Best bakery ever! Buy the specialty cinnamon breads and make French Toast with them....you will never want French Toast the old plain way again! Lunch/dinner food is cheap and good, too! Made to order birthday cakes are a little pricy, but worth every penny. Ordered a cherry chip cake and it had pieces of real cherries in the cake! Frosting was a perfect sweetness. read more

I've been going to Goodale's for doughnuts for over 20 years with my family when we stay at our cabins on the Au Sable right outside town. The people are amazing and the doughnuts are unforgettable! As soon as you open the door you're met with the sweet smell of made from scratch goodies! Amazing doughnuts, mouth watering coffee cakes, and delicious breads! I took this place for granted when I lived here. Now that we only visit maybe once or twice a year, I like to stop at least once for the delicious, fresh donuts...something of a rarity where we live. I haven't had a bad donut yet. Definitely worth a visit or two! read more

Oh Goodale's, us long ago residents from Plymouth, MI miss you! We lost you back in the 1960's. I remember going there when I was 3 years old with my gramps and seeing the elder Mr Goodale in his store. When ever we go up north a stop at Goodales is a must. They are as good as when I was young. Excellent old school bakery where old men gather to drink coffee and bitch about local politics. Coffee is good and the baked goods are outstanding. Try the orange juice, carrot cake, or red velvet donuts for something different. Decor is straight out of 1974 but the place is clean and comfortable. Prices are good, especially for high quality baked goods and the service is excellent. I want to go there for lunch next time I'm in town. read more

I've never found a bakery that compares to Goodales. The donuts are delicious and cheap! The staff are very friendly and enjoyable. I look forward to coming home and getting a chance to stop by. The only unfortunate thing is that they are closed on Sunday's, but I suppose they are an old fashion business so they can pull that off. read more

Our daughter was married at Hartwick Pines earlier this month. Even though we are having a reception later this summer at home, I didn't was the occasion of the actual wedding to pass with out a cake. Went there for the first time a couple weeks ago. It is about an hours drive from where we live so we made a special trip based on recommendations. It was well worth the trip! All kinds of goodies - and we bought more than our share. Will be coming back in the future. read more

Love, love, love Goodale's Bakery! The cinnamon bread makes the best French toast ever! Have enjoyed coming here for 40 plus years. Love their chocolate covered cruellers (sp?) every Wednesday and Saturday. My husband said the chocolate chip cookies are the second best cookies ever( my homemade ones being the best of course). We had our wedding cake made by Goodales and it was beautiful and delicious. My favorite bakery and an absolute must stop when I'm anywhere near Grayling. read more

Very local place. We had lunch and bakery goods. All were fine but certainly not outstanding. Tuna was chunk light and mayo, turnovers were filled with pie filling, etc. Prices were very reasonable. read more

This is the best bakery one could find tucked away in a small town caught in another time period. The donuts are fresh, innovative, delicious and worth driving out of your way to get. Two stars because the donuts are good. Went for lunch and we had a few different items. Mac & cheese- kids liked. Beef pastrie was ok but cold and definitely not homemade gravy. Chili dogs were not good. Would go for donuts again, but that's it. read more

I agree with others that say some of the things ($7.59 for a coffee cake) are a bit pricey, but then the doughnuts are cheaper than most places. They also have day old, which is just as good on a shelf by the seating area. You can save a lot of money with the day old. One thing I have to dispute is I have never ever seen the place not be clean nor have I seen flies - and I've been there at least 6 times in the last two years. I have been pleased with all of the baked goods but the Albie's pasties with the gravy made from an envelope is just barely "ok." But they keep selling them, so a lot of people must like them. read more

I didn't try the donuts on our recent lunch stop at Goodale's, but did enjoy a tasty and very reasonable lunch. However, I left my purse there, and didn't realize it until a few hours later. This wouldn't be so bad, but we were in the midst of a drive from downstate to our home in the U.P., with our toddler. The kind folks at Goodale's were nice enough to send it back to me that day, saving me a long (10 hour round trip) drive back. Pretty sure your typical chain restaurant would not have gone to the trouble. We'll definitely be stopping back on our future trips down 75! read more

One of the great historical treasures of northern Michigan. I moved to Arizona a few years ago and finally broke down and ordered a dozen Packzis. Lauren was kind enough to pack them up and mail them out. Anybody that comes out for a visit will now know to bring a few treats from Goodales with them!! (Along with some Koegels of course). Welll after reading the reviews, we thought we would have to give them a try. Stopped in there bought a dozen doughnuts. They were good, especially when you consider the competition in the area, (Glens Market). As Mentioned they were good, But honestly $9,95 a dozen good? Not a chance. If you don't buy a dozen they charge you 25 cents for a box!! REALLY? These mom and pop shops wonder why they struggle keeping up with the bigger chains. They price themselves right out of business. The woman who took are order didn't impress either. Alll around I was not impressed and I will not be a repeat customer. read more

i stopped in for the first time after hearing about it for awhile. no one there seemed happy or friendly. i am a healthy person and was happy to fins a loaf of cinnamon bread that didn't have frosting glaze on it. i have a severe nut allergy and even though i didn't see any nuts on it, and i tried to read the small print ingredients (i have poor eyesight, so i wasn't certain) i asked if there were no nuts. i was told in a in-friendly manner that "if there were nuts it would be on the label." i felt like i was an inconvenience to her. the bread was good! i will probably give it another chance since i enjoyed the product, but the service was uninviting and left feeling negative. read more
