Health foods! Serious supplements. Incredible selection. I was making my way North when allergies hit me and I realized I had not brought anything with me in the way of supplements or products to keep my immune system intact. I googled furiously because I needed Vitamin D and Vitamin C, plus some of those harder-to-find supplements. This bright and clean store was right on one of the main streets in Gaylord so it was really easy to get to. I found everything I could possibly want and more. Fast forward a few months and today I realized I was out of one product I knew I had purchased there. I called and, sure enough, they had it in stock. I ordered 4 and the manager shipped them out today. You're not going to find a nice, better stocked healthy food store up North. This rivals Better Health and several stores downstate. If you're in the area, you definitely need to check out the health food store and cafe, where they make awesome pastries and "to go" meals! I highly recommend! read more

This is my first summer working at Camp Au Sable and what can I say except that THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!! Each and every food item there is deliciously delectable, and their ice cream is hands down THE BEST! Even their vegan jerky was scrumptious, which surprised both me and my friends. One of the friends I came with was even a staunch Chick-Fil-A manager-to-be and he loved it! (which is saying A LOT as he has always been a critic of anything but meat). The entire store environment was delightful and welcoming and I felt at home. And I can't say enough about Chef Larcher's paradisiacal green sauce, which tastes amazing on everything and is a must-have item when visiting. You'll be lucky to get a bite of Chef's homemade bread as well before it sells (which just goes to show how high demand it is). And the fact that those loaves were made with care by Joey just makes it even more special. To sum it all up: beautiful bread superior ice cream magical green sauce and vegan jerky that actually tastes incredible . The four stars I give the Grayling store must be taken in context. This is a Northern Michigan…read moretown where people come to visit for fishing, camping, kayaking, snowmobiling, etc. This is not Traverse City, metro Detroit or Grand Rapids. The Grayling store has a good variety of items for the area. I come here from the South Higgins lake area. The wine, beer, liquor section is larger than other Family Fares in the area. I rarely drink but my 87 year old mother gets her way and they have Sobieski Vodka which makes my mother happy. My spoiled dog (all Mom's doing) eats FreshPet dog food. The Grayling store always has a variety of it in stock. The bakery, deli and produce usually has a good stock of items. Of course, I go during the week. They have a Starbucks in the store. The only one for miles. I buy decaf coffee beans and get the Pikes Place flavor. No one else in the area carry decaf beans. The parking lot could use some improvement. It's not a first good impression--potholes and barely visible lines. It always seems trashy. Inside the store is clean. Some of the aisles are not fully clear. All the employees are usually helpful and friendly. I personally cannot imagine what it's like to work in a resort area grocery store.

Today it's table top cornhole boards. The one game even I couldn't lose at! It goes beyond the cute little shop for ice cream and local stuff. They carry many made in Michigan products. They have a nostalgic look at pop AND great ice cream. It's also fun to see the latest find on their shelves. Depending on which doggie is working, you have several petting opportunities. It's also a wonderful experience to visit with Stacy or Kate. 12/24

After a few mins the unhappy lady took us next. We said we'd need a box since we were planning on getting 9-10 donuts. She snarked, "well I'll have to charge you $.50 for the box if you don't get a dozen." Yeah we saw the sign, but isn't that the cost of doing business?! They aren't charging for wax bags, plus I'm buying 10 items (~$16 worth) which should have the box factored in anyway at only .05 per donut... which is probably the cost of the wax bag they don't charge for! Enough statistical analysis. Then we ask about the chocolate covered Bavarian cream vs. the choc cov'd custard. That sent her into a tiff as she set us straight! Basically their Bav. cream is white & custard is yellow. But most examples online showed Bav. cream as a light yellowy custard! On the bright side most of what we got was tasty. Cinnamon roll & lemonade donut was the best.

They were having post-Christmas sales, and we picked up a few toys for our son at a great deal (nothing name brand, but at 50% off, it was stuff we knew he'd love and we wouldn't be upset if it didn't last). We walked in just to look...and walked out with armfuls of stuff--from wrapping paper to Teddy Grahams to fleece blankets ($3!) to Sixlet candies (nostalgia!). They had a lot of name brand stuff at decent prices--I was really surprised. The store was very clean, bright, and well-stocked--and the shelves were organized and the aisles were clear. The cashier was also super nice and friendly. If we lived here, we'd certainly shop here on a regular basis!

This is nearly always my last stop on the way out of Grayling. Coffee is always fresh, more…read moresubstantial than typical gas station java but cheaper than Starbucks. The crew is always friendly and efficient, even when, as often is the case, a group of locals is hanging about chatting with them. I get some snacks there too, or ice when I'm camping. If it's something you usually get at a convenience store it's there, and the buying experience isn't unpleasant. All I can ask of a 7-11.

Latest visit was last week and we were going to arrive right around kitchen closing (9:30pm). Called in an order and they held it for us/let us eat inside and grab beers. Appreciated that greatly after a long drive. A handful of plant based options like tacos, bowls, and pita sandwiches. I ordered tacos and the pita and both were yummy. Beers are solid and they have other breweries too. Plus cider. The seating options are plentiful (long bar, small and large tables). They can accommodate large groups. The decor is cool inside too. Will absolutely keep coming here when I find myself up north.
