This Gong Cha location is such a perfect location to chill with your friends and to take a break. The interior design brings a comforting environment while the background music totally gives off a sensational vibe! The places is relatively more spacious than any other bubble tea places I've visited. The BEST part was that poke is right next to Gong Cha. Such a blessing to be able to enjoy a meal and complimenting the experience with a bubble tea right after. The customer service was excellent. This was my first time trying Gong Cha and was overwhelmed by the different toppings they have: grass jelly, pudding, coconut, ai-yu and white jelly. The cashier was kind enough to go through his recommendations and I decided to go with the Earl Grey with 3 Js. The drink had the right amount of milk and tea to balance the rich and flavorful taste. After an afternoon of exploring museums downtown I had developed a craving for bubble tea and decided to stop in here. It's a small place inside a poke restaurant but with a separate counter-- feels new and modern on the inside which was nice. I got a coffee milk tea with tapioca (my go to order at most bubble tea places) and it did not disappoint! It was the perfect sweetness (they let you select the amount of sweet you want) and the ratio of drink to tapioca was spot on. Usually love Gong Cha, but this location keeps taking orders when they can't handle more. It doesn't look too busy and the text they sent me said my drink would be ready in 15-20 minutes but talking around to people they said they had been waiting for over an hour! We finally called it at 30 minutes and were able to flag someone down to get a refund (which is why I added one ) but they were essentially making drinks an hour behind for people who had already left and said forget it. A total mess and huge waste of time - would not recommend if you have other things you want to do that day. read more

I love Gong Cha a lot but my god this place was way way way too crowded when I went. I just ordered a grapefruit aiyu tea and I waited probably 30+ minutes for it. I get that there's not a lot that can be done if a ton of people come in but be warned that you're going to have to wait a long time on weekends. I tried this location located inside Poke DC near Metro Center/Gallery Place.The line was extremely long on the weekend wrapping throughout the store and into the waiting area. The cashier moved through the orders quickly but then we waited for probably 30-45 minutes to actually receive the drink. I think I would stick to the one in Annandale if I returned. They have a full range of teas, sweetness levels, shales, milk foam and add-ins including pearl boba, jellies, red beans I did appreciate their selection of herbal/black teas that could be custom made without sweetness. I tried the milk foam oolong which was actually very tasty despite the wait. The foamy milk on top was not sweet and complemented the tea and slightly sweet aiyu jelly (figs) Regardless boba is always fun with the unlimited combinations and additions. I would like to return during a less busy time. I think the layout could be improved with a better waiting area and queuing as well as number system. Gongcha is one of my favor tea spots. they have a wide of variety of drinks here that they will most likely have something that suits your tastes, whether you like fruit drinks, sweet drink, or bitter drinks. Been here a couple times while in downtown DC with a boba craving. I found the quality of the drinks to be on par for Gong Cha, that is to say pretty good! My favorite drink is the Earl Grey Milk Tea with 3J -- earl grey milk tea with boba, pudding, and grass jelly. The boba is a good texture and with a starchy, slightly sweet flavor. The only downsides are the prices, which are a little steep (but I guess you pay for the location) and the sweetness - I usually order less sweet but the actual taste of the drink has been inconsistent between my different visits. Overall though I do think this is one of the best boba spots in Washington and I'd definitely recommend it! read more

I love Gong Cha so much!!! Although I don't really get their milk teas, I love that they have a lot of other yummy drinks I can choose from. I'm from California and my boyfriend lives near Gong Cha in Buena Park. He loves milk teas so we are always going to Gong Cha. Gong Cha holds super fond memories of the times when my boyfriend and I would go there at night and just talk with him and his friends. The bathrooms in here are very clean~ so you know that they are a clean place. I also judge a place's bathroom because you can tell if they are conscious of their bathroom, then they are also conscious of the cleanliness of their products. This is my first time trying Gong Cha and I'm hooked. Most milk tea places give you these options, but I do love that you can pick the level of sweetness and ice to match your preferences. I've ordered both the milk foam green tea and matcha milk tea and both were wonderful. The bubbles are a great consistency each time - not too soft and not too chewy. Great tea....the only thing that kept me from giving 5 stars is that the same guy who is always at the register sticks his hand inside your cup as he is grabbing it. This is after taking money and touching that computer and I find that to be gross. There isn't a lot of seating but depending on the day you can grab a bar stool or a seat solo at the long table. Not a good spot if you have kids and need to sit down. There are only two tables and I have never seen a high chair. That doesn't apply to me...just my two cents read more

My friend told me about the poke place (poki dc) that they share a space with and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they actually share a space with gongcha. I often frequented the gongcha in cupertino back in high school and love that there are more options for boba in the city (in such a great location too, within walking distance from gw campus). The people working there were really friendly and helped me both with the poke and finding a drink that I would enjoy (the menu is very extensive so they're very helpful for indecisive people like me). Tried the pearl milk tea and the earl grey milk tea with 3Js (have since visited again). Both did not disappoint and I would definetly recommend! I would be mindful of the sweetness especially if you're used to places like Kung Fu Tea because they don't sweeten their teas near as much as KFT (but for me this was a much needed break as I personally find KFT to always be too sweet). I ordered my drinks both at 50% sweetness and 30% ice. The pearls are a nice and chewy consistency, not like Teashi on campus where they are hard. I was a bit weary about the earl grey milk tea because it had ingredients I don't normally get, like egg pudding and grass jelly, but they actually complimented the drink very well. The milk tea itself on both tastes very good, with the earl grey definitely being more fragrant. While I have only enjoyed my milk teas cold before, they offer them hot (a tempting premise with how cold it has gotten in the district). TLDR; I will be back! SO good to have an actual milktea place so close to school! I've tried other milktea places in the area and this beats Sharetea or Kung Fu Tea by MILES! The quality of the tea is the best you can find in the DC area, especially near the city. Better than anything you can find in Chinatown, for sure. But not only is the tea itself better, this location is new and very clean and great to be in! It's always very clean and the bathroom is spotless. I personally like to study there and I like to take pictures with the living wall inside cuz its makes a great background for pictures of my milktea ;) I also like to try new drinks sometimes and the staff is VERY helpful and nice. there's also a loyalty program!!! There is also nice poki place in the same location too! But it gets very busy around noon or so so I recommend coming later in the day. I have given Gong Cha two chances, visited two in different areas but they're both similar in the fact that they just aren't the best boba. I've had the taro bubble tea which was very grainy and I've had the brown sugar milk tea which was just... eh. It was a cute place, I'll give it that. Gong Cha shares a space with Poki DC...convenient for satisfying both poki and bubble tea cravings but means limited seating for enjoying tea. I've only had their pearl milk tea but it was delicious! The tea was really smooth. I usually get 50% sugar but it would probably be excellent at a lesser sugar level as well. The bubbles were well made and they give a good amount with each drink. This is one of my favorite milk tea stores! I work in downtown and couldn't find a good drink store until it's open! Employees are very nice and always patient to answer my questions about drinks. Now I almost get one drink here every day. One of my favorite drinks here is matcha milk tea. It tastes very naturally like vegetal taste. It has a lingering sweet aftertaste. So happy about gong cha's opening in DC. I caught it on the last day of its soft opening where they had a buy one get one free. They are a little pricey at regular price but so good! My drinks were made perfectly. I had a mango black tea with boba and original boba milk tea with basil seed add-in (25 percent sweet). Both were exactly how I like them with the boba a perfectly chewy, not gloppy texture and flavor. There are a couple of other bubble tea options in DC nowadays but this location definitely is in the running for my affection.
