It's quaint, unique, and feels like a hidden gem everyone secretly knows about. What makes it extra special are the handwritten staff reviews on select books. Like actual little love notes telling you why you need to read something. It's way more fun than just reading the synopsis and it feels personal, and thoughtful. They also sell, adorable book accessories, kids' toys, and other cute knick knacks. There's even a small sale section, reasonably priced books, and some signed copies that are clearly marked. It's right by downtown, so super convenient, but definitely try to get there early because parking garages and street spots can fill up fast on weekends. Overall, it's giving cozy, and I truly loved how much personality those handwritten reviews added. It just made the whole experience feel extra special and memorable.

I loved this shop when Brennan was manager, but since Stephen took over, things have gone downhill fast. This place employs people who hold and express white supremacist views. One employee once told me outright that if he got a wife, he "didn't want property" -- making it crystal clear he sees people with melanin as less than human. The staff is entirely white, and that attitude shows. I was eventually banned after showing an accurate historical depiction of Yehoshua (Jesus) as a Black man. Stephen, the new manager, took issue with that and has been looking for a reason to get rid of me ever since. The official reason given was "Poor treatment of Geekery Patrons as viewed by staff" -- every single friend I've asked disagrees completely. If you're not white and/or not a regular customer, they'll undercut you whether you're selling your cards for cash or trading them in for store credit -- typically by about 10% -- and pocket the difference. This is primarily a Magic: The Gathering shop, and they genuinely do not care about Pokémon, One Piece, Gundam, or Flesh & Blood. If you play anything other than Magic, you're an afterthought here. It's always been like that and I don't think they will change... The store is also not child friendly. I repeatedly had to remind people to stop cursing around kids. Staff never stepped in to handle it. On top of everything else, their pricing has gotten worse. They used to sell at MSRP, but now they charge market price on items -- which is usually double what you should be paying. Cab Comics up the street has much better prices and is a far more welcoming environment overall. Cab Comics treats everyone the same, they don't give special treatment to those only read/buy comics or just white people... I wouldn't recommend selling cards here, and I wouldn't recommend spending your time or money in a place that treats non-white people this way.

As a fan of dice, I spent most of my time here at The Geekery staring at the dice. My husband was mesmerized by the MTG and other trading cards they had. The employees were able to answer his questions, which he tends to have a lot when it comes to his collectibles. The store was well organized and the prices were pretty standard from what I see at game stores. We are both glad we stopped by The Geekery.

Of course, she was referring to Crystal Magic, in downtown Flagstaff (Arizona), on the corner of San Francisco Street and Route 66. Admittedly, I was not interested in coming here. But, I could tell that coming here would really make my daughter happy, so in we went. And, as disinterested as I was in coming here, I actually enjoyed looking around this store with my daughter. I think most of the people who come here do so because they believe in feelings or energy that emanates from objects, like rocks. To me, this sounds silly; but having the scientific mind that I do, I did get a lot of enjoyment out of the geological beauty of the items for sale here. Just imagining the incredible physical and chemical processes that produced these beautiful earth-made objects amazes me, along with how beautiful they can be. Looking around in this store was a real treat. It is not only incredibly well organized, but there is also something beautiful to look at in every direction. The owners here must have over a million dollars worth of items for sale here, all packed within this store. They obviously sell several types of precious crystals in multiple forms, but they also sell incense, candles, books, journals, wind chimes, and several other items. I was also pleased with the staff here, who were friendly and professional during my visit. If you're even a little interested in these types of things, Crystal Magic is a great place to shop. You should definitely check this store out if you're in the area. But if you do like the types of things sold here, and you do come inside, be prepared to drop some serious cash. They have a lot of great items for sale.

The book was due May 11, but I needed the SAME book for my Summer semester that started immediately after Spring finals ended on May 8. Before the due date, I repeatedly called the phone number listed on the bookstore emails and rental receipt to ask about extending or re-renting the book. No answer. Yesterday, I found out there was another number for the NAU bookstore. With that number, I finally reached someone, Shaun (supervisor). I explained the entire situation. I also mentioned that I had multiple assignments due on Sunday, 5/24, including two papers, while balancing an internship, three children, and a full-time student status. Shaun, the supervisor, repeatedly told me the ONLY option was to send the book back so it could arrive by Tuesday, 5/26, so I could get a refund and then rent it again afterward. I explained several times that I could not return the book because I actively needed it for current coursework and had been trying to contact them BEFORE the due date. I asked to speak to someone above him, and he said it would be the marketing manager and that he wouldn't be able to do much for me. Instead of acknowledging the bookstore's outdated contact information or making a reasonable exception, I was charged $152.67 plus an additional fee, bringing the total to $266.34 for a rented textbook. What made the situation even more frustrating was being told I should have Googled or looked somewhere else for the number. I looked it up and found the same outdated number listed in the bookstore emails: 928-523-4041. But I mostly relied on the information in the emails that they sent. Students should not be penalized for relying on the official contact information provided by the university. I'm posting this so other students are aware: the contact numbers provided in NAU Bookstore emails may not work, and if you rely on them, you may still be penalized. Students already balancing school, work, internships, and families deserve better communication and customer service than this.
