When planning our road trip to the Grand Canyon, we looked up some fun things to do in Flagstaff. Loving all things Magic The Gathering, my husband was insistent when come here when he found out they have the largest selection of cards in Northern Arizona. As a fan of dice, I spent most of my time here at The Geekery staring at the dice. My husband was mesmerized by the MTG and other trading cards they had. The employees were able to answer his questions, which he tends to have a lot when it comes to his collectibles. The store was well organized and the prices were pretty standard from what I see at game stores. We are both glad we stopped by The Geekery. read more

This is my number one place to go for all things Magic. They are super friendly and welcoming with great advice. I could easily spend an hour looking at their cards and building a deck. They have everything you need for new players and plenty of tables for you to bring friends and play. They have a great selection of miniatures as well and some cool deck boxes to keep your cards in. I'll admit it; my husband and I are geeks, nerds, whatever you want to call it and after watching Table Top with Will Wheaton, my husband and I have gotten a little geekier - if possible. Thus we decided to visit the Geekery. Super glad we did, because we found a few new games to play! The store itself is located in a semi-busy plaza , but actually finding the store was a bit difficult. You have to walk into a building, past a hair salon, and down an empty corridor before reaching the Geekery. I'll admit I got lost and was a little scared to enter the building, because I thought I was entering the salon and not a building that housed several other shops. (Hey, it was confusing!) Once inside the store, it is a little drab but also down key and no pressure. The employees were playing a game of Magic (or creating decks) and greeted us upon entering. We were able to browse for a bit on our own before one employee came over to ask if we were looking for anything I particular. My husband chatted about a game he was interested in and the employee was knowledgeable. Overall, the selection is good (stuff you wouldn't find at Target) and the employees are helpful/friendly. If you are looking for a table top game or need some dice or Magic cards, I'd definitely recommend checking the Geekery out! read more

This is such a fun store! They don't have a HUGE selection of games, but they are extremely informative and helped us get a great game! We had a great family game night. It seems to cater to table top/card games and such. They also make you feel really welcomed and not out of place. read more

I've been coming to The Geekery recently for the past 3 Weeks and was surprised at how quickly I was accepted as a regular. The staff has always been courteous, kind and helpful to me and other customers. I recently started to play Magic the Gathering and was surprised and impressed at the help of the staff and other players. The Geekery is a great store to visit and play at, so don't feel discouraged to come and hang out. As long as you come regularly, you WILL be accepted by the regular crowd and enjoy your time here. I know I have. The only downside, is that the restroom is a little shabby and dark, but the upside is that it is well stocked with toiletries. If you play Magic, tabletop games, or even video games, I recommend you check this place out. read more

A hidden gem that I hope gains more appreciation. They had a nice, though small, collection of games which were displayed in a way that you didn't have to move things around to see. The place is very open, perfect for bringing some friends to do a bit of gaming; card or board games. If I lived in Flagstaff, I'd probably come here to kill time and meet other gamers. The gentleman who helped us was quite friendly and clean in appearance. Overall, a nice experience. Though I did not spend time looking at them, it seemed that they had quite the collection of Magic cards available for one to spend hours going through. I'm sure if you are new to MTG, you may want to go there for deck building. read more

Answer your phone. I know you guys are a bunch of scared nerds but it's ok to answer the goddamn phone. The hours of operation are horrible, expected for Flagstaff, but this place takes the cake. Walked by there while it was closed and its pathetic. A couple of tables for Magic the Gathering. Two cases, maybe three of cartridges, but nothing on the wall. My garage has a better selection and more play area than this place. It's inside a crappy mini mall, too, making it a challenge to find. But you can't call to get directions, remember their staff is afraid it's a girl on the other end. I truly hope this place goes out of business soon so we can see their inventory on eBay. The only reason to stop by is because you're at the pita pit with some time to burn. Seriously. Lock your doors for good, you're giving real gamers a bad name and rep. read more

After finding the store in the back of a strip mall (it's hidden away), I was surprised by the selection of board games and cards the store has to offer. The people working there were friendly and some customers invited me to come play a game with them. I had fun and will come back there when I'm in Flagstaff. So...I wanted to like this store. But after some time I have had no choice but to give up on it. Everyone playing there is overly competitive and sneaky. The staff members are rude and unqualified, plus the events are clearly rigged by judges that are woefully under-qualified to run events or judge the work of others. The food costs way too much for just picking crap up in a game store. I'd rather just run to a gas station. It all seemed nice at first but honestly I am just tired at this point. In conclusion, this isn't a gaming store. It's just another case of someone trying to set up their own little hangout with their buddies and driving everyone else away. read more

4 stars because local game stores are important and it does appear that Geekery supports the local geek needs with events and hang out space. Thought we were going to end up getting our hair cut for awhile there. This is not in the most obvious location. The upstairs must contain a lot of the items people have been taking pictures of, but it's not marked that you should or can go upstairs. This isn't the broadest selection of games or comics - I'm not sure it's random but it was a little strange to me. There were Munchkin expansions and the stand alone sets like Munchkin Bites, but no regular Munchkin. Checked out a couple of possibilities to play later and ended up picking up a game I don't own yet but had heard good things about. Prices are not as cheap as Amazon but fair for local stores. There was deck building going on while we were there which was well-attended, so I'm not sure we got the best customer service experience but I don't have complaints necessarily. Being a gamer in Flagstaff I have always been skeptical of new game shops in town, simply because they always seem to close up after just a few months due to minimal client base and poor service/merchandise stock. So when my friend mentioned there was a new game shop in town I decided I'd give it a shot like every other game shop before it. When I first walked into the shop I was shocked to see it crowded, (this was a weekday afternoon mind you). I was soon welcomed by the staff and provided with excellent service. And after spending several days gaming at the shop, over a period of a week I was surprised to find myself friends with the staff of employees as well as other regular patrons. Pros: -The staff is quite knowledge able, friendly, and always prepared to assist. -Despite the limited space of the building there are numerous tables for card gaming and computer gaming as well as terrain covered tables for miniatures games such as Warhammer 40k. -Large flat screen tv and several gaming consoles for video gaming. -Large selection of board games, and well stocked amounts of cards for Magic the Gathering and boxes of Warhammer miniatures. -Large base of regular patrons so there's almost always someone looking to play a game with you. -Comfortable chairs and appropriately sized gaming tables. Cons: -The store is somewhat small and on days when it's full of people it can seem overwhelmingly crowded. -The store focuses primarily in Magic the Gathering and Warhammer, so sometimes it can be difficult to find people to play other games depending on the day. Conclusion: -The Geekery is a great environment for any gamer, whether you're relatively new to gaming or a seasoned veteran. Flagstaff has finally found itself a real game shop. read more

This was an interesting store. Not really what was expected. We found it by searching Games Workshop locations, and the selection of Games Workshop items (mainly paints) was pretty limited. There were other items there as well (comics, board games, etc.), but the selection was small. It seemed more like a gaming space - really nicely laid out space with several tables. An exceptionally welcoming place, the Geekery has a vibrant and diverse community, with a wide range of hobbies and age-groups represented. Magic: The Gathering and Warhammer 40k are the store's main franchises, but an entire wall is panelled with other board and card games, with Fantasy Flight Games products heavily represented. The staff are friendly, and the overall atmosphere is one of amiable, organized chaos. FNM is regularly attended by over 20 people, and there are almost always people, staff and patrons alike, hanging around and willing to help with deck building. The store also has a decent stock of terrain for 40k and other war-games (albeit of variable quality), and the war-games community in the store is consistently expanding. The Geekery is quite honestly Flagstaff's premiere tabletop gaming location. read more

I play here primarily for Magic: The Gathering on Friday nights and occasionally other nights of the week. Since moving to their new location awhile ago, The Geekery has only improved in quality. Prize pools are big for tournaments, the atmosphere is both casual and competitive, and they frequently have food for gamers or even cater the larger tournaments with food from local places. Staff at the front is always friendly and willing to help out gamers. One of my qualms with the place, however, has to deal with a few of the locals. An inevitable issue with running a game shop is that some of your customers will be younger kids who don't understand how the concept of an "indoor voice" works. Also, some of the kids still cuss loudly at random times and don't seem to comprehend that others can't stand that. If you can get over the occasional cuss word being shot into the air and a 13-year-old kid getting on your nerves once in awhile, the Geekery really does have a lot to offer. They have an upstairs room for Warhammer and similar games (which is separated from the card-game tables). They sell a ton of different board games and have all the card-game supplies you could ever want. Their case of Magic cards is huge (they actually have 2) and they actively buy cards all the time. They have a decent selection of snacks (I'd like to see it grow to include things like microwaveable burritos and whatnot), but they have a plethora of cold beverages. Until I leave Flagstaff in a couple months, this is where I'll be playing Magic. While there are a few subtle ways the shop could improve, playing Magic anywhere else just doesn't cut it. read more

When I stop in a new city, I like to visit some of the FLGS stores to see what is happening in the area. My wife and I stopped in to The Geekery, as we are both gamers, and wanted to scope the place out. We were greeted at the door, but that is about as far as the helpfulness went. I guess the staff were too busy selling singles to assist us at all. The product selection was "Meh" - a handful of singles in the front case, a three walled area with board games, and about 6 boxed sets for miniature games. For the amount of space and how nice the store actually looked, this store could have offered a whole lot more in respect to customer service and product selection. read more

This place is okay. They have some cool stuff going on and you can try out board games. They have a good selection of cards, and some of the people that work there are very cool and want to get to know you, so right on (Cindy, I think her name is, she's cool). They also have a lot of tournaments frequently and they draw a lot of attention. However, the staff is generally very weak. You often have to beg for attention and no one wears a name tag or uniform so you can't tell who's working there. The people that do work there can often be found smoking directly in front of the doorway, which personally makes me not want to give them my business. If you're lucky enough to get someone's attention at least they kind of act like they want to sell you something, but know you're going to have to work for it most days. If you're an introvert, like me I'd just stay away. Oh, also, 12 year olds running around cursing and acting like they own the place. Everywhere. Not family friendly. Sometimes they have some angry dogs that they don't really control (don't get me wrong, I love the dogs) but when they're barking aggressively at people trying to come in, you have a problem. So overall, a cool joint but the staff is mostly repulsive. They make me wonder how much they must pay them to stand around and smoke all day in front of kids. read more

This place recently moved and review is based on new location. The customer service was horrible. I went in wanting to just get started in trying out Warhammer 40k. Basically asking for set of rules and enough to do mock matches with myself but was simply told to just leave and google stuff (not joking). The selection inside was horrible but I was constantly told they could special order anything I wanted they didn't have. So can I and not have to pay their markup. It was like pulling teeth to get anything out of the staff with regards to what I wanted to know. Me and my fiancée left feeling like we were just the victims of some misplaced pent up nerd angst. The 2 stars is simply because it seems like someone is paying rent to have a place for people to mainly get together and play MTG 40k and other TTGs. But we personally left feeling not just jaded by the people inside the store but turned off to the entire idea of TTGs/40k for fear the community in general is as elitist. read more

I grew up in Flagstaff and have always enjoyed playing magic, but I have never found a really large group of players. That all changed when I entered The Geekery. I have been playing Friday Night Magic at this store for a while, and I have found that I have had a really great time playing here! I highly advise anyone who plays this card game to play at this store as they have a huge Magic community! read more

They closed at the end of January and said it would only be 2 weeks. A month in a half later there have been no updates and no indication if they ever plan to reopen.... If this place was run more professionally I bet it would still be open today. read more

I have had the pleasure of visiting the Geekery four times on my last visit to Flagstaff, with a friend who is a board game and MTG aficionado. I had lost interest in Magic long ago, but in the friendly and inviting environment of this shop I had to opportunity to play against many different people and re-discover my spark. The best day there was without a doubt Friday Night Magic, a raucous affair where the competition was great and the prizes generous (even though I did not win top scores I had the chance to open several booster packs of my friend's, who scored 6th I believe). I also left town with the game Agricola, a fantastic game I had a chance to sample at the store on the owner's suggestion (they have numerous board games available for people to freely play, along with an XBOX360 and a large TV, and PS the owners, a husband and wife, were very welcoming, helpful, and often down to play). All in all, a great experience at this store...truly a comfortable and clean environment to just BE and nerd out with like-minded folks! read more
