This is a must visit bakery. I had a slice of white cake for $2.95 and it was delicious and tasted like they used almond flavoring for the frosting. The cinnamon roll was amazing. The sugar cookie with icing was ok. The bakery has breads, cakes, cookies, hot food, sandwiches. There are tables inside to dine or benches outside. read more

Gluten free goodies, local favorites, amazing donuts, dips, smoked meats, Asa was great and helped me get what I needed with a smile. Great spot to read the paper and ponder. Had a lemon poppyseed gluten free cake and an hour later my belly is happy : ) great snacks, affordable, fun mugs and just a local institution that is 100% worth getting off the highway for. My family loves ginger cookies and we were excited to find some at Goodale's bakery in Grayling. Unfortunately, they turned out to not have any ginger in them and were grossly underbaked. The cookies were damp and doughy and tasted of cinnamon and cardboard, so we cannot recommend them. The bakery is inviting but the baked goods need better flavor and texture. Margarine? Caramel food coloring? Artificial flavoring? Why would anyone add caramel food coloring or artificial flavoring to cookies?!?Especially to ginger cookies! They should be full of flavor and naturally caramel-colored. Ugh! They have do have delicious fresh and frozen pasties and the staff is friendly. read more

When I first walked in I thought Goodale's was a tourist trap bakery because I thought the bread prices seemed high. But as I made my way to the donut and baked goods counter I quickly changed my mind. Cinnamon rolls, apple sticks, almond paste bars were all very good and reasonably priced. We also bought their pasties and they were very good even though we had to reheat them at home. Can't wait to stop there again. read more

We have driven by this place over a hundred times and this is the first time we stopped. I can guarantee we will be stopping by every time from now on. They have a wide selection of sweets, breads, cookies, donuts, pasties, and much much more. They have a small seating area for a coffee and a donut or for lunch. The very kind lady, spoke very highly of their house made sandwiches, soups and warm pasties for lunch. Service with a smile, the women that waited on us, was extremely knowledgeable, kind, and friendly. She reported that the bavarium cream and custard were house made. We both got a Bavarian cream filled donut, they were perfection (best I've ever had)! Maple Cinnamon & sour cream were also amazing! We grabbed some pasties for dinner tonight, they look sooo good, can't wait to try them out (being my husband grew up in the up). Stopped in today for some baked goods - I was impressed with all of the offerings they had. I got a cinnamon coffee cake (really good), some cinnamon sugar cookies (they weren't that good), as well as some doughnuts. The doughnuts were great - cinnamon sugar doughnut, Bavarian cream filled, double chocolate glaze, and a glazed twist. The inside was clean and everything was organized nicely. The older lady who helped me was very sweet. I will definitely stop back in when I am back in the area. read more

I've been dying to write a review for Goodale's!! Coming from Chicago.. we have our fair share of bakery's. But not many of them give me the warm fuzzy feeling inside like Goodale's does. Every time I walk in I'm tempted by the amazing selection of bread loaves and coffee cakes.. we've gotten the apple cinnamon loaf before and made french toast with it- GAME CHANGER. Really recommend anyone to do the same :). Last time I was in was a realllll treat, as we were about to pay we were told that paczki's were coming out fresh if we wanted to put in an order. Ummm don't have to ask this polack twice! ;) These were some of the best paczki's I've had, no joke. Most definitely the biggest selection I've seen. We went with the blueberry stuffed and the Bavarian Cream stuffed.. both were out of this world. I also love the donuts, everything from the blueberry fried, or chocolate covered cherry, I also love the apple pastry and elephant ears. Overall you cannot beat this place! Still my favorite donut stop en route up north!! Their cream and custard filled are really fresh and FILLED! You can also pick up pasties, bread, coffee cakes, etc but their donuts are the star! *note: if you're nervous at all about COVID, neither employees nor customers, except 1 other person and myself, were wearing masks and this place is a major stop for people from downstate, bringing the virus with them. I wore a mask and moved quickly but you might encounter lines here due to its popularity. read more

We've been going here for over 20 years! Love this place. It's a crucial part to our summer vacation at Higgins Lake. Getting up early a couple times a week to make a donut run is the best. Their donuts are delicious!! The cherry fry is to die for and nothing beats their cream filled chocolate rounds! We come for donuts and always end up picking up beef sticks, oreo fluff, coffee cake, a turnover... whatever looks good! The only problem is that everything looks good!! read more

I have lived in the area for eight years now and have used Goodale's bakery previously without any problems. Saturday morning I ordered a Fourth of July birthday cake for my husband to be picked up on the following Monday since Tuesday was the holiday and his birthday. Pictured is the cake that I ordered. I was extremely unhappy with the decor, it looked like a five-year-old had decorated it. It was supposed to have a Fourth of July theme and instead, it looked like an explosion in a cake factory! The piping on the edge of the cake had green streaks and was very erratic. The writing was sloppy and the artwork was, uh, very juvenile. I guess it was supposed to be an exploding firecracker! The owner offered me no discount and said go get one at Family Fair. He said his regular decorator could sweep the decoration off and redo it this evening (Monday night shift) The bakery is closed tomorrow for the 4th. What about my party on the 4th? So this review is deserving. The cake looks like #%*&! Don't order a decorated cake there! read more

Just recently I have had a reason to be driving past this bakery on a weekly basis. I just couldn't resist,I love a good bakery. Unfortunately, the first time I stopped in was Christmas Eve. Their shelves and cases were pretty empty, but I still found something to get. I decided to buy a bag of chocolate chip cookies. While I was paying for them, the clerk told me that their bakery was famous for their apple cinnamon bread. Well, you have to buy one if they make a statement like that. I do have to agree it was delicious, it wasn't in the house five minutes before my wife and I started digging into it. She did tell me that it makes amazing French toast, we will have to try that on a future date. I did stop in on New Year's Eve, they had more things in stock that day and it all looked delicious. I ended up buying a turkey sandwich and an apple turnover. They have very inexpensive prices for the quality food they sell. This is based upon my experience there November 6, 2020. I am sending a message. The food is a 5, but they have one cantankerous female employee that basically was hostile and down right rude. I will come back one time to get her name to add to the Hall of Shame. I had a gift certificate there and it seemed like a huge hassle for her to assist me. I bought some pasties and doughnuts. In fact I just finished one of the delicious Pasties for lunch just now. The doughnuts (I had sour cream) were absolutely outstanding. I just wish you could do something about the rude employee. It was not just me either. I listened to the way she treated other customers and fellow employees. True, I don't know what is going on in her life to make her this way, but if this is the norm, show her the door. With my luck, she is a family member and will be there forever. I never wanted to get my purchase and run more than I did here. read more

You can be pretty sure a place is good when the locals stream in and are greeted by name. This is the kind of place Goodale's Bakery is. I can't attest to the sweets, although they sure smelled good. But the chicken pasty with gravy was delectable, with a tender, flaky crust, and a filling containing plenty of identifiable and taste-able veggies along with the chicken. read more

I was in there about 11am this morning and it pains me to say this but the lady working behind the counter was beyond RUDE. You guys were fairly busy but when the counter person tells me and my son "What do you want QUICKLY", I should have left on the spot. However, my wife wanted a cinnamon roll and you're the only place in town. I understand that we all have bad days, but she was above and beyond NASTY. My family has been going here for years and it has been a staple during our summer camping trips. I've never had anything bad to say about the doughnuts and food here. It's decent yk hits the spot. The service itself though leaves something to be desired. The ladies working were visibly upset when we walked in and just overall were not very nice or excited to have customers there. Was so excited to see the sign for a bakery! Went in excited for an Apple fritter or some other deliciousness, but sadly no. Rude counter staff- dismissive and rushing though only one other customer was in the shop and four employees. The food looked amazing, and we only tried the baked goods, but they were not good. The cinnamon roll was not crisp on the outside- cooked and boxed overnight? The cherry doughnut tasted like the worst of boxed cake and also moist on the outside- gummy sugar coating. Finally, the custard in what I was rudely told was not an eclair (though shaped like one) was definitely stores in a fridge with some savory food item that was unwrapped or poorly stored- tasted awful.
