I used to shop here a lot when I lived in Minneapolis but on my visit back, I couldn't find one thing that fit me. I'm usually a size medium in all other brands including Madewell, Anthropologie, etc. but none of the dresses or other fitted tops fit over my 36C breasts. Disappointing to try on a large and not even be able to button it. I think the selections could be a little more accessible for us larger breasted ladies! read more

Had an amazing experience here today! Was driving by & the clothes displayed really caught my eye. I went inside & immediately was greeted. They have an amazing selection of clothing for the summer & all under $100. I'm petite & have curves so I was a bit skeptical if anything would fit, but everything I tried felt as if it was custom for me. I walked out with 6 dresses & jumpsuits. Beyond love this place! I've shopped here for a few years on and off and I've had pleasant experiences and usually leave with 2-3 things. I had received a gift card for my birthday (July), and went for the third time today since my birthday to try and find a dress. The associate was very sweet and tried to help me find something - she suggested some items, brought in things from the back, etc. As many items as I liked, I couldn't find anything bc there was little to nothing in my size (I am 5'8, about a size 10, curvy). I left with a cute coat and a pair of earrings. I feel this boutique misses the mark on size inclusivity bc every item I liked was only available in S or M. There were very little Larges in anything and absolutely no XLs that I could see. Maybe they don't want women of a normal/larger size to serve as brand ambassadors, I don't know. But may I suggest ordering more items in larger sizes so you don't sell out the only ones you do have so fast, leaving only small items behind? Just a thought. I'll try again. read more

This is a nice edition to the boutique shopping in st paul. I like the location and I am impressed with the pricing and products they have. They do rotate quite frequently and get new things in so it is always nice to stop by. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I have also been in there when they are having a promotion of some sort here and there or more like a celebration because I was able to get some treats at a candy bar once which was really cool. They typically have some type of fresh flower arrangement on the counter---and once they had coffee and assorted sweets and treats...I must always just hit it on a good day or something.... I have purchased my 22 year old daughter several things here since they opened and the prices are considerably better than some of the other little shops around the area--for that one of a kind dress or outfit to wear for something special... read more

This is my new favorite store. St. Paul has really become a sweet shopping destination, what with Snellby area and Grand and all. Now, right down my street, there is AWESOME shop within MY price range! Eeee! The chicks that own the place seem really cool. One of them offered me a mimosa at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, so she was obviously my new friend. They said they could order anything I liked if it wasn't in my size and it'd be in the store in a day or two. I went the first weekend it opened, and apparently business was so rocking that they were way low on merch. Really, I couldn't tell. There was still tons of bad-ass, cute clothes to choose from and I nearly bought out the rest of their inventory. B+ for style, D for execution... I visited Primp earlier this summer because I was in search of a dress to wear to a wedding and I liked the look of the options I saw on their Facebook & website. Plus they were having a little dress soiree. Perfect. At first glance, I was impressed. The space is cute, and it's well organized and decorated. I thought, "Now this is my kind of boutique!" While browsing the racks, I noticed the prices were unbelievably low! I was so excited that thought I might be able to walk out with not just one dress, but two for the budget I set for myself. But, my excitement quickly diminished. I left disappointed because although I found a few items I liked, I had to wait for a dressing room for over a half hour (I almost decided to leave), and the staff did nothing to help move the process along. In fact, they were paying such little attention that at one point, I had to notify them that a customer had vacated one of the rooms. Once I actually got to try on the items I'd chosen, I found flaws in all of them. The fabrics were so thin and some of the dresses actually lacked liners, so you could totally see through them! The one dress I really loved, but it was sewn so crooked that it was impossible to ignore. After that experience, it makes sense why everything is priced as cheaply as it is. I think there could be an occasional good find, but I won't be going out of my way to shop here. :( It saddens me, because I really, really wanted to like this place. read more

Primp is a little hit or miss. I have been here several times, and about half the times, I have found absolutely perfect things, and end up buying a bunch of things. Other times, I walk out with nothing. Though, that isn't a fault of the store, just that they don't always have my style. However, I love their prices and how it has such an expensive feel when you walk in,only to realize most of their dresses are under $50, and their shirts are even less expensive. They always have cute accessories...I am personally tempted by their belt selection! The employees are really nice, and they are always really helpful at suggesting outfit parings, and have always been honest about the way clothing looks on you, something I really appreciate. They also give a discount to students...just show your college i.d, and get a percentage off your total! Very helpful for small budgets! read more

I'm so thrilled to have a boutique in my neighborhood where I can go when I'm having a "bad clothes day". The quality of the garments is questionable, but the selection is mostly trendy fashion that you don't need to last a lifetime. I bought a cute cowl neck top and some sunglasses and spent about what I'd spend at TJ Maxx, but I didn't have to get in my car and drive there. I know I'll stop in regularly. Maybe I love the idea of it more than the actual store - but either way, it makes me feel good inside. lol Of course one of the most fab things about this place is that everything is pretty reasonably priced. I love getting the boutiquey look without going broke. It is also nice to shop at the place like this where you don't worry as much about running into 4 other people with the same {target shirt} like I have done in the past. Love the accessories too. Every time I go into Primp the exact same thing happens. First, I decide to go in as I walk by based on something ADORABLE in the window. Then, I proceed to buy adorable dresses that all average about $60 a pop. Then I leave feeling SUPER happy. I love Primp because their styles are always on-trend, but without the price tags. It's like a more sophisticated Forever 21. But like all things, you get what you pay for, meaning that you might only get a few really solid wears out of that $15 top or $15 necklace before it breaks or snags or feels uncool overnight. Only other downside is that the clothes skew small, so sometimes I leave feeling a bit...uhm...not the greatest about myself from a sizing perspective - but it totally depends on the individual pieces. That said, this place finds great dresses, scarves, and basics. It's perfect for finding a flowery summer hippie chick dress or a button down blouse for that business meeting. Plus, the women who run the store are always super smiley, chic and helpful. Willing to be the ultimate tie-breaker when deciding which pieces go home with you and which stay put. Bonus: I follow Primp on Instagram, which has definitely also lured me into their store before in search of that specific shirt or cardigan...so that's been helpful if I'm looking for something specific. Last thing to note: Primp has an odd return policy, so just make sure you ask about that. I think all jewelry is non-refundable and there's a short window to make any true returns (meaning not getting store credit but straight-up cash), so just make sure you ask about that. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this boutique! From the looks of it, I thought everything would have high price points, but the prices were probably my favorite part of the store! I walked away with 5 items for $125!! Whoop! All of the items were super cute and I wanted to buy a lot! A tip for all of you- follow them on Facebook or instagram so you know what they have at the moment! As other reviewers have mentioned, all the merch is under $100. Big score. I also loved what I saw in terms of jewelry and accessories. Good stuff going on there, and with the service too. The shopkeeper stepped out from behind the register to greet and assist the many customers that wandered in (very busy for a weekday afternoon). Another big score just for being nice. Among the summery dresses, mostly very short skirts, tops and leggings, I found one blouse that I loved, but it was not in my size. [Also, it really was a "blouse" rather than a "shirt." Very blousy.] Primp only stocks limited numbers of an item and once it's gone, it's really gone. It's the kind of store you probably want to stop by whenever you have time to keep an eye on things and snap up what you want before someone else does. It's also a good pop-in, pop-out shop if you just need something quick for a night out. The only real negative that had me oscillating between three and four stars is that it reminded me of a Forever 21 situation. The clothes are cute, but you have to carefully select your purchases among the more solid garments and the things you know won't last that long regardless. Like the dresses/jackets that have a real lining and everyday T-shirts and things like that. Similarly, it seemed to me that it's possible to find fantastic things at Primp, but not everything is fantastic. At Primp, the cheap quality just doesn't match with the atmosphere so it seems out of place. It's such an adorable, sunny, locally owned boutique that my brain expects silk and lambswool and organic cotton. Maybe it just can't be done under $100, but if it can (I hope it can), I would love to see this place with slightly more well-made clothes. read more

I've been a loyal customer at Primp since they opened their doors 10 years ago. It's been my favorite store and 50%+ of my closet is filled with items I've purchased from them over the years. But I'm done supporting this business. They don't care about customers or customer loyalty. They misrepresented a size online and I ordered the item only to find it was much to small. I was going to ship it back in exchange for the next size up (I live out of state). They said I'd need to pay for both return shipping and shipping of the exchanged item. That amount would come to almost $40. The item itself was $40. So that would make a $40 item, now $80. They also basically told me it was my fault for ordering the wrong size, even though I was very careful and mindful of just that. I also hadn't wanted to be in a situation where I had to send back the item because that's extra work for everyone. But to not even allow me to exchange the item with free shipping of the new size back? It seems ridiculous. I was offered 10% off for my inconvenience which to me is laughable. I am stunned at the lack of customer service and insensitivity I received. After a decade of loyal service and years spending my well eat earned money here, I'm appalled and feel beguiled. read more

I used to be of the mindset that if you wanted trendy and stylish clothing, you could never buy it on the cheap without a fantastic sale going on. Primp proved me wrong. I wandered in one day after passing by in my car a few times, and was about to keel over with glee when a friendly salesgirl informed me that all the cute clothes and jewelry in the store are UNDER A HUNDRED DOLLARS. Everything. Even coats and dresses. And no, it was not a sale, it's their business. Sure, I'd never heard of most of the brands in the place, but that didn't matter - everything felt and fit great. I walked out with two cute dresses and a top, and have gotten compliments on all three. I think both the dresses I bought were under $40. And though the fabric wasn't as awesome as many of the clothes I'm used to, they're still comfy and okay for a fun night out. The salespeople were so friendly, the atmosphere didn't feel cheap at all, and the styles were so cute and trendy (but not obnoxiously so). I'll definitely be back! read more

I really appreciate having a fashionable but relatively affordable clothing store in Saint Paul-- Primp fits the bill! The selection is fairly large- one wall of just blouses, one wall of dresses, and then various things throughout the store. I've found a few really good deals for blouses & dresses here. The pants are all from different brands so they all fit differently which means you always need to try things on. My favorite thing to get at Primp is jewelry. They have a lovely selection of necklaces, all really affordable and my go-to place to find new pieces. The staff at this location is helpful, but they don't hover and aren't pushy at all. The inside of the store is beautiful, all light colors, pretty displays, and generally a welcoming environment. I will knock the store for size selection. It's all pretty much just S/M/L and very limited quantities of the merchandise. So basically once it's gone, it's gone. Also I would consider Primp a "trendy" store-- lots of current trends in stock (crop tops, velvet, jumpers..) but not so much classic, simple pieces. However if you need a dress for a wedding in a pinch (speaking from experience here)-- this is your place. read more

There are times when I go in and want to buy everything and some times when I just don't have any luck. That being said, they have something for everyone and I like that they don't overflow their racks. I was randomly inspired to shop a few weeks ago - okay not random, pretty standard for me - and I remembered driving past this little shop a the month before so I decided to stop in. I am happy I did. The "cheap boutique" Primp provides you with darling options that are affordable but not as mass-produced as stores like Forever 21. I ended up having a wonderful overall experience: I was the only customer in the store during my visit but instead of having a stuffy silence, the worker was extremely friendly and helpful. I tried on a number of dresses and tops and only wish I had more money so I could've added my finds to my wardrobe. I ended up getting a dress, scarf, and earrings (all of which I have received countless compliments on). Reading other reviews, I will agree that the quality is lower than other boutiques but you are getting what you pay for. If I wanted to spend $100+ I would expect that to reflect on the quality. My friend and I were so excited to finally stop here since we had driven past it a zillion times. Unfortunately, the clothing is uninspiring and repetitive. Another fabulous little shop in St. Paul! Primp is a chic and reasonably priced little boutique that will give others (Sorry Forever 21) a run for their money! (and their clothes aren't all over the dirty floor-Sorry again Forever 21) Everything is under $100 which fo sure fits in any girls' budget and the clothing seems to be good quality for the price. Every time I pop in they have new stuff!! Not only do they carry super cute dresses, tops & coats......Primp also has really cute accessories, belts and leggings ($6 bucks) YESSSS! This is my go to store when I'm in need of a dress for any occasion. If you need a dress for the office, a vacation, day drinking, or a wedding you're attending, Primp's got you covered. I try to shop local as much as I can, but the problem with that is it can hurt my wallet. With Primp, you won't have that problem. It's very reasonably priced, and because they carry a limited number of each item, you won't have to worry about running into someone with the same outfit on (who doesn't hate that). I had heard about Primp awhile ago and drove by numerous times with all the intentions of stopping in. But I didn't get around to it until this past weekend after stopping at Bars Bakery next door. This is the cutest little shop, and the prices are so reasonable! All of the clothes are adorable, and you know that when you buy something here, there won't be thousands of other people with the same piece of clothing. I bought a dress and a shirt each for $30. They call it Cheap-Chic. I love wearing dresses and skirts and this place has plenty of them! The prices are reasonable for a boutique style store. They even offered us water as we waited in line for the dressing room. They don't have a ton of each item, so it can be a hit or miss if they have your size or not. I wish they had more dressing rooms, as every time I shop there I have to wait at least 5-10 minutes for a room to try on the clothes. It may not be a problem, if you go at off-peak shopping times. When you are done shopping, you can stop next door at the Bar's bakery for some coffee and dessert! A perfect afternoon! read more

I heard two of them once talk about how they don't get paid time and a half for hours over 40 (FT), which I think is illegal.... it might be saving the company money in the short term, but in the long run, I think they'll lose out because of the poor service in the store. I can honestly not say enough good things about this place! First of all, they are right on the corner of Selby and Dale- such a charming little corner in St Paul! I walked in on a very busy Saturday and instantly fell in love with the whole concept. Adorable store with clean racks and a wall of picture frames filled with St Paul landmarks and people. Everything I looked at was less than $50 but didn't look like it at all. Super trendy pieces to wear out and some great everyday basics for under $10! Best of all, despite the busy store, the sales associate was so nice and helpful. She offered to take my items and hold them next to the fitting rooms as my hands started to get full. I have to say, I disagree with the previous posts about quality. I bought 4 items that day and have washed each one multiple times with no issues.
