Well marbled, and cut thick, they looked delicious even before I threw them on the Lodge cast iron skillet. After a hard sear, and finished in the oven, they were ready to be devoured. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! This place is a rip-off. We went here a couple days ago to buy shrimp, even though we now live on the west side of TC. They used to have great shrimp at a fairly reasonable price. The bulk shrimp was $17.99/lb. and usually the 2.5 lb bags are less per pound than the bulk shrimp (an incentive to get you to buy more.) But the 2.5lb bag was $53.97 which is more than 17.99/lb. When I questioned them about the discrepancy, they said the 2.5 lb bag was actually 3 lbs. Can you say "Shyster"? The shrimp tasted moldy and was certainly not worth the cost. It's farm raised in India! Will no longer be supporting this business. read more

This place is absolutely my style. Yes fresh whitefish dip, other smoked local fish, fresh and frozen, Boarshead meats, well stocked unique wines, craft and regular beers and fresh walnut cherry bread. They have all the healthy grain chips to accompany all the cheese and dip snacks plus a mini market in the back of the store. I came by one day and there was a man barbecuing something yummy fresh for the lunch crowd. They also make yummy all Boarshead sammies, chips and a pickle for $5.95. Sammies aren't available late in the evening but everything else was. I'm not a big drinker but was impressed with the higher quality of wines available and one of the men working there was quite knowledgeable in case you're into vino. The only thing which mystified me is that I've never seen this awesome little market in all my years visiting Traverse City. The current owners have owned it for 13 years. Don't miss out on this fun lil market. It's across from the Beach Haus Hotel. Sure beats Tom's in uniqueness! read more

I just discovered Bayside Market 2 weeks ago and I love it. A lot. The selection and quality of meat are amazing and Tom the butcher is awesome. I've taken every one of his recos and each one has been a hit at home. They also have a lot of really great cheese (the Prairie Breeze and Beemster are outstanding). I made my first trip to The Bayside Market today since it has changed ownership, it was disappointing to say the least. I was hoping to get a few New York strip steaks to grill for dinner. They had four steaks in varying shades of brown. I asked if there were any others to choose from and was told no by the young man behind the meat counter. I passed on that. This was at approximately 5:30 pm primetime for customers looking to by something for dinner. The previous owners always had the meat cooler stocked, and a butcher or the owner on hand to meet customers needs. This place has fallen drastically since Dan sold it. It's a deli, plus they have beef jerky. The plain and mesquite varieties are excellent, the turkey tenderloin not so much, but the pay-by-the-pound setup allows for a diverse jerky tasting. The produce section isn't huge but I've appreciated the fresh Fuji apples, not like those places that think a wrinkled Red Delicious is sufficient. read more

We loved Bayside Market and visited it for several years, then we noticed changes we weren't and aren't happy with. Our guess is the store changed ownership. The BBQ used on the ribs and chicken that used to be prepared on the grill located just outside the entrance tastes different. Different spices or something and we don't care for it. The jerky sticks (Hickory, Mesquite, Teriyaki) also taste different than they used to. Not fans. And finally, what is up with using onions in all of their salads? Cole slaw and potato salad do not need onions, and taste better without them. Ugh. Disappointed, so we don't plan on returning. read more

Purchased fresh basil and artichoke spread. When I got home and opened it up I found mold. I turned it over and looked at the sell by date which was 3/8/12. I bought it on 4/20/12. Another time I was in the store a worker was using the vacuum. After waiting at the register for 3 minutes watching her vacuum, I finally asked her if she could help me? She sighed and gave me a dirty look. I will never be back. They have never offered to help me find anything and have never said thank you for shopping here. Do not go to this store. read more

This is such a great little market if you are staying in the area. They have a nice deli counter with a bunch of great cheeses. They have large freezers with seafood that they will steam for you to go. And lots of fish, sausage (some they make) if you have somewhere to cook it. The owner also told me they do a bbq every friday afternoon and that it sells out quickly. They have a nice beer and wine selection - they have some local wine, french, italian, australian - pretty impressive for a little market. read more

This place has gone way downhill since the new owners took over. I have tried to get a decent sandwich several times over the past 6 months, and they can never get it right. It's very unfortunate, because this place used to be a regular stop for me. I will no longer recommend Bayside Market to family, friends, co workers or guests at the hotel I manage just down the street. I have personally reached out to management to give them feedback and a chance to make things right, but they just cannot get it together. Makes me sad because I had been a big supporter since 2001 when I moved to the area. Good bye Bayside! You lost one of your biggest fans. read more
