As a fellow boba lover, I will admit this place is good but it's not my favorite. I opted for the pearl milk tea with white pearls only because they were out out of regular boba. I enjoyed it and my friend got the crème brulee tea and the top tasted amazing but the rest of the tea was bland. The interior was cute. I've been a long time fan of Gong Cha but have never really had a problem, until today. I ordered a oolong milk tea with "no ice" (on the left) and a black milk tea with "light ice" (on the right). These are the drinks that they made. I saw how the cup is literally 20% empty and asked one of the employees if there is a reason why the cup is not filled, and she said back to me, not very nicely "We make our drinks based on ratio and you said no ice". First of all... I ordered this $7 oolong milk tea off of the menu, NOT oolong milk tea+ ice. No where does it say that your drink comes default with ice. If customizing my drink is an option like your menu offered, why am I getting 20% less product for doing so? Is this the way your store advertises that when a drink is ordered, I don't get 100% of what I'm paying for? When I took the second photo, the ice in the black milk tea has already melted, and it looks like the cup is full. If you guys make drinks based on some ratio, do you account for the ice that's going to melt and dilute the flavor? If so, why didn't you just add water to my drink so I can have the same ratio? At least I won't walk away with a 20% empty cup that I paid $7 for. I've been to a few different Gong Cha locations and this has never been a problem, at least not to this degree. I understand not filling the cup up to avoid spilling, account for easier sealing... but this is ridiculous. Just look at my drink. read more

Gong Cha's arrival to SA's growing boba scene couldn't have come at a better time. The demand is at an all-time high and the boba chains are moving in. Thankfully I feel this chain from Taiwan is among the better ones and might be at least at this point, one of the best options in the city. The place is still fairly new and smells wonderful. Very young entrepreneurs run this joint and they have a number of young people manning the counter. The parking is not an issue, and there is some seating inside as well as a nice group table out front The drinks for the most part get a big thumbs up. They've been good about making sure you get exactly the drink you wanted. The classic milk tea is always consistent and even a little creamy. The brown sugar line drinks are popular right now and they have a number of seasonal specials. read more

Dad had the Strawberry Latte, I had the Strawberry Milk Tea and my husband had the Lychee Passionfruit Green Tea. They treated us to the Bubble Waffle, which is similar to Kuma. We had a really nice time chatting to get to know each other's family. As we were leaving, Kevin, Tee's brother, sent us off with 2 more complimentary drinks. Such hospitality and generosity. Love me a Gong Cha, especially this one that just opened on the west side of SA. I've had this franchise bubble tea before on the east coast, so I know that they have quality drinks. They still haven't officially opened (and won't have their grand opening until 10/9), so the manager/owner, who was seated near the front door, yelled "guys" to his employees when we weren't immediately greeted the second we walked through the front door (in typical Asian fashion lol). The decor is super cute inside, with plenty of seating at tables or couches. There are quite a few board games located near the back of the store for bubble tea drinkers to play while enjoying their beverage. They also have free wifi for those who want to study or do work at the store. I got a medium Lemon Wintermelon Basil Seeds with no ice. While most of their drinks are customizable in sugar, this one unfortunately isn't customizable in sugar level. The flavors of my drink were superb, but it was just slightly too sweet for my tastes and left a sticky taste in my mouth. Drinks here are a bit pricey, with medium-sized drinks ranging from $5-$6 and large-sized drinks ranging from $5.25-$6.75. These are base prices, without any additional toppings ($0.50-$0.75 each). Definitely a good spot to grab quality bubble tea, and it's a must-try for those who have never had Gong Cha before! read more

This is the one. If you're looking for legit milk teas, look no further. This is an actual chain from Taiwan so you know it's got to be good. I always get a signature milk tea to determine a place's authenticity, but I opted for the strawberry milk tea and it was amazing. I've never tasted a strawberry milk tea that actually tasted like real strawberries. It did not have the overly powerful artificial powdery taste as many tend to have. It was so so good. I should've gotten a large. The boba is fresh, soft, and chewy. I also got an early grey milk tea with 3Js but that was too many toppings for my liking. We did 50% sweetness level and were happy with that. I think anyone would be happy with a 50-75%. They have different locations. read more

I was super excited to see this place opening soon because even though it is a chain and San Antonio has a lot of boba places, they're not exactly hitting the mark. I test every boba place I go to by getting some version of a brown sugar milk tea. It's so simple that if you mess it up, I don't know what to tell you. If there is one thing I can say about myself is that I am huge fan of boba/milk teas! I was so ecstatic when I heard that Gong Cha finally opened in San Antonio. Although the location isn't the closest to me, I am more than happy to drive here to treat myself to a WINTERMELON milk tea with grass jelly. Apparently, this drink and topping didn't exist in San Antonio prior to Gong Cha. I don't blame the shops, because this drink can be a bit complicated depending if you want a green or black tea base. Interior is nicely decorative with a lot of boba decorations. They have plushies throughout the shop and there are plenty of seats if you want to study or hangout with your friends. Drink: Obviously, I got the wintermelon milk tea with grass jelly. Although I asked for less sweet (70%), it was still too sweet for my liking. Perhaps next time I will ask for 50% sweetness. The wintermelon was decent, not the best I had compared to the boba shops in California and Vegas. It lacked tea flavor, instead I had more milk flavor. But for San Antonio, this is going to be the best so I can not complain. Next time, I am going to try their pearls aka "boba". I am pretty picky when it comes to boba because if you overcook it the consistency won't be as chewy. Instead you will be chewing on hard/firm plastic which is never the best. They also offer other toppings such milk foam, white pearl, star jelly, coconut jelly, pudding, basil seeds, ai-yu jelly and Oreo crumbs. I didn't know San Antonio had a Gong Cha! This place was one of my favorites when living in Houston and also a chain in Asia. Therefore, you can guarantee that you can get legit bubble tea here. I got the brown sugar bubble tea that is currently my addiction. It adds a layer of flavor to the milk tea. Also, try the desserts here at this location! Visited on a Saturday afternoon checking out the latest Boba scene in Alamo Ranch to see what Gong Cha was all about. Upon entering the place is nicely decorated and clean. Approached the counter with no wait at all. The selection and menu is a bit overwhelming and personally I couldn't find the right one. I picked the passion fruit green tea in which was good bit of sweetness. My wife ordered the strawberry taro with strawberry Pearl or syrup with bits of strawberries in it. The strawberry taro was very chocolatey very sweet. Overall preferred the other Boba place in the strip however they were nice enough give us a free mango with milk boba in light of National Boba Tea. My ratings is purely for the selection however the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is great. read more

I've been to gong cha a lot at Austin before they opened in San Antonio and I've always liked them. However, after couple visits here, I don't seem to like their teas completely as to other gong cha. The teas never seem flavorful/strong ever since my first visit to latest. I had their mango green tea and barely tasted the green tea, the mango was overpowering it. The drinks aren't consistent here, it would be more milky sometimes and some more watery. The service is nice though, and got my drinks quickly every time.
