This thai restaurant is run by Laotians and therefore super similar to Thai food. This place has both super authentic thai food and Americanized thai food. Both delectable. The avocado green curry is surprisingly good, a lot more creamy and has chunks of avocado nothing like a guac/curry dish. And you can't go wrong with drunken noodles, always hits the spot. By far, hands-down one of the best Thai restaurants I've ever had. Not just Thai restaurants in Utah, but Thai restaurants around the world. I have never been to Thailand but my daughter was there for a while and says it is just like eating in the mother country :-) My go to is typically yellow curry and yellow curry here was incredible. The reason we decided to try this restaurant was because of the decor and pictures of the food. The decor has two banners that say "Laos" on them below one of the very famous monks of Thailand. This told me that the owners have a Laotian background. (The best "Thai" food is in the east, or Isaan, because the food is heavily influenced by Laotian cuisine). This is one of the few Thai restaurants that I've tried in America that does Nam Tok and Som Tum right. Some people have noted that service can be a little slow, this is because they are actually cooking in the back. For instance, the steak in the Nam Tok was not cooked earlier in the day and then put in the dish, it was cooked while we waited. It's worth waiting for food prepared when you order it. I said the pictures of the food brought me here. Mostly the curries because they weren't watered down like so many restaurants. We really enjoyed the food. Nang found out I lived in Thailand and she made the food the right way, not the Americanized way. I can't wait to go back and try other dishes. read more

I'm not sure how the reviews are so good. The food gets 4 stars, the service gets 2. Came on a Friday night for takeout, the restaurant was half full, several empty tables with dirty dishes on them. She said takeout would be 25-30 minutes, it was a solid hour. We asked about vegetarian options and she only suggested the simple vegetable stir-fry. So we talked a little more and she couldn't even tell us if the Tom yum or the Tom kha were vegetarian broths. When we finally we're able to order, we ordered (all with tofu) the drunken noodles (9.99), the golden thai Curry (10.99), and pad cashew (9.99), with a mango sticky rice (5.99) for dessert. Ordering was complicated and she had us going back and forth in the restaurant, so when we did finally order I'm not sure we knew what we got. When she did, it was $50+, and we only realized on the way home she overcharged us by at least $10. We were able to get that fixed after calling them. After leaving and coming back 30 minutes later as she suggested and waited without anyone coming to the front for at least 10 minutes (same tables still with dirty dishes on them), she finally popped her head out and was surprised to see us. Sure then searched for our food. Thirty minutes later she came out with it and we brought it home. As for the dishes, the curry was surprisingly good but mostly sauce, the noodles pretty good but underseasoned, the pad cashew was sweet with few cashews but the veggies were fresh. As a lover of mango sticky rice, I was sad. Underripe mango and a super thin slab of rice. My husband called it sticky rice leather. So, I'm sounding pretty negative, I know and I hate that, but I am simply making sure you have enough info to *not* make the same mistake we did and trust all the amazing reviews. Have very great taste and made me want to keep eating it even when I was full. We've been missing Thai since the owners of our favorite place retired. Looked up some places when visiting Utah and stumbled on Golden Thai -- it did not disappoint. The owners were friendly and we had some nice small talk, wife Marina lived near us in Nor Cal before joining her husband in Utah. I always have trouble deciding which dishes to order. We had two different curries, a green curry + coconut milk (and chicken) and a red curry with seafood. Oh, and some Drunken Noodles packed with a variety of fresh veggies. Someone has some mad knife skills, the carrots were cut in amazing cris-cross shapes. Choose the protein of your choice or keep it vegetarian. Since two of the three dishes were spicy I asked to have the spice toned down on the noodles. It was perfect and came with some chili powder on the side for the "some-like-it-hot" folks at the table. I gave them 40 minutes. When I get the nasty lady in the front tells me in the most rude tone. It's not ready. I said ok we'll do you know how much longer I have to go back to work. She says I don't know, we are busy and walks away. Comes back several minutes later and says so you want it or no. So I can tell them not to cook it. We got the Golden Thai Curry which is red, yellow, and green curry mixed together with beef, pork, and chicken. It was SO GOOD. That's why this place is getting 5 stars.
