There are significant issues with the quality of our kitchen remodel. The skill level of the carpenters of our cabinets is very poor. No quality control on much of the work that was done to our home. Not worth what we paid. I would not recommend this company. read more

I reached out to Ben to schedule an appointment to discuss my home renovation. Ben met with me within a week of first contacting him to see the scope of work I had in mind for my home and it was very obvious with the way he spoke and discussed his work that he is a knowledgeable and experienced general contractor. He knows everything regarding proper codes and permits needed for any type of construction work and how to get a job done in a timely manner. Although I really wanted to work with him, he was unfortunately out of my budget and we could not continue working together. However, about a month later I had an issue with my renovation and I thought of him and how knowledgeable he is and decided to reach out to him again to seek advice. Ben remembered me and was immediately offering to listen and offer advice. He could've blown me off or ignored me as he is a very busy GC, but he was extremely helpful and took time out of his busy schedule to speak to me and just share his knowledge in any way to help me. I recently used LBC for some reconstruction on my home after flooding. Ben the owner was a pleasure to work with and his crew was polite and helpful. His prices were reasonable. They were always on-time and if not they called to let me know beforehand. When the work was finished I had no trouble getting a few items touched up. They replaced drywall, installed tile, installed a new bathroom vanity and countertop, installed a new toilet, did the plumbing for sink and toilet, and painted the walls. The crew always cleaned up after the days work. The main thing to take away from this review is Ben is HONEST and follows through with what he says he will do. We had an appointment for a quote on our detached garage. Looking to take out the garage door and reframe for a smaller opening to fit in french doors. Ben arrived on time within the hour time frame, which is appreciated because often times people show up later than expected or not at all. It was clear from talking to him that he knows his stuff, especially permit wise, but the delivery needs some work. Anytime we asked questions he responded in a rude and condescending manner. After working with LBC for 2 months I've learned to read the negative reviews! I agree with Jilleen, Andrew & Justin on Ben's poor communication skills. We were told the guys would arrive by 9am, at 10 am they were a no show. We text Ben to find out that hey would not be coming that day. (This happened repeatedly.) I agree with Omar about Ben's condescending tone & being rude. I agree with Andrew that Ben lies. I agree with Heidi & Justin on awful customer service. And, I agree with Andrew & Liz that Ben loves as many "change orders" as he can get to put more money in his pocket. Therefore I also agree with Sarah & Kristina that Ben is unprofessional! It was our fault that we did not get a very detailed contract from Ben. We had many issues where Ben wanted change orders to do our remodel the way we wanted or expected it would be done. Thinking that Ben wanted to do things right was wrong on our part. He is in business to make money like all contractors. We wanted to re-use a lazy susan in the corner kitchen cabinet - "No, I don't do that". We wanted one upper cabinet saved so we could put it in our garage - "No, we don't do that". We have 7 lights in our kitchen all on one switch and no GFCI - which is against code. We were also left with a 1.75" gap between the back of our new range and the wall due to a gas line coming in high on the kitchen wall (older home). Ben wanted change orders for all these things. We would have thought that a quality GC would want to do things right and include these these in a contract. Get a very detailed contact if you can tolerate Ben's personality & chose to work with him. Bear in mind that he does not do the work, he orchestrates it. He is the one you have to communicate with on an very regular basis. The quartz guys arrived after 11am and continued to work until 8:20pm! They should have arrived earlier. Ben's plumber must not have been familiar with installing a Grohe faucet that was purchased on eBay - open box (returned item). It was very loose the day they left but worked. We used for about 4 days (since they could not come out any earlier to tighten it) until we heard a crack when my husband was using it - it broke! Edges of cabinets shelving were splintered and wood lifted. Electricians had to access the kitchen ceiling through our garage to install can lighting, so they cut a hole; it was never repaired. The quartz guys damaged the side wall. Ben also told us that we have a 9" overhang on our peninsula, it is only 5'5". We had a 5" thick existing wall that was reduced in height. If a new wall had been installed (instead of using our existing wall, it probably would have been thinner giving us a 9" overhang. Ben's math was wrong. We had little to no problem with this hired help. For the most part they were polite and cleaned up fine at the end of the day. I even have contact information from 2 of them for possible future work needs. We offered an outdoor patio table to one of them - free for the taking. Ben is your contact if you hire him; he is also the problem. It was so stressful working with Ben that we chose to hire others to correct the work that was not done correctly or poorly rather deal with Ben's personality and over-priced change orders from him. Had an appointment with this guy bright and early in the morning. Got up way early which my (at the time 9 month pregnant self) was not into. He texts my husband saying he's running 30 min behind. 30 minutes pass, 45... 1 hr.... Nothing. My husband calls him and he tells us another 30 mins or so. We canceled. I gave a top rating because they are easy to work with and gave clean quotes. If I had ordered the right dog door the project would have been done on time. This was during the beginning of the shut downs so things had to be put on hold for a short amount of time. The job is clean and I am very happy with the work Mel did. We had Ben come to the house to give us an estimate to add cement board and install fascia stone around a fireplace. He showed up on time, was very knowledgeable and we were ready to hire him. However, when we called for one final question and to schedule, the estimate doubled with no explanation given other than that he would "never" have quoted us the price he originally gave. The first price was in the ballpark of what others had quoted so our impression was he simply didn't want to do the work. This is my first negative Yelp review ever. First, as another person mentioned, they showed up with no mask, even when my mother met him with a mask. Second, they made it quite clear that they DO NOT work outside of 8am - 5pm Monday through Thursday and 8am - 3pm Friday PERIOD. I work full time and my husband travels for work, so taking a day off to get a quote on a home addition is not something I was expecting to do, however, the lady who scheduled my appointment said that I could have someone there to meet Ben. So my mother, who lives next door, was there when Ben arrived. My mother then called me with Ben on speaker, and he proceeded to tell me that it was hard for him to give a quote without me there or at least on the phone, yet even though I was on the phone, he reiterated that he really needed me there to give me an accurate quote, unless I just wanted a ball park quote. So I said okay, then I guess I'll take a ball park quote, and then he stated AGAIN that he really needed me there to give the quote. By this point, it was quite obvious that he did not want to give the quote for our home addition. I brought up the issue that it seemed a little ridiculous to not provide hours outside of the above mentioned hours to meet with homeowners, and he stated that the evenings and weekends are for his family, and that he is already working 60 hours a week...... I asked where he was working these 60 hours a week when you specified that you do not work outside of the 43 hour window of hours mentioned above (assuming you do not take any lunches). He may do wonderful work, but I just felt there was no flexibility with this company, and that they honestly did not want to do the work. He followed up with a text message stating that if I wanted to schedule a 2 to 3 hour quote with him during their normal hours of operation, to give him a call. Thank you, but that's a hard pass. UPDATE: There is clearly a lack of communication regarding how they do quotes, as I was told that it was fine to have my mother there, only to find out the day of that it wasn't. I have received two rough quotes from other contractors to use as a budgeting tool, so a rough quote could have been given. I suggest informing potential customers that you absolutely cannot do quotes without them present. read more

They showed up on time for my estimate, gave a slightly higher than what I felt was the market average price but clearly they are detail oriented and are people I would consider for future work. LBC recently finished my shower remodel. They changed my claustrophobic 1956 shower in to a spacious and beautiful modern one. Ben, the owner/contractor, listened very carefully to what I needed and wanted , and then came up with better Ideas that were still in my budget. Don't waste your time.....I took time off work for this appointment and feel like it was a complete waste of my time. First red flag.....He didn't have a tape measure or a clipboard to write anything down or take measurements. He claimed he had a great memory. Second red flag....Off the top of his head he quoted $15,000 for doing approximately 20 yards of concrete. Absurd price when I know how much a yard of concrete costs and my husband can pump it too! They just needed to form it up and finish it. Third red flag.....Everything he said was contradicting. He blew off most of my ideas. I honestly felt like he was not interested in the job at all. His body language showed it. He asked me about other quotes I have received and straight up said to go with the other guy. Overall...He said it would be close to $100,000 and for what we are doing is ridiculous, especially since he didn't take one measurement!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We aren't moving walls, adding bathrooms or replacing cabinets in the kitchen. Pretty simple in our book as its just a face lift inside. I felt completely blown off from the start. He claims anyone who criticizes him is a "business basher," seriously check his responses to all his negative reviews and to take a look at my reviews. Please, read my other reviews. 2. He intentionally arrived unprepared, refused a customer request to review my wife's designs, lied to my wife that he had reviewed it when he was on site, even after I said his participation required him to review them 3. He shits on anyone else's work, especially when it is inspected by the city. He obviously has a poor understanding of California and city code. (Seriously he doesn't know what a Thermostatic Valve is or that sub panels attached to the same structure as the main panel does not require a main breaker as it isn't the point of entry for power on the building). 4. He conveniently forgot that I required permits for all work he bid, (I hid the fact that it was an insurance project for bathroom replacement, as I required a permit after bathroom restoration to receive the final insurance check as some of his own reviewers indicate he price gouges insurance companies) 5. He obviously has not read my other reviews as he is the only contractor to come to my house that received a negative review (the other contractor never showed). So obviously has a problem reading (kind of explains his lack of reading emails actually) 6. Is apparently sexist as he completely neglected to talk to or even mention my wife in his 'scathing' rebuttal, considering that it is her designs he snubbed. 7. Obviously hasn't been doing contracting a terribly long time, he didn't recognize a professional asbestos or mold remediation. Or that he realized that when out of scope work such as -bringing something up to code that is found in a permit/work inspection- on a home made 50 years ago is discovered he can actually get more money out of the customer, especially when that customer explicitly requested all his work must be permitted. --- We reached out to LBC to see if they were interested in quoting a Bathroom remodel job. It took three Yelp responses to get them to send me their email to send our bathroom designs and when their owner Ben Loveridge came out for a site survey it was obvious he hadn't even read the email. As we did a walk around of what we wanted Ben kept indicating that some of the things that we wanted were against code and were not possible. Lucky for us one of the things he said was against code had previously been permitted by the city (electrical). I then started to look into some of his code claims and found out that about half of them were bullshit. When I asked him to send me the violated code as well re-iterated that we wanted the job permitted he became flaky. We kept getting messages a week later asking us if 25K was ok, 30K was ok, mid 30's was OK without actually sending us a quote before he sent an email back saying that our job wasn't big enough for him. It was obvious that Ben intended to take advantage of us, and once he realized he was in a competitive bid with other contractors he flaked out. I would not recommend LBC unless you want to pay for a bathroom that they want at their price point. read more

In two and a half days they were able to install nine windows and a sliding glass door. The quality of the windows is amazingly better than what we had and Ben was very straightforward regarding which windows are good given our goals. My concrete tile roof needed to be re-felted, a very old patio needed to be demolished, and a new patio installed. Having a distant history in construction, he appeared to be very competent and reasonable. This all proved to be true as work began. First, Ben's crew removed the tiles. As changes were needed, additional costs were reasonable and upfront. Then the roof was re-felted and complete within two days, amazing. His crew was professional and courteous. I found this company on Yelp. After reading the reviews and looking at the pictures of jobs they had completed, I left a message to contact me. Ben called that day and came to meet with me the very next day. I wanted to update my kitchen with new cabinets, countertops and flooring and change out a wall oven and get a full size stove. Ben had some great ideas I hadn't even thought of. He said we could move the counter out to my sliding glass door giving me 24" inches more room. Also to open up the door way to show off my new kitchen. I went for it and am so happy I did! My kitchen looks twice as big and is so light and beautiful. He also made me a built in pantry on one wall, it is just fabulous!! They also gave me new flooring throughout the house. I picked a difficult style (unbeknownst to me) but they did it, it took a bit longer than expected but they persevered and got it done and it's beautiful. His employees are polite, friendly and courteous. I am so pleased. When I get some more money together I will have them come back and remodel my bathrooms. I hired Ben to do a bathroom and laundry remodel in our 118 year old home. He was quick to respond to my initial call and came out right away to give me an estimate. He spent the time to explain the process to me and had a very thorough contract that explained exactly what I could expect in terms of costs and what would be done. Because of the age of my house, I knew there would be bumps along the way, and their certainly were some hidden surprises in my floors and walls, but Ben worked with me on all of those and handled the problems quickly and professionally. He was quick to respond to phone calls and frequently took the time to come by and look at things and give me updates. His crew was professional and with me working from home while they were there, I got a good chance to see their work ethic. All of them were hard workers who cared about what they were doing. We have just completed a comprehensive renovation of our 3000 sq foot home with LBC. We are very pleased with the outcome. Our project included: removal of 40 year old wall paper, popcorn ceilings, carpet and tile throughout the tri-level.Ben Loveridge was very timely in responding to our many texts and calls and attentive to details in this large scale project. His core crew were very dedicated to getting the work done right, even if they had to return to make this happen.The crew was very easy to be around as they were often there with us daily day after day; respectful and friendly, as we worked from home.
