I am proud to say that I am no stranger to Nona Lim, having completed their 21-Day Detox Diet earlier this year when they were still called Cook SF (go see my review if Yelp hasn't erased those yet). I was definitely pleased with that experience since I lost 12 pounds during that time, not to mention that the food was scrumptious, convenient for travel, and easy to prepare. So when I heard that the company had changed its name to honor the founder, Nona Lim, I was confused. Did this mean that the quality of the food and the timeliness of the deliveries would change? Yes, dare I say it, for the better!
While the company was transitioning, I joined the Nona Lim facebook page and decided to take advantage of the "grand opening" discount that was offered upon the unveiling their new Web site. And doggone if that wasn't one of the best health decisions I have ever made. I chose to undergo three weeks of the Lifestyle Plan, and the food was even more phenomenal than I had experienced before. Huevos rancheros, steak fajitas, French toast and "sausage," gluten free meals with no added sugar and fresh ingredients. I honestly don't know how they do it. The food is full of flavor without being salty, greasy, or fatty. I can't stress enough how impressive it is that they are able to ship fresh ingredients across the US. The pico de gallo that came with my fajitas exploded with flavor. It was as if the veggies had been chopped moments before I opened the UPS box.
To make a long review short, these real, wholesome food products make me feel so much more alive. Granted, I could run around and look for the ingredients to do a lot of the meals myself since the recipe concepts are fairly simple. However, I live in an area where a lot of the meal plan's staples -- amaranth, radicchio, bok choy, quinoa, and coconut oil -- are hard to find. In my mind, the convenience of this service outweighs the costs if you are trying to live a gluten free, dairy free, soy free, low refined sugar lifestyle in a rural or undeveloped area. And yes, yes, yes, you will have to pay quite a bit to get it shipped to you. Nevertheless, this service ships timely, has great customer service, an exceptional menu (lots of organics), and frequent discounts for those who subscribe to their facebook page or e-mail newsletter. If you are considering one of their meal services, it is worth giving them a test run. They offer a two-day trial of the Detox. And, of course, both the Lifestyle Plan and the Detox can be ordered for durations as short as a week. The Lifestyle plan is also flexible because you can tailor it so that you are ordering just the meals you need. There's no excuse not to make Nona Lim your personal chef. read more
