I've been a GoodEggs customer since the beginning and stuck with them through their expansion and contraction, their shift from a "farmer's market" delivery service to a full-fledged specialty service, their incredible Thanksgiving fiasco, the pandemic - all of it. I try and try to overcome the problems they have, but I think I am just done. The quality of their products is fine, nice even. But ultimately they are a service business - with a focus on delivery. And they just cannot get their delivery system right. Things come late, smashed, wet from melted ice packs, peaches bruised at the bottom of a box. Some frozen and canned items have dirt on them as if their warehouses must go uncleaned. Everything needs to be about the people who work there and the delivery-hand in hand. I cannot help but think that employees are not happy, because of the way things are thrown in boxes and delivered. I hate complaining but I always complain to them because I want them to get better, but they don't. I get the same message over and over again about how they care. And yes, now tipping. If you pay your employees well and cultivate a good working community where people feel appreciated, I have to think that these problems wouldn't exist. Now, I have to contend with the idea that if I don't tip, delivery service will be worse?! I suppose I will miss the convenience of it all, and some of the products, but I think I will just do without. read more

Good Eggs has a ton of potential, but keeps messing up the basics. First, the positives: 1) user-friendly, easy-to-order website; 2) responsive customer service; 3) will readily refund for errors, missing items, rotten items, etc; 4) overall polite & professional CSRs; 5) good variety of specialty items; 6) all organic produce; 7) I discovered some unusual brands through GE that I really like; 8) nice shipping boxes and the ability to recycle them w/ your next order; 9) in general, my orders arrive within the delivery window, and I haven't had any trouble receiving them; once or twice the drivers failed to follow delivery instructions that are *clearly* detailed in the order, which creates a bit of a mess, but that has been the exception. Now for the negatives: 1) I often receive rotten produce. It's not just a little bruised or otherwise ugly in an edible kind of way, it's simply not edible. Sometimes I report it to Good Eggs w/ photos and they refund it, and sometimes I don't feel like bothering with that, and I eat the cost of the rotten produce. Their order fulfillment staff needs to be better trained, but the ability to identify rotten and/or unusable produce shouldn't have to be trained into a person, it's pretty much common sense; 2) poor, careless, thoughtless packing of grocery items -- bruising, breakage, and other damage are common in my orders due to this and I usually don't report it because it's a time-consuming pain in the arse; 3) I've had items missing too many times (incl things I've needed for special events), and sometimes I'll get items that I didn't order; 4) I used to order Good Eggs prepared food, but the quality, freshness, and presentation has gone down since I first started ordering with GE, and I don't order it anymore. I'm at the point where I might continue to order with GE for packaged items only, but never for produce unless it's an emergency. I like to give small, local companies my business over stores like Whole Foods/Amazon, but I have to admit that WF packs their grocery items much better, and I've never received inedible produce from them, or damaged or broken items. read more

Just want to give kudos to the staff at Good Eggs for the on-time delivery and neatly packaged food! I heard about this company a year ago from a coworker who raved about it, but never had to use them until now due to COVID-19/ shelter-in-place orders. My parents were having a hard time going out and buying food due to many restaurants being closed or whatnot. I purchased ready-made food through Good Eggs and they loved it! I'll be ordering again. If there is one area to improve it is to ensure more food are in stock. I notice many entrees sold out. I love this delivery service! Easy. No subscription. Great one pot meals! I 100% find the prices on par with Safeway. However, you can get very fancy products and spend lots of money, too. I've been using Good Eggs on and off since 2014. This business has so much potential but always has fallen short due to simple operations issues. I'm perplexed as to why they have never and likely will never be able to work out the basics of a grocery delivery service yet they're clearly able to master product selection like no other. I really want them to figure it out and make it work so I can use the service regularly and recommend it to others, but will that day ever come? The issues are the same as described in any of the other reviews, but I want to emphasize a critical (breaking) point: Good Eggs will get something wrong every single time. I have probably placed 30 orders with Good Eggs over the cross section of several years and literally every single one has had an issue: undelivered goods, damaged goods, old goods, goods I didn't even order, goods that were falsely advertised, you name it. The comment about melted ice cream is on point. It will happen every time, which is a shame because it's such an otherwise convenient way to get Bi-Rite ice cream. Like other reviewers, I tried the service again after a long hiatus to see if any improvements had been made. When my roommate saw me unboxing my Good Eggs order, she asked how it is. I told her it's only okay, because there's always a problem. Sure enough, I pulled out a can of beer instead of the four pack I ordered. What? Good Eggs does not even sell individual cans of beer. So how I ended up with a lone can of beer seems next to impossible. But with Good Eggs, any error is surely possible. I exchanged emails, voicemails, and phone calls with customer service, trying to get the rest of my beer, and even scheduled a redelivery that never happened. We've been ordering groceries for a few months now. The food has been delicious. I particularly like Good Eggs because their delivery team goes above and beyond. They always make sure to deliver my groceries to my door vs just leaving them in a random spot. We just participated in their fundraising program and Heidi, the manager of the program, was great and made everything so easy! The one issue: their food often expires in 2 days or less. read more

I've used Good Eggs four times and three of those times, something went wrong. Twice, they forgot an item. The second time, the item was out of stock by the time I contacted them, so I got a refund when really I wanted the item I ordered to complete the recipe I wanted to make. I was an early customer of Good Eggs, even though I live 2 minutes from a Trader Joe's. They have some interesting products and I like the idea of delivery. The issue--deliveries are late consistently, it is 3:37PM on a Saturday and I'm waiting for a delivery scheduled from noon-2PM, with an "update" that they'd be here by 3:10PM. I've pretty much lost a Saturday to waiting for Good Eggs to show. Granted, it's stormy out, but either reduce the number of deliveries or be more realistic with your times. I've been a Good Eggs customer since the beginning, and have recommended this local company to SO MANY people. Like many other people writing these reviews, I was also a victim of the "Good Eggs Thanksgiving 2020 Debacle." I get it - not having a Thanksgiving meal is 100% a problem of the privileged. I have my health. I have a job that allows me to buy this pricey food. And yet . . . if Good Eggs knew there was a problem on Wednesday, I would have liked to have known on Wednesday, not at the crack of dawn on Thursday. Like others, I received a text message on Wednesday, saying my order was delayed. I received multiple message, pushing my order back further and further. I waited up until 1 am (not wanting my food to go bad--or get stollen--if the GE driver left it on my porch in the middle of the night). I eventually went to bed and ran outside at 6 am to bring the food in. But there was no food - only an email (sent in the early morning hours) saying that my order was cancelled. WTF??? I tried emailing, texting and calling Good Eggs but could not reach a real live human being who could help me. If they were having the Thanksgiving screw up of the year, shouldn't they have busted their butts and gotten all hands on deck to reach out to customers? So not knowing anything (other than my order was cancelled), I scrambled. I first tried to find a turkey that wasn't huge (only had to feed my family of 4) but couldn't find one. I spent a stressful hour trying to find recipes to cook a last-minute Thanksgiving meal, but gave up (my mother-in-law always hosts Thanksgiving, so I've never cooked this meal and was totally overwhelmed). Long story short, Good Eggs completely screwed up my Thanksgiving plans. We survived; my family is resilient and is not defined by a meal. And yet . . . Good Eggs added A LOT of stress to me and my family over the past two days. What's perhaps worse is that my order DID show up (2:30 pm Thursday). If I had known that it was coming, I would have relaxed. Enjoyed my day. But by 2:30 pm, I had already made plans to join my sister's family's meal (which we had been trying to avoid since, you know, it's a pandemic). The order showed up as I was driving away to my sister's in Sacramento. I asked the driver what he would have done if no one was home, and he said he would have just left the order. 19 hours late, and he would have left the order on the porch. If the order had come 1 hour later, we would have been half-way to my sister's in Sacramento. So the 3 boxes would have sat on my porch, food going bad, and burglars knowing that no one was home. This long-time Good Eggs customer is done. I'm super bummed b/c I loved what Good Eggs stood for, but customer service means the most to me. I'll stick to shopping at Village Market, a lovely local store in the Oakland Hills. If I'm going to pay too much for groceries, I'd rather spend my money someplace that truly values their customers. HI, I didn't want to alarm anyone about bad behavior at Goodeggs, but when it effects people's health, and goes against my own integrity I couldn't condone the behavior any longer. As a Shift Lead at Goodeggs for about year now I have been privy to much, and as a person I always try to see the good in everything, but I can no longer stand aside, and do nothing as the behavior at Goodeggs continues. I want everyone to not only have a great Thanksgiving, but to still be alive thereafter. Alot of Goodeggs employees on the graveyard shift "do not wear gloves" nor masks" while gathering, and assembling customers food/product purchases. This is as people are showing up to work with the Corona Virus coughing on everything! It could be in your food, on your products, and even in/on the packaging you receive. This is happening, because on the graveyard shift there is no oversight. No Management to hold employees accountable for their contamination of customer purchase orders. Also, when the morning Management is made aware of the behavior (as I had done on many occasion) sadly they found no immediate concern with the issue, and did absolutely nothing. Please be careful, and either support your local farmers at the farmers market, you can use Amazon fresh, go to your local Whole Foods store, or Trader Joe's, even Ready Fresh. Just whatever you do be careful, and for your own safety maybe try not to shop Goodeggs this Thanksgiving or anytime in the immediate future. We are prohibited from taking pictures, but I was able to sneak a couple for you, people not wearing gloves, what the place looks like where your food comes from, and some of the food that will be coming to you if you order from Goodeggs this holiday from behind the walls of Goodeggs at 2000 Maritime in Oakland. Rotten Eggs. No stars! A week and a half before Thanksgiving, I pre-ordered cooked food, including a turkey and sides, to be delivered between 5pm and 9pm on the night before the holiday. After emails letting me know of delays at their distribution center, they wrote they would deliver some of the items between midnight and 8am. I woke up to their 2am email cancelling the order. They will issue a refund and, to apologize, a $50 account credit. How arrogant and insulting to presume I will be using the service again; since that will never happen, the account credit is useless. They showed very poor planning during a time when people would be relying on the service to celebrate the holiday, especially this year's strange circumstances. read more

Wow! I'm so impressed with Good Eggs. I used them a few years back (I think in 2012?) when the company had just started. I remember I had to pick up from one of their "pick up locations" in Burlingame as they didn't have deliveries in my area just yet. That's when I discovered my love for Can-Can milks.. which they sadly don't carry anymore :( I love shopping local and Good Eggs has almost everything you could possibly find at your local farmer's markets. The website + app are easy to navigate and you can even filter by farm. I had a last minute idea to make pho this weekend and wasn't able to find a few ingredients at the Ferry Building Farmer's Market this morning/thought ordering from Good Eggs would be easier.. and they had everything I was missing! Delivery was on time and courier was friendly. I have no complaints so far! I gotta say I'm pretty disappointed in my first order with good eggs. I placed my order earlier today after getting a coupon to try them out. The ordering process was ok. It was easy enough to order and chose a time slot for when I would be home. My time slot was between 630-830pm. I got a notification around 8pm that my driver was delayed and that my new delivery window was 830-840pm. It finally arrived at 845pm. The driver was nice. However, when I opened up my box, I was missing HALF of my groceries that I ordered and paid for! I ordered a dozen items and only got 6 of them! Not a good first impression. And then I tried calling customer service to see if maybe they forgot another box for me and it just goes straight to voicemail! All in all I only received half of my groceries and the half I received came late! This being the first time I ordered from Good Eggs, you'd think they would put their best foot forward. I guess not. Oh and to top it all off, one of the six items I received was a half gallon of milk which turned out was leaking! It leaked on my groceries and a bit in my fridge so I had to dump it out! I placed an order over the weekend that was scheduled for delivery this afternoon between 1-5 pm. At 6 pm my order had not arrived, and I had received no updated ETA or other communication about the delay. So I reached out via email and got a text a few minutes later that my new ETA was between 7:25-7:35 pm. This was a little disappointing as some of the stuff I needed for tonight... but I shifted my plans to make do. Unfortunately, 7:35 came and went with no delivery. I emailed again just after 8 pm, and no response. I called around 8:50 and left a voicemail, and no response. There was zero further communication about the delay or a new ETA, either directly or on the Good Eggs website. At 10:08 pm I hear a soft knock on the door, and then get a text that my delivery is here. More than 5 hours past the window I had signed up for. I do understand they're likely very busy with deliveries for Thanksgiving... But they need to do a MUCH better job managing expectations and delivery routes. A couple of hours delay I can understand. A five hour delay for perishable food, plus a delivery past 10 pm? Not so much.... (Normally we would have all been in bed by then, but I was anxiously waiting up because I was worried they might deliver super late and our food would sit outside all night). I immediately unpacked my order. Fortunately, everything was cold. But some items were a little too cold. The eggs in the carton were frozen, and a few of them were cracked (possibly a result of having been frozen, which you are not supposed to do with eggs in the shell). Though I guess the tradeoff was that the ice cream I ordered was still frozen! They also left out a $13 hunk of cheese I ordered. There was never any communication that they were out of stock. Hopefully, they will provide a refund for that. I have only ordered from Good Eggs maybe a handful of times since 2018. In my first order with them, some of the eggs came cracked as well (but not frozen that time). They also sent me some frozen sausages in that order that had a "freeze by" date that was 17 months prior (I ordered in April of 2018, and the date on the sausages was November of 2016). They did refund me for those issues at that time. I really want to like them. Their selection of items seems great, and I have enjoyed other items I have received from them. But this crazy late delivery with very poor communication has me hesitant to order again. I was excited to try the company after a patient of mine told me about it. I did not mind paying the almost $12 in additional fees (an employee and delivery fee). We spent over $100 after the $25 coupon was applied. Unpacking the groceries the fruit was placed on the bottom of the box and was delivered heavily bruised and soft. The mint was half wilted and not usable. The low rating is due to the quality of most of the produce that were delivered compared to the pictures that the website posted. I've been a big fan of Good Eggs throughout this year ordering them weekly. Then suddenly today happened: had a delivery window 5:30-7:30 pm. It's now 9:10 pm and all I have is an email from customer service saying "sorry took so long but here's $10 credit for a future order". Thing is I still don't have groceries and attempting to call customer service I get sent to voicemail. No dinner and looks like no breakfast tomorrow either. Guess I'm going back to Instacart who have their own issues but have never left me without food or not answering when I call. Had to move dinner back four hours, and a super stressful thanksgiving 2020. $50 credit and no refund (but a charge and a duplicate still pending) in NO WAY makes up for them biting off way more than they could chew. Twice burned! Our Thanksgiving order arrived hours late at 10pm (and missing some items)--but at least we got essentially what we ordered. Perhaps foolishly, and responding to the heartfelt apology emails from the CEO ("our entire team has been focused on pinpointing what went wrong"), we thought we'd give them a chance for Christmas. Big mistake. The order did come on time, this time, but with one huge problem: the _unfrozen_ prime rib roast we ordered was replaced by a huge FROZEN slab of meat--a prime rib that would, according to the internet, take 3-5 days to defrost in the fridge (or maybe 7 hours if you immersed it in cold water, changing the water carefully for safety reasons _every 30 minutes_)! Oddly, our Christmas Day plans had not previously centered on gathering around a large water-filled cooler, tenderly nursing a massive frozen hunk of meat to safe cooking temperatures. We ended up with something that kind of resembled a prime rib roast, having partly-defrosted, partly-hacked-apart-for-cooking the hunk of meat. But we had to rearrange our Christmas Day plans. In short, a debacle, thanks to Good Eggs. Perhaps I should have said not, "Twice burned!" but "Once burned, once frozen!" I waited until now to make this review for anyone considering this for Thanksgiving. Please reconsider. I tried this last year and it ruined the entire day. It was scheduled to be delivered the day prior which kept getting pushed back. I stayed up until 12:30am with the promise it would arrive. It didn't. They have nobody in the office to respond to calls or emails. The following day (Thanksgiving day) it still had not arrived. The day/meal was ruined. I had to run out and buy a bunch of pre made stuff from a local grocery store. Eventually they delivered the items that evening and still charged me for everything despite it arriving after the fact. Don't depend on Good Eggs, they spoiled our family Thanksgiving. Ordered my 8-10 pound Root Down turkey first of November to be delivered the Tuesday before Thanksgiving by 5 pm. At 8:30 pm on Tuesday, 11/24, I received a text saying the turkey purchase was cancelled! Talked with two customer service reps, and around 9:30, the supervisor Edith, promised to deliver a 12-14 pound turkey from Oz Family Farms on Wednesday morning. Wednesday morning two other small items I had ordered arrived, but no turkey! After several hours on the phone, Jiaria said the turkey Edith promised and confirmed by email, was not available, but she could send an 18-20 pound turkey of lesser quality than the one initially ordered. What are three people going to do with an 18-20 pound turkey? I insisted on the turkey Edith promised and Jiaria called an hour later saying she had located it and it would be sent by 9 pm Wednesday night, no email confirmation. Would you trust your Thanksgiving to these people and expect delivery as promised? At some point, in the process of scaling, this company stopped caring about its customers in the same way. I shopped exclusively with them for years and then one day, the extra added touches stopped (remember those luscious product samples and bonuses?), products became suddenly unavailable upon checkout, delivery times vanished during payment, incorrect items were put into boxes, and customer care stopped seeming like they had any real connection to the company. (This is less a comment on Good Eggs itself and more a comment on how much time it takes to assemble delivery orders from Whole Foods through Amazon, where half the button presses don't register and product SKUs seem to change every week.) - If your alternatives are Safeway, Trader Joe's, or Whole Foods, the produce selection is definitely fresher and more interesting for most items. (See my note at the end about how some produce will always be the same, because there are only a few suppliers.) - Packaging is minimal and reusable or recyclable. - Good Eggs didn't donate to the "Yes on Prop. 22" campaign, unlike Instacart. Neutral: - Prices seem roughly in line with other delivery services, when compared by item. Delivery fee and the tip equivalent all seem in the same approximate ballpark. That said, missing a discount tier on non-produce items. There are no house-brand staples. Cons: - The product descriptions and photos are over the top. Sometimes it sets my expectations way to high and I am disappointed by the actual product itself. - Some of the produce for things like celery and radishes is from the same large supplier for Safeway's organic section--nothing wrong with this, it's just that the only difference is that Safeway washes off the dirt, while Good Eggs leaves it on for you to see and "appreciate." read more

Prior to Thanksgiving this would have been a three or four star review. Pros: They work with interesting local vendors, including some really great bakeries, breweries, and meat suppliers. Cons: Produce or dairy can sometimes be right on the verge of expiration. No way to talk to a human about order mistakes. Packing is really terrible - everything jammed in together and bruising each other. Orders can be late or missing items, you'll never know until you unpack; there can be baffling communications re delivery (like two or three "I just delivered your order" messages from different names and phone numbers, coming before the order arrives). Post Thanksgiving... well. If they knew things were melting down on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, they should have told their customers then so we could pursue other options! Not kept us hanging with a series of "Your order may be delayed but rest assured we will deliver it", "Your order will be delivered overnight, rest assured", "Rest assured that your order is out for delivery" messages that didn't actually result in any food being delivered or any rest being gotten. As other reviewers mentioned, I was not happy with their radio silence day of and after the event. It was impossible to get in touch with a human and no one answered support emails or texts (although they did send out a terribly ill-timed "Order more food!" advertising email). Eventually they tweeted a "we're processing tickets as fast as we can, file a ticket if you didn't get your food" message. Excuse me, why is this the customer's responsibility? Don't you know whether you delivered my food or not? Why are you expecting the customers to find you on social media for the explanation? A company that respected their customers would have contacted the customers to tell them their food wasn't coming and offer compensation. Not waited for the customers to find them on Twitter to learn the story. The thanksgiving debacle revealed them for what they really are: just another well funded "move fast and break things" tech startup. I got the incorrect meat on my order: the meat was also expired. A rotten leaky smelly steak that expired two weeks ago and a slab of expired pork: I don't eat pork. Good eggs has really great local produce and unique products. Customer service is also lovely. However, they are so unreliable with execution on orders - we consistently have at least 1-3 items missing from our order and/or the quantity of certain items is incorrect. Unfortunately, this prevents us from ever being consistent return customers and is always a warning we give to friends who want to try good eggs. Again great customer service in that they quickly give refunds or credit but it defeats the entire purpose of ordering food online to just have to run to the store the next day to get missing items. read more

Man, I really wanted to embrace this service. The recipes look great. But now, after 3 orders, they have consistently left items out that I was counting on, made substitutions (chicken for pork in a dish that called for shredded pork), or delivered my order to someone else's carport in another building! Last night's order came with with wilted lettuce (for wraps), about 4 pounds of broccoli (for one recipe that serves 4), and a bunch of fresh carrots in addition to a package of shredded carrots. Every time they screw up, they offer a refund or a credit which is small consolation for not getting what I expected. Tis the season for crazy diets and healthy shopping. I've been on a quasi-Paelo kick, seeking out organic bone broths and grain-free muffins and prepared meals and such. For these kinds of specialty items, Good Eggs is the jam. I love that everything is locally made, small-batch, and health conscious. Plus, I don't even have to leave the house to get the goods! They're delivered to my door the next day. Super happy that they adjusted their delivery times to be quicker. You can order by 10pm to get your order the very next day. Pretty rad for people who hate grocery shopping (me). Love the product selection, online shopping experience, and free delivery over $50 (and believe me, it's too easy to spend $50 here!). My go-to items are Muffin Revolution paleo muffins, Mission Heirloom bone broths, and Salty Sweet chocolate chip cookies (totally not paleo or healthy, but utterly delicious and essential to happiness). read more

I really like the concept of Good Eggs - the living wages they pay, the options for reusing packaging, etc. Their website is beautiful and makes grocery shopping a great experience. Their beautiful photography and the interesting produce and pantry items make you adventurous in trying new things. The deliveries are carefully packed in cardboard boxes, with reusable ice packs for cold foods. Downsides: When substituting items, sometimes the item you end up with is cheaper than what you ordered; but they don't update your order, so you pay for the original total. It's a few dollars here and there, and sometimes you don't want to make a fuss about such a small amount, but it adds up over time. It's the principle of it, too; the billing should be updated to reflect what you actually received. I can't use Good Eggs to fulfill all my grocery needs, but it is my go-to for fresh produce and certain items that I like to buy for ethical reasons. Sidebar: I was interested in what the Good Eggs work environment is like, given they seem to care about fair wages. A little disappointed with the poor reviews on Glassdoor; hope they are looking into improving morale for their workers. read more
