Today we were craving some Empanadas. Based on all the wonderful reviews and comments we chose Gonzos Empanandas on Pines Blvd. They came through with flying colors. We started off with the baked Chicken and Mushroom Empananda (so yummy), followed by the fried Beef Empananda. We were so full, we ended up having to take the last one home with us. (Chicken Parm empanada). Keep in mind, they over thirty flavors to choose from! The "guy" at the counter, Gonzo, who is also the owner, is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet. I was recommended this as the best empanada around and they were not kidding! Super fresh, super stuffed and super fast service! Grabbed an order for a quick bite between errands and ate inside in this cozy shop as they do have a few tables but great for on the go as well. I really liked this place! Really fun concept and great flavors! I tried the regular beef, Cuban sandwich and mojo pork empanadas. The fillings were all delicious and each individual empanada is huge. I would love to come back and try more options. The owners are very sweet and loved explaining all of the flavors to us. Had Gonzo for the first time recently and was really craving empanadas--this place did not disappoint! I got the 3 empanada combo with a side and a drink. What stood out right away was how fresh everything was. They give you the option to have them baked or fried--I went with baked. Gonzo's Empanadas is a hidden gem! I ordered six different empanadas -- Philly cheesesteak, two beef, asado negro, Cuban sandwich, and a creamy mushroom steak-- every single one was incredible. The outside was crispy, flaky, and perfectly fried, but still sturdy enough to hold everything together without falling apart. The fillings were hot, juicy, and full of flavor -- you could tell everything was made with care. The Philly cheesesteak was easily my favorite -- rich, cheesy, and super comforting. We also tried the tequeños and they were ridiculously good -- golden, crispy on the outside, and oozing with warm cheese inside. All around, it was a fantastic experience. I wanted to try some empanadas from a different place. These are made to order rather than just reheated like other places. The fillings are very generous. Came one morning after running an errand in this plaza. I had a discount certificate from a website that the still has them listed but apparently they don't work with anymore. Gonzo and his wife Laura were accommodating and still honored the certificate as they didn't want me to leave without getting some empanadas. They are lovely people and we had great conversations about food and kids while I waited for my empanadas to be made.They have a monthly flavor that changes as well as a large selections that can be baked or fried there or taken home frozen to prepare yourself when ready. There is also a smaller selection of ready made to go options but they are definitely more basic. They have coffee and various other beverages to grab and go along with other food items. The empanadas are a very nice size and filled well. They offer different sauces as well to compliment the empanadas. I got a half dozen and they were all tasty in their own right. Gonzo's empanadas was a game changer. I have never had empanadas like the empanadas I had at this place. I had the ham egg and cheese empanada. I've never thought that was even possible and I had that at gonzo's but not it was amazing. It was great. Also had a Panini sandwich that Panini sandwich was amazing. Service is awesome. They made sure I had everything I had. It was really really good as far as ambience. They have a little they have probably a couple of chairs tables you can go in and snack on your food or not, but doesn't have a crazy ambience. My boyfriend's roommate had randomly ordered from here one day and sung the place high praises. Consequently, one day talking to Sean M., I mentioned wanting to try this place and he beat me to going to it. He also heavily enjoyed this place. As a result, I got more and more interested in trying it, and well, the day finally came when I did. Turns out I went on a Saturday near lunchtime. I opted to order there as I had several questions, it being my first time there and all. It looks like the pepperoni and macaroni and cheese empanadas weren't very popular, so those are no longer made. That and I learned that the classic flavors are usually on display. You know, your beef, chicken, spinach flavors. The more unknown and creative flavors are made to order. They usually take fifteen minutes or so to bake, so it may be in your best interest to call and order beforehand. Laura attended me and she was very sweet. She had patience with me and my huge order. I had originally gone with the intention of ordering eight empanadas, but given a special they're currently running, it's cheaper to get a dozen. Or at the very least it made more sense. The difference was $3. That said, I ordered many empanadas. To be specific, I ordered: -2 Chicken Spinach Alfredo -1 Margarita -1 Chicken Parmesan -1 Korean BBQ Chicken -1 Chorizo & Cheese -1 Meat Lovers -1 Broccoli & Cheese -1 Curry Chicken -1 Mojo Pulled Pork -1 BBQ Pulled Pork -1 Creamy Mushroom Steak All those empanadas came out to three per person as there were four of us. What was even better was that they happily separated the empanadas per person, even labeling the names of each individual. They really went out of their way to make sure we were pleased. To top it off, while I waited, I ordered a large cappuccino and that coffee was sheer perfection with three spoons of sugar. Honestly, I was very impressed, and even then, I don't feel that covers it. Each and every empanada was made and packed with care. I also feel that this is a place for everyone. While one empanada might not tickle your fancy, another one definitely will. There is just so much variety. Of all the ones I tried, I loved the broccoli and cheese one best. It felt like eating a broccoli and cheese soup in a bread bowl. The Korean BBQ chicken and the curry chicken followed soon after. I will definitely return and recommend Gonzo's Empanadas to all my friends. This place quite easily is five stars. I wish them much success in these trying times. I first discovered these empanadas when the owner sold them door to door in the medical building I worked at years ago. Well worth the wait as they come out hot, fresh, and you can choose baked or fried. Baked was the recommendation and that's what I went with. They were perfection. We went crazy and ordered a dozen for the two of us. The online ordering was super easy. I picked them up in 30 minutes. They come in like a pizza box. Each empanada is stamped with an few letters so you know what's what by looking the receipt which serves as a legend. The only sad part was that not all the flavors were available. I got a call almost immediately after I placed my online order and the lady said they didn't have two of the ones I ordered, so I had to choose 2 other ones. They were stuffed well and most of mine I enjoyed. You can do fried or baked. Obviously, we got them fried. I think my favorites may have been the corn and meat lovers. The Peruana was at the bottom for me, followed by the margherita. The other ones in the middle were... beef, curry chicken, korean bbq, mushroom chicken. Solid place.
