The food was good however when it came to getting packages of duck sauce the lady only gave me 3 packets and would not give me more when I asked for more. I ended up having to buy some for Harris Teeter next door. This was definitely unacceptable. read more

Since I was pleasantly surprised with their Singapore Noodles (though not spicy enough), ordered Take-Out again...2nd time in a week. This time, I ordered "Happy Family", which is one of their more expensive dishes...primarily because it comes with a full variety of meats and seafood. Since their Singapore Noodles weren't as spicy as it could be, I asked for "Extra Spicy" on this latest order of "Happy Family" dish. Well, here's the deal. The dish was quite plentiful and delicious...however it came a bit short on the full, spicy flavor (again). Think they might have added some brown sauce (as you can see, the dish LOOKED spicy, but it just wasn't...at all!). If this was their idea of "Extra Spicy", I could only imagine how bland this dish would have been! Also, they used imitation crab...not the real thing. So yeah, a few things could be improved. Still, it tasted good enough...and I had no problem eating all of it. I'll also mention this. On my first Take-Out order, I remember having to wait an extra few minutes even AFTER spending a good 15 minutes at Harris Teeter to pick up my order. Well, this time, despite being quoted 10-15 minutes for the Take-Out, it wasn't ready when my hubby drove up. In short, they are not as quick as some Chinese Take-Out places. Lastly, I noticed again that their service is a tad off. On my first time there, I remember thinking that their service bordered on rude. This time, when I called in, I was put on hold at least 3 times...and again, no cheerful service, no apology for the wait...just dead pan service. In any case, this IS a solid Take-Out, but I can't say it's the best one I've been to. Think the thing I like the most about this place is its location. For that alone, I probably will revisit. read more

What was this I ate? It wasn't Chinese. For decades I ordered here regularly but last few years its gotten worse. This is absolutely the worst I have ever gotten. Ordered Cantonese chicken and it had no flavor at all even the two pieces of BoK Choy and carrots had no flavor then there was the yellow sauce so overly salty you could not eat it. Next was the Ragoons, OMG..no flavor, how can that even happen?? Our appetite has not been satisfied other than the wonton soup and even that was no way the homemade bone broth they used to make that was so good. $50 including tip Not happening again, would rather give the money to the Salvation Army guy ringing the bell outside. read more

For the past year Golden China used to be delicious, fast and consistent. But since the pandemic things have changed. Ive supported their business from the beginning of it all and even though the food was disappointing, I had hopes it would improve after they adjusted to whatever changes they were dealing with during all this. Maybe they were understaffed? Maybe the meat shortages were impacting their quality control ? But it's been 4 months now and things are just getting worse. Their once perfectly crisp and flavorful meals such as black pepper chicken are now soggy, bland and the meat quality has decreased. They're no longer putting any meat in the egg rolls. It's not even seasoned either - it's just straight up fried cabbage rolls. I hate to post this review but I gotta finally say I'm done spending my money only to be disappointed. I hope to find a better quality Chinese spot out there. read more

Golden China. They tell legends of it over the river, whence I came. Golden China. Enchanted land of Wong Wong Ching Chow. Moonlit meadows and shimmering rivers of wonton soup. When old man Leslie from down the street- a great adventurer I've heard- first rambled to me about the land of golden China over a game of chutes and ladders in the back of my little sister's nursery (I'm not sure why he was there, perhaps an eager patron of nursery and daycare services beyond the river.) I was enchanted by the imagined land he painted with his gravelly voice. The next week, I informed my mother- a homely yet sweet woman with an immaculate sense of smell- that I would be leaving for a voyage of epic proportions over the river and to the Leslie-fabled land of Golden China, she was shocked. How could such a dashing and charming, yet innocent boy like me attempt such a feat? I told her: "don't fear, wench. You will receive a homing pigeon bearing word of my safe arrival. Now, go back to the house and make my father a sandwich. " And then off I went. I trekked, with my pack mule, a legendary journey o'er baron wastes, rolling hills, and passed a significant number of waffle houses- many of which I dined at, but who's cuisine could not match even the imagined taste of the delicious Golden China food, which had made its home in my mind. At last, weary, fatigued, hungry, cold, and Asian, I reached the promise land. Which appeared in my tired travelers eyes as a glorious dining establishment of about 250 square feet. I burst into the restaurant, alone, as my pack mule had died of dehydration 5 days before, and dragged myself to the gleaming granite counter top of Golden China. The lady at the counter possessed an unearthly beauty, she was in fact a New York City ten out of ten. Her eyes gleamed with the shimmer of one trillion galaxies, her skin was fair and soft- I digress. I ordered the family special meal for three, then she said something which I could not understand, but the meaning of it penetrated through my ignorant mind even so: "$29.99." I paid and thanked the fair maiden, her eyes resting undeciphering as I had tried to say thank you in Chinese. I don't know what i actually said, but it likely wasn't Chinese. I didn't bother to get her phone number because I had already embarrassed myself and i get rather nervous when I am embarrassed. With beautiful buzzing florescence illuminating my meal, which smelled slightly like mulch, I enjoyed. Turned out, old man Leslie wasn't lying after all. Often times if you can even understand what the old fuck is trying to say it's riddled with inaccuracies and exaggerations. The food was delicious though it tasted much the same as other Chinese food, never the less I scarfed it down hungry as hefty suburbanite. On my way out, I attempted to thank the fair counteress but I let out a little fart caused by the characteristic stubbornness of Chinese food traveling through one's digestive track. Do not eat at this restaurant. Young man and his girlfriend inadvertently passed by the covid "stop" sign (12ft away versus 6ft) . The lady comes out and yells at the boy: hey, you don't see that sign! Like he was her child. Then she bought out his food and basically threw it on the counter. She looked at me as I stared at her. I cannot recommend this restaurant. First, they just won't answer their phone. If you do get an answer and place a takeout order, they are incredibly rude and seem not to want customers to even enter their restaurant. They have tables set up as blockades and signs warning people not to breach their Covid barriers. I wanted Chinese food for dinner and Golden China is very convenient for my family. We placed a large order online, which was super easy and a great tool, and within 20 minutes all of our food was done! The lady who rung me up was courteous and because we spent a lump sum (41$) we were given a free large bottle of soda of our choice. They are disrespectful unkind and when you call to order they'll say as usual 15 minutes but make you wait 45 minutes or longer. We won't be going back. I ordered food online at 6:00 pm, at 7:00 I started calling to find out how much longer. 15 calls later, still no answer. We figure they must be closed. We cook dinner and eat. My experience with this restaurant was absolutely horrible. It was my first time calling in for a delivery service. The girl that answered the phone had to put me on hold six times just to complete my order. Once the manager got on the phone she was absolutely horrible and rude. Food was waiting for carry out in container to go with fork and spoon as well as sauce without asking for any of these things. Social distancing was spot on with tables separating the cooking area from the pick up area. 5 minute wait was all it took from order to pickup. Food was hot and employee was welcoming. We order delivery from here all the time. Food always tastes freshly made, arrives steamy hot, and on time. Our out of town family all agree that the food here is some of the best Chinese available. We have ordered from this place at least 30 times. The delivery time has always been earlier than quoted and the food is always as ordered. It's fresh food! We love it! Absolutely the worst attempt at Chinese food I have ever had. Really how hard is it to make sesame chicken ? We weren't expecting gourmet but this was so bad ! The chicken tasted like vinegar and had pieces of apple and other undetermined things mixed in and smelled like it was rancid and was beyond awful! No sesame whatsoever. My coworkers and I have a Chinese place right next door to our office but we would rather pitch in and reach the minimum $15 delivery total and wait for our food to arrive then go there because Golden China is GOOD. I just asked if any of them had any complaints about their lunch today and both answered with "No, they were awesome". No, no, no. When I walked in, there was an odd smell, I should of turned around and walked back out the door, but I didn't. I placed my "To Go" order, Spring Rolls, Wonton Soup & Singapore Noodles... My order was prepared really fast, and bag was warm to the touch, I was so excited to get back home and try my purchase. We drive an extra distance for Chinese from this restaurant. Our pick up orders are usually ready when we get there or shortly after. There have been a few issues with sweet and sour chicken, twice we didn't get the sweet and sour sauce but now I check before I leave. Their egg rolls are flipping fantastic.
