Placed a few orders while at home with baby some years ago and returned to order again recently while minimizing outings to stores. Pluses: - User interfaces are well made and easy to use over and over again. (This is less a comment on Good Eggs itself and more a comment on how much time it takes to assemble delivery orders from Whole Foods through Amazon, where half the button presses don't register and product SKUs seem to change every week.) - If your alternatives are Safeway, Trader Joe's, or Whole Foods, the produce selection is definitely fresher and more interesting for most items. (See my note at the end about how some produce will always be the same, because there are only a few suppliers.) - Packaging is minimal and reusable or recyclable. - Good Eggs didn't donate to the "Yes on Prop. 22" campaign, unlike Instacart. Neutral: - Prices seem roughly in line with other delivery services, when compared by item. Delivery fee and the tip equivalent all seem in the same approximate ballpark. That said, missing a discount tier on non-produce items. There are no house-brand staples. Cons: - The product descriptions and photos are over the top. Sometimes it sets my expectations way to high and I am disappointed by the actual product itself. - Some of the produce for things like celery and radishes is from the same large supplier for Safeway's organic section--nothing wrong with this, it's just that the only difference is that Safeway washes off the dirt, while Good Eggs leaves it on for you to see and "appreciate." read more

Prior to Thanksgiving this would have been a three or four star review. Pros: They work with interesting local vendors, including some really great bakeries, breweries, and meat suppliers. Cons: Produce or dairy can sometimes be right on the verge of expiration. No way to talk to a human about order mistakes. Packing is really terrible - everything jammed in together and bruising each other. Orders can be late or missing items, you'll never know until you unpack; there can be baffling communications re delivery (like two or three "I just delivered your order" messages from different names and phone numbers, coming before the order arrives). Post Thanksgiving... well. If they knew things were melting down on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, they should have told their customers then so we could pursue other options! Not kept us hanging with a series of "Your order may be delayed but rest assured we will deliver it", "Your order will be delivered overnight, rest assured", "Rest assured that your order is out for delivery" messages that didn't actually result in any food being delivered or any rest being gotten. As other reviewers mentioned, I was not happy with their radio silence day of and after the event. It was impossible to get in touch with a human and no one answered support emails or texts (although they did send out a terribly ill-timed "Order more food!" advertising email). Eventually they tweeted a "we're processing tickets as fast as we can, file a ticket if you didn't get your food" message. Excuse me, why is this the customer's responsibility? Don't you know whether you delivered my food or not? Why are you expecting the customers to find you on social media for the explanation? A company that respected their customers would have contacted the customers to tell them their food wasn't coming and offer compensation. Not waited for the customers to find them on Twitter to learn the story. The thanksgiving debacle revealed them for what they really are: just another well funded "move fast and break things" tech startup. Man, I really wanted to embrace this service. The recipes look great. But now, after 3 orders, they have consistently left items out that I was counting on, made substitutions (chicken for pork in a dish that called for shredded pork), or delivered my order to someone else's carport in another building! Last night's order came with with wilted lettuce (for wraps), about 4 pounds of broccoli (for one recipe that serves 4), and a bunch of fresh carrots in addition to a package of shredded carrots. Every time they screw up, they offer a refund or a credit which is small consolation for not getting what I expected. I really like the concept of Good Eggs - the living wages they pay, the options for reusing packaging, etc. Their website is beautiful and makes grocery shopping a great experience. Their beautiful photography and the interesting produce and pantry items make you adventurous in trying new things. The deliveries are carefully packed in cardboard boxes, with reusable ice packs for cold foods. Downsides: When substituting items, sometimes the item you end up with is cheaper than what you ordered; but they don't update your order, so you pay for the original total. It's a few dollars here and there, and sometimes you don't want to make a fuss about such a small amount, but it adds up over time. It's the principle of it, too; the billing should be updated to reflect what you actually received. I can't use Good Eggs to fulfill all my grocery needs, but it is my go-to for fresh produce and certain items that I like to buy for ethical reasons. Sidebar: I was interested in what the Good Eggs work environment is like, given they seem to care about fair wages. I live in San Francisco and I found this service and hoped that finally I had a local service to get fresh food deliveries from. I learned now to always read the reviews FIRST!! I called and spoke to a nice woman and even mentioned how nice and refreshing it was to deal locally and not have to deal with the overseas annoying customer services! She never said she was in Honduras! She had no accent and I thought she was here plus she never told me the customer service is located there. I refuse to deal with overseas. Everyone I ever talk to feels the same way!! We need to keep our local jobs HERE in the US!! I support the US not the entire planet! I thought it was too good to be true! I ordered my first order which was over $300! Everything was in stock and just like going to the Farmer's Market but without risking my life to Covid by mingling with possibly infected people that won't wear a mask! The ordering was fine online, the delivery came on time and I would only give 5 stars to the very nice young lady that brought my order up to my front apartment door. Those of us in San Francisco that don't live in mansions live in apartment buildings and most delivery people are lazy and leave boxes of food in our lobby, even pre-pandemic! She was wonderful to talk to. Only good experience! Now when I opened the boxes everything was tossed in like it came off an assembly line! I tried Good Eggs for the first time for a party I was throwing. I was really busy and had no time shop myself. Nearly everything was perfect (one bunch of herbs was a bit wilted) and my guests raved about the spread. The Duck Rillettes from Wooden Spoons and Meyer Lemon Marmalade from Frog Hollow Farm were particularly great. Customer service is also amazing. They emailed me after my order arrived to check-in, I let them know about the wilted herbs and they refunded me that item and have me a coupon code. Do not count on getting all the ingredients and only get a recipe without any quantities to fill in missing ingredients, and also just a partial refund on the essential ingredients that are missing. My recent deliveries have almost all been late. On one level, I don't care because you can leave my groceries outside my door. The food is good. The website is good. The ability to deliver the food you buy is bad. For the past month, I had 3 dinner kits delivered each week. Each week, 1-2 of the meal kits came missing a key ingredient. A meal kit is only a meal kit if all of the ingredients can be delivered. I got in the mail an ad from goodeggs.com claiming they deliver "absurdly fresh groceries" Not quite. I decided to give them a try. No issue with delivery but I have issue with their claim. Bought some organic strawberry and they were not "absurdly" fresh but have been sitting in their warehouse for days. I found at least 5 not edible strawberries in a small 1 pint container. The small papaya also looked too green but I have not tried it out yet. Overall I am not satisfied with their claim. read more

I tried Good Eggs in May and was excited to receive what I'd ordered. The items I received were great. However, I was disappointed by the customer service experience. Firstly, they are not fully transparent about delivery fees. They often add on an additional fee for "peak" delivery times, but there's no chart to let you know when the peak times are. Secondly, once my delivery window came around, I got a message saying that some of the items were unavailable. It was strange that they wouldn't have known that before my delivery window started. They ended up replacing one item in a very acceptable way, and refunded me for the other items. However, I still had some follow up questions, so I sent them an email on May 11. I received an automated reply saying that they reply to all emails personally and that they had been experiencing a high volume of communication, so it would take them a bit longer to reply to my message. It's now June 16 (over 1 month later), and I still have not heard back from them even though I sent a follow-up email on June 1. Their initial apologetic email about keeping me waiting for a response now rings false and has not given me a favorable impression of their service. I won't be using Good Eggs in the future or recommending it to friends. read more

We use good eggs a few times a month. Generally speaking, they offer good quality products, helpful staff and efficient delivery. Three areas they need to improve on: 1. Selection of produce needs improvement: I have purchased meal kits where the produce was either damaged or not ripe so unusable. So had to come up with plan B. 2. Packaging is wasteful: I ordered components for a meal (mostly small - herbs, etc), one package of bath tissue and milk. All could have gone into one box and I got three. One box had the package of bath tissue only. The gel things to keep cool should be recycled along with boxes, but they will only accept the boxes. 3. Delivery can be spotty: In the above-mentioned order, half of my items came between the 5-7 timeframe and the rest came at 9:45 that evening. I was offered a $10 credit. That really didn't help, as I had to figure out something else for dinner. Overall, I will keep using, but they really need to think through some of the issues mentioned in the reviews. read more

However, they are so unreliable with execution on orders - we consistently have at least 1-3 items missing from our order and/or the quantity of certain items is incorrect. Unfortunately, this prevents us from ever being consistent return customers and is always a warning we give to friends who want to try good eggs. I've been testing out different grocery delivery options in the Bay Area and think Good Eggs is an amazing way to order organic produce and discover well-made baked goods from local vendors. Ordering from the app is intuitive and the deliveries have always arrived in the allotted time window in good condition. There is also a flat rate, good jobs fee for those of us less inclined to tip for everyday delivery. So.... a friend was talking about how much he liked his grocery delivery... and I figured, why not give them a try. INSTANTLY A FAN! I decided to do the pick up, instead of delivery... as I was starting with a small order. The person I picked my groceries up from was super friendly, and right where they said they would be. There was a cold pack so my produce was perfectly fine when I got home (which they didn't charge for, but will recycle if brought back). I got home to find out they had given me an extra eggplant and onion (possibly because mine were on the smaller side?) either way extra is always god! The rasberries were delicious... as was everything, lets be honest.. very fresh. The kicker was the hand written note thanking me for supporting local farms with a free sample of walnut butter! (I havent tried the walnut butter but have heard great things). Honestly... the quality, getting to support local farmers, the convenience (the stop was right on my way home.... and well delivery would be even better!), and on top of all that- the prices are VERY reasonable! We have been VERY happy with the quality and selection of produce and other groceries from Good Eggs, and I never want to go in-person grocery shopping again! Originally when someone introduced Good Eggs to me, I scoffed because I want to be able to touch and look at my food before purchasing. However, I've tried them a handful of times and I must say I am impressed with the selection and service. Yes, the food is more expensive than what you will find on Clement Street. I would give a minus if I could. I have been getting delivery from this service EVERY week for over two years. I stay home and work from home the day of delivery, like I did today. Not only did I not get delivery - after confirmation that I paid, but when I followed up twice, an hour and a half after not receiving my order - I was told the delivery person gave my order to someone that pulled up in a car saying it was their delivery and then drove away. The driver never identified the individual, and after they saw them drive away and thought nothing suspicious, I also never received a text confirming delivery as they always do afterwards. There was no Good Eggs delivery car or van that came near my home during this time as I was sitting at the front window where I work and was watching during this 2 hour window. I cannot imagine what the real story was behind this but none of it makes sense. I would have at least received delivery confirmation if it ever was delivered - and that did not happen. My family's dinner and a week of groceries was in that delivery that I paid, and I cannot stay home tomorrow to receive another order this week and some of those items I needed won't be available. Their offer to help for the delivery I paid for, was to redeliver whatever was available another day or credit me. These are very poor options, and I probably spend $600 to $800 a month with this service. I had to keep checking on the status and they didn't seem to think anything was wrong with this situation. I won't be using them further and a simple credit for what I paid for, and me having to arrange to work from home and not getting the items I needed, and now having to find time to go shopping is a pretty poor solution. If they are willing to give someone's order without verifying ID to someone that drives up next to them in a car, I don't think you can count on them being responsible to deliver your order. read more

While the grocery items tend to be higher in price in comparison to Whole Foods and Safeway, I like ordering from here on occasion. I've started doing their 3-Meal Weeknight Kits and have liked what they have sent over. About 70% is local and organic, and I've really enjoyed everything made in the Good Eggs Kitchen! It's basic stuff but high quality and TASTY. There are things I find on their site that I can't find elsewhere - again local and high quality goods. I'll continue to go to Safeway and TJ's for my more basic necessities, but have come to look forward to what GoodEggs provides in the weeknight kits and for things that I are more unique. read more

I have ordered several times and spent a lot of money with extra tips. In the last order, I did not receive a pound of cherries that were paid for. To date, I have emailed Good Eggs customer service 4 times to ask them to either send me the pound of cherries on my next order or to simply credit the amount, however they wish. It did not have to become an issue if I had received a personal response and the situation resolved. But, It has been at least a month, and I have yet to hear a response ( besides an automated message saying someone will get in touch ) and for that I feel customer service has been irresponsible and not receptive to me. I've since ordered several times, and am getting more and more sucked in by how awesome it is to have fresh delicious produce, groceries, and semi-prepared ingredients delivered straight to my door. I have fully switched over from Instacart because #1. The quality is better. #2. The delivery fees and pricing are more transparent. #3. Their drivers are employees, not independent contractors. I always felt a little guilty using Instacart, because it feels exploitative, and I felt bad complaining when they would bring me the wrong ingredients or rotten produce. Good Eggs has a much better track record with delivering the right stuff and having it be the best possible quality, and the few mixups there have been have been swiftly corrected. Well once again my order was missing something today. This is the third instance where something was missing from my order when it got to my home. This is crazy! We pay really good money for these groceries and more times than not we spend more time trying to track down missing items than it would have taken to just go get them from the store. Because of the clear lack of quality control at the point of boxing up the groceries, the convenience portion of this experience is lacking. I should not be their quality control; I should be able to trust that the product I purchase from good eggs will end up at my home. Not to mention the time before this was a complete nightmare situation when an employee left an entire bag of groceries in his car and wouldn't come back to redeliver until well after 9:30 pm which was at least a 5 hour window of time with us begging him to get here. At which point he blamed the warehouse for the issue after he had assured us the bag was not in his car the whole time. The most Important theme here is not receiving everything that is ordered is unacceptable and they will need to work on this before we will order from them again. Every time this has happened before they have credited my account with a small amount of money making me feel like I have to purchase from them to get my money back. Became a go to for all grocery shopping and would order once a week without needing to go out or use other services. Was flawless with good customer service, packaging with care and on time delivery. Sometime around February started having issues with items either not delivered or that would be shown as in stock on website but refunded resulting in broken meal plans and need to go out to store or use a competitor. Drivers started becoming late and one littered in front of our house (captured on Ring). Now the quality of the actual produce has taken a complete nosedive and the packaging is abysmal (leaking, packaged goods dusty/dirty). Do not recommend and really sad to see them fail to maintain the business at scale because they were amazing. Seems like other people have been experiencing similar issues since it looks like they but off more than they could chew with the expansion to SoCal leaving the business in the Bay a terrible mess. Sinking ship and I bet Glade Brook wishes they took a harder look before dropping $100M here. They try and offer refunds and such but you wouldn't continue to shop at a brick and mortar grocery store that had rotten and expired or dirty and dusty or constantly out of stock goods so why do they think a refund would have you come back here? Yikes, how many things can go wrong with a single order? I ordered dinner plus some additional food and paid $5 extra for a 5:30-7:30 delivery window. The order was late. The beef and broccoli dish was missing the broccoli. The soup was not available and was omitted. And a bakery item was substituted with another (without asking me). They gave me a credit for the beef and broccoli dish rather than a refund, so I have to order from this place again. This service used to be good. Moldy broccoli, moldy strawberries, missing grapefruit (although I was charged for it). Yikes. That said, delivery was on time and pantry and dairy items were in good shape. Not the game changer I was hoping it would be. read more
