We put Bean Bakery Café into the GPS, and on the way there, we passed a plaza with another Bean Café location. We were a little confused at first, but decided to stop at the one we passed since it was closer. I'm not sure why the GPS sent us to the other location, but I'm glad we spotted this one! We ended up getting a cheesecake cupcake, which was phenomenal, and a chocolate-covered cannoli cupcake that was also really good. We also got a chocolate chip cookie that was honestly to die for! We tried an iced coffee as well. It was good, although it had so much flavor that it didn't taste much like coffee to me. I will say the prices are definitely on the higher end for a bakery, but I also believe you get what you pay for, and the quality of the baked goods was there. Everything we tried was delicious, and I would definitely come back to try more of their treats. It was a great little find while we were out looking for a birthday treat!

Both were definitely worth trying! Parking is limited, which can be a little inconvenient. Also, be aware that there is another location just down the road that didn't come up when we entered the address into our GPS, so double-check before heading out. Overall, a great spot for coffee and something sweet, and I would definitely go back!

But I was on a mission : - ) I was in the city yesterday to visit relatives and thinking of what to bring to them would not be deter me as I snaked my way through all the construction. Trying not the be negative, the thought entered my mind that this wonderful place may not have made it through the pandemic... But there it was - lights on and someone walked out while I was parking... The on-way street has parking on both sides. I've always found it to be tough to find a spot... but I hit it right, finding one directly across! I was greeted by the nicest, friendly clerk who chatted with me some while she hand- sifted powdered sugar over a few paczkis ( Polish/Eastern European donuts) I bought. I kept going... hoping for a cheese babka, they only had a few other kinds - it was late morning. So I opted for a Walnut Strudel that looked delish. I added a few more items to my purchase. She packed them well. Leaving, it took more snaking around the streets, but not too bad. I just want to remind people that what you purchase here will not be as "sweet" as grocery store bought. The Kosher certified pastries, cookies etc. are made in the old world tradition and are exactly as they should be- as they've always been. They are meant to be shared over steamy cups or coffee, tea and engaging conversation. When I arrived my relatives were all smiles awaiting what was in my bags/boxes.. happy to see me? or the pastry? LOL

The cases and shelves are fully stocked with cookies and breads, and off to one corner sits a refrigerated cased with Apple Tarts that seem to be beckoning. I was unsure if the tart was made at the bakery due to the packaging and label. But it looked good, so I grabbed them to go. I thought the tarts were delicious, not overly sweet with a nice texture. I'd look forward to eating these again. Alas there were no French Eclairs, my perennial favorite, and there could be a greater selection of pastries. That said, this is a great local spot to score some fresh bread or tasty treats!

This place fits the bill under both categories! Many years ago, before I moved to Worcester, my friend made me follow an Instagram account that was basically carb porn. Day after day, I'd check out their bizarre and scrumptious cupcake flavors, fantasizing about the day that I'd make it there. Back then, Worcester felt like a such a pain to get to that it took me a while to get there. But when I finally found this tiny little place tucked away on Water St, it was like that moment in Willy Wonka where Charlie is aghast at all the sugary delights around him. It was every frosted fantasy come to life. I try not to go TOO often, because I don't want to be condemned to a life of stretchy pants. But when I do go, it's a serious struggle not to try every creative confection in their case. Their treats are INCREDIBLE.

Good location, tough parking if you can't get in their small lot and good luck scoring a table (i think there were only 2!) But that's not the reason for disappointment. It's the product. Magic cookie bars are one of my favorite sweet treats so I had to buy one (at a high cost of $7!) It's heavy and dense but the flavor... the crust was inconsistent. Too thick and too think at points. The taste... it tastes like an M&M (with a slight hint of coconut.) I could have saved myself a lot of money just buying a bag of M&M's. But I don't like M&M's! See the problem? (And there were small M&M's on the top which is ok but it was overpowering.) I also had to try something cupcake related right? My daughter got a huge slice of funfetti cake. I had one layer of the cake. I can share the frosting was thick and dense. I like it sweet and melts in my mouth. Thus was not that. The cake itself was dense too. I was my cake fluffy. Overall I was let down and Queens Cup is off the return list.

Cool higher end culinary items for purchase and some other weird but welcome items like handmade soap! Good community posting board! Chill vibes and surly baristas that make you feel like you're in a bigger city! What I don't love: there are never signs telling what the baked items are, so you literally have to ask one by one at every visit- as does every single person in line. It makes me feel guilty for the people behind me and I often rush before fully exploring my options. This is made worse when I bring my small indecisive child, so I go elsewhere when I have him with me. Also- 90% of the time that I have asked, the attending barista isn't certain what the baked items are and says something like "I think that one is an apricot and cheese danish. Or cheese and some fruit. I'm not positive." At Crust's prices, I'd like to know what I'm buying and I would appreciate time to make a decision. Why won't you tell us what your yummy pastries are?? Lastly- the automatic tipping options are so high (this is coming from someone who never tips below 20%) that it makes me wonder if you're paying your employees appropriately, or expecting tips to make up the difference. If you were to change one thing and one thing only from this feedback, PLEASE consider labeling your baked goods! I truly cannot think of a good reason why not to.

I loved what I saw from street view already, being someone who loves quaint homeyness over hoity-toity pretentiousness, but upon walking in I almost knew immediately this would be the spot. It's a lovely little bakery, in a very quiet part of Worcester, and I felt invited in by the staff upon entering. Mara knew who we were, sat us down and provided excellent samples on a platter and discussed our favorite colors, ideas, etc. during our consultation. By the time she finished, my fiance looked at me and we exchanged the decision that we were going with On The Rise. Now, it's a way's off before I'll see what our wedding cake turns out to be, but the samples we tried were wonder, the presentation was beautiful, the service was excellent, and I love knowing I'm supporting a truly local staple. The frosting on the cake was so bitter that no one ate it at all! In addition, when I came to pick it up, they were just finishing the cake up and did not let it rest! When we started cutting it at the bday party, the cake was basically falling apart. I never had such a bad experience anywhere. I paid over $130 for the cake to end up throwing all frosting away. I called the same day and asked why frosting was so bitter, like metal taste, and at first, they hang up on me, and when I called back they said its because the color of frosting was red color! What a non sense excuse! They just added so much dye that it was impossible to eat!! It stained everything and I could still taste bitterness 2 hours after eating it. Also, sensative individuals could have gotten sick from it! You would think their bakers would try it first when they prepare mixture. I will definitely not going back again ever. Please be careful! In addition, they didn't put my decorations I brought for the cake a week before. Bunch of new people and bakers probably with no experience, but charging the same money. I would rather order from a grocery store next time for half a price and better quality.
