Oh, Golly Gee, I love you. This is my hometown. Right here. It's not fancy. It's not big. But it's good and those that live here know it. I have been to Golly Gee at least once a summer since I was riding in car seats. It's all about the soft-serve here for me. I used to vary it. Different flavors (vanilla and orange sherbet twist, mint, chocolate) Toppings (sprinkles, chocolate dip) Sometimes sundaes, flurries (Golly Gee's version of a Blizzard). But now since I know I won't be here much, it's a medium vanilla/chocolate twist cone. And it's still oh so good. (FYI: the ice cream is supplied by Toft's) My sister's childhood fave was the dusty road sundae, chocolate ice cream, chocolate syrup with malt mix poured on top. Once, my mom had them make a special gift certificate book for dusty road sundaes as a birthday present. As a kid we just got ice cream, but Golly Gee also has food. The standard drive-in food---cheeseburgers, corndogs, onion rings, etc. Made to order and tasty---this is not a health food joint and thank goodness! When I was little, you had to park and go into the little "porch" to order. I remember reaching through the little windows for my treats. Later, they added a drive-thru window which makes it easy to stay on the move, but you'll still see locals sitting on picnic tables enjoying their treats. Golly Gee is, and always will be, Sandusky to me.

Stopped in after all day in cedar point and got 4 sundaes. All were great. I suggest peanut butter sauce. Buckeye something.

5/5 Stars -- Ohio's Ice Cream Legend…read more By far the best place in Ohio to get fresh, amazing ice cream. I mean, Toft's Dairy has like 50 flavors--seriously, there's something for everyone. You can grab a cone, a cup, or even buy ice cream to take home for the family. And it's not just ice cream--they have milk, specialty drinks, and even fun merch like t-shirts. My personal favorite? Peanut Butter Cup + Peanut Butter Pretzel--absolute perfection. Creamy, nutty, salty, sweet... all the things you want in a summer treat. Sizes? They've got three, but honestly, the small is perfect: enough to satisfy that ice cream craving without going overboard. Medium is basically a full meal, so pace yourself. What makes it extra special for me: we know someone who works there (we met her at Kalahari), and she loves giving suggestions on flavor combos. Her tips always take a cone from great to legendary. And of course, there's the Cedar Point connection--stopping at Toft's after a day on the rides or after a big sporting event is pure nostalgia. Sticky fingers, huge smiles, and ice cream that tastes like summer memories. Bottom line: Toft's Dairy isn't just ice cream--it's a tradition, a memory, and hands-down the best sweet spot in Sandusky. You go once, and you'll be back again and again.

I have had Toft's ice cream a couple of times before, but the scoop shop experience can always be different. This location is actually there headquarters, factory and the scoop shop. The building has a covered patio out front, there are some cow statues and an original dairy cart out front. Inside they have a large service area with a huge amount of flavors, plus coolers with packed ice cream and ice cream pies. I ordered a medium sized cup with Banana Foster and Caveman Chocolate ice creams. The cup was $7.50 which seemed a bit expensive until I saw the portion size, this was really about 4 scoops of ice cream. The ice cream is nice and smooth with a nice texture and mouthfeel. The banana foster ice cream was slightly sweet and had a mild banana flavor I did not taste the advertised burnt sugar swirl. The Caveman Chocolate was very good with a rich dark chocolate ice cream and a nice amount of chocolate truffles, although again I did not taste the thick fudge swirls. Toft's has some very good ice cream, the scoop shop lacks some of the charm of other ice cream places, not too surprising since it is part of the factory. The ice cream is a bit expensive, but the portions are big. Probably the most flavor choices I have seen at an ice cream place.

The lady taking our order must have been having a rough day as she was short tempered with everyone who came across her. Luckily when it was my turn, I was able to order without catching any 'tude. Decided to try the new mixing bowl mashup blizzard, which combined brownie batter and chocolate chip cookie dough into one cup. So good! If you can't decide, recommend giving this limited time treat after try. Also tried some of their newest dipped cone flavor - Crunchin' Cookie, soft serve (went with chocolate) dipped in a blue chocolate cookie-flavored coating. This one is also good!

As we were waiting in line and it not moving we made our 2nd mistake by not leaving. At 9:17p a worker (gentleman) came out and assured us as we were waiting in line that we WOULD STILL BE SERVED since we were in line well before 9:30pm (3rd mistake was we believed him). At 9:31pm we see a worker leave. 9:35pm we finally get to speaker to be told "sorry we are closed" we informed girl we had been in line and we're told by worker outside we would be served and then she said "well out system went down." Which I don't believe at all because if that was true how would the two cars in front of us (who were still waiting for food & to pay) pay for their food if system was down. Also, her attitude was horrible & rude. I wish I would have read the reviews before stopping as the most recent ones have had awful experiences as well. I strongly recommend not going to this DQ, let them go out of business! We ended up going to McDonald's (wish we had to being with) and they were extremely friendly, quick, & from pulling in, ordering, paying, & getting our items it took less than 5 minutes.

My trusty Yelp app came in good once again by finding dessert places and we decided to try out Joe Sundae's. While a little bit off the beaten path from Cedar Point traffic or even the downtown section of Sandusky, Joe Sundae's is an affordable little restaurant that the locals go to. They have a decent selection of locally produced Toft's ice cream, in which you can order a few different scoops of ice cream, make into sundaes or however you like it. They also have a selection of other drinks and food, but an old ice cream parlor seems to be their bread and butter. Service was prompt and friendly as well. Definitely a place folks in Sandusky or visiting Sandusky should give a try.
