During negotiations, the project cost unexpectedly increased by $50,000, which led me to reconsider moving forward. At that time, I was explicitly told the deposit would be refunded if I chose not to proceed. After I declined, communication stopped entirely. Then, three weeks later, I received an email reversing that position, stating the deposit would not be refunded and had been applied to "pre-construction/design services." We are very happy with the work that Carlos and crew at Good Neighbor Construction performed. From the outset, Carlos was down to earth, professional and no pressure whatsoever. I started the design for an ADU about a year ago. I was very fortunate to find and hire Good Neighbor Construction to build it. Construction started last July. Carlos is great to work with. His crews did a great job. Carlos kept me very informed throughout the process. We exchanged hundreds of texts and we met frequently to discuss the progress and any changes in the scope of work. The plumber for the project happens to be his younger brother Alex (Simple Plumbing), who did a great job. I was very impressed with his attention to details. I didn't hesitate to call Alex to fix an emergency water leak in the existing house. All the exterior work has been completed and I couldn't be more satisfied with the outcome so far.
