Blue Heron is the place to eat breakfast or lunch in Cadillac. At least, that's what I was told by many locals, and I was told to get the fresh donuts, too. Unfortunately, they were out of donuts when I visited! It was a bummer, but maybe you'll be luckier than I was and you can enjoy a donut for me. They have a kids' menu here, with breakfast items like oatmeal & toast, scrambled eggs & ham, and cheesy scrambled eggs & toast on the breakfast menu, and grilled cheese, ham & cheese sandwich, and pb&j on the lunch menu. My children were being petulant when we visited and didn't want to order anything, so they sat there while I enjoyed my breakfast. But if you have kids who actually want to eat while visiting Blue Heron, you're in good hands! I enjoyed my Farmers Omelet, which came with bacon, chorizo (made in-restaurant), caramelized onions, sweet potatoes and white cheddar. It was an unusual omelet (who thinks to put sweet potatoes in an omelet?), and it was delicious. It was a wee bit sweet because of the sweet potatoes and caramelized onions, but ask for some hot sauce and it will all balance itself out. Omelets come with potatoes. The black coffee here is great, and comes in nice, sturdy coffee cups. You can ask for a cup of coffee to go at the end of your meal and they'll give you one. read more

After vigorously searching for a lunch to eat lunch while driving up north, we stopped t the Blue Heron cafe & bakery. WHAT A DELIGHT! The food is incredibly fresh and the menu is exactly what we wanted (breakfast plates, soups, salads, and sandwiches. My husband cannot stop talking about how delicious the meatloaf sandwich was and I had a veggie scramble with potatoes and toast. You can definitely tell that they prep their plates with care because they are beautiful! Mary was our waitress and you can just tell she is a gem to the community of Cadillac. We will be stopping here every trip up North and back! Don't waste your time with the breweries or pizza shops for lunch- this is as good as it gets! read more

How many times the first place you visit becomes your favorite? Snuck in for lunch and got the Lunch Flight: ham sandwich, soup, salad and a cookie. Let's start with the ambiance, of they say "Where bakery meets cafe" and it is accurate. Amazing donuts, bread and bagels for sale. Higher Grounds coffee is served and they have breakfast all day. I really thought about the stuffed pepper: chorizo, eggs, etc. in a roasted red pepper (I saw another person with it and it looked amazing) but I really wanted lunch. The Lamb Stew was excellent: thick and hearty. The sandwich was stellar and the salad was amazing. We had asked them to use the sourdough rye for our bread and when we were going to leave the server brought us the remainder of the loaf to take home. We were just blown away by their their kindness. Delicious Farmer's omelette and Strawberry Rhubarb filled sourdough pancakes. I got an Apple fritter for later and it was the best I ever had. This place was pleasantly surprising. Good portions for a decent price. My friend was looking for gluten-free options, and they had both gluten-free bread AND cookies! We had the zucchini frittata, with very nicely cooked potatoes, and yummy toast (sourdough and gluten-free) with a nice triple-berry jam. It was packed on a Tuesday afternoon, and we could see why! Based on it's high Yelp rating a group of us decided to stop in for breakfast while passing through the area. The service was fast and friendly. They were able to accommodate a group of ten of us without a problem. Most of us decided to try the Farmers Omelette which was fantastic. Their baked goods also looked scrumptious so I grabbed some muffins for the road. The Michigan Fruit muffin was moist and bursting with flavor. I wouldn't hesitate to stop here again. read more

Blue Heron is offering a sweet dinner deal while we are all sheltered in place. We got the lasagna meal which came with a salad, half a loaf of fresh bread, and cookies. The meal was supposedly for four but fed my family for dinner and lunch the next day! The lasagna was a very traditional lasagna. While yummy, I wished there was more ricotta. Both were delicious! Friendly cafe with lots of healthy choices. We also bought a loaf of their homemade bread. Making our way from the UP back to St Louis, we made a totally random choice to pull off in Cadillac for breakfast. A quick google search and we found this cafe. Whoa! It was an awesome surprise. A lot of fresh ingredients. The menu was creative and original. Honestly didn't see anything on the menu that you could consider to be a typical breakfast item. Highlights: The sausage bowl with the house made sausage was really tasty and filling. The Ham and Cheese Breakfast sandwich was stellar and huge. The blackberry preserves on that ham sandwich made it. The misses loved the fluffy Garden Omelet. My son found the Pesto Scrambler to be very tasty even though the thought of pesto in scrambled eggs sounded gross to me. My daughter had one of he housemade bagels and liked it a lot. Two special mention should go to the breakfast potatoes and the sourdough wheat toast. Wow to both!!! I now wish I was driving through Cadillac soon. The best part about Cadillac! This place is such an adorable cafe. They have a reasonable lunch special daily (combo of soup, salad and sandwich!) and everything tastes very fresh.
