a Ralph Lauren black turtleneck dress for $20. I wear it CONSTANTLY. I also got a Banana Republic brushed wool dress that works in any season for $20. Their shoe selection is decent. This is a great place for someone who is moving up in the job world, and needs to cheaply update their wardrobe. Sometimes they're off, and just don't have anything that doesn't shriek "WAAAAAAAAAA! I love this store and have been shopping here for several years now. I was never a thrifter previously, but I stopped in one night to see if I could find an interviewing suit of J.Crew level quality that did not carry the $400 J. Crew price tag. Wow, that visit sold me. As luck should have it, I found a tags-on Benneton suit that was 75% off and cost maybe $30. I've been returning ever since, especially to build my professional wear wardrobe, which I needed to get up to speed in a hurry. Luck is the key here, and patience to sift through racks. If you are not in the mood to spend 1-2 hours and sort through lots of no's, you might get frustrated. But if you are on a specific mission or in the mood to browse, definitely make a stop here. The store is organized by categories: Sweaters, tops, jeans, dresses, blazers/suits, shoes, maternity, kids, etc. For the most part, items are organized by color too. I've always found nice brands and quality among the mass of items here and have scored everything from a designer trench and real Italian leather shoes, consistent work wardrobe finds of Banana Republic, J. Crew, Ann Taylor and Tahari, and trendier jeans and casual wear from Joe's, Michael Stars, Sweet Pea, etc. The basement is kind of a free-for-all. I usually give it a quick browse toward the end of my visit, but mostly focus on the racks upstairs (note though, that all regular price shoes, dresses and outerwear are located down here too). If you shop here often enough, I promise you will be rewarded and slowly build up an awesome wardrobe at a fraction of the retail price. As other posters have mentioned, the 50% and 75% pricing can really land you some amazing deals. Definitely check it out some time and you will probably not go home empty handed. They also have a 10% discount off of regular items for MPR members. Score. read more

I've both consigned and shopped here on and off for a few years now. The store is ridiculously huge. They have an ity bitty parking lot so I usually end up finding somewhere on the street. That kinda sucks when you're trying to carry in a butt load of clothes. I don't have the patience to look through all the racks so I usually concentrate on the more 'designer label' items in the front of the store. I enjoy perusing their coats, purses and shoes. If they sell your items, you receive 50% of the selling price. If, after 60 days, your item doesn't sell, the price is reduced by half. If it has not sold after an additional 30 days, it becomes the property of Nu Look. They have a handy dandy website that allows you to track your items that are for sale - it shows when they sell, how much they sold for, when they'll be clearance, etc. Overall, I've been very happy with my experience. It's just hard not to cry when they deem certain items of mine unfit for consigning. Especially when it's an impulse purchase I only wore once! read more

I bought a French Connection dress from here today that will go down as the best item that I (or anyone) has ever bought at a consignment store. Obviously consignment and thrift stores are hit or miss, but today there were a lot of hits. I went to the dressing room with 8 or 9 dresses in my hand and left with two. Crappy management. I had shopped at Nu Look many times. For the first time, I thought I would try to consign a couple items with them. It was a disaster and management's behavior was astonishing. My $450 (retail price) item was sold the same day I dropped it off...for $40. Then my second item got donated even though I contacted them before the stated deadline. I never received a call or a returned email. Was told by store staff that I would be refunded then management reversed that I get no refund and item is gone. I wish I had used Poshmark. I would have got more for the sale AND would have had solid communication instead of this mess. read more

My friend and I stopped in here last week and found plenty to try on, but only one thing to purchase. The prices are a little inconsistent, and the organization (or lack there of) was slightly annoying. Size 10 dresses were lumped in with extra smalls, and some racks were too jammed with hangers to see anything without removing a few different items to make room. I didn't look at the designer offerings, but there was a nice selection of shoes and dresses. If I'm in the area again I will return. read more

Part of my day of west suburb consignment hopping, Nu Look was a pleasant surprise as they have a large and extensive selection of women's clothing to flip through. Most things are organized by size and then by color. This store is mainly casual wear with a few good pieces for work. I didn't care much for the tops selection as it's mainly v-neck sleeveless in odd prints or shirts whose colors have faded from too many washings. Tops are priced mainly under $20. Also, color choices more suited to the fair blondes, but that's not surprising considering where the store is located and who likely consigns there. Sweater selection is quite extensive, covering an entire wall, which was surprising as it is going into summer. A lot of LOFT and Banana Republic with the odd JCrew and department store brand thrown in. Sizes Small and Medium dominate with adequate, if uninspiring, picks for XS, L, and XL. Prices mainly under $30. Best part of store is the clearance area in the basement which is actually marked down. Tried on two Banana Republic dresses at 75% off with one of them being 100% silk, no stains that I could see, and orig. consign price of $35. Unfortunately sizing was an issue for me so had to pass on purchase. If I lived closer I might stop in more frequently, likely as often as I do TJ Maxx, but this is going to have to be a once a month thing. Recommend for those trying to build a more mature wardrobe on a limited budget. read more

They tried their best to track down what happened, and when they couldn't figure it out, they made it right by me and honored what they had written down on their intake sheet. I've found some really good deals here; especially when I've been in-between sizes post-pregnancy, and don't want to spend a lot of $$ on clothes. I found an awesome deal on a suit I knew I was only going to wear once for a job interview - it was Tahari brand, so very nice quality and looked band new. Bought 2 pairs of pants. Next day I noticed the one pair had been hemmed and so they were way too short. The other pair of pants said they were a size 8 on paper tag the store put on them. When I tried them on later they were HUGE. Looked at tag inside pants and it said size 12. Yes, I should have tried them on, but I was familiar with the brands so I didn't see a need to. Store would not let me return wither pair. There are soooo many clothes in the store and many are very old. All the clothes are way overpriced. $20 for a Gap shirt thats probably 10 years old?! C'MON! ALso, beware, i have noticed small holes in many of the items. Probably from moths when they were hung in closets for years before brought into Nu Look to be sold at outrageous prices. read more

I've been shopping at this store for over 20 years and some of my most favorite things have come from this store. Prices are reasonable for the high quality, mostly name-brand items that I'm just too cheap to pay full price for in the malls. My all-time favorite was a J Crew sweater dress that I wore for, like, 10 years. They have decent men's and kids (especially babies and toddlers) sections. It's kind of a maze inside and the racks are crowded! Leave small kids at home or you will never find them again. Make sure you have about 2 hours to browse, and definitely try things on. Plan to park a block or more away because their lot has about 3 spaces. My main problem is that I've never really lived close to the store so it's hard for me to get over there as often as I'd like. Better for my bank account, but not so much for my wardrobe.... read more

Unprofessional consignment does eventually pay off. I've been taking my gently worn (sometimes never worn) clothes to NuLook for a few years, and although I loath the process, it does provide a decent check in the end. To check your clothes in you need an appointment- they will usually snap at you when you walk in with your clothes, "You need an appointment." I've always called in advance and still get a stiff remark when I get there. Depending on who goes through your clothes, most things you'd think they're after (brands like Free People, Anthro, various brands from Macys and Nordstroms) get tossed aside. They did not take several BRAND NEW pieces from BCBG, Piperlime, and Zappos but ended up with two Khol's sweaters, an Old Navy jacket, and a Target shirt. I understand the intake is based on demand and what's in season, but I'm not confident the employees are very familiar with a wide selection of brands. They will make comments like, "that's a cheap brand" and "low quality label" and ask each other "these are in nice shape, but is this an expensive brand?" Among their racks there's a lot of Banana Republic, Talbots, Silver jeans, and Coach purses- brands that are a little more middle-aged and generic, and a lot of the clothing looks washed-out and tattered. I just wish they were more focused on the quality of the pieces I bring in instead of if they've heard of the brand, and that they'd be a little more pleasant and professional (say THANKS for stopping, put your conversation about your weekend plans on hold while I wait for you to go through my clothes.) Out of 100 pieces they will take 10, and usually I get a check within 60 days for around $100, so it ends up being worth the time and hassle. read more

I have shopped and consigned at Nu Look for 20 years! I love the selection, the quality merchandise and the sales. That said, I have to finally complain about the customer service. Especially after my visit last evening to their semi-annual 1/2 price sale. One of the sales people was the most unpleasant creature I have ever encountered. She had her name tag stuck on her arm. If it was hers, her name was Dru. I encountered her several times during my two hour $150.00 stay. Each time she answered my questions, but never with a smile. She happened to ring up my purchases also and not once did she smile or seem happy to help me spend my money in the store she was working at. I expect good customer service having worked in retail before. I did not get it from Dru. I was waiting for a thank you when she handed me my bag. Not a word. She just walked away. Needless to say the other "regular" salespeople that work there are more friendly but not overly so. I have been finding myself going to many other re-sale shops these days because their customer service is far superior. Sorry Nu Look. It matters. read more
