I loved this shop when Brennan was manager, but since Stephen took over, things have gone downhill fast. This place employs people who hold and express white supremacist views. One employee once told me outright that if he got a wife, he "didn't want property" -- making it crystal clear he sees people with melanin as less than human. The staff is entirely white, and that attitude shows. I was eventually banned after showing an accurate historical depiction of Yehoshua (Jesus) as a Black man. Stephen, the new manager, took issue with that and has been looking for a reason to get rid of me ever since. The official reason given was "Poor treatment of Geekery Patrons as viewed by staff" -- every single friend I've asked disagrees completely. If you're not white and/or not a regular customer, they'll undercut you whether you're selling your cards for cash or trading them in for store credit -- typically by about 10% -- and pocket the difference. This is primarily a Magic: The Gathering shop, and they genuinely do not care about Pokémon, One Piece, Gundam, or Flesh & Blood. If you play anything other than Magic, you're an afterthought here. It's always been like that and I don't think they will change... The store is also not child friendly. I repeatedly had to remind people to stop cursing around kids. Staff never stepped in to handle it. On top of everything else, their pricing has gotten worse. They used to sell at MSRP, but now they charge market price on items -- which is usually double what you should be paying. Cab Comics up the street has much better prices and is a far more welcoming environment overall. Cab Comics treats everyone the same, they don't give special treatment to those only read/buy comics or just white people... I wouldn't recommend selling cards here, and I wouldn't recommend spending your time or money in a place that treats non-white people this way.

The Monte V cocktail lounge can do that. Loud punk music playing in the background and an older group of people in the bar. It was early like 8:30 or so, I can't say how busy this place gets, there's a large room in the back that apparently used to have a pool table. I think they might have live music sometimes back there. Bartender was friendly, I think he said Steve was his name. He said he makes his old fashioned with the sugar cube still which isn't done by many, it's kind of old timey or divey but it works. It's closer to the original recipe he said. I saw he had a bottle of Luxardo, which is a maraschino cherry spirit, and I have a bottle at home but never know what to make or have enough things so I asked him to make me something with it, he opted for a last word since his bar had green chartreuse. Gin, luxardo, chartreuse, and lime make this lovely cocktail. Our drinks were great and at $12 each, a spirit forward deal! I would definitely come back and have another round of drinks here. As it was their first time, they started out very timid, the course took them about an hour the first time through and a lot of coaxing and reassuring, the second and third time through the kids course was done with more confidence and faster with each run. I can't wait to go back and do the adult course and my child keeps saying they can't wait to turn 12 to go up to the top of the trees! We'll definitely be back again, such a fun experience! :-)
